So is this color coding thing (yellow Suzuki, green Kawasaki, blue Yamaha, orange KTM, red Honda) limited to dirt bikes or traditional for the manufacturers and common in more types of bikes and bike racing?
>>
>>17161525
They branch out more on road bikes, but it's still usually some hint of their colour schemes. Some companies have multiple colours over the years and will play back on them with special edition models.

MotoGP they all have their own colour.

New guy here

i really dont want anything to do with cars but
my driving instructor tells me i should definitely do the car license before the motorcycle to get used to traffic and not have to die in my first accident..

I learned to ride before I learned to properly drive a car. Just learn the rules of the road, and ride with somebody who knows what they're doing for an easier time.
>>
>>17162081
As an addendum, some Asian countries make you ride scooters/bikes before you can even get a car license. Teaches better awareness of what's going around you, and you'll notice 2 wheeled vehicles more.
>>
>>17162081
where I live motorcycle lessons are x2 the cost of car lessons.
so even tho I got my car license for work reasons, it would make sense to get it first anyway.

so what is written in the papers? power at the wheels?

I am confused af right now.
The CBR 600 F (F4i in the US) bikes being sold here are listed with 81 kW. The German wikipedia page doesn't give any information about specs and on the murican wikipedia page it is listed with 81 kW at the crankshaft. Assuming it is the same with the European model, wouldn't I be able to ride it with A2 if the relevant power would be at the wheels since it is listed with 67.2 kW?

Larger motorcycles are exempt from "I NEED A NEW BIKE MAN" syndrome unless you completely fuck up and buy the wrong kind of bike, like a pigfat sport tourer when you really wanted a sportbike with bar risers, or a standard when you really wanted a cruiser. There's value in an extended test ride.

They are not, however, exempt from "I NEED TWO BIKES MAN" syndrome.
>>
>>17162220
And what's so bad about buying a different bike? If a 500cc is worth 2000€ right now and a 600cc is worth 2500€ right now and they both depreciate by 500€ in two years, it won't make a difference whether you buy the 2000€ 500cc now and sell it for 1500€ in two years to buy a then-2000€ 600cc, or whether you buy the 2500€ 600cc right away. You'll be 2500€ out of pocket in both cases.

That's why you buy a 750+cc and never sell it, ever. If you're so fucking scared of looping a power wheelie or sneezing and entering a corner at 100mph just block the throttle tube and enjoy your bike minus 50hp until you're no longer scared of motorcycles.

Just don't buy a bike you hate and have no lasting use for. That is a waste of time. That is a waste of money. That is a waste of a bike. It will sit in your garage as long as the ad to sell it stays up, and that will be a while because there's always a nicer one selling for the same price.

I don't necerssarily want to start on a 600cc. I heard you guys yesterday and will definately buy another shit bike first for learning purposes, but I probably won't ride it for 2 yrs. That's why I am looking for bikes I can get with A2 that interest me.
All the weaker bikes, like 500cc bikes I have seen seem to be newer beginner bikes targeted at people like me and they go for 5k yuros minimum (used). That is just too much for me and the bikes I have seen have the handle bars in the sky kek, looks retarded af (I know it's comfy, but still).
One sexy bike with 400cc is the ZXR400, would have no problem with less power, but I don't want a bike that old, early 2000s design is what I want.

Meh, guys here "restrict" 600 and even 1000 sports somehow and ride them on the A2. Police don't give two shits about it. They will flip out however, if you removed the db-killer out of your exhaust.

It only gets complicated when you get into a crash. Then, in some cases, the insurance companies deem you as if you were riding without a license. IN SOME CASES.

Curry is actually more of a yellow-ish, brown-ish, ochre colour. It's absolutely incomparable to KTM orange. If you wanna make a reference to KTM orange, tell people it's orange like a warning vest so everyone in the area is made aware of its hazard of breaking apart.

Just bought a mint 05 fz6 but I'm not the biggest fan of the half fairing look. Pic is the same as mine. I kind of want to make it a naked/street fighter bike, but it feels like a shame to strip off the fairings, bring in such good condition. Any thoughts?

hey guys,

sorry for the newbie question, but i'm new to the whole biker scene, and i want to get my license, and start riding.

