This. The only cars I would get excited for are the 360 GT and 575 GTC.
The 360 GT could be used for multiclass against the MC12, like in real life and the 575 GTC would be a proper competitor to the MC12

The problems are that both of these cars are part of the ones you have to vote for, so at best only one gets chosen and that the MC12 in game is the 2006 model so it may not even be on a similiar pace to the 2003 575

a few things regarding BYOSB S2:

1. Sign up for the event and join the club if you haven't already https://www.gran-turismo.com/ie/gt6/user/#!/clubid/1074107/

2. No more boost, at least for the main races. Fun races can have boost. Also no penalties so no one is ghosting. I'd rather drive in my own zip code than have what happened last week happen again.

3. Speaking of fun races, they'll now be held an hour before the main races at 20:00 UTC / 4PM EDT

4. The fun race for bathurst is going to be a race between Pontiac GTO 5.7 Coupe '04s and Holden Commodore SS '04s

5. hit me up with a good idea for a fun race for Road America

6. pls join my series

yea because Bathurst has plenty of track cuts avaliable. It's just retarded to remove boost. Before everyone was racing on equal terms.

If us poorfags now have buy a more expensive cars it removes the entire point of "bring your own shitbox"

That would be a great shout, if it wasn't for the tracks.
>Bathurst
>can probably bounce off T2 to carry speed up to T3, don't think wallriding will work going up
>straightline chicane after the first dip
>abuse walls going down, save for the last corner to get a good exit
>can probably straightline the last chicane if there isn't too much sand

>RA
>track path importer, no cuts possible

>Daytona
>don't really see any good cuts, but FWD shitboxes will have a lot of power and can probably take AWD and RWD cars down the oval bit. that is, if they're not left in the dust after the infield section because high power FWD just means spinning front wheels

>El Capitan
>track path importer, no cuts possible

>Nurburgring
>can cut chicanes but honestly not worth it

I'll do Bathurst in my FWD shitbox cutting every single bloody corner, then if TC isn't available I'll just pretend I bought a car that happens to be competitive at 450pp.
>>
Can't you guys be happy fighting for whatever position you happen to be in, against the cars around you, or do you have to be hyper competitive and only want to play If you can win every race?

It's easy to say that when your car is actually fast. It won't change anything for you. You'll still be chilling in the lead.
>>
>>17408207
but without boost there won't be any fighting because people are racing at different speeds.

screw it, i need a Stand. Do i need to choose my stand carefully and check for everything, or does every stand that's designed for g27 has a place for h-shifter? Also, do the shifter and wheel holds up tightly and don't fly around in, let's say, wheel stand pro which has just a thin piece of metal for a shifter holder?

basically, is there anything important i have to know before buying a stand?
>>
>>17410459
Do NOT consider wheel stand pro unless you are a manlet and/or have a low chair(which you dont. GT omega makes sturdier and comfier stands, and they still fold. They might be more expensive but they are worth the extra money.

https://www.gtomegaracing.com/wheel-stands/gt-omega-racing-wheel-stands/gt-omega-steering-wheel-stand

The nice thing about this one is that if you ever want to make it a full size, you can just buy the extension later.
>>
>>17410459
Get a bit of metal or wood and make a pedal stand. Just something that brings the pedals higher a bit and has a bit sticking out so it leans against a wall or something.
>>

shit, that could actually work. thanks, i'll try this one since gt omega stand is expensive and i would need to buy it from different country.

I'm planning on getting into iracing as a way to supplement my real life racing. Can I get some recommendations for steering wheel/ pedal combos, and seats/cockpits?

The Thrustmaster T300 seems to have good reviews (I see that there is also a version with a clutch pedal, don't know if that is worth it or not, I assume I'd have to buy a compatible shifter as well). The Logitech G29 seems pretty comparable as well.

t300 is alright, also "wheels" are basically base+peripherals, so don't mind having a clutch at first or not. You'll be able to buy proper pedals later, when you feel like it.

g29 is basically g27, t300 should have way better FFB

I am running Global MX5 Cup next year, but I am currently racing 944Spec in NASA.

