Had my first spat of Road Rage yesterday, why are Truck-Cucks so cunty?

Was lanesplitting in dead stop traffic, road is a single lane in each direction with a wide shoulder and a broad grassy patch passed that. Most people are either oblivious or are making even more room.

A silver F150 edges into the shoulder to stop me from splitting so I stop and wait. Traffic moves a head of him but he doesn't move, the car behind me blares it's horn and he finally moves. I settle into the right edge of the lane and he decides to brake check me and come over to the right fully blocking the shoulder.

I stop easily in time and he looks (in the rearview)mad, like he expected me to fall?

He pulls back into the lane and I shoot across the shoulder onto the grass and zip around him.

Somebody had a massive stick up his ass.
>>
>>17571979
Crabs in a bucket.
>>
>>17571961
KLR650 is finicky: water cooling, and balancer likes to explode.

The DR650 is indeed bulletproof, but the XR650 tends to overheat (probably for lack of an oil cooler, which the DR has). The XR400 and DR350 are also bulletproof. All air-cooled jap singles designed before emissions were a thing, and they aren't trying to be super lightweight or powerful.
>>
>>17571979

I don't really care if someone doesn't want to move over for me when I lane split.

>>
>>17572021
Ugly.
>>
>>17572006
Because you can? Filtering should be legal. Why should I have to wait in traffic when I can safely move through it? So long as some angry cunt doesn't try and hit you filtering is perfectly safe.
>>
>>17572075
>So long as some angry cunt doesn't try and hit you
Or a law enforcement officer sees you. That's the main reason I don't filter in Oregon. I have a perfect driving record and I'd like to keep it that way.

Fortunately for me and my bike, we're moving to California in 7 days where it's perfectly legal to filter.
>>
>>17572090
What's the practical difference between filtering and going five-ten miles over the speed limit?

Speed kills. Mostly other people. Riding anywhere near cars also kills, but mostly just you.

Cops turn a blind eye unless they are bucket-crabs who are too scared to ride.

90% of cops here unfortunately. Most LEOs here have never even ridden a bike before. My city has two motorcycle cops, one of which is part time. That's what happens when you live in a small university town surrounded by fields and it rains like 85% of the year.
>>

Good thing you cover that FLAT spot with your fedora.
>>
>>17572097
Speed difference kills. People crashing into trees at 60 mph die because the trees don't move at 60 mph.
>>

>>
>>17572137
Bobber literally means "i took out the rear shock(s)"
If harleyfags have asscheeks too sore to ride a real one It's their fault
>>
>>17572135
Law abiding citizens aren't going 40-35 in a 30, or expecting you to when they pull out knowing they've made the same gap before in law-abiding traffic.

A loud ass bike pulling up through a line of stopped cars, or heading down the shoulder, poses no obstacle and no disturbance, but the risk of rider's own incompetance - inability to ride in a straight line and stop when needed - putting his own hapless body under the wheels of a crossover that does not give one fuck about the helmeted skull it's driving over.
>>
>>17572149
bobber means bobbed tail dude.

just means they make it minimal. doesn't have to do with the suspension. but i would agree that a massive majority of the bobbers are hard tails.

In my eyes there is no major difference in risk between slightly speeding and lane filtering. If anything, lane filtering is safer because it prevents you from getting rear-ended which can easily kill a motorcyclist.

I'm excited to move to a place that has better motorcycle laws though, and better weather for it too.

All I know is that its a 1980 KZ250LTD with the vin number KZ250D002762

is there any way I can get information from that vin?

If it all checks out after a very thorough inspection and the test ride, is this a good deal? I know the 7.5k mark for dookies is an expensive maintenance item, but are there any other hidden ducati wallet rape moments I may not be thinking of?

I'm actually helping a buddy of mine rebuild one of these right now. Engine turns over. oil looked okay, and we have a slide throttle carb for it, just have to hook it up and see if she'll run. Any recommendations on gear? I'm wondering if I should buy the boots first for the MSF course or if I can just squeak through with my work boots that cover the ankle.

Also what do I buy for ridin pants once I pass the course and get the bike?
>>
>>17573418
Engine size doesn't matter as much as they do on cars. A 650 is a lot tamer and easier to ride than a 600. A 500 has less than half the power of a 600 even though it's only 100cc less.

Just don't get something so outdated that it's a hazard to ride.
>>
>>17573435
GS500's are cheap, they're not good. They were already out of date when they released in the 80's.
>>
>>17573444
Work boots are fine for MSF.

>what do I buy for riding pants
I got by just fine with a leather jacket, some gloves, proper boots, and a helmet with jeans
>>
>>17573418
https://odessa.craigslist.org/mcy/d/suzuki-katana-cc/6222609598.html
>>
>>17573444

So I took the MSF through the military so it might be different, but all you need is some kind of boot that covers the ankle. *Technically* you just need ankle coverage in general and a pair of high top converse would pass, but it's ultimately up to the instructor and you might get booted out for wearing shit like that.