What is a good starter bike?
currently without any riding experience, i like naked bikes, and considering that i mainly plan to drive on the roads, i think they would fit me well. I was considering a honda CB500, but am open to other ideas.

How can you save some money on the gear?
If i add up the whole cost of the whole gear, it would cost pretty much a little fortune. Are there some parts of the gear that could be purchased without any setbacks(security-wise)?

Are there any other suggestions that i should pay attention to before getting into this whole thing ?

Father has one of these sitting in his garage. Friend of the family left it to him, it had been in a shed for years, father had it professionally restored a few years ago but doesn't ride it much because he prefers his other bike. Brought up letting me have it the other day but my only experience with 2 wheeled vehicles is taking dirtbikes out on some mild trails with my cousin when I was younger.

Don't NEED it for transportation as I have other vehicles but would it be a terrible idea for me to learn to ride on this?

300 would be the upper end of what I'd consider, its seems hard to find smaller stuff with an upright stance without going dual-sport. Seeing as how there isn't a public dirt road or motor trail without 50 miles, that doesn't seem like a great option.

>guy checks battery and all fuses with a meter, all good
Start at the battery and work your way out. When you say he checked the fuses, do you know if he checked for current on both sides of the fuses, or did he check resistance across the fuses to detect opens? I would start at the battery with a meter grounded to the frame. Work your way down the wires checking to make sure you have current at each junction. With the 'everything died' description, a major fusible link is the most likely culprit. That said, fusible links don't just die. So if you find a burned up link, you've probably got a major short somewhere. The starter circuit would be the logical place to start since it happened when you fired the starter.

Thanks anons. From what i read today on the googles, a common problem could be earth wires. Anyhow, tomorrow I'll buy a meter and try to follow your suggestions.

The terminal clamps, I assume those are the parts when battery connects to the wires, he cleaned up with a file to ensure that wasn't the problem. The battery had 12 volts i think.

The guy also thought the problem might be around the ignition, based on the fact that moving cables around there sometimes resulted in the rev clock needle jumping up. I dunno if that is the correct conclusion.
As to the alternator, i don't even know what that is. I've got a lot of learning ahead.

Honestly wouldn't expect it to hurt anything on the chain, though it won't reduce wear on that chain as well as proper lube. Moly is meant to provide extreme pressure resistance, but affects thermal transmission, which means jack shit on a chain.

I'm looking to get a dual sport for my first bike and I'm torn between the suzuki drz400s and the yamaha wr250r. Maintainability wise, how difficult is working on each bike?

Are there any tasks that are a pain in the ass to do on one bike but not the other?

guys, how do you clean your bike without a pressure washer?

I soak my bike with a hose, then soap it up, then rinse it off...
bike looks clean,

but obviously if you inspect it closely, its still dirty in all the hard to get places.

do you guys spend an hour with a washcloth and a bucket of water to wash those spots twice a month, or do you just use a pressure washer and hope you won't damage your electricals.

stupid question, but I never washed my first bike. I paid someone to do it every time cuz it was cheaper than buying a bucket and soap.

I have a 300. It's good for ripping enduro trails that are about three feet wide between trees. If you buy one for the road, that's just gay.

Put on new grips today, used the superglue that was supplied with them.

How long to dry? I checked after 2 hours, and they broke free with little effort. Had to clean up all the old stuff which was a time consuming bitch. Should be good overnight or should I use something else?

Neither should be difficult but the DRZ's carb can be nice if you value user-serviceability, plus being able to swap jets and adjust fuel/air mixture to your needs easily.
Going air cooled like another anon said is one less thing to worry about. There's the XR650L if you're going for newer model years.

I am conflicted.

I have been riding a Suzuki 250cc street bike for 2 years and feel very comfortable on it. A good family friend wants to sell his 2003 HD sportster 1200 and its a great price, he takes good care of it and hardly ever rides(Harley owners right). Any ways its not really my style but I test rode it anyway. I was pleasantly surprised by it. The cruiser seating position was weird at first but I got use to it. It also seemed to have a good amount of get up and go for a cruiser that i was not expecting. The only thing that I didn't like was the hand/foot vibration also its not very nimble. Also I am not sure if i want to be in the Harley cult. Its not really my style. I like V-stroms and upright standard bikes. But my dad said he would help out with the purchase and I could get it for next to nothing. What should I do?
