Anyone have tips for checking if my sprockets are aligned correctly after a chain adjustment? I think it's right but I could be wrong, I used a caliper to measure from the nut thing to the end of the swing arm and it seems to the same, possibly like 1mm off. Assuming it is 1mm off what does that mean?

Sorry if these are dumb questions im NewBike
>>
>>17560508
Motionpro sells a tool for it. Otherwise you can run string from the rear wheel to the front and make sure it's a straight line, which is a bitch.

Alternatively, measure from center of swingarm pivot to rear axle on both sides of swingarm. If it's the same, it's aligned.

Hey dbt, I have a question for you.

I live in Florida and am considering buying a CBR 5-600. How difficult is it to highway ride 200+ miles a day 2-3 days out of the week 1.5 hours each way?

I like to drive to Orlando/Miami at night and then drive home in the morning, but I don't know if I'll be able to manage it on a bike.
>>
>>17560568
>my bike breaks the laws of physics
Get outta here bus rider.
>>
>>17560584
There's a big jump between the 500 and 600.

If you're not doing sporty riding I'd get a touring bike, and if you're interested in more sporty stuff I'd get something like a FJR1300/VFR800 since they're more touring oriented and a bit more comfortable for that distance.
>>
>>17560584
ez as shit. 200 miles is nothing
>>
>>17560600
>>17560601

How many miles do you guys manage before you start to get fatigued? What about long rides at night after hours of physical activity?

I would go do a test run by myself, but no friends.

I know right? I love my vstar 650
>>
>>17560615
I normally do 3 hours before I start to feel sore, but I'm kind of in the minority since most people seem to hate life on something comfy like a gixxer 1000 or fireblade within 30 minutes of riding and I'm on what is probably one of the most uncomfortable bikes in dbt.
>>
>>17560584
>>17560615
How the fuck do you even get "fatigued" on the highway?
It's not like you're riding a mountain pass hard, your ass will simply get sore, take a break of half an hour walking around a bit and you'll be as good as new.
>>
>>17560615
get a bike with good low and midrange. midsized twins or very big i4 engine. if you're chilling on the highway, wind blast and gear changes are your enemy.

Why does my bike randomly jump to like 3K rpm for about 10 mins after a cold start and riding off. Feels like there's a huge discrepancy between the idle with the choke up while I'm putting on my gear and with the choke down and a mile down the road

I have to pull over and twist my idle adjust screw like 3 or 4 times before it's "warmed up" enough to idle normally for the rest of the trip

How does straight piping affect air/fuel ratio? My collector is rusting out so i'm considering just cutting it off completely, we'll see who's loud then.

>>
>>17561046
>How does straight piping affect air/fuel ratio?
depends on how bad your exhaust was designed, if its just a glass pack with straight through pipe and a perforated liner there shouldn't be much of a difference
>My collector is rusting out so i'm considering just cutting it off completely
If you mean straight individual pipes off the headers, with no merge then that may affect afr and could alter slightly where your engine wants to make power
>>

>>
>>17561101
>depends on how bad your exhaust was designed, if its just a glass pack with straight through pipe and a perforated liner there shouldn't be much of a difference
Well it's a 4 into two with a collector on the two inner cylinders. Supposedly that's the bottleneck and if you keep the collector in place but remove the baffles from the muffler, the a/fr doesn't change.

>If you mean straight individual pipes off the headers, with no merge then that may affect afr and could alter slightly where your engine wants to make power

That initially was the plan but upon further inspection i've realized that would point the two inner exhausts directly at my back tire and i don't want to melt my new chinko.

Thanks for the info m88.
>>
>>17561046
backpressure, can make it weird at low RPMs.

My baffles are held in by 3 bolts each so if I ever feel like being a hooner I can easily rip em out and sound like a Harley

generally when you improve the engines ability to breath it will need more fuel, but that's assuming the exhaust it what is holding the bike back. The difference may not be much though, since it will vary machine to machine there is no definitive way to know on your bike without seeing what other people have done already.
>>
>>17561183
Usually yes, youre gonna move more air with a straight pipe, more air more fuel.

I've been looking at 1 and 2 piece textile suits. My issue is with the design of the suits. It seems like every textile gear designer just smashes out the maximum amount of pockets, zips, buckles, studs, inner zips, and buttons possible with every suit.

I'm like bruh I carry my gear in a top box I don't need a billion zips. Give me something quick to put on and take off, and make it durable. That's all I ask.

