imagine, some people actually question KTM because their chromolly steel frames are so strong they break triple clamps instead of snapping the actual frame below the fuel tank like a Japanese bike made out of recycled aluminium.

they had a QC problem for a little while, especially the indian built ones.

Still a bit overpriced but damn fine machines
>>
>>17824674
KTM's are such high quality because pretty much everything on them other than the frame and engine is aftermarket.
that has always been their selling point, "ready to race" meaning they already have all the aftermarket performance parts installed where on a japanese bike you can replace literally everything down the the piston in the engine and it will probably be an upgrade.

Guys i m depressed. I finally managed to fix my drz400s. I was nobike about 8months. Now i am broke and i have to sell immediately because i it wont last long with my way of driving. But its autumn and its dirt time, but my friends leveled up when my bike was broke and now i dont have dirt friends. I had to share it somewhere but i am embarrassed to confess to normal people that my bike's condition can cause me depression

Easiest and most common is full exhaust system with a high flow air filter and performance tune. Might be able to get all that stuff second hand for like 1/3 of the price because 954s are at that age where teenagers can buy them for cheap and then write them off and part it out.
>>
>>17824838
Well with these guys i rode with an kx125 2stroke and it was easier for me because it was light and i was good. It died the same period with the drz so its still broke. So i am trying to train with the drz alone so i can level up but i cant do much. And if i want to sell it because i leave my country (cause broke) i cant go wild in the woods. I found a lightweight nobike friend who offered to come with me at the track so she can call someone if something happen to me so ill see how that will go

what is the sekrit to shift gears at low rpm smoothly?

on car i can do it so well that without noise you would think the car works on variator or something

when going fast i can shift like that on my bike but that requires me to have rpms at +8k when shifting up then shifting rly fast for it to be smooth

i cant go +8k rpm all the time especially at city when i go to work, that thing will go like 100kmh at 8k rpm on 2nd gear

There are some a-class roads over there. Big swooping lines of perfect asphalt with no side streets or speed cameras with hardly any traffic.

On the prowl for some good routes myself. Currently working on tying some good ones together. Most of them have the habit of sending you past farmlane twisties covered in pigshit and gravel. Which look great from google maps but aren't all that.

r8 my plan. Might combine some of these sessions into one as money and time are available
>session 1: repairs
- remove rest of thread from old mirror
- buy new indicator and mirror holder (total: 20 €)
- replace rear right indicator
- test if mirror holder fits on the left hand side as well (possible issues with heated grip controller)
- attach mirror holder on right hand side and attach old mirror
- file down rest of thread on master cylinder
- check wear on brake disk
>session 2: brakes
- order steel brake lines (60 €)
- buy 1L of DOT4 (10 €)
- if brake disk is worn, buy a new one + pads (total 150 €)
- change brake disk + pads if necessary
- remove old brake line
- install steel brake line and bleed brakes
>session 3: cosmetics
- buy another mirror holder (one of two options depending on fit as tested in session 1) for symmetry (10 €) and install
- buy new mirrors if I get tired of the old ones (60 €) and install
- remove stripped bolts from pillion grip, either replace them (14 €) or remove grip altogether
- paint over filed-down part of master cylinder and over rust on exhaust with heat-resistant paint

Yeah, licensing laws are pretty strict here, plus you are required by law to have a heavy ass security safe, which you can't just put in a rented apartment, so you need a house too. And good luck transporting guns because you need a secure lockable compartment for them in your car. No wait, you need two to store ammo and guns separately. You also have to have a shooting club membership (gib membership shekels, goy) and can only shoot at ranges (pay range fees, goy).
If you want to purchase ingredients for ammo to make it, you need a special license. If you want to SELL that ammo, you need a special license. No autos at all. Only a limited number of pistols / revolvers etc allowed.

Tried mechanical engineering in university and dropped out, wanted to do something hands-on afterwards and applied to a couple of places for an industrial fitter/mechanic apprenticeship. One of them also had a draftsman apprenticeship position open so I tried each work area in a short internship and liked the office work more (as in the production work was simply too loud and dirty for me and I prefer sleazing around in an office chair, also my intellect would've gone to waste welding pipes and plates together all day).

I don't think you understand what "aftermarket" means. You're thinking of "outsourced." They outsource because they're a smaller company and can't afford all the equipment to make everything in-house. By the way they have been known to outsource engine pieces too.

