Are 70's-80's CB750s good bikes? Really like the looks of them and I think I might buy one if I ever sell my DRZ.
>>
>>17439794
They are good as far as old bikes go, lots of them still around so parts are not too awful to find. Get one now and never sell it; the price is skyrocking on them.

Anybody do the whoolies? I had some lady in a car freeeaaaak out at me at the lights because I did a whoolie in front of her. Threatened to phone cops, pulled the "MY KIDS ARE IN MY CAR, YOU ARE ENDANGERING THE CHILLRUN," whole 9 yards - and it was on a nearly empty 6 lane road in an industrial area on a weekend and I was a good distance in front of her. Why don't people like other people having fun?

Im a newb but from what I gathered, check all liquid levels like brake, gear, chain etc.

Replenish engine oil. and change all filters (air and engine)

check brake pads.

If you wanna be extra then check / replace the seals and spark plug AND wheel bearings (by spinning the wheel and feeling for resistance)

check the maintenance schedule. You should have already changed the oil a couple times by now and should probably check the air filter and valve clearances within the next 10k miles.

>>17439878
then change the fucking fork seals you retard. That's not on a time based schedule. replace those as needed.

>>17439875
Feeling for resistance when spinning the wheels doesn't give you that good of an idea about the wheel bearings. You need to try to wobble the wheel, feeling for play. You should get the wheel off the ground for a good check but some are bad enough to feel it wobbling on the axle even with the bike on its wheels.

It's not so intuitive, you'd either discover by accident or discover it if you spend long hard minutes pondering the physics of motorcycle steering.

Besides it doesn't work well at high speeds. Just lean before your turn and you wont need to counter steer.

am I wrong in saying this?

I'm going to respond to your bait for everyone else's sake:

You can't turn a bike without counter-steering lol. That's just how it works. It works the same at all speeds, but you need to apply more bar pressure. You lean the bike by counter-steering

Counter steering exists, but you dont need to turn your wheel the opposite direction of your corner to get the lean.

You start leaning into the corner at the same time you turn into the corner. Counter steering effect becomes negligable.

Fuck you dude, nobody counter steers on bicycles so why should they on motorbikes.

The whole point of CS is using the momentum of a turn to but your body into the correct lean.

Why cant you put your body into the correct lean by shifting your weight?

The point is that you can do this yourself without having to rely on counter steering.

>>17440471
Let me break this down for you so it's real easy.

CS is an effect which occurs when you turn your handle bars. While the bike moves in the direction of the turn, your body lags behind -
causing the bike to lean out of the turn even though its wheels are pointing with the turn.

Try the same turn again, this time lean your body in the turn so that when you turn your wheels your body does not lag behind and your bike isn't forced to lean out of the turn, actually the opposite, it leans into the turn.

Just because you don't realize what you're doing doesn't mean it isn't happening. Two-wheeled vehicles work on counter steer to tip the vehicle into a turn.

>>
>>17440483
when you turn a bike there is a torque acting on it to make it want to flop to the outside of the turn. you need something to create a lean to the inside of the turn to negate that. That is what countersteering does.
>>
>>17440532
My whole point is perfectly in line with physics, listen..

>when you lean your body into the turn, your weight shifting is causing counter steering to happen
Meaning that when you lean your body, the wheel will have a tendency to turn away from your body.

Meaning that when you lean your body, the wheel will have a tendency to turn away from your body.
So by countersteering with a lean, you're not counter steering with the bars.
>>
Guys I invented a sweet new way to ride motorcycles. You don't countersteer anymore, but instead push away the bars closest to the turn. You don't have to worry about all that pesky physics stuff. I'm on the phone right now with Yamaha explaining that they'd be winning a lot more races if they'd just stop counter-steering.

I did my M2 a few months ago on a "detuned" XG500 (I was at the dealership that put 'em together, I asked around to find out which were full power and which were limited), and some of my classmates were right and properly terrifying with those things, and that has about 20% LESS power even before the learner nerf. And yet we still had some legit highsides from some of the more special classmates.

