Stupid question, but why do add lights on the bottom of the forks? Is it to give you light when leaning at night? Better lighting off road or just in general?
I see a lot of ADV style bikes with em

It's an easy mounting point on the front fender, and increases your visible size.
The Clearwater Darla's still manage to throw quite a bit of light though which is impressive given their small size, almost as good as my old big ass Krista's on my previous bike

What's the difference between an inline four and a v-twin of the same displacement? Generally speaking.
>>17874819
I4 will put out more power and consume a bit more fuel.
Typically v twins are tuned for low end grunt
>>17874827
Also the smaller cylinders on an i4 can rev higher

How can I stop my forks from leaking for long enough to trick someone into buying my bike?
>>17874884
get a bit of plastic, like from a coke bottle and use that to remove the dirt inside the fork seal which is causing the leak.
its actually a legit fix for leaking seals, 9 times out of 10 they aren't actually damaged.
>>17874901
cut the bit of plastic to look like this btw, hook on the end will help grab the dirt

I've got a tip for everybody to make their riding experience way better
ride a gear lower than you normally do.
How was ur rip today/dbt/?
>>17876008
Non liter rider spotted.
I have the opposite experience, I feel like the bike is more stable and I'm more smoother if I take corners a gear higher than I normally would.
>>17876019
I ride a 1200 actually.
>>17876019
and i bet you use your brakes in corners like a retard
in a lower gear you have far more control over your cornering speed, you can use the engine to brake and then shoot out of the corner at higher speeds.
>>17876020
Careful you don't hit your BMW's car-tier 6k redline.
>>17876022
No, I use my brakes before the corner as I should.
In a lower gear you have more power available due to the higher RPMs, leading to higher sensitivity on the throttle, more severe load changes and thus less stability. Your bike is either gutless or you're godly at throttle control.
>>17876026
you shouldnt even brake before the corner though, you should be riding in a gear where if you ease off the throttle, the bike slows down.
Every time you brake, that's fuel being burnt that you're not using.
>>17876041
>being this poor

Turning driving into a routine/chore was the worst thing to ever happen to road safety.
>>17875310
Looks like someone wet the bed, haha
>>17876597
Not him, but I'm guessing lodsa torque. Sportbikes only get to 180 hp because you have to rev them to the moon to make them move.
>>17876612
They do full leathers with the airbag system, question is whether its worth the extra cash.
>>17876634
Not a lot of ways to get to 180hp with an engine with 1l or less.
HP is a function of torque and RPM. The only ways to get so much torque are to add more stroke so the engine can not rev as high or make the whole engine bigger (also limiting revs), so you add revs instead to get lots of power out of a chunk of metal you can lift out of the frame with your bare hands.
>>17876645
Probably not. Just get a chest and back protector plus full leathers, good boots and gloves, and helmet of course.
>>17876630

I was wearing an armoured textile jacket(back, shoulder, elbow/arm), boots, gloves and kevlar jeans, no road rash no scrapes just impact shock to my shoulder fractured the top of my humerus. I am just wondering whether the titanium shoulder plates and additional protection from the airbag would have prevented the damage over a decent expensive standard jacket(like the one I have).
Burn was from my jeans rolling up and my calve pressing against the exhaust.
>>17876659
That wasn't the point at all. They should make the roads for competent, responsible people only. Zombied out commuters should be taking an efficient public transit system instead. I commuted on a motorcycle for a while and still caught myself doing zombie shit like moving over a lane because I "predicted" that nothing would be there based on input from my mirrors and a glance over the shoulder I made five minutes ago.
Being the sole brain in control of a vehicle is a huge fucking responsibility and if you are not in tip top mental and emotional shape at the moment you should not be behind the wheel or on a bike. Period.
We need to privatize light rail ASAP and give it imminent domain. Instead, liberals are expecting us to live in "urban communities" where you walk 20 minutes or cycle 10 mintues to an overpriced whole foods store instead of driving.

>>17876683
Wearing leather you are more likely to slide instead of tumble, thus reducing high impact injuries...
I'm not sure about all that extra technology in suit, I feel like it's just one more link that could fail. I've seen videos of peoples airbag suits going off from very light falls, so I'm suspect of them
Shinko 705's gr8 for poorfag 'motard', I've been tearing up and down some streets at night when they're quiet. Had a 4hr round trip on the highway and held 70mph waaaay more stable than my old K270's. No steering wobble at all.
The only dirt these are good for are hard packed dirt, gravel, and rocky trails. Climbed up rocky/rooty hills pretty easily. Good fucking luck if you hit loose dirt, sand, or mud. The front is just waiting to wash out.

Electric mopeds are more /o/ than those.

really childish guestoin but how much HP can you pull out from turboing a zx14/busa?
flagship sports have barely over 200hp and checking out even "basic" turboed busas have +300hp which just seems like insanity
>>17876904
There was some guy getting over 1000, if you've got money and don't care about how long the motor will last there's really no limit to how much horsepower you can get out of a motor.

Not sure if I should ask here but I'll go ahead.
So my nephews Peugot XPS (Minarelli AM6 50cc) recently broke, the piston was damaged. They bought a new cylinder and piston and installed them. They noticed the kickstart is very stiff. The bike won't start from it, it only starts after about 30m of pushing with second gear on. After that It wont respond to throttle and doesn't stay on. When pushing it I feel like the engine doesn't 'move' properly and struggles hard to start. What might be the problem? Help would be appreciated

it only comes down to boost.
turbo tuning barely has any limits and people have been tuning 1,4 liter golf engines to over 1000hp.
a 1,3 liter that revs 10.000+ could do twice that if it wouldnt blow apart.

