Yee.

I've been debating on getting a '13 zx636 or an older year model zx6r.

I've heard that the 636 has noticeably more power, so I'm willing to shell out a little more unless someone here knows something negative about the 636cc models.
>>
>>17327736
Has it been that long already since they brought it back? Damnit man. Are they 2 separate models or is the zx-6 the 636? I don't remember. The 04-05 was one of the first bikes I ever wanted after I got my first bike.
>>
>>17327772
If your worried about power but still want something in that class I'd just go 675 honestly. That things been so well reviewed for so long now.

>>17327772
They're all 636cs
>>
>>17327772
All ZX-6'R's from 2003 on have a 636cc motor. It was the ZX-6RR's that had the 599cc class racing legal motors and the pre 2003 ZX-6R's.

The specifications seems to imply that after 2006, the zx6's were all 599cc, not just the RR variants.

Looks like they dropped 636 in 07 and brought it back in '13.
>>
>>17327814
Admitedly I havent owned one but I never see the journos bringing up reliability. I've just always seen it well reviewed and have an fz09 now so I'm pretty interested in the Daytona.
>>
>>17327896
I don't think in the US we ever had an RR just the 636 for 04 05 then plain old zx6r until 13. Well actually the 636 may have started in 02? I remember the older ones had a bare aluminum frame then I think in 04 went black when I started to like them. I know my zed was popular for having the same sporty tail as the 636.

>>
>>17328045
Because crossplane engines are a meme and the middleweight 600cc race replica segment is dying. There isn't enough money to justify heavy development into the segment.

That's why the R6 has been pretty much unchanged for 11 years and still at/near the top of the segment despite this stagnation. And even with this years update it's only a cosmetic and electronic rider aid refresh.

Partly because the bike has been so good, partly because there is not nearly as much money in 600cc faired middleweigt race replicas as there was 10-15 year ago.

People dont spend money on "starter" bikes like they did in 2002.

Hell, sportbikes as a segment is slowly being replaced/supplemented by nekked bike sales. It seems like now they only really develop/showoff the newest tech on the new 1000s just to bring that hype to nakeds a couple years later at near half the price.

I didn't say it is. I told you that there is no good bikes below 500cc that aren't supermotos or dual sports.

KTMs are just plain shit reliability wise though anyway, So buying a 390 is retarded for multiple reasons.
>>
>>17328087
>opinion

Im not him, but its kind if true though. If you're not euro there is no reason to start on a sub 500cc bike, they are simply not powerful enough not to be boring after a few months, and they suck on the freeway.

I still like the g310r, but the bike is literally designed for poo in the loo/euro cities, not american freeways. Just get yourself a nice 500 or 650 and enjoy a bike you can at least grow into for a season or two. Everyone I know who started on a tiny city bike regretted wasting the money on it.

The problem is, your tank is made of metal and thus heats up and cools down. What little air is left in the suction cup will expand when it gets hotter and lower the air pressure differential, reducing the force with which it is pressed against the tank. Your only option, if you absolutely want a tank mount, is to use a sticky pad. Otherwise try out different mounts; I'm pretty happy with the chest mount.

I have a chink copy of the SJ4000 which is all GoPro mounts. I think there's a kit with various different mounting options. Should be chinese copies around for like 30 € for the kit, look on amazon or ebay.

BMW has bullet proof engines normally, but the rest just dies.

Mine is at 143000km currently, and has some things to fix. Like a leaky drive shaft seal and an sweaty/leaky brake line (original 17 y/o one).
Have been fixing things like this continually, making the reliability low, but it doesn't stop you from riding normally. Have been riding with a leaking drive shaft seal for the last 4000km for example.
>>
>>17329294
You know those drive shafts are supposed to be serviced every 50k or something like that, right?

>but wouldn't that be a miserably slow daily?
sorry what, were you planning on filtering at 120 on a turbobusa or something
>>
>>17329996

No need to be cheeky. I currently filter on my VFR750F, but it would be nice to do so on something a little slimmer. I took off the side fairings and that helped a little bit, but I noticed people started driving more aggressively near me. So I put them back on. I'm think about switching to bar-end mirrors but I wanted to a different bike anyway.