>there are people who think you NEED counter steering to turn

Just leaning your body alters the COG of the bike and makes it track in that direction. Take your hands off the bars and shift your ass over. It actually works. When you roll a balanced wheel, it goes straight until disturbed. When you roll a wheel with a weight on one side of it, it turns towards that side.

It's pretty basic shit but counter steering is how you initiate sharper turns and greater leans that you can not achieve without being spiderman and standing on the inside of the bike. Gyro effect keeps you upright for this.

I don't think the Brazilian government takes too kindly to imports, stuff usually arrives here costing 2,5 times what it did out there in the civilized world.

My best bet will probably be one of these:

http://moto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-869980366-oportunidade-honda-cb400-1984-em-excelente-estado-_JM

http://moto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-878638003-honda-cbr-500-cb-500-1998-_JM

Problem is I'm a sucker for BMW and am dead set on a shaft-driven boxer.

Stuff like:

http://moto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-878565514-bmw-r1100-s-ano-99-leia-a-descrico-do-anuncio-_JM

http://moto.mercadolivre.com.br/MLB-869836425-bmw-r1100r-r-1100-r-r-1100r-em-raro-estado-troco-moto-_JM

So, factoring in my country's economy ATM I am giving it a wide berth.

Probably for the best.

TFW no bike, though.

They're meant to look like VFRs

Ducati doesn't own SSAs. They exist for easier wheel changes and chain adjustment, and the VFR was originally a premium civilian sports bike (before the japs went hardcore repli-racer and split their tamer machines into sports tourers) that was adopted by racing, rather than the other way around. In fact, I believe honda and BMW both had production bikes with SSAs well before ducati realized it looked cool

And ducati doesn't own red paint either.

why the fuck don't they make universal sidecars

i don't want to have to buy an unstable carbureted motorized bicycle with forks thinner than my dick and a frame made out of spaghetti just to put on a sidecar

If you're doing them that often you need to take better care of your chain..

that would require universal bike frames, meaning every bike would literally be the same. just buy a Ural and enjoy 2wd

But those problems come often.
If you are sexually aroused by wrenching then the Ural might just be your fetish

So I'm currently trying to sell my bike dual sport for either a nice standard or a super sport since I don't ride long distance, I've been offered to swap for an FZ6S from 2009 however looking up its powerband it seems really wonky?

Compared to something like an F4i it doesn't seem to hold its ground much, anyone owned a Fazer before and what did you think of it

That's a bit generous. I think the FZ6 engine is a weaker version of an R6 engine but otherwise it's a totally different bike.

Not sure exactly what the FZ6S is.

>>17441969

>I think the FZ6 engine is a weaker version of an R6 engine but otherwise it's a totally different bike.

I am not talking in the literal sense. I'm talking in the practical.

Obviously the first generation R6 has a more advanced chassis and suspension in addition to it's non detuned motor.

But practically a street rider isn't going to notice much of a difference beyond the lower power and more comfortable ergos between the two bikes.

Any 600cc i4 riders here? When below 10k RPM my F4i seems to accelerate slightly better at just under full throttle than when I have it completely pinned. It's not like it accelerates much either way until I get way up into the revs though. Is it normal for them to be that gutless down low?
>>
>>17439635
Is there an equivalent in the KLR line?
>>
>>17442010
>not be afraid of trying to pass at 70mph+
Then why buy a small single cylinder? Get a 650 at least. If you're going to spend the money on an upgrade you might as well get something that's actually better.

>>17442011
>But practically a street rider isn't going to notice much of a difference
I don't know about that. I'm a pretty mild street rider and I can tell for sure when a bike has better brakes and suspension. I'm not saying you need a supersport on the street, but low quality parts really show.

