To the anon in the last thread speeding about supersports not having center stands,
You don't need a thing special to remove either end of the suspension. You can literally just prop up the center of the bike on a cinder block.

FUck this thing is weird to ride

It's slow on the tip in, the shaft drive wants to lean the bike over, the chassis feels a little flexible, but dang you can't fluster it. Big expansion joints, railway lines, potholes, all of it just gets mopped up without upsetting the bike or even changing the cornering line. It's certainly not fast by any metric, but its steady torque and day-long ergos mean that you will probably arrive at your destination long before your sportbike crowd. Will I keep it? Nah, too old, too complicated, too grey-beard for me. But it's a pretty cool bike.

the stator itself, find a wiring diagram and ID the wires for what you need to check then measure how many ohms of resistance you have in the coils.
if its open loop its burnt out or broke a wire.

yeah talked to them a bit. They offered our guys like 6 free track days. Also everyone but me got their suspensions dialed in and spent the rest of the day gushing about how comfy their bikes feel now. Mistakes were made choosing to leave it, apparently stock settings are for a 205lb walmart american (i thought they would be for the average jap manlet, who probably weighs close to my 145lbs).

Do you guys only buy OEM parts if something breaks? How do you find out if a part you'll order from a third party will fit like it should if there isn't a lot of stuff written about it online?

I need a new turn signal but OEM costs $80 but there's cheaper alternatives online. However, I just got burned by one that I previously bought as it didn't mount properly :(

I know I saw your greentext post a few threards back and responded

I pretty much almost died riding it back on account of picking it up so late in the day. Was 2 hours out from home riding 130-140kmh in the pitch black, shit was scary.

When I got it home everything was good though, seemed a bit less powerful than I thought it would be but still an amazing machine. Just moved to sea level and sort of rediscovering its power has been pretty great. It's actually an R spec and not standard like I thought, meaning I got a fuckawesome deal.

I have to say, finding yourself without a front brake at the end of a straight is unpleasant. Should have taken pics of the baiku all sandy but I was more concerned with making sure she was alright. I heard motorcycles of the type "dual sport" or "sport enduro tourer", like pic realted, are more comfortable to ride than a "standard" bike, like the GS500. Is this true?

Is it just because wind doesn't hit you as much, or does it have something to do with the sitting position?

I assume either the brake pads (organic) or the brake fluid (kinda old but still looked good when I checked it this morning) got too hot. Probably the latter, considering the lever was basically just flopping around with no resistance.
Minimal damage as you can see. I got a couple bruises. Brakes were fine after I hosed down the bike.

That would be boiling brake fluid, prolly due to water in the fluid AND abrasive pads with a thin backing that allowed lots of heat to flow through the pistons into the fluid.

Change the fluid and get a set of Vesrah pads. Rub the old pad residue off the rotors with a Scotchbrite if you want to, but I'm guessing your organics are mostly abrasive and not very adhesive, so you may not have any residue to remove at all.

Extended suspension travel, improved windproof, the legs are less bent due to longer distance between seat and footpegs, larger seat. Upright sitting position lets the rider to stand on obstacles to keep his butt and spine from bumps. Yes, these bikes far more comfortable than road or classic or whatever bikes, especially for long rides.

Pressure washing is fine, if you follow up with that waterless wash stuff with a microfibre you'll get it nice and clean. It has wax in it too so it makes it easier to clean in future. Quite a few people make similar products but it's super handy to quickly clean off bird shit and dirt. It does a decent job on flies but I've got some more aggressive stuff for the more stubborn ones.

How bad is it riding on long rides?

Thinkin bout riding my FZ 07 down to socal (6 hours)
>>
>>17820969
Most shit gets pretty clean, as I only have painted parts on top.
It's the spoked wheels that are fucking annoying as shit to clean. Used to maintain it decently, they stayed shiny the first winter.
Last winter I didn't clean it properly and it just started to rust and I can't get the shit off.

I have space to work on my bike now, so I think I might remove the wheels/disks this weekend and clean them properly for once.

not bad at all, do you know what to check for a used bike?
>>
>>17822437
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I want to say yes but that'd be a lie. I know what to check for on a used car, but I know that's comparing oranges to grapefruits.

Things like tread wear and brake pad wear, I'm assuming? Check if the brake fluid is burnt/needs replacing? What would I need to check on the chain?
>>
>>17822426
Any good running bike for 1000bux is a good bike. Do it.
>>
>>17822452
I don't have my M-Class license yet but I have a cousin who used to ride that has a pick'm'up truck and he owes me a favor.

What all is involved in buying the baiku when I show up to the dude's trailer? Do I just give him $1k then walk away with bike & title in hand? Where do I pay the taxes for it, when I register it at the DMV/title office under my name?