Other than that, long sleeves, long pants, gloves, and bring your own helmet if you don't want to wear one soaked in the sweat of a thousand mouthbreathers.
>>
>>17573458
How much do your boots need to cover your ankle? I have some work shoes that end pretty much right at the top of that ankle bone on the outside of the foot.
>>
>>17573458
>I got by just fine with a leather jacket, some gloves, proper boots, and a helmet with jeans
I know that's fine for the MSF course but I'm asking about gear to buy once I actually get my M-class license and buy the bike I want to buy.

Is daily'ing a bike with jeans a bad idea, or should I look into overpants?

>>17573475
>I took the MSF through the military
that sounds neat; I knew people could get a regular DL through the military but I didnt know you could get a moto license too. You reckon work gloves would be too flimsy, or are they just supposed to protect you from skinning your hands?
>>
>>17573469
actually I'm a little further out west...

https://elpaso.craigslist.org/mcy/d/triumph-bonneville/6226933858.html

Is this "too much bike" for a beginner? seems like a great deal and I could probably talk him down if I showed up ready to write a check/pay cash
>>
>>17573488
I ride to work with regular pants but if I go for a ride I put kevlar jeans with kneepads on.

I never used to ride with riding pants but saw a friend go down, break his leg in 2 places, and put an inch wide hole in his knee down the bone. Went out and bought some the next day.
>>
>>17573488

It isn't really through the military, basically it's just the MSF course ran by MSF instructors on a military base. Civilians can take it, but military get preference. It's the same thing through and through, just free and you get head of the line privileges over civilians.

What makes motorcycle gloves different is their shape, they have a natural curve in them. Work gloves are garbage for riding, at least pick up a pair of cheap motocross gloves or something. You spend literally all day of the MSF covering the clutch, you don't want to be fighting your gloves to keep finger bent.

Commuting in jeans or normal pants is normally what I do, but I wear actual riding pants if I know I'm gonna be opening up the throttle or hitting twisties. There's kevlar reinforced jeans that are a good middle ground. Overpants aren't a bad idea either.
>>
>>17573510
>>17573512
So it wouldn't be overkill to buy the gloves and the helmet for the MSF course then buy some riding pants after I buy the bike? I wanna do things right
>>
>>17573506
>triumph bonneville
>too much bike for a beginner
nice meme
>>
>>17573522
Helmet, gloves, and riding jacket are definitely the priority but boots and pants shouldn't be ignored either. Unless you want your foot to literally fall off if you fall on it the wrong way.

Imagine yourself jumping out of your car on the freeway, you'd want some decent protection.
>>
>>17573528
I've literally never ridden a bike before and all I know is some people say "wul hey there sonny dont start out on sumthin TOO big now, y'might go too fast'n crash", but I also read a lot of posts on /dbt/ or on /o/ in general about bikes being so slow that they become dangerous on the road

so im just trying to get the non-meme facts here
>>
>>17573536
60hp is where you should aim for anything that isn't a cruiser.

Plenty of power, but not too much.
>>
>>17573522

Nope. That's how I did it. I had all of my riding gear and even a bike before I took the MSF. Granted, I practiced illegally in my friend's neighborhood and rode to the MSF (it's legal to ride to/from the MSF even though you aren't licensed yet, at least in Washington), but other people trucked their bikes in to take the course on them.

If you're trying to buy a lot of gear at once (like a whole set) check out BurnOutItaly. Everything they sell is real (not knock offs or whatever) and pretty heavily discounted. Shipping is expensive though, so build the same cart at somewhere like revzilla and see if your overall savings are better after shipping is factored. If you get higher end gear, it's typically cheaper from burnout even after shipping is factored (its like 50 bucks).

This. Fair weather riders are fine and all, but you definitely become a more skilled rider from riding in all (okay, most) weather conditions. My bike is my primary means of transportation aside from my SO's 2013 Camry. I'm perfectly happy riding around in the rain as long as I have halfway decent gear to keep me mostly dry.

>Stop enjoying your small, cheap machine. Look at my two-wheeled penis pump! Don't you want this?!?!?!
Not stupid enough to pass in a corner...
The point is having fun safely. On a 250-500 you can use every ounce in the canyons. With a super-anything you hit the wall before third gear.
I mean, unless you can afford a street sweeper and police escort everywhere you go.

Inb4 never touched a superbike: Been on a couple test rides. It was fun, but the extra power isn't worth the loss of fuel efficiency. 75-87 mpg adds up within the month, when you like to ride all day.