Fz6 is good for riding far.
>>
>>17442012
Yes

>When below 10k RPM my F4i seems to accelerate slightly better at just under full throttle than when I have it completely pinned.
intake tract is optimized for power at higher rpm. That means it flows too much at lower rpm and this causes reduced intake charge velocities which reduced cylinder filling.

With throttle bodies partially opened you are adding a restriction just before the cylinder head which is likely increasing intake charge velocities into the cylinder and creating slightly more power.

On electronic throttle bikes the throttle body opening is restricted to partially open when maximum throttle input is given at lower rpms to maximize this effect.

>It's not like it accelerates much either way until I get way up into the revs though. Is it normal for them to be that gutless down low?
600cc sportbikes are typically tuned for peak power almost at the expense of all else. Weak midrange and low rpm power is just par for the course.

In that regard the F4i isn't really that bad.

>>17442034
>I'm a pretty mild street rider and I can tell for sure when a bike has better brakes and suspension.
FZ6 brakes and suspension aren't that bad at all. Really only show their limits when riding hard. The FZ6's aren't low quality or cheap bikes. They cost about the same as the same year R6's at the time.

If he's going to get one though, get an fz from after 2007. Those have upgraded fuel mapping and brakes. My 05's brakes aren't bad, but they could be more aggressive.

I had an F4i and i have an R6 with a fully unlocked electronic throttle. It's just the way it is.

Unlocking the R6 midrange throttle restrictions definitely had an increase of power throughout, but there is a point where more throttle does not equate to more power just like on the F4i.
>>
>>17442033
That isn't a klr
>>
>>17442071
really with the cost of R6's I don't recomend getting a used FZ6 at all.

You can get the good years of R6 (2008+) for about the same and have a better motor, better suspension, better looks, and making the ergos whatever you want them to be is trivial.
>>
>>17442094
It still doesn't seem to accelerate as fast as I see in videos, even in the high RPMs. Once I get up into the high gears past 100mph it just barely creeps up, especially after 120.

Still feels fast in first and second gear tho.
>>
>>17442129
>Once I get up into the high gears past 100mph it just barely creeps up, especially after 120.

That might indicate something wrong then. How many miles?

Have the valves been checked? have you done a compression test?

Tight valves can effectively reduce compression and you could be burning your exhaust valves. Reducing power and leading to costly repairs.

Low compression from bad rings/scored cylinders can also cause drops in power but F4i's are known for being durable and long lasting if they are taken care of.

My bet would be your valves are severely out of spec robbing you of power.

Also make sure to replace your hydraulic cam chain tensioner with a manual one. The stock CCT goes bad and causes cams to go out of phase and cam chain to slap which can rob power too.
>>
>>17442129
>>17442150

Also, don't know how long you've had the bike or know its history but make sure your chain is in good condition and is of decent quality. A cheap o ring chain or one that's kinked/rusted/dry can severely rob power.

Also, make sure the oil is fresh and the air filter is clean. Especially if you've just bought it.

They're two different styles of bikes. I've ridden my buddies R6 and it's an incredible machine, but the seat sucks, the bars are two low and the rearsets are cramped.

It's a monster in the turns, but changing it to be a tourer defeats the purpose. The other downside is it's a higher stressed engine that gets worse economy while requiring more expensive fuel. It makes a difference on longer tricks

33k miles. I've checked the valves already. The exhaust valves were all fine but all the intakes were too tight. They're in spec now anyway.

I haven't done a compression test. It does have a manual cam chain tensioner but I don't know if the tension is set properly. After adjusting the valves I just reset it where the previous owner had it.

>f4i known to be long lasting if taken care of
Yeah but my bike looks like it has lived a life of neglect before I got it.

Most people say their F4i will barely power wheelie in first and mine does even when laying flat on the tank, so I guess it is as powerful as it should be. I might just be expecting too much from a 600.

>>17442165
I don't know its history but it doesn't look like it has been maintained that well.

I've got fresh oil, chain, and sprockets on it (though the chain was of the cheap o-ring variety). The air filter looked clean.
I've been riding it since march.