The picture I posted was from one of my best friends // gsxr 750 after he almost died on it (picture taken at bldg they brought it to after scraping it off the pavement)...he had to be flight-for-life'd to a specialist hospital and sustained brain damage which changed his personality...he was a different person afterwards and has since passed away from an overdose as a side effect from his new personality which made him impulsive/mood swing/kinda crazy The 600 I crashed was my own fault, and I felt it was important to be honest with myself on why I crashed and not bullshit myself about how it happened. Wrung out first gear and grabbed too much brake on cold tires/cold street. I was an idiot plain and simple and because of that it snapped a piece of my upper arm bone off (still in there in the muscle somewhere) and dislocated my arm/cut off blood flow. By the time I got to the hospital my arm was green/white/blueish and hanging a good maybe three inches longer than my other arm. I was in physical therapy for a little over 3 months learning to use my arm again. I have permanent loss of range to some extent and it will never get any better. I have to stretch my arm/shoulder out often to help maintain the range I currently have. Did it suck? yeah. Does it suck I lost range of movement? Yeah. Do I still ride...of course.

RIP Misko I will see you again brother

You must smoke crack to think that. The 4th and 5th Gen ZX-10R are great bikes...10R went euro-4 compliant before the others but still make great power with minimal mods. They are mopping the floor with the others in WSBK. The new 10RR is a badass mofo. To be fair the others have stepped up their game but the new cbr is still down on power, the R1 is still playing catch-up same with the suzi...and yes the ape and the bimmer are good too.

Most if not all traffic motorcycle accidents are avoidable by being extremely defensive, proactive and stay in safe spots. Like a pedestrian. Is that guy going to pull out in front of you? Always. Is that bitch going to turn into you? Always. Be like a pedestrian. As far as other types of crashes, don't ride like a vape king. If you do, go to a track.

>>
So, ghetto-rigging my $900 shitbike.
I ran ~500 miles last weekend, and the way down the mountain vibrated my muffler off. About a quarter down the cone.
I looked up the price of a single side, it's 248+shipping.
Alternatively, webike sells a 2-1 full system for ¥20,825, roughly $250 if currency stays stable.

However, I literally bought this bike because it was cheap and efficient. There are other things I like about it, but I was going to replace it at the next thaw anyways.
My third idea is just wrapping the crack in exhaust tape. I think that's $35.
So, /dbt/, any experience with exhaust tape? Would it survive a summer, then winter attached to a p-twin? Other options?

Get a used one with like 10k on it. Any issues should be worked out by then. I've put 4500km on mine this year, odometer is at 16,500 now. Runs great, no issues so far other than an oil leak right off the bat on the final drive, most likely from the previous owner not tightening the bolts enough, and now the left card has developed a small gas leak out the bottom of the bowl. Just waiting on some replacement stainless steel screws and new fuel line/filters so I can get everything done at once.

Has anyone on here added hard luggage to their bike? I'm weighing up whether it's worthwhile.

pros:
>ultra easy to use
>you can put luggage on almost any bike you want
>keeps your shit clean and dry

cons:
>probably $1000 for a set of cases and racks

I'm >>17562596 and having added 3 bags (two at first, then the top one later) I can tell you for example this givi monokey system has been great, but they do get dirty inside as well.

My siggestion is to get a set of hard bags with the soft inner bag/liner type thingies. Those will save your clothes and other stuff you have in there from dust/sand.

Also, hard bags are so easy to take off and put back it's ridiculous. But, I've also gone on a 5000 km trip with just soft bags (a sports bag on the passenger seat and a large tank bag) and it really wasn't a big deal packing or unpacking every day. Use some packingcubes and/or smaller packing bags inside your soft bags to organize stuff and to make it easier to pack-unpack daily.

Personally I prefer having a watertight luggage roll on the rack, maybe my backpack on the rear seat. If I need even more space than that, either a tank bag if I plan on filtering, or saddlebags if I need shitloads of space and don't plan on filtering.

Nice zr7s by the way, they are an underrated bike. Dust gets in to monokey bags? That's pretty shit considering the price they charge for them. I've done soft bags on the DR and backpacks strapped to seats before that. But I'm just sick of fucking around with them, they need constant attention and fiddling. If they made simple and secure soft bags I'd consider them.

>>17562612
>>17562623
The big U shape bags are probably the best of the soft luggage. My issue is that one size fits all = one size fits none, so they're never tremendously secure. Plus the aforementioned strap/buckle/adjustment admin that plagues soft luggage.

>>17562656
Well the high mass/bulk is a given if you are taking a lot of luggage on a trip. The question is how do you package it in a way that makes sense.

I do take exception to the cost though, what the fuck. $200 for racks made out of ultra basic tubing, $300 for mass produced plastic boxes. They must be making huge margins or sell tiny, inefficient volumes.

No, you didn't say anything about weight or style of bike. And harley's don't even have that much torque for how big their engines are.

I am a retard when it comes to, amongst other things, electricity. Some things on my bike are broken (like fuel gauge), and I need a multimeter to diagnose the problem. I want to test fuses, check for cable breakage etc.

What multimeter do I buy? So far I have decided on autorange to compensate for my retardation, max 250V (so I can use it for the house as well), and a replaceable fuse.

Sub $100 plz

Yeah, that pic is from the first time she rode with me, her previous relationship was with a no helmet cruiser guy. This was a few years ago.

I've since bought her a full face
