I might just buy a cbr250 or 250 ninja and build a cafe bike when I am able to legally ride a cb500.

$9000 commuter bike. For a failing company like harley that only sells bikes and T shirts, that's as low as they can go before they start making losses. They're not yamaha. They can't sell $8k bikes with super tiny profit margins and high tech because they prop themselves up with electric piano sales.

Once upon a time, multiple times actually, harley had a chance to diversify their efforts and become a strong company with a base in multiple markets. They were poised to make performance standards, sportbikes, scooters, snowmobiles, outboards, basically shit other than cruisers and touring cruisers. This would have been great for america. More jobs, more money flowing into the country, more international respect, better motorcycles. Not one damn dollar would have to be mailed off to tokyo if you wanted a damn fine motor vehicle. But they retreated back into their shell and said "more cruisers would be a safer business venture. let's get to work on moar Vtwins!". Great idea, focusing on one market. Surely that market will never change, right guys?

Harley davidson, a legacy of cowardice and stagnation. Life is no paradise for the meek, and every coward will shrivel up and die once the world unknowingly ceases to cater to them.

Now that half a damn lifetime has passed and indian is coming back (actually polaris), maybe the US will have a chance at besting honda again.
>>
I find it ironic that hipsters say all modern bikes look the same when a cb500 looks just like a gs400.

Oh yeah, they're trying alright.

If only they marketed what are clearly standards as standards. Easy to ride, unremarkable bikes for normal people - what they would be seen as if not for the davidson badge on the side and associated marketing fluff. I imagine more people would be interested if you met the nicest people on a harley.

Instead this 80whp "monster" is their super fucking fast sporting machine and the roadster is a fashion accessory for retro helmet donning topknot aficionado.

>>17570146
There are two kinds of riders. Those who ride harley and those who wish they did.
I must admit in my earlier years I owned a chopstick scooter. We all have parts of our life we aren't proud of. And every time I lay my true American thunder into a 35mph posted turn at a buck-20 I feel the spirit of 1776 entering my body and purging any trace remnants of rice and squintie eyes.

gs400 a good, you really only have age-related issues now (rubber, guages run out of lube squeee-failm etc) and of course the regulater will need replacement with something from an ATV, and the cam chain tensioner will leak oil until rebuilt.

I post elliot pics ironically to indicate selfawareness of my own mental illness. Neither women nor modern society are the reason I'm alone, the fault lies with me, but I can't help feeling impotent rage.

Okay, new R/R is installed, the frame is mildly protesting on the right side but all screws went in without much trouble. I want to believe that around 8:30 when the sun will be setting I'll go out, ride a bit and then come home and let the bike rest overnight and have it operational the next day.

Please send your hopes and prayers.

I'm actually just a tad worried the fucklong R/R cable is taking up valuable space meant for cooling off the unit. I think I'll feel it up after riding to see how hot it gets (manufacturer claims it has its own cooling and runs better than stock) though I have nothing to compare it to since I never felt up the old one.

Is there anything else I should be worried about?

reliable means it operates as expected and intended. if you expect it to break or start wearing down at an advanced rate after a while, and it does, it's functioning reliabily.

But a BMW that is not explicitly designed to have the VANOS seals blow somewhere between 20k and 30k miles or something is not reliable, because even though that happens more or less reliably, because it's not stated by the manufacturer to be intended to happen. That's just a manufacturing defect or shit design, like harley twin cams lunching themselves out of warranty.

R/R saga guy here

thing works, don't think i need to check battery with MM since the neutral light was so bright I had to double check i'm not being blinded by the sun reflecting off of something. Unit did wiggle around despite being held by 4 zipties attached at two points.

Now the worse part: it runs hot. I can clearly feel it without gloves through the plastic, and touching the metal heatsink-looking parts is painful enough after a few seconds for me to need to pull back.

I'll fuck with it tomorrow again, I'll see if I can't put that cable somewhere somehow, inspect it for potential heat damage sustained riding just now.

Worst comes to worst I'll ride it til it breaks, right?

Thanks for holding my hand through this.

Is yours the naked model or the half fairing model? If it's a naked bike, then there's nothing to block the wind from your head, chest, legs, and hands, so yeah you're gonna get tired from the wind.

I'll say you do get a bit more used to it over time, but naked bikes just aren't made for long distance travel. I want to take my FZ-07 down to California from Oregon, which is about a 960 mile ride, but instead I'm just having it shipped down. I know I'd be dangerous exhausted before the trip was over.

Pick one.
Really though, if you want something for on and off road that's also capable of traveling some distance comfortably, you gotta get an adventure bike. That's literally what they are made for. Something like a Super Ténéré is what you're looking for.

If you get a smaller dual sport like a 450 it's not going to be comfortable at highway speeds for very long.

As far as I know from my fairly limited experience with light bikes, light bikes tend to suck when cruising on the highway unless they have incredibly good aerodynamics. Even then wind gusts and nearby semi trucks tend to blow around even the most aerodynamic bikes. For example a Ninja 250 which is definitely made for the street still sucks for highway travel.

Adventure bikes are so heavy for many reasons. They're more stable at speed, durable off-road, and usually have a few creature comforts such as power outlets and GPS navigation.

What you're looking for is something that I don't think is really possible unfortunately. You can put a windshield and half fairing on many dual sports though, which might get you closer to what you want.

It's a bit like wanting a fuel efficient vehicle also capable of towing a fifth wheel trailer.
>>
>>17571632

Power isn't the problem, weight is on the freeway. A heavy sumo is not a fun sumo unless you are on the freeway and that's not what sumos are for AT ALL.

Dakar Rally bikes are now based off 450 enduros. They are built stronger to carry the extra weight of the gas ( huge tanks ) and gear. Maintenance intervals would be brutal for what you want to do and it'll still suck on the freeway.

Change the oil every 500 miles, filter every third change. Check the valves every once in a while as long as you keep a clean well fitted/oiled air filter. If the filter looks dirty at all, clean it. I have almost 200 hours on my WR now and the valves still haven't moved from new. If you are not going to bother with the air filter, check valves every other oil change, plan top end rebuild at 100 hrs.

welcome to the am6 club.

first off, your bike has a replica AM6 engine that means certain things wont be interchangeable.

Cilinder, Piston, ignition and crankshaft are the same on every other am6 bike.

Clutch plates and anything transmission related not.

The CPI is restricted to around 60km/h +- with these things in place.

-closing ring in the exhaust
-Jet in the carb
-Catalysator in the exhaust
-in very rare cases a gasket somewhere in the cilinder itself.

With a different exhaust and a bigger jet it will probably run you around 80-90km/h depending on how good the replica wants to run.

The spark plug is a NGK BPR9ES.

You need to mix your oil with your gasoline yourself. AM6 is standard 1:50 but i'd take 1:45 or 1:40.

That means 1 liter for every 40 liters of gasoline so effectively, 100ml for 4 liters.

Have fun driving around and making everyone crazy.

Like I said earlier, you want something that doesn't exist.

Can any of you guys recommend supermoto like bikes, I'm not so concerned about speed, I would live an fz 09 but I don't know if doing jumps and doing light off road on an fz 09 is a good idea
