Skid is going to attempt to write a guide for fly fishing. This will be fun,

Still waiting for (real) help with the beginner guides on the Pastebin. I put a little saltwater one in there, but I want to do a river one possibly and trout.

Oh, and here's a fishin' related story a friend told me yesterday.

>guy almost died like a year ago, now he livin life to the max
>scuba diving last Wednesday, sees a huge sea turtle and the turtle lets him hang on for a little cruise around the reef
>300lb giant grouper notices, starts eyeing dude and is lurking around
>guy has his lobster snare with him kinda secondary to diving anyway, sees one and snares it
>all of a sudden feels something fuckhueg slam into him
>giant grouper grabs lobster on the end of snare, dude doesn't want to give up lobster, goes on a little journey with the grouber
>eventually had to concede and let the 300lb fish take the lobster

I can post pics of 18" largemouth all day but it wouldn't change anything.

I would like to land some 5lb+ peacocks though. I just don't go to enough good peacock spots since 90% of the time I go fishing, there aren't any of them at all in those lakes and ponds.

I should catch some younger ones with a net and transfer them into the little lake that I go to after work all the time.

why is it that minorities always use 20 lb mono no matter what they're fishing for?

they could be at some 1 acre retention pond where the biggest fish is an 8" bass and they'll still have the same old setup which invariably involves 20 lb mono

Yup, both in the 3000 size. Going to give the second one to my brother with a 9ft penn prevail surfcaster med-light rod. He likes to fish but will only go with other people because he doesn't know knots or tackle at all. He lives an hour from me on the coast so a versatile combo for perch or striper will be dope for him, we'll be able to meet at a beach halfway between and fish. His only pole right now is a 5ft shakespeare sturdystick meant for boat fishing.

IDK tho your first surf reel you're bound to dunk or drop in the sand. Maybe I should just keep it and get him a cheap sedona or something
>>
>>902380
she also has a dead tooth. probably a psychosomatic manifestation of her being dead inside. i suspect from the years of incestuous sexual abuse, and after having killed her father in a fit of rage one night, enduring a lengthy trial and being let out on probation due to leniency in light of the years of prior abuse, living a life of lies where she tells everyone her son's father walked-out on them but her "son" is also actually her little brother. they do ok and stay strong, but every night when she looks into his eyes to kiss him goodnight she sees her father's eyes looking back at her. he doesn't know, he can never know. her life might be ravaged but his won't be, not if she has anything to say about that.

but anyway the tooth, yuck

If anon is taking out a 15 year loan for a fucking boat, I don't think he will be able to pay it off in a year. It's a terrible idea but its not my money.
>>
>>902402
For perch and rockfish on the westcoast you don't need a 13ft pole and 6000+ size reel. The majority of fish I catch are within 3 rod lengths of where I stand whether from the surf or from the jetty. Most people use an 8-9.5ft pole and 2500 size reel. If I were going to target striper specifically I'd up it to a 4 or 5000 size reel and 10-13ft rod which I do have
>>
>>902414
10, 12, 15, and 20 years are standard terms for a boat loan. There's nothing hard about paying it off early. The boat he posted is only $19K on their website. Nothing hard about paying that principle off in a year or two if you're frugal with your money. My boat was $34K and I got a 12 year loan. I paid it off in a little under 4 years. When you finance something, it's easier to get the longest term possible so that you can manage the debt. It doesn't mean you have to keep paying for it for 12 or 15 years. We got a 30 year mortgage for lower payments in case we come across financial difficulties but it's been 7 years and we have about 5 more left until it's paid for. We could have gotten a 15 year loan but why?
>>
>>902359
don't fucking do it.
>>
>>902423
But loans r bad anon don't you know?
>>
>>902423
You generally get lower interest rates on shorter term loans. But yes I agree with everything else you said.
>>
>>902369
I just bought that same yak. I'm working on mounting a trolling motor using pvc in the rod holders.
>>
>>902430
Says a bunch of NEETs on /biz/ that think they're going to become billionaires off Bitcoin and affiliate marketing.

Debt isn't bad if you manage it properly. Sad part is people don't manage debt. They pay the minimum on their credit cards instead of paying the balance in full each month to incur no interest. When they get extra money like income taxes, they blow it instead of paying off their mortgage quicker.

I personally don't recommend financing depreciating things like boats, cars, etc. A $5K car is just fine to daily drive with. Same with a $5K boat. But if it's something you're really serious about like you're into racing legitimately on race tracks and want to finance a race car, or you actually go fishing more than once a month and want a good boat rather than a small jon boat, then I see nothing wrong with managing debt. As long as you aren't stupid and can afford it.

"Consider myself a finesse guy"

>using spinner baits and cranks

I bet the cranks are not even flat sided ones.

Get a drop shot, finesse craw jigs, and suspending jerk baits like the Rapala shadow rap or x rap or something similar. Sometimes ones without rattles are better.