What exactly does a mechanic do when you ask for a full servicing on a motorcycle?
>>17877160
Do an oil change if you're lucky.
He may give it a test ride if it's nice
>>17877160
Standard service
>fluids change
>new filters
>set valves
>new spark plugs
>distribution belt if applicable
>check/replacing chain and sprockets
>check brakes
>check tyres
>maybe adjust cables
>>17877179
Do they check the engine?
>>17877185

>>17877131
throwing the water to the sides i guess.

a proper mechanic wont remove the valve cover and check valves at every regular service if he only needs to do it ever 24k kilometres or something.
https://youtu.be/CKrieoDHdK4?t=4m37s
seriously?
>>17877591
The one aksing asked what a mechanic does with a full service. I assume that's the biggest standard service you get. Not just the 10k oil/filter or the 20k oil/filter/spark plugs etc.

>>17877535

valves are always extra, never standard.
Depending on the engine it can take forever to even get to them and if they need to be adjusted it can be rather expensive.

Why is /dbt/ so slow?
I have a question for starting a business. I know, this isn't /biz/. But who goes to /biz/ for /biz/ knowledge, anyway?
I recently made friends with an engineer. We got to talking about design for cars and such, and I happen to do a lot of motorcycle side-cart designs for fun. Purely hobby. However, when he took a look at them, he said they were "pure genius" and I should consider starting a business making them.
To be clear, these are traditional side carts. They are multi-function side carts.
So this got me thinking. How could I make them? How could I start a business? I love drawing them out and I put a lot of thought into each one. How much does it cost? Where can I find out about laws and restrictions on them for road use and safety? I doubt I can afford starting up a business from scratch on my own. So how would I go about finding investors? I hear nothing but negatives about Kickstart and those equivalent saying they are only good if you have money to begin with and can become sponsored by someone with media influence.
Any ideas? My buddy really got my hopes up and I think it would be awesome to make these come to life.
>sorry, no pics to show :*(

first you should try to understand what is a startup and how it works.
Then, the most important part is sorting the legal issues and intellectual property before registering your company (if you know a lawyer he might give you some helpfull tips)
a good playlist for startup is : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aqRBN7qvyxs&list=PL24nOpPUQlbbip7IrGcdAFZvLFRbT6Aac

It probably would work. Just keep in mind you are paying 11k for something you will probably drop or lay down while learning how to ride.
>>17878280
cool thanks.
>>17878283
>cont.
You want something you can take to an empty parking lot and ride the balls off of. Shifting, u-turns, tight maneuvering, emergency braking, skids, hell, even wheelies and endo's. And if you drop it, (you will), oh well, it was a cheap second hand bike that all ready had some paint missing.
>>17878309
I sold even find some gravel to go hoon around on, just so you have some idea of what you are doing when you get run off the road
>>17878211
Make at least one (one) from your own money. Basic design, prototype. Then make a better one (1) and sell it. Only then will any investors even talk to you.
Your endgame should be getting some patents (if your design has some form of novelty) and selling those to a large manufacturer. Then you can retire and visit all the SEM and SAM.
>>17878331
Fuck that just make some solidworks drawings and a cool video and rake in that Kickstarter dosh.

you don't need solidworks drawing, just a nice presentation with cool graphics will do the trick (hire someone on fiverr to do a "fancy" looking presentation sheet)

a friend of mine is a mechanic and he's seen a CB500 with 500.000 kilometers
>>17878375
And how many bullets?
>>17878331
I'd like to make a prototype out of pocket before I talk to anyone about it, but I'm not the wealthiest man alive so it will likely take a bit of time. And I don't know how to make what I want. I don't know how to make the electronics or the hydraulic systems or guide rails. I can understand what it would need to be what I designed, but I lack the knowledge on how to make that.
I would assume I need a mold that I can cover in fiberglass. Then, I would have to get the metal chassis and bolt the fiberglass around there. Then I would have to build the mechanisms that each side-cart has that makes it uniquely designed.
But how do I make the mold? Can I hire someone to do the metal fabrication? Are there hired-hands that can custom build components like that?
I assume I am essentially finding all the people to actually make what I want to make, only I wouldn't be doing it under one roof with my name on a business card.

My Haynes manual says I need a "sealing washer" for the drain plug, but the one I pulled off and the one it shows in the picture is just a plane old washer, no rubber or anything like normal sealing washers, should I use the old one or do I try and get a new one?

22k miles on the original belts? Holy fucking shit batman. Those things need to be changed ASAP if that's the case. Belts should be swapped out every 2 years or 15k miles, they stretch.
If it runs well and the owner can show you receipts from servicing, then I would get it and either swap the belts myself or just get Ducati to do it for 300 bucks.
I'm looking to buy a bike, can't decide between DL1000 alnd R1200GS. Will be used for touring and commuting. Leaning towards the BMW. Is it a big financial trap when it comes to service? As far as I know the only big problem on these bikes is replacing the clutch. I live in Europe, so parts / labour for the beemer might be cheaper than in the US. What do?
I broke my tandem riding cherry today. I don't know how to feel... It was like riding with bags of cement tied to my bike, and it was kinda more terrifying than going into a blond turn to fast. Am I just a huge faggot or is that what random riding is supposed to feel like?