I love my VFR for everything else except city riding. Low speed maneuvers aren't as easy compared to something with higher handlebars. It isn't super sport bad, but it isn't the best either.
>>
>>17329511
i've been looking at one of these.
im waiting till there are some proper reviews from UK motorcycle publications.
there's plenty of indian reviews but those people have no idea what they are talking about, and ridiculously low standards.
>>
>>17330004

If it helps, I was suggested to look into any of the v twin standards/sport tourers (SV1000, Superhawk, Monster with touring fairing) since they would emulate the seating position of my VFR, be lighter, and thinner without having to scale down to something that wouldn't do too well on the open road like a small displacement dual sport or scooter.
>>
>>17330018
They emulate the seating position but not that godly flat 90s seat. The VFR is an armchair compared to the forwards-sloping saddles of today. They're like bucket seats for motorcycles only never comfy unless you're in a cruiser like position.
>>
>>17330029

Trying to remove my carb for the first time, and the screws are impossible for me to remove. What the fuck and I supposed to do about this?
>>
>>17330054

I think it has mostly to do with the ergos. They're very upright compared to the modern examples, which often position the rider forward and higher for more receptive handling.
>>
>>17330120
Carb screws are notoriously shitty, I use vice grips too loosen them and then a philips head for the rest of it. They're actually JIS screws and not regular philips heads, but even using a JIS screwdriver they will still strip.

I really want an FZ-10. The sound is addicting, I just wish it didn't look so edgy.

I'd rather have the tricolor but the frame is stupid huge so it looks bad. Black only looks good because the frame is also black.

That is the point. Not sure if worth maybe too fast for street use though

It's not that the frame is huge but that the bodywork is tiny because they didn't give a fuck about racing it.

Is there any reason i shouldnt get a KX100 for trail riding.
Like serious trail riding. Stuff normally done on a full size dirt bike.
Im sick of my tall, heavy, expensive bike.
The kx100 has a great power to weight as well.

New rider here, wondering how much you guys budget for all your gear?
>>
>>17330508
200€ for each piece.
Look in that price range. Dont go down too much.
>>
>>17330508
depends on how ATGATT you plan to go and what weather you plan to ride in.
I bought gloves, helmet and a mesh jacket before the MSF. Since then, I have bought 2 more jackets, 2 pairs of boots and 3 more pairs of gloves.
at a minimum I would suggest sending good money on your helmet, like $300+ to make sure you get one that is comfortable and works well for you. For gloves, I would recommend something around the $120-150 mark, you can find some really good gloves in that range that have decent protection. Jacket is harder to place since different manufacturers vary wildly. Style plays such a big role, leather jackets are always going to be more expensive than a similar textile.
My advice is to find a brand of gear that fits you well and look for sales and close outs. You can also find good prices on discontinued gear on Ebay, shops just want to be rid of it. I just bought a Dainese Spedio D-Dry jacket for $150 under the original MSRP.
>>
>>17330537
What about pants and boots? I'm still a bit nervous on the bike and everything so I think I'm going to go all out for the moment but I'm assuming you're comfortable enough wearing casual clothing of some kind?
>>
>>17330556
Pants somewhat more optional than the other parts, I'd definitely get boots though.
>>
>>17330508
I usually buy items when I'm sale. So I have extra money for sweet road trips
>>
>>17330406
Not really, i have always wanted to do the same would be epic fun for single trails.
>>
>>17330521
I haven't even been able to find gear that expensive. Where the hell are you getting it?
>>
>>17330573
When on* sale
>>
>>17330556
I totally forgot about boots and pants, sorry.
For pants, I fell into the Dainese New Drake Air, which were on sale at the time. The problem with buying Dainese pants is that they are fucking stingy about including the other half of the connection zipper and it has been a bitch finding an affordable mesh to go with them. I suggest finding your jacket of choice first, then combing through the company's catalog for the corresponding pants, they are usually priced similarly or have the same name as the jacket. Again, ebay is a good choice, pants are usually the last thing people buy and seem to be found for fairly cheap.

Boots you have to try on in person until you understand how the manufacturer fits. I have a pair of Alpinestars SMX-5 boots that were about $160 and a pair of Gore-Tex TCX touring boots that were around $260. My feet are too wide for Sidi and Dainese so I have to be careful. Depending on style I recommend TCX or Alpinestars for decently priced boots, and if you are anywhere that has decent heat I recommend finding the vented version of the boots.

I don't like to wear casual shoes when I'm riding because it makes shifting weird with soft soles.
The order I recommend for purchasing:
Helmet
Gloves
Jacket
Boots
Pants