I seriously need to talk some shit about this. Or at least tell him do send a newer guy as help with me (but I would rather just work alone and have a lighter day). It won't change though as long as Pepsi only cares about the numbers and employees and turnover rates don't mean shit. Old boss used to route everybody instead of cutting a bunch on light days and we would be back by noon.

pretty much. for dinks I think it would work fine. I would like to see the insides of the reel. the outside looks the business but the guts of the reel are what make it what it is.
watched a guy with one of those shitshamo's hook a bigger size striper and the reels gears completely grinded to nothing. he had to handline it in. So for dinks itll work but would hate to lose a fish of a lifetime for being skimping on the important stuff. you can save money on the rod instead.

Usually this wrecks even better reels quite fast. And I don't like the thought of ruining a 100$ reel when I can do with a $40.

This is kinda true. That's why I'm on 4chan. When you move across the country in your mid 20s, aren't a student, aren't a bar rat, and work by yourself daily, it can be difficult to make friends. Plus I'm too old to be like "We should be friends! Wanna hang out?" which is also why I don't have a wife or girlfriend.

I'm a little bummed though. The other weekend I got some 2" or 3" white Gulp mullets and they are the perfect size to use on that 1/8oz white chatterbait but then I put it on and it kills the action of the chattermeme at lower speeds.

The 3" (I think) chartruese ones are GOAT when I use them as a trailer with that black and chartruese Booyah Pond Magic spinnerbait.

The people who have the "only basement dwellers browse 4chan" are the under 21 too edgy for Reddit kids that haven't really experienced 4chan outside of boards like /b/ or /pol/.

There's tons of normal grown people on here. Just stay away from the shitty boards.

I'm 28. I'm divorced with a kid. I've been on my own since I was 19. And I've been browsing 4chan since 2009. Mostly /diy/ and /o/ but I'll come to /out/, /k/, and sometimes /his/ and /sci/.

If you think 4chan is only for loser young adults that still live with their parents and have never had a life, then you're really only reflecting on yourself. It's nothing more than an alt Reddit. It's not some secret internet forum like people on /b/ or /r9k/ think it is. Lots of normal people here. Especially on the worksafe boards.

This website wasn't meant for "normal grown people." You're cancer. Come sit on daddy's knee and I'll tell you a story.

Once upon a time there was a website which attracted genuine subversives: anarchists, paedophiles, black hat hackers, activists, and all manner of sociopaths and shit-disturbers. These people turned into Anonymous and made some very serious men in dark suits and Gargoyle shades very angry. These very serious men made it known to m00t that he could either nerf his subversive website into the text equivalent of Habbo Hotel or he could get all his servers seized by the NSA and spend some quality time in Gitmo. And because m00tiekins had the spine of a jellyfish, he kicked out the subversives and opened the door to you brainless little teenyboppers to keep the ad revenue rolling in.

So we're not trespassing on your website, you sunken-headed twerp, YOU are squatting on OURS.

>>
>>903391
And that's kinda what I was thinking. If Yurofan just wants to order straght from Tackle Warehouse to anon's house, it should be simple. And whoever shops for him could probably just order whatever to their own address and then go to the post office. For smaller packages, international shipping is actually pretty fast and cheap as long as you aren't trying to ship to a third world warzone. Or just order straight from a Yuro tackle website.

I'm thinking by the end of the weekend I'm going to email everybody back and confirm that they still want to participate and then I can draw names and we can all start shopping.

Can you guys find these Gambler soft plastics at your local tackle shops? The company is based around here and idk if they are widely distributed throughout the US or just around here.

>>903567
I mean just look for some Eagle Claws with cheap shipping if you go on Amazon or Ebay. Or if you want them now, you should be able to check store availability on any of the websites so you don't have to drive all over searching. Otherwise if you have local small tackle shops, sometimes those dudes are great with terminal tackle and they could have small trebles for people trying to fix lures.

Dick's had that free shipping last weekend too. That would be the perfect opportunity to grab them.

And I think Walmart has "ship to store" as well so you could have them in a few days without paying a bunch for shipping.

Yeah I figured. I was just thinking about the Secret Santa and those Gambler shads are real nice and the company is based a couple blocks from my work so I thought that might be good to send if I end up with a bass fag.

Hybrid? Because I think the white bass have the broken lines and then yellows are more of an off-white color as opposed to the silver.

>tfw startin to get excited for the Secret Santa now
No matter who I get, they are getting a Mepps. I don't give a fuck if they only fish saltwater with a fly rod. They are getting a Mepps.
>>
If anyone does any freshwater salmon fishing then pair me up with them because I have shit loads of local made salmon tackle
>>
>>903587
I don't even know who this is.

And I don't think anybody has mentioned salmon. If there is anybody who already emailed me, goes for salmon, but didn't mention it, send me another email.

What the hell are salmon-specific lures anyway? Only thing I can think of is spoons and shit.

Not online.

Now I'm kinda looking around. I was down with the Dick's free shipping and then found that coupon code for $20 off. $115 shipped or whatever on that Mach 1 combo seems like a straight price. Idk what line I want to run, I have some 40lb SuperSlick PowerPro that could go on but maybe I will go lighter like 20lb. It is a MH and 6'10" so a little heavier and longer than my M 6'6" memes.