What's your background? Obviously comfy engineering jobs require a lot of work ahead of time. As in, a good degree and, more importantly, interest in the subject matter. You can demonstrate that by mentioning and talking about internships you did, what your thesis was about, what projects you did on the side. E.g. my uni-mandated internship was in hardware development so that didn't really help with the job in terms of specialized knowledge, but I learned a lot about project management, how to handle delays and unexpected problems, ... Also I built and modified audio equipment on the side. Sounds more complicated than it was; one of the projects was basically sawing some wood and gluing it together into a speaker cabinet. But it shows interest in technology beyond your education / work as well as hands-on technical experience that a bookworm wouldn't have.
Then there's the popular interview question about your biggest weaknesses. Ironically, applying for a position where only like 80% of the description fit you can be better than one that's 100% you because you can use the remaining 20% as an answer to this question. Be aware of your shortcomings, be open and honest about them, and demonstrate willingness and the ability to overcome them. For example, my current job requires me to write a lot of Python code. My experience with Python amounted to one semester of fucking around with the turtle module (look it up), being taught by a guy I knew, 10 years ago as a child. I didn't mention this in my CV, I only mentioned a "basic" level in Python. In the interview, I told them the extent of my Python knowledge, but said I had no problem moving from BASIC to Java to C to C++ to MATLAB, so I expected to be able to learn Python quickly.
>>
>>17825866
>You have been taught that everything you want should just be given to you.

Well that's certainly not my view. I WANT to work and get paid an honest wage. I just don't want to live to work or work what I view to be unreasonable hours. Is that unreasonable?

i don't get people who just ask what mods r gud for the sake of modding. this is why buying a used bike is miserable because people molest the fuck out of the bikes with shitty mods installed by somebody who has no idea what they're doing.

>do you have any complaints about the bike?
(probably not because that is a really good bike)
>if yes, what are your issues?
>search the issue online, preferably on a model-specific forum to see how people have fixed it and what products are available for it.
>buy said products and install them properly or hire someone to install them.

Proper etiquette is nod, not wave. Also don't ever cut into a pack or follow one closely.

Clubs who kill each other now and then are basically branches of organized crime no matter how they spin it, and they spin it hard. They don't care about outsiders and outsiders are wise to keep a respectful distance from them. Unlike RUBs and trustafarians, the big four have no problem fucking people up for amusement though they almost always save that for obnoxious intrusive drunks who challenge them.

All you need is a basic self-defense loadout to function.

Best uses of money in order are quality tools and equipment with a workshop to hold them, trucks for transport, bikes for fun. Tools will get you toys, but toys only get you tools if you barter. (I keep a basic bitch AR for trade bait.)

hello mein negers
the absurd amount of time required to conform my bike to my A2 license is coming to an end and, like a good citizen, I didnt ride the bike. The RS250 is one of those bikes that get really fucked up if you dont ride them, although I only left it sitting for 2 months. I planned time poorly and couldn't prepare it for this period of rest, so I left it with the tank full and all I did was close the gas tap. When I picked it up it fouled the plugs. Now I changed them but it still takes a good 30 kicks to start it. And that is every time you start it, even warmed up. Also, if I dont really ring its neck (like I should) when releasing the clutch, even if I don't stall it, it mutters for a couple of seconds and there's no amount of throttle that can keep it alive before it puttputts itself to a halt and refuses to start before 5 minutes and a LOT of kicks. What could it be? I definitely don't want it to die on its way to the de-tuning because that would mean losing my appointment that is always about 3 months from when you fix it (thanks, Italy)
>>
>>17826276
I can see nods just fine. So can a pack. Don't bother waving to a group. What "everybody" does changes over the years. All that's needed at most is a gesture of acknowledgement and that's optional and really of no practical use.

To them, you don't exist unless you cause a problem. Do with that information what you will.

I was a bit overwhelmed going on to LSU's campus. I had no idea where to park and cars were being towed left and right. When I fiinally found the building I needed to go to, I saw an area for motorcycle parking right outside.

Either that, or park my car a few miles away and ride a bicycle on campus. Either way, it seems 2 wheels is the way to go.

Don't you people graduate at 17? Spend 3 years learning a trade or getting a bachelor's degree, maybe 5 for a master's, then go and earn some fucking money. You're forgiven if you learned a trade, worked, then went into academia although that would leave you in university, not college.