Is it going to be harder to do if I live in TX and the title/bike/owner is New Mexican?
>>
>>17822444
For the chain check if there's a lot of rust or wear to tell you if you're going to have to change it soon.

Also ask for the guy not to turn it on before you getting there so you know how it starts cold.

We live in the desert so I doubt there'll be much rust to worry about but I'll keep that in mind. what about checking for chain "wear", is it one of those "when you see it, you'll know" type deals?

Why can't suzuki into aesthetic bikes?
>>
>>17822489
Look at the forks from the side and make sure they aren't bent
If you can get both wheels off the ground:
Spin the wheels to make sure they spin freely and don't bind, also watch the rims and make sure it doesn't wobble so you know they are not bent.
Try wiggling the wheels around as well, if there is lots of movement on the axle then it most likley needs new wheel bearings.
If you buy it do an oil and filter change on it before you ride it

Dual Sports can't handle the highway so I've crossed that off. Adventure bikes are too heavy for motocross, too expensive for a college student, and kind of gay looking. I originally wanted a Nighthawk for the sex-factor and low cost but it seems too heavy to do anything in the dirt. What do you think /dbt/?
>>
>>17823575

yes sir
>>
>>17822460
I bought my first bike in TX in June
There's a title transfer form you should print and take with you for both you and the seller to sign. Ofc you should also both sign the title. I got a bill of sale from somewhere (maybe revzilla?) that we signed and he got a copy of, but that's not required.
To get it registered you need an inspection done in the last 90 days, my guy was nice enough to get it done himself after I said I wanted to buy.
Whether or not you need an emissions test done during the inspection depends on whether the county you live in/are going to register it in requires one (mine was either old enough (2005) or had enough miles (30k) for that to be waived - likewise mine was old enough to not require an odometer reading at sale on the title or form).
You'll need proof of insurance too.
You pay the taxes when you register it, and you do that at a county tax assessor's office or courthouse or something. Not necessarily the DMV. You'll have to get a new plate since it was out of state but that's like 6-7 more bucks and they can hand you one when you register, no need to wait for one in the mail. Other than that I don't remember anything that sounded tricky about registering out of state purchases (but mine was in state so ymmv).

>>17822949

You'll be fine oh my god. Just get an SV650. I mean I took mine off road that's basically the same thing

Seriously you're overthinking it
>>
>>17822181
>Noord-Brabant/Zeeland.
Nice, know some nice roads there? I'm there more often but mostly for work.
>>
>>17823578
DR650 is probably the closest cheap bike to what you want.

Dirt riders aren't safer because of motocross, it's just because we're used to our bike sliding around so we know how to react when it happens on road.

If you really wanted to get into tough offroading you'd want a non-streetlegal Dirt bike.
>>
>>17823594
I dont need proof of insurance until after I buy it and get it registered+inspected, right? Not that I want to skip out on insurance
>>
>>17823730
So I'm honking about getting a dual sport and not a dirt bike cause I plan on riding to the trails and then possible if I get hungry or something if I'm close to St George just hop back on the roads
>>
>>17823749
Even still you're really restricted as to where you can take it. I would drop my bike like 3 times whenever I went out riding. If I had turn signals and mirrors on it they would be breaking off like crazy.
>>
>>17823749
Silly plan, most dual sports have about a 100 kilometer range in the fuel tank unless you have a 20+ litre safari tank.
>>
So I'm looking at a DR650 as a daily commuter and a tourer for around the state. Properly outfitted (right sprockets, bigger gas tank, painners) would it be a good option? There is an '03 with 10k miles for 2500 in my town that I've been looking at.
>>
Heya /dbt/
What are some of the essential tools I should get for my baiku?
Thinking about getting a tool-roll but first I need to know what tools I actually need to get.
>>
>>17824070
A socket set with 6mm-32mm sockets, breaker bar and extensions, a good set of ring spanners, a torque wrench, vernier calipers, feeler gauge, soft face hammer (copper or nylon either is fine) rubber mallet, screw drivers, allen keys.

thats pretty much the essentials.

I want to change the brake fluid on my bike. How much (roughly) do you need for that? It comes in 250 ml bottles, could one be enough or will I need more?

why? are there some specific differences in those year models of fireblades, r6 etc thats causing sucha huge fluctuation on price?
>>
>>17824238
Fireblade should specifically be the 1000, i think recently it's been turned into a trim name
The CBR is the most streetable, being the tamest
Gsxr and 636 are great stunt bikes since they're unkillable
R6 handles well
Gsxr 750 a better tho, more powerful while weighing the same
And i think it comes with Brembos