>>17414599
Right. So in your opinion, if I wanted to buy the Thrustmaster T300, would it be better to just get the two pedal version and potentially buy three pedals and a shifter later? Do many people actually use an H-pattern shifter while doing sims?
>>
>>17414641
>I am running Global MX5 Cup next year, but I am currently racing 944Spec in NASA.

damn dude that's pretty cool. i wish i had the money to race irl.
>>
>>17414641
i casually enjoy iracing miata cup and use my g27 h-shifter. It feels more natural this way. That being said, you can just get your t300 and then decide if you feel like spending more on next components. That's the beauty of thrustmasters, unlike lolitech everything can be easily upgraded later.

If you can afford t300 and want to go as serious as buying cockpit and dedicated chair, t300 sounds infinitely better. G27(g29) is a good bundle (h-shifter, pretty nice pedals if you don't want to go full autism cell brake and other smart shit), but t300 is way better base. And, of course, if you can get proper pedals, it's surely better to get them right away. I haven't experienced it, but i heard that bundled t300 two-pedal pedalboard is incredibly shitty.

tl;dr h-shifter is imo cool and useful but that's controversial opinion, and get better pedals in bundle if you can

shit, i always thought that nasa is only doing space races
>>
>>17414659
Yeah, I am really lucky to have family funding for a season. I am hoping that during that time I am able to get enough sponsor funding to continue on with it. The series is super competitive as it is a path on to Indycar, but the upside is that if you show well in it, it's definitely a sign that you have what it takes to make it in higher levels.

>>17414679
Thanks for the input- the T300 definitely seems like the way to go. The bundle with the three pedal setup is only about $80 more than the two pedal, so I'll probably just go ahead and get that one.

The Openwheeler cockpit (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010W3O8R0?psc=1) on Amazon has some good reviews. A friend of mine made his own setup from plans on Ricmotech.com and it works very well, however I do not have the tools or space to do any woodwork unfortunately, so buying a premade setup is likely the route I will need to take.

Ahahahaha

Haha.

Ha.

Here is the reality. The physics engine/tire model is largely unfinished. Cold tires are faster than warm tires. This alone should be enough of a deterrent for anyone trying to use a piece of software as a training tool.

Brave the fucked physics, and you're met with waves upon waves of manchildren who screech at you over voice chat for merely racing them hard.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Gl67zhUptM

The cost is ridiculous. Nobody should be paying $993 CDN for a tweaked version of a stock car game from fifteen years ago.

Getting the H-pattern shifter (if using a clutch would be too awkward with flappy paddles for you like it is for me), or at least a clutch pedal, would probably be your best bet if you want to be ultra competitive in the iRacing MX-5 since there's a few tenths to be made per lap if you drive with auto clutch and auto blip turned off. Definitely avoid the pic related pedals though, I've heard they're nothing but awful which is a shame since the T300 wheel itself is nice.

I know you're trolling, (although you are certainly correct about it not being completely realistic, of course it's not) but many professional drivers use iracing. As I said, it's a supplementary tool, not an end all to actually getting out on track and driving. It's also a useful way to learn new tracks in order to have more time once you are there to get driving at the limit.

For Penticton I used Dells in NR2003. Was on race pace in testing despite shitty tires and a track loaded with glass/wood shards.

Prince George I turned laps at Langley by Smiffsden. Went quicker than Dustin's dad in the same car.

iRacing's leg up is ease of use. If you're computer illiterate and can't into downloading mods then yeah I could see why people would flock to it because it's just install and play.

But if you're under 35 and have grown up with PC's, there's no reason you shouldn't be shopping for a more accurate sim and learn how to install mods for it.

it's same with gearbox damage

it seems like codies haven't got enough balls to actually randomly generate real car problems. dunno if they were right or not, but i'd love to see actual damage that happens because of driver's mistakes. like engine blowing up coolant (and dying after reving it high for a long time) when cooling system/fan is damaged, or gearbox breaking down on mistimed shifts with h-shifter