Is there any way to adjust the resistance on the rear brake? I was riding in actual, stiff, clunky motorcycle boots today and fucking locked up the rear worse than I ever have before, skidding into the middle of an intersection. Lots of honking and middle fingers ensued during the back-up of shame, which was made all the worse due to it being on an incline. I just have zero brake feel and only 3 months into riding that's really fucking bad for me. It's not close to a problem in regular shoes / fashion boots like Red Wings

I 100% ride worse with actual boots and I want to know if there's any way to mess with the rear brake to fix that. 750 Nighthawk with a drum on the rear. I don't think I can adjust the pegs? I looked into that for the shifter and was directed towards messing with the splines instead.
>>
>>17827088
I should add that there's plenty of material on the pads and the drum brake wear indicator reads fine, though with only 7k on the bike when I got it I'm unsure if they've been changed. Brake fluid is fresh.
>>
>>17826322

>>

Sounds like too much pressure being applied, most likely from the adjustment on the brake lever or mechanism at the drum.

You will get used to it and the boots will get more compliant.

Don't fall into that trap that you can't ride in good boots because you can't figure it out. You will, it'll take time to become proficient.

I ride in MX boots on both my bikes ( about as clunky as you can get ), I don't have a problem on either of them.

Can't say I really loved this pair of boots when I first got them but now they are broke in I wouldn't ride with anything else. It'll be a sad day when I have to replace them.

He says he doesn't have problems with shoes with better " feel ". It's not a brake problem, it's a rider problem.

3 months under his belt

Locking the rear brake ( there is almost no reason to use the rear at ALL under normal riding conditions minus slow maneuvering )

Time will fix his issue.

>>17827180

If I would do anything I'd increase the resistance. There's almost none so I don't feel the brake at all until I've bottomed it out. And that bottoming out is the lightest amount of pressure, made worse by the weight of the boots. If I let my foot rest on the brake I'm half-way to fully braking

If that's completely commonplace and I just have to get used to it that's fine. All I wanted to know was whether something was amiss or if I could tune it. Being 6'1 with cramped foot instruments and unwieldy boots is a poor mix right now.
>>
>>17827225
Yep, he needs to learn how to do it right.

> did you miss my INB4

I even gave him a few pointers, no need to use the rear AT ALL unless maneuvering slowly. This is good info for a newbie.

The other other time I touch my rear brake is to settle the bike a little before a corner from the front end dive that comes with heavy brake ( both have long suspension travel ). I only bother with this when I'm up in the hills riding like a complete ass. I'm hoping a new guy with 3 months under his belt isn't doing this.

Just a tad friend, but it's okay! Post your bike
>>
>>17827225

What he needs to do is find a lot somewhere and do MSF style quick stops with boots on and simply figure out how much pressure is required via trial and error.

I don't get much tactile feedback on my rear brake, but I know how much I am applying based on how much I am extending my foot down. He should work on developing that muscle memory instead of mechanically hindering his bike's ability to stop.
>>
>>17827310
if the oil light comes on, it doesn't mean you have no oil, it means you have no pressure.
>>
>>17827310
It's for pressure, not amount.

Pull the filter and check it for debris or if it collapsed from revving the shit out of your bike on cold oil.
>>
>>17827313
I cover the brake with my foot but never resting on it. I wear steel toe 8 inch work boots. Tapping your right foot as if to music or playing drumset builds the associated muscle.

Pegs, levers, and brakes can all be adjusted pretty easily. Its a good thing to know how.

You can adjust the pedal height. I like mine ( 6' 4" ) so that when I'm sitting normally my toe is about 1/8" above the pedal. It may not be possible if the frame or some other part is in the way of downward travel. The linkage to your drum brake should allow you to change the length of the actuating rod which will move the pedal up/down.

Be aware of the travel limits that may be caused by other parts of the bike. If it comes down to position vs function, take the function rather than have a shit rear brake.

Thanks chums. Ill do a filter and oil change and see if it goes away.

Im reall fucking bad at shifting possibly in part if theres a problem with the bike. My old bike never had the issues Im having now like constantly getting stuck in neutral, the wheels locking up when downshifting, getting stuck between gears, the oil light being on before I press ignition, and a noticeable whirring/buzzing sound when I pull on the throttle in higher gears. Any of those sound like an oil/filter problem?
>>
>>17827417
Yeah thats what I read and heard, that youd need a spring upgrade. I was comparing it to the street triple. How much was a suspension upgrade?
>>
>>17827427
Oil light will always be on before the bike starts, the oil pump isn't turning to create any pressure until the engine is running.

The engine and transmission share oil, so could be something there. Could do an oil change and see if that fixes it. Are you sure you used the right kind of oil?

You have some ( one or more ) bent shift forks in your tranny. The things you listed make it so I'm not taking a guess, I'm telling you straight up, no lie you have at least one bent shift fork.

I suspect your filter is clogged from wear of the dogs on your gears from not being engaged all the way and slipping. Changing the filter may fix the oil light but the shifting problems will remain. Prepare for the case split.