I will continue to enjoy things. Daily. Because I can always afford gas. You can just do you.
(Vaguely unrelated, but Imma itabaiku my next one. Anybody know some about full wraps? Composition tips, so the background matches the lines of the bike?)
>>
>>17575095
You can use anything safe in the canyons. Nobody said you had to push the engine to its limits in every corner, reaching behind "this is fun" speeds and going into full rossi "i am the bike, the bike is me, if this front tire hits a fly we're both tumbling down a cliff" territory. It's actually very easy NOT to.

Also, as for MPGs, I would actually prefer one of those euronip market 400cc supersports over a 250. Every single US modern market 250 is a low grade twin or single with a low grade suspension and low grade chassis. I'd rather ride an aging UJM with a floppy tube frame and forks the size of my thumbs. The 650s not made by kawasaki fare better, but they're still not meant to be track weapons in any situation.

I'll add them to the candidate list, so I could try them myself too. It's a little hard to find well-fitting anything, so compromise here and there isn't unheard of.
(Dianese mesh gloves: Long fingers, nice palm, HUGE WRIST HOLE.)

i think most everyone would be fine with 250s and 300s if they were styled like supersports instead of like awkward looking SEA scooters
>>
>>17575119
Yeah, 400cc would be perfect compromise.
>>
>>17575134
You can always head out to the shop and get some "cold cams" or whatever and work on detuning your 600 for less power and better fuel economy
>>
>>17575127
Remember too that gauntlet style gloves are going to have larger wrist holes because they are made to go over your riding jacket and waterproof layer.
The extra room is empty space from what I can tell. When I scrunch up the finger on the gloves with my other hand there's still some wiggle room beyond where my fingers naturally end.

You are a poorfag and a filthy weaboo. Why do you feel the need to defend your shitbike so vehemently? And what is with the "Just do you" shit you spout while simultaneously complaining about people enjoying different bikes than you? Please end your life slowfag.

Obviously, he's just poor. Slow bikes are worse in the end.
Going WOT all day without worrying about hitting 80 in first gear is kind of fun, everyone knows it, everyone likes pinning their wrist, but it's funner to ride a fast bike slow and then ride it fast when people starting getting the idea that they can actually keep up with you. Pinning it and not getting anywhere gets old, riding at quarter throttle and then taking off like a street legal JATO does not. Ever.

Thrill of the chase.

Reevaluate your perception of the topic at hand. We started off discussing the validity of the "250 is enuff" in face of the "no liter no peter" meme.
If you want to internalize every jab, that's your problem, but it's fundamentally an explanation of my opinion. "You do you" is literally recognizing the validity of the other guy's.
Have an anime tiddie for your trouble.

What do you think? I think this looks much better. It'd be perfect if I just got off my ass and washed it.

Special service. Enjoy.
>>
>>17575177
The chase is more thrilling at a racetrack where bigger bikes really shine, FYI.

200 bucks a day and maybe new rubber and brake pads...
is cheaper than a $200 speeding ticket, $$$$? reckless driving charge, and higher insurance rates for the next two years. Or worse, having no motorcycle, and maybe no feeling in your lower body, because you hit a guardrail's support post and your motorcycle flipped over it and landed in the ocean, while somewhere a track rider slid down a gravel trap looking pretty relaxed and walked off ten seconds later.
>>
>>17575193
This guy track days.

I'm all for riding like hell and honing skills, but PLEASE do it in designated safer areas like tracks, drag strips, or at the very least some never used old farm road.
>>
>>17575201
Yeah, but if you do all your crazy shit on a track, how can you justify owning a 250 when the costs of running a 600 or 750 on the track are only marginally worse?

Slow bike fast isn't very fast when the guy on the 600 is actually giving it his all instead of freaking out at every apex because he thought he saw gravel.
>>
>>17575207
Yeah I'm in complete agreement with you there. As long as you have self control and know the limits of your skill, there's no reason to avoid a mid-size bike as a beginner.

My first bike was just under 700cc and I never had any trouble with "too much power". The biggest hurdle I faced (and I think many new riders are this way) was learning to trust the bike and the tires so I felt more comfortable leaning through corners. To me it never felt natural leaning the bike at high speeds through a corner, but you practice and get better over time. A track is a perfect place for that.
>>
>>17575228
The biggest hurdle with big bikes is probably throttle control, especially on this newer EFI shit. On/off throttle+powerful engines makes you want to run a gear too high in corners for the first few weeks until you get used to leaning a little more or actually using the fucking clutch.
>>
>>17575228
Oh and I'd also like to point out something else. While it's important to ride what you enjoy and not worry about "too much power", it's also important to ride what you enjoy, and don't get pressured into buying a super sport or any class of bike that doesn't interest you, or that you can't financially support.

If you want to ride adventure bikes or cruisers, more power to you, that's cool. If you want to ride super sports at a track and get your lap times down and skills up, then that's awesome too.

