FWIW Goldwings seem to go for pretty cheap for how much bike they are; granted most of those are pre-00's bikes with >30k miles on them, but if I was going for one I don't think that would deter me so much since Goldwing owners seem like they would keep up with service. This is a completely baseless inference though.

Check out reviews online. FortNine and Revzillas give a pretty comprehensive picture IMO. It's basically a re-styled Bolt, so if you want something easy to ride with more neutral ergonomics it's not the worst thing. Really only a "scrambler" in style more than anything though, which if that's what you're looking for then go for it.

At the very least, it's something for those who like V-twins but don't want a cruiser.
>>
>>17868799
The XSR900 is a better bet if you want something retro with actual performance. It just has a shitty plastic 'clam shell' fuel tank.

I was hoping that my next bike would be a cruiser, but after seeing the SCR950 I really kind of want it just for the style. I've read the reviews and they all say its not really for aggressively riding backroads and stuff.
Like I said, mostly the style that I like.

I mean it's main purpose is to have the scrambler styling. I can't deny I like the style as well, I just personally don't want my next bike to be another V-twin. If you like it, the Bolt seems like a pretty solid bike so I can't see anything to be lost by getting an SCR. Always worth it to test ride if you can though.

I know what you want and a full on cruiser is not the way to go in the long run. A CB1100 or a Ducati Scrambler or a Motoguzzi V7 is an INFINITELY better bike that you would enjoy alot longer.

>>17868899

>>
>>17868891
Probably, but then my Shadow probably is too. It's been a while since I watched the reviews on the SCR, and admittedly haven't really looked into the Bolt at all. Chances are the SCR just is a bit more fun in the handling department.

I'm not some die-hard cruiser faggot but I'm starting to be of the impression that any cruiser under a liter isn't worth having as more than a starter bike, and I thoroughly enjoy my shadow.
>>
>>17868870
You have no idea Keenaner the bus ride up to PHX to buy it was terrible. There were 3 fat nog women who all found out they love rap and started freestyling together the entire ride. They were all talking about how their baby daddys got arrested in Oakland for carrying hi-cap 9's and getting caught doing it and shit like that. They kept talking about how they steal money from people and shit.

I was literally next to one of them and had the misfortune of forgetting my earbuds. me there with several thousand dollars cash in my backpack and my cc gun.

At one point they decided I was rich because I didn't care that I spent 2.25 on a soda in the station. My asshole has never puckered so tight.

>Honda Rebel
don't get a cruiser, you will regret it.
BMW makes some very nice cruiser-ish retro's full of passion, character and all that stuff.
Honda makes the CB1100 which is just amazing if performance isn't a concern.
The moto guzzi V7 and grisso are amazing if reliability isn't a concern.
Trust me, I'm coming from a place of experience, don't get a cruiser.
>>
>>17868926
If you think you want a cruiser, either go cheap with the used rebel idea of start with a more standard-style bike. In that regard, the SCR wouldn't be bad, because then you can decide if you ride more relaxed and want to sit that way, or if you actually enjoy sportier, more spirited riding and maneuvering and actually find yourself wanting something with more performance. Cruisers are nice, but most are very niche in their applications, plus most of /dbt/ will call you a faggot cuck.

Nothing wrong wiht test riding a bike. Test ride as many as you can. They might try discourage you, but nothing stops you from walking away. It's very unlikely they have the best deal on that particular bike in your town.

I'm thinking of getting an Indian Bolt Bobber coming from a sport naked bike, so I understand where you're coming from I think. However at this point I don't think I'd be happy on a smaller metric cruiser. They just lack torque, comfort, and weight, which are things I'm after. The Bobber looks awesome too I think.

Don't pay too much attention to the guys on here telling you to avoid cruisers like the plague. They are likely short distance commuters or weekend warriors who think lightweight and fast cornering are the only reasons to ride a motorcycle.

I never let it get at me. It's my first bike, and my current only one, but that by no means condemns me to being my only bike forever, or that I'm locked into that category. /o/ (particularly /dbt/) and /k/ are similar in that so many people seem to get stuck in this mindset of "because you have x, you must be someone who hates y" when in reality, to give a /k/-related example, many people who own and like AK's also own and like AR's as well. Same goes for motorcycles.

The scout is indeed a gorgeous bike; it's my pinnacle cruiser desu, and the only one cruiser I see myself having in the long-term. Haven't made up my mind on the bobber yet, the murdered-out look is kind of worn out on me for cruisers, though Indian has done it pretty well considering what most people do in the "custom" side of things.

I'm 5'8", 130lb and was worried that I'd look about like that on most any bike i was thinking of; they all seemed so big in person. But now I feel comfy on my SV650S. It was a bit like getting to know a German Shepard when you're twelve or so - it's bigger and heavier than you and you feel like she might kill you if you make any sudden moves. But after a couple of months she's sleeping with you on the couch and insistently licking your face even though you're punching her to make it stop.

New like the 2017 one? Or new like a nice condition fuel-injected pre-hiatus one?

I've heard people rave about both of the above, though the new one is more of a "fix some of the things that made people hate the Gladius" rather than "the Gladius never happened, let's go back and start where we left off with the SV". From the reviews I've read and watched, I prefer the older one still (I own one) but iirc the new one has better mileage, a smoother throttle and taller gears - basically a comfier ride (all these things are fairly slight distinctions - they're still very similar).

talked to mechanic at the bike shop i get my stuff fixed at and he said its normal since i like to give a lot of throtle on my bike, meaning riding down freeway at very high rpm/speed

Listen, 500cc is perfect for a beginner bike. stop being insecure and get the 300cc. 250 is always enough for everyone except hooligans and criminals who can't ride. What do you need more than 125cc for anyways? More than 50cc is going to get you killed, and you'll never learn to corner with that much power on tap. There's a reason europe has the best racers and it's our 20cc motorcycles.