I really should've just ordered that Johnny Morris over the weekend when it was on sale and paid for like half of it. Maybe that will be my goal when I quit smoking and have money to spend on stuff.

>>

>>
>>903690
Idk I might go out there again when they roll around if I can find a quiet spot. I just can't stand all the fucking people everywhere. There are lots of spots on the Intercoastal I could probably do if the snook come up that way. But everything on the beach side is annoying and crowded unless I went surf fishing and I'm not trying to go in the water.
>>
>>903665
>>903678
Those look nice enough in person. I feel like the Mach II reel is barely nicer, but I think that's mostly the handles that make it feel that way to me.

Honestly I really like the copolymer line I have on mine. It's very nice for running cranks and its still sensitive enough you could run a soft plastic with it if you wanted to. But I know anything other than braid triggers you so.

Surf fishing is probably one of the most difficult forms of fishing
>have to know how to read weather and the tides
>have to know how to read the ocean in order to find sand bars, troughs and holes
>must be a skilled long distance caster

No just a regular striper. We don't have any whites, yellows, or hybrids over here except maybe a couple of lakes somewhere.
>>
>>903703
I just think I'm gonna be spoiled after that Carbonlite and Revo SX because that setup weighs absolutely nothing. That's why I really wanted to grab that Bass Pro Titanium8 one. Maybe in the future. For now I just want to try something other than an Abu and the Mach 1 can't be too shitty for $140.

Does yours have the centrifugal brakes or just magnetic? I thought I read the Mach 1 has both so that will be interesting to play with.
>>
>>903590
People use an inline spinner or vertical jig in deep water, and drift colored beads in shallow sections of the river. Those are the main non-fly tactics I see.

Salmon fishing on the AR is sort of like salt fishing in Florida. You have a chance at a big fish but you have to stand in a line with 20 other fisherman and cast into the river without crossing anybody's line. Unless you have a boat.
>>
>last warm day of fishin for the year

this is why i dont go outside

also what can i do if i broke the squarebill on my crankbait? is it junk?
>>
>>903703
>>903710
I think the Mach II is magnetic alone while the Mach I is magnetic and centrifugal. I have no idea how they pick which one to use on what reels and what is better. My Silver Max and SX both have magnetic, but I know your S has the centrifugal and the STX (along with the rest of their $200+ reels) have both. But then the $60 Silver Max has magnetic so it isn't like they only do magnetic brakes on their expensive ones.

I think that Mach II does have the smaller frame though which I like with the SX but I really don't mind palming the slightly larger Silver Max. I do see some cheaper and Asian memecasters tho that have huge bodies and look really awkard to palm the same way as smaller ones unless you have Michael Jordan's hands.

Come fish in Florida. If you start going out in the afternoon in the summer, it won't take long for the lightning to get you. Or the gators.

I have legit been scared a couple times I decided to stay out a few minutes too long. Plus the storms blow up out of nowhere in the afternoon. There is one lake a bit out west in a subdivision where it's like a 10-15min walk with gear and absolutely no real trees around. In the summer around 4pm, little clouds start growing a couple miles west and a little fluffy white cloud can become a really bad storm within half an hour and blow over you. I have scattered to the nearest tall bushes a couple times while I was at that lake because I wanted to get one more cast in and lightning starts striking the power lines a couple hundred yards away.

Just tie

pkay, so heres what youre gonna do

get a 9 foot 2x tippet, a baggie of 10mm beads, some size 6 egg hooks, and some strike indicators
set your drag so that it pulls where youre comfortable, and since you wont have a fighting butt you have one option: opu your hand on the butt of the rod and pretend you do like pic related, dont touch the spool. dont grab up on the blank either, youll be tempted, but dont do it, look up saltwater fly rods breaking, and thats how most of the time.
youre going to thread a bead on your tipper, then tie on your egg hook, this is where the toothpick comes in
put the bead 1.5-2 inches over the hook, then cram a toothpick in the hole, and break it off
take your strike indicator and set it appropriately, and dead drift it
the second that strike indicator does anything other than drift normally, set the hook, and for god sakes make sure youre holding that rod tight. if its a stick, bring it in, and unfoul it
if it starts to swim away, feather the line through your fingers till youre fighting from the reel and have a ball/heart attack and take your bloody time so you dont break your rod. for landing, what youre going to have to do is hold your fly rod out in one hand straight out and far from your body, and your rod pointing almost straight up. you have to grab your line, and wuickly grab the fish by the tail. grab hard cause it will try to run, and if he slips out let the line go (it should be hooked under the index finger of your rod hand) then keep fighting him, if you get one hooked youre already ahead of the game, dont throw it away by getting over eager to land it, you have all the time in the world

tl:dr
pin the bead 2 inches over a #6 hook on a 9 foot 2x tippet, dont hesitate to set the hook ever, and dont horse the fish or break your rod
>>
>>903939
