which one would you get?
>blue https://killeen.craigslist.org/mcy/6134630425.html
>black https://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/mcy/6059407777.html

how realistic to offer $150-$200 extra to blue to ride it to my place? I could drive him back or let him arrange how to get back (adjusting price accordingly). Surely there's a figure that would get him interested, right? Saving $300+ is nothing to sniff at.

But idk, maybe a newer bike is better.

Best tires for a heavy bike (zr-7s, '02 model if that's of any importance to you) for cityslickin + the occasional 3000 mile road trip once or twice a year?

Thinking of Continentals, maybe Road Attack 2's or regular Sport Attacks. Opinions?
>>
should i get a zx6r or a dr650

i know they're totally different bikes but i can't decide
>>
>>17246941
Pirelli race tires? On a GS500? Just get any aggressive street tire with sizes that fit the bike. You're too slow to need anything else.
>>
>>17246992
that's not exactly heavy

if you change them yourself get something cheap and soft like kenda

Only thing I'd be cautious of is "no joyrides", you need to convince him that you need to have a test ride around the block before buying.
Also, I don't know about US laws regarding buying new vehicles and insurance, but do you not have a rider's policy so you can ride the bike back yourself without worrying about being pulled over?

i'm just a quite new rider; don't want to tackle that long a ride yet

tbqh worried about dropping spaghetti on test rides, even though i know i need to do them, i'm afraid i'll do something super dumb in the turning it on / getting it in gear / getting it rolling process. I'm comfy on two wheels, iI've cycled all my life, but I only have an MSF from a couple months ago as far as practical experience involving an engine.
>>
>>17246994
Depends how much you like goin fast over being able to do dumb shit
>>
>>17247031
It's an hour on the highway. If I could do it on a barely functioning cx500, you'll be fine.

Highway is the easiest part of riding tbhwy
>>
>>17247031
I see. I would think an hour ride would be ok, since you can just make some stops along the way to relax. Once you're at speed it's ezpz, it's slow areas that you have to worry about more. Do you have any motorcycling friends or family that could ride it back for you? You should always take someone with you to look at a vehicle since they might spot something that you don't.

If you can't test ride it, at least ask if you can turn it over and sit on it to get a feel for the bike. Do a walkaround to spot any issues and ask him questions about anything you spot. Don't be afraid of offending him, you're there to buy a bike and you need to know about any issues, so if he gets upset about you asking questions you should just walk away.
>>
>>17247032
i like both the dr650 would be a lot more practical but i already have a practical 500

Colorado springs. I've posted a couple times, but only lately started riding more.
I know don't lane split, which pisses me off. But for things like parking next to a building, like not a parking spot. I did it all the time where I lived, but idk how people feel about it here.

>>
>>17247044
Yeah, I was thinking I could handle an hour's ride or so. Hell, I could even stay off highways at that distance if i wanted to, without any trouble

None of my family ride, and I'm not sure I'd count the people I know that do ride as friends (yet).

>1. Middle-aged dude and his wife across the street both ride Harleys, he and I wave and say hi when we pull into the driveway at the same time and know each other's first names but that's about it

>2. Young research physicist at work rides a V-Strom 1000 and gave me some pointers in my bike / gear search and actually offered to come along with me if I needed someone to look a bike over, but we only see each other like every couple of weeks

>3. Older guy at [spoiler]church/spoiler] who rides a Goldwing, we say hi in passing and have chatted a couple times but that's it

I've thought about talking to (1) and setting up a time to do a practice inspection on one of his bikes. And the black SV is about 30 min or less from where I work so maybe I could set up a time with (2) to go look at it after work.

The social anxiety involved in pursuing either of these options is real..

>Why are you getting SC2s?

Because the front tire is an sc2. I thought you should match them.
>>
>>17247124
That doesn't matter that much. Just get whatever rear you want and then match later when you get a few front.

The Pirelli race tires wouldn't last very long anyway and they're expensive.

Bruh it's not some crazy shit to go to and practice cornering at 20 mph in an empty parking lot
It makes you more confident and helps you learn the limits of your tires, if nothing else
Plus it's a lot of fun, even if you aren't there just to scrub tendies

Also I have never dragged knee, I've hit my pegs a few times but my body positioning isn't good enough yet to get a knee down. Also I ride very conservatively on public roads, the only thing I really do is occasionally go 15-20 over the speed limit on back roads when no one's around

Ouch, yeah when changing oil or coolant you need a brand new crush washer.

I forgot to install mine one time, so I put a dixie cup under the bike when I undid the bolt. But the oil shot out and knocked over the cup and spilled it all over the floor in my garage. I was able to put the cup back up and put on the washer and bolt right before the cup overflowed, then poured the oil back in along with the spare oil I had.

Thoughts on this XR? Looks beat to shit but otherwise pretty OK for the price. Stuff around here is usually inflated as can be.

Yeah it's a damn shame. Decent mods, low miles for an xr, etc. and is like 70 miles away.

Shame it's already so late in the day and traffic is shite. If it's still up tomorrow I'll give him a ring

I wish mine was stolen... Trying to sell it and keep getting crazy low ballers on Craigslist. I have theft insurance and they would value it at like $5.5k probably.

Oh well, guess I will keep riding it and hope some soccer mom totals it.

so /dbt/

talk me out of this biek,
considering changing my bike (ktm 690smr ' 08) to something more distance-oriented.
The 990 has 100000km on the odo, well maintained and sold by a shop.
Also, there is one 950 from the '03 with 64000km, well maintained but a bit more expensive.
Was still considering a Busa though, used to have a travel-sport and Hayabusas are sold everywhere used now (finland, it's like one of the most sold bikes). Now I'm just wanting to do miles two-up but where I live there are some gravel roads and I'd like the ability to ride gravel roads as well.

you can see the pillion seat in the bottom of the frame! pointing it any lower would just be more seat!
>>
>>17248784
If it was the rear i would have but its the front tyre, plus my insurance wouldn't be valid if i had an off and they checked the tyres.
>>
>>17248756
>100000km on the odo
Thats a bit too much for a bike thats known to have reliability problems.
Also likes to drink fuel in an unhealthy manner.

That been said, its the best adventure bike and I would love one myself.

Tore the CB750SC down this weekend for a full carb cleaning. More on that shortly.

There are some lines that I'm not 100% sure where they go. Anyone here that could help? There's a vacuum nipple on the engine side of the #2 carb that I'm not sure what to connect to.

There's another small nipple on a connector between the #2 and #3 carbs, that I'm not sure what to connect to.

Finally, the bikes auto fuel shutoff was disconnected when I got the bike. I'm assuming one of those lines it for it, but I still don't know what to do with the other one. I can't seem to find a full vacuum diagram for the bike, so I'm not sure if maybe there's something else I'm missing here.

Had a couple of grimy / clogged jets, and the inside of all the carbs had junk. Less gummed fuel than I expected, more debris like someone got some shit in the tank or something. Running an inline filter now.

Got it back together hoping for magic, and the carbs are so fucked out of sync that I can't get it to run quite right anyway. Tried tuning by ear, made some progress, but ultimately failed. Just waiting on the synch tool I ordered to arrive now.

I wouldn't want to buy a KTM with that much use.

Also literally any bike can do gravel roads.

This is my service manual. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My service manual is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.
Without me, my service manual is useless. Without my service manual, I am useless. I must fire my service manual true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...
My service manual and I know that what counts in war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. We will hit...
My service manual is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will keep my service manual clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready. We will become part of each other. We will...
Before God, I swear this creed. My service manual and I are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. We are the saviors of my life.
So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace!
