I've heard a windshield can actually make the wind worse by creating buffeting around your helmet or some such thing. Is this accurate?

Had a ~30 minute ride on one of these today. Impressive riding well beyond the spec sheet.
>creamy smooth injection
>sweet, sweet howl from the stock can
>quite flickable for a sport tourer
>cleanly pulls from ~1500 rpm to redline
>lower body feels super locked in to the bike
>all the small details work together smoothly

I rate it. I'd probably spring for a 1050 for DAT triple exhaust/headlight combo.

Lol this meme again. First off I'm 26
Had 60k cash in the bank when I got the bike and am a business owner.
You don't get any prizes or awards for paying cash on a 20,000 harley.

I suppose I just pay cash on my 230k rig too? If it interests you I paid 6k cash for my custom moose bumper which just hangs off the front of my truck to look cool.

I went on to a fb group about cafe racers and asked how 80's bikes handle compared to modern sports bikes.

People said said bikes like the cb500 are a little bottom heavy compared to modern bikes but still handle okay. This was said by people who own both cafe racers and modern bikes.

Why did you lie to me and say all 80's sports bikes handle bad and aren't fun to ride?

Which CB 500 were they talking about? The four cylinder model, one of the CB 500 twins (PC 26 and 32), the Euro 2 successor CBF 500 or the newest CB 500 F?
The PC26/32 are very easy to throw around compared to the CBF 500 (PC 34 I think).

Most riders go for faster and faster bikes early in their career, until they inevitably downsize into something fun

The CB 500 Four was made until 1978, the CB 500 (PC 26) was produced from 1993 onwards. There were no 80s CB 500s.

Why are the majority of motorcycles I see on the road honda CBRs?

Seriously at the top of my local mountain there is a look out where bike riders stop and chat.

Oh it's done and sold. Was actually my older brothers bike he bought to cafe...so he spent all kinds of money and had an extra motor and had it all nice and got it running nice with pods/lightweight battery/clubman bars/pc frame/etc...and rode it like maybe 10 times / to Rockerbox when it was still held in Milwaukee and then sold it for a huge loss. It was a cool little bike. Wat too small for me though I am 6'2" 250 and I looked like a monkey fucking a football when I would ride it kek. I've got pics of it finished somewhere on one of these harddrives. Rockerbox in case you are wondering:

It was never a primary bike as he had a much better/bigger/upright bike for daily so it was just a toy he had for a while...but I still can't figure out why he sold it so quick for such a loss. I think he just liked building it. Ended up buying guns with most of the money from it...then got rid of his other bike and quit riding. He just called me about a week ago and said he was looking at bikes again so fingers crossed maybe I'll ride with him again. Pic unrelated

Noticed last ride when I shift up, the lever sticks at the top until I give it a light tap to make it reset.

I don't have to press it all the way back down, just tap it and then it snaps back into place, so I don't think it's a spring issue. Clutch in or out doesn't matter, still gets stuck and still returns with a tap. Gets into gear just fine.

I first noticed this behavior two rides ago but I could swear that then it was only happening after shifting up into 5th and 6th and the lower gears were fine... but desu I'm a new rider and was just trying out the top gears for the first time that ride, so I might have miscounted and thought I ran out of gears when actually the lever was getting stuck and/or vice versa. Been riding late night to avoid traffic on highways etc so couldn't see the lever, just feel it.

On the last ride though it was definitely happening even after upshifting to 2nd, checked it out with a street light etc.

Those things are meant to go fast. That means that the chassis has to be a certain way, same goes with the fairings, ergos, position of the engine/fuel tank/air box/etc.

Not only that but they have to stick to homologation standards.

To say that they are carbon copies is stupid, they're pure function.

Dude. Seriously. Do you smoke crack? Boulders as big as your mommas shoulders? That's a fucking Bimota and an EBR. They have different brakes, frames, swingarms, chassis, motor, paint, suspension, exhaust. Look at the frames. Look at the tails. OPEN YOUR FUCKING EYES JACKASS. Are you literally this retarded? Form follows function so yes they are both aerodynamic and have a similar rake/trail and are generally hi power and light weight. But to think that means they are all the same is frankly a pitiful response. I am actually sad for you. Poor guy.

acted like a normal z1000 till 6500 rpm - then all hell broke loose
The madmen just put a turbokit on a stock z1r for this mind you - nothing on the engine itself had been changed. Main problems were the turbo was set too high by the dealer, around 1,5-2bar while Kawasaki suggested for the start to set it at just 0,5 bar.

but the frame they used is in essence still that of a z1. It's been stiffened for the z1000 update but it wa still out of date even then, now imagine the engine's power being doubled without adjusting anything to the same frame.

Are clutch-up wheelies bad for the bike? Assuming I rear-brake down and don't just slam the front end down

Not really, try to apply a little bit of rear brake before you even initiate the wheelie to take tension out of the chain, alleviates some of that yanking motion in it.

This is a mass market sportbike from 1985. Look at this.

It has a friendly, non-threatening aesthetic that nonetheless does not compromise racing performance
It has a comfortable, inviting seat for rider AND passenger (holy shit, passenger comfort on a sportbike?)
Absolutely nothing is spike-shaped for no goddamn reason
The fender is not a dangling penis-like thing hanging off the back

Where the fuck did the people who designed bikes like these go? Fucking ducati?

And before someone says "it's to go faster bro! weight redux/sick aeros!", this is an actual motoGP bike from the same manufacturer. If you tacked street legality shit onto this it would look more or less like a spiritual successor to the old GSXRs, and less like the edgy new GSXRs, though the butt-stopper tail would have to be lowered a bit to keep the fender unoffensive and add a comfy passenger seat

Tech evolves. I'm pretty sure the shape of the 1980s fairings wasn't as sleek as those of today, the ergos of modern bikes are certainly better suited to racing than a god damned '85 gixxer. Seat comfort won't make you go faster either, anon.

If you want a modern bike like this go for a CBR 650F, Ninja 1000, Ducati Supersport or similar.
>>
>>17565136
because a sport tourer weighs 500+lbs. you'll never even learn to corner on a bike like that. you'd spend all your time being afraid of the power AND the weight, and the weight is actually difficult to manage. also soft suspensions make them less stable as you corner harder and harder. the sport bike guys here at least try to get a little better, and they have the right bikes for the job.

ALSO: maintenance. sport tourers are hard as fuck to work on 99% of the time.

>linked brakes
>ABS
>shit jam packed in there
>30 bolts to take off one fairing
>etc
>>
99% of bitching about modern bike design boils down to the fairings not covering the engine.

Bikes are acceptable fair-weather DDs if you can lane split/have the balls to break the law

Cops here see it as the counterpart to going 5 over and don't really care

Going 5 over: Dangerous if only one person does it, does not get anyone anywhere significantly faster except over very long distances especially if there are traffic lights on the route, you anger faggots by not doing it
Lane splitting: Dangerous if everyone does it at once, gets you where you're going significantly faster if there's even one traffic light on the route, you anger faggots by doing it
>>
>>17565345