Blue smoke off idle is rings, if it was blue smoke on deceleration it would be valves seals.

How many miles on it? With proper air filter maintenance you should be able to get 25-30k miles out of a set of rings.

Slapping new set of rings in it may cure your problem but you won't know the condition of the bore/piston till you have them in hand.

I've been thinking about podium girls a lot recently. It's like when you say a word too often and it looses meaning, the concept has started to baffle me.

>who thought of it.
who was sitting about going,
"you know what we need, some fit birds to stand about and do nothing"
"why?"
"m8 are you fucking bent"
"I'll go grab garry's hot sister"

>who would agree to it.
"I've got a job for you stacy"
"nice, am I going to be a productive member of society and help my fellow man?"
"no, you're going to stand about in a skin tight dress so we can all stare at your tits"
"what colour heels should I wear?"

>why is it so natural
the most baffling thing of all is why it just makes instinctive sense. I cant imagine a world where podium girls don't exist and I don't know why.

So I'm gonna be riding a dirt bike for the first time on Saturday. Have an all day Adult Dirt Bike course (amusingly enough at a schooled called DBT). What sort of gear should I look at? This is really meant as more of a 'do I want to get into this stuff', so I'd rather not go full retard, but don't dropping the coin for important stuff. The class docs just say long pants/shirt or jacket/boots, etc. I have Kevlar/Aramid lined jeans and jacket, with CE L2 protectors on the joints/back, some ok boots (ATAC 8") and good gloves. Buy the 500, and you'll have all the power a cruiser will ever need. When you're looking to upgrade, you can expand the stable instead of trading in.

>>

I tried mine for the first time yesterday, that shit is crazy
>>
>>17871561

You're either lying or your speedo is fucked. Unless you dropped in a bigger front sprocket and/or smaller rear sprocket, it's mechanically impossible for your bike to reach 125mph. All of the variations of Ninja 250s in gearing commander top out at around 90mph. Adding 3 teeth to the front and taking 3 from the back has top speed at 116mph.
>>
>>17871756

The rain isn't bad. It's heavy enough to wash the oil off the road but not heavy enough to cause a ton of pooling/destroy visibility. There's a couple bad days, but overall it's a mild annoyance.

If he changed his sprocket wouldn't it still read the original gearing top speed when he hit 125? I know stunter pizza pans make your bike say 130 when you're going 80
>>
>>17872475
300 maybe, but the 500 won't have any issues with highway speeds. Stop pretending like you need a lidder pidder to go 70.
>>
>>17872496

I'm not sure how that bike reads speed, but yes, that is a possibility. My Grom reads speed off the front sprocket. Adding a tooth to the front (which I did) makes my speed reading about 10% slower than I'm actually going. The Ducati I owns goes off of a sensor measuring the rotation of the rear caliper, so changes to sprockets wouldn't change the readings on that speedo.
>>
>>17872495
If you were stalling why would you dump the clutch?
>>
>>17872513
if he knew what he was doing why would he be stalling?
>>
>>17872507
>highway speeds are fine
>stop pretending you need to go 70
Well which is it? 70 MPH is highway speed where I live, or in some places below highway speed.
>>
>>17872513
Long first gear, I gave it extra revs at a standstill so it wouldn't stall and wound up launching
>>
>>17872495

I took the MSF course here on my Grom (their bikes are 250 cruisers) and it was borderline cheating. Anyone who fails the course on a grom has no business being on 2 wheels.

Like my FZ-07. If I'm on an even slight decline I just start in second gear. Honestly I wish all gears on the bike were a bit higher, I feel like it's geared like a dirt bike. Even cruising at highway speed has me hovering around 5-6K RPM which is halfway to redline.
>>
>>17872557

It makes sense on the grom because it has zero power. With most bikes, if you're gentle enough on the clutch, you can get rolling without even applying any throttle. I do have an extra tooth on the front, but my grom is bored out to 186cc and it still can't do that at all. It's impossible, will stall no matter how gingerly I release it. It needs that really short first gear so it can have as much of a mechanical advantage as possible.

I've ridden an FZ07 and yeah, those have strange gearing. My buddy bought one before he had his endorsement so I test rode it for him. It was screaming in 1st at like 15-20mph, really strange.

>>
>>17872631
Nothings wrong, I started on a cruiser. You might find yourself wanting a different style bike because they're more for leisurely rides, or that you went with a 250 for your first bike and found it slow. Just start with a 500/650/750 for your first bike if you go cruiser and you'll be fine, go for less than ~550lbs weight until you learn how to not drop it.

They're good bikes but get shit on and can't do all the things other styles can, get one if you *really* like cruisers, but leave yourself room to change bikes if you don't end up liking it.
>>
>>17872631
Pigfat, terrible hp/l, less comfy imo than straight up standards/supernakeds, awkward seating position, terrible front brakes, bad suspension geometry, Harleys are expensive af

Literally no redeeming features

>I've ridden an FZ07 and yeah, those have strange gearing. My buddy bought one before he had his endorsement so I test rode it for him. It was screaming in 1st at like 15-20mph, really strange.
Yup that's exactly how it is. The user manual even recommends being in 5th gear at only 35 MPH, which is crazy. The recommended shift point for top gear is I think 42-45 MPH, meaning when cruising on the highway at 75-80 it's totally wound out even in top gear.

Only reason I can think of this is to give it a more powerful sensation while putting around town. Sucks for any kind of travel though.

Considering getting a Scout which would definitely not have this same annoyance.