TLDR: Don't be afraid of bikes because of their size or class, but also stick to what interests you. Don't buy something just because somebody else likes it.
>>
>>17575240
Also don't buy bikes because someone else doesn't like it.

Now matter how many scooter hoons call you a straight line baby because you ride a 929 with race-styled graphics, someone else always thinks you look fucking awesome.
>>
>>17575181
I prefer it with the mini fairing. Without it I see the mounting bracket and weird looking gauge/screen.
>>
>>17575251
That too. You don't want to be one of those idiots that rides some idiotic bike just to grab attention.

The one thing I hate the most about car and bike cultures is that there are these people interested in a certain type of vehicle and think everyone who rides anything they don't like aren't "real" drivers/riders. You see this with car culture between ricers and muscle cars, and you see this with bike culture between cruisers and sports. Why the fuck can't we just appreciate various forms of the same hobbies?

People are assholes, I swear. Everyone seems to think their perspective or opinion is "the right one".

Speaking of off road, what makes a flat-track bike?
I'm looking to expand the stable at some point, and actually think it would be cool to start with that instead of an adv or straight cruiser.
I'm thinking of forest service roads and desert trails a couple seasons from here.
I know Indian runs the competition circuit, but for personal use I'm thinking Japanese reliability.

Made me lol. Thought you were kidding at first, but then realized you were being sincere. It's actually just an aftermarket windshield I bolted on shortly after buying the bike.

The front now looks completely stock except for the low profile LED indicators. Do you really think the windshield looks better?
>>
>>17575277
It's the tribalistic mentality. No one wants to admit it,but we like things that are alike. Cruiser bros like cruisers, same with everything else. Some people are just capable of appreciating other things and viewpoints. While others are not.
>>
>>17575283
(What I get for knowing literally nothing)
I know scrambler style bikes use upturned pipes and bashplates... Soft suspension and springy bars are probably a must too.
Handguards. And, for some reason old fashioned flat saddles seem to be the norm?
>>
>>17575292
For me, yes. I think the mounting bolts on the headlight, mixed with the ignition key mechanism look odd. Of course irl I might have a different viewpoint.
>>
>>17575296
I for one want to have a sports bike and a cruiser simultaneously. I'd really like to get an Indian Scout to add to my garage in addition to the bike I already have.

I can appreciate the machine whether it's a dirt bike, cruiser, tourer, super sport, naked, or whatever. Same with cars. I love BMWs, Challengers, classics, and Teslas just to name a few. I wish more people were this way. It'd sure make the culture less toxic overall.
>>
>>17575311
I concur, even with my limited experience in car/bike culture it is that way in most hobbies.
I also think if those people would ride/use the other bikes they might be able to understand.

It's kinda funny because those "mounting bolts" aren't actually made for supporting a windshield. Yamaha doesn't even make a windshield for the bike even after four years. Those bolts are actually what holds the top part of the headlight housing in place.

The windshield didn't even fit the bike when I received it. I had to do some metalwork on the included mounting bracket (not pictured) just to get it to line up properly.

I don't know why I thought I needed a windshield two years ago. It just pushed the wind up to my face is all.

This picture demonstrates the windshield quite fully. I don't think it looks very good with the bike.

>I also think if those people would ride/use the other bikes they might be able to understand.
This is a huge part of it. I used to hate cruisers for being overpriced (subjective), under performing (for what task?), heavy, slow pieces of shit. Then I rode some different cruisers just for shits and realized, surprise surprise, different cruisers are completely different from one another, just like sport bikes.

Judging all cruisers based on for example a Harley Davidson Softail is just ignorant. It'd be like judging all sport bikes based on a CBR500R.
>>
>>17575323
I am not surprised that the wind hits your face. That can always be the downside with aftermarket fairings. It makes since that those bolts support the headlight. I will have to say it looks ugly from the front. It should have been more rounded.

I want to go for a ride with my newly liberated front end but it's almost 1 AM and my exhaust isn't exactly quiet. What do?

Maybe I'll just push the bike to the street, start it there and slowly drive off. That way I'm not idling in front of my apartments at all waking people up.
>>
>>17575348
You always can... If you do, look for new areas to ride. That is always what I like to do, or hit the touge, not a great idea at night though.

>>

I'm just kind of hyper tonight. I think partially because I was so upset with my new neighbors toking up the whole apartment block. They were smoking so much weed next door my entire apartment smelled like a dead skunk. No way I could sleep through that shit. I channeled that frustration into working on my bike and now I'm just eager to ride in the middle of the night.

because 4 cylinders tend to have a smaller cylinder diameter so they need more rpm to produce horsepower/torque, more rpm = more fuel burned

also, 4 cyllinder are usually tuned for high rev powerband (10/12k rpm), while single/twin have the powerband at around 4/6k rpm