>wear and damage fucks shit up (gears dropping out, tires getting shredded, suspension breaking, brakes fading, coolant boiling/leaking, electrical systems going out, etc)
>each damage has some consequence (performance hit, makes driving harder, risk of not finishing, etc)

iRacings tire model is laughably poor in the area of heat buildup in the tires. There is absolutely nothing accurate about how iRacing's tires regain traction. This means that any driving mistakes in iRacing end up creating some bad driving habbits in terms of recovering from slips and traction losses. It means that any excessive heat buildup in the tires mean you're no longer in a sim, you're in a mathematical model experiencing an asymptotic condition. You're literally driving the model to its limits where it no longer behaves as it was intended. This might not be that big of a deal to people with lots of skill in low powered cars, but once you up the ante with 500 hp, this becomes a serious issue that tends to remove realism from the experience.
>>
>>17417465
Can someone find the post where the head of tire development states that tires only lose heat when in contact with the track, then even iracers were like "uh, no, and here's some FLIR from formula one showing that that's completely backwards"

It explains a lot of why iracing doesn't work
>>
>>17417465
What tire are you talking about?
>>
>>17417507
holy shit
>>
>>17417540
All the tyres act like this, the heat build up along with the fact hotter tyres means less grip creates some really retarded situations. Races with long corners (Most ovals or stuff like Watkins) really showcases iRacing's issues with tyres. It's a really shitty sim with loads of issues when it comes to driving.

RBR damage is a joke
>gearbox breaks, every gear is idle
>engine broken too
>changing gear still jolts the car slightly forward (even with engine cut off)
>can get up to 130km/h by spamming gear changes fast enough

>engine temperature logic literally a 'increase temperature by 1 every half second until 139 degrees', regardless of engine revs/workload
>radiator logic is literally 'if radiator present, reset temperature to normal'
>after losing the radiator, you have to actually go faster to finish before the engine stops after the fixed time

>drive near some tape
>windshield gets completely shattered

>drive over some grass that doesn't reach car window height
>windshield gets completely shattered

>drive into a small shrub sideways (collision closer to rear than front)
>windshield gets completely shattered

Kaemmer was a genius back in the Windows 95/98 era of gaming and his contributions to sim racing should never be dismissed, but unfortunately his best work is behind him, and technology now is too complicated for what he's trying to do - create his own scratch-built tire model.

Here is what's fucked about iRacing.
>they knowingly push an unproven physics experiment on a mass of customers whether they like it or not.
>they charge an arm and a leg for something they know full well is of an unacceptable quality.
>their terms of service do not allow for any sort of public criticism or else you stand to lose your investment.

The proof is in the marketing.

Notice how drivers/shills always talk about the "racing experience" and the laser scanned tracks (durr it helped me prepare for a track I never visited), but never aout how the cars feel so real?

It's because they don't.

That's all you need to know.

Compared to the game you're employed to work on, Project Cars 2, which has Lewis Hamilton's retard brother and one of The Stig's.

I think I'll take the word of 40+ real top tier championship winning drivers compared to a cripple and a TV host.

tfw you can't sleep because someone said dirt 4 is better than r2k
>>
>>17418425
but it's dirt 4 that's harder, at least harder to drive fast
>DR has a lot of skid, you focus on something very natural which is getting as much grip as you can while flying around sideways in RWD
>D4 has tarmac-tier grip everywhere, you focus on arcade microsecond reactions with in same RWD car, except this time it's twitchy as fuck and never leaves the road

having less grip isn't more difficult, it's the opposite. it's easier when you have to be more careful, you can justify going a little bit slower
>>
>>17416103
It's a very fine sim for ovals and roads but we need more content of both tracks and road racing series instead of one off cars. Also the physics are a bit too hard to mod without every single piece of data about the car which even the official cars struggle to get so it's even harder for hobbyists.

you don't go fast, only as fast as grip allows. pretty much same thing as in any other car, except it's easier to do in racecars with aero and slicks. basically, slow down.

if you set semis in your shitbox, consider checking out temps/pressures during the ride. cold semis are pretty much like driving on ice.

Well, the 575 is in the voting. The problem though is that the MC12 in AC is based on the 2006 model, the 575 is an 2003 model. This will most likely mean the MC12 has much better tires and can't race with it after all
