Have to correct myself though: we didn't ride the WSBK layout, we used the DTM one.

I never seen a piece of shit like that on the road in the past 3 years so I wouldn't know.

In Italy you mostly see the following:

>lots of big scooters in town center
>lots of dads with gs/multistradas
>good amount of dirtbike madmen going up the hills
>tons of normal naked bikes
>tons of togey madmen with top tier supersports (and most of them actually ride extremely fast)

You can start on any bike if you're cautious.

And that's exactly the problem. You can't take more powerful bikes near their limit as a beginner without killing yourself, but taking bikes near their limit is part of the learning process, so starting on a weaker bike will actually make you a better rider.

It's really rather curious how bike maintenance and bike detailing are an absolute joy because everything is in reach and compact and every single bit actually has a purpose that's clearly visible; but maintenance and detailing on cars on the other hand is an absolute fucking pain in the ass because half the shit is in hard to reach places, you have no clue what half the parts do anyway and all the surfaces are huge fucking slabs that take forever to clean. I actually reviewed it for my Yootoob channel but I won't push it here as I don't wanna be that guy. I agree it'd be perfect for a new rider, loads of low down torque but little in the way or horsepower. Easy overtaking but no real speed, and low seat makes it feel really light too. My only real complaint was the ugly ass tail light.

I wish the remodel existed when I started riding 2 years ago since I was looking at the rebel 250 as a starter bike.

But the 250 was too weak and the 1980s look in 2015 didn't seem right.
>>
>>17157787
Are UK bike plates generally this huge? What's the size?
>>
>>17157788

Just buy generic car polish and get a microfibre cloth. Apply a little polish to the cloth, rub it into the paint, then buff it away with a dry portion of the cloth.
>>
>>17157787
Wow, that taillight is pretty horrible. Somehow it even looks worse than my FZ-07s stock taillight. The exhaust can is fucking massive, but it looks good so I guess I don't care.

It doesn't have a cruiser position does it? I thought they were standard position.
>>
>>17157797

Unfortunately this brings my total planned changes for my motorcycle to

Panniers
Decent windscreen (Already burned by the shitty Puig one, don't buy it)
Slightly more aggressive handlebars
Exhaust
Prettier grips/bar ends.

I could have bought a GXSR with the money I'm going to end up spending on this SV.

As standard yeah but you can get smaller ones, but depending on where you live in the UK the police will give you shit for it. Our standard plates are 9" x 7", but people often go for smaller ones.
>>

That's a shame, we've only just gotten the Rebel in Bongistan, the only 250 we ever got was the CBR.

>>17157810

Yeah I can't stand the tail light, but it's only held on by two bolts so changing it would be very easy. The exhaust is a bit big but I think it suits the bike, it's just a bit too quiet.

I'd say it's a cruiser position given how low the seat is, I'm a manlet and I was sat on it with my legs pretty bent to be honest. It's not full Harley with the footrests up by the front wheels but it's definitely not standard.

That's pretty cool, though being taller than they are wide looks kinda weird. Apparently we have to have certain letter size and spacing too, so you've got to be really careful if you go smaller as police will use any excuse to fine you these days.

American plates are much smaller anyway, cars as well. Sometimes I'm jelly, but on the other hand we can blow past speed cameras instead of getting chased down by highway cops.
>>
>>17157861

I'd say it is, it's just a lot shorter than the average cruiser so the rider is quite upright to hold the bars. I think had they given the front end slightly less rake and given it a taller, flatter seat and sold it as like a CB500F classic, it would have sold like hotcakes.

90% of the people will ignore you or move over to let you pass.

But then there's people with anger management issues that will try to block you or cut you off which is kind of funny because then they are technically breaking the law too.

I hear it's a big issue on the east coast, supposedly the drivers in general are shit in general and so lanesplitting motorcycles get treated bad
>>
>>17157890

It's basically so they can check that you're taxed, MOTd (inspection) and insured. Also means if you've been in a hit and run and you catch the offender's plate, they flag up wherever they are and makes it easier for the police to get them. Problem is, this has sparked a huge amount of people using cloned or false plates.

I live in Austin, TX and very very rarely do anything sub-legal here.

I've seen other riders split past me and, although it hurts my pride a bit every time, I know it's easier for me to take the extra 3-5 minutes in my commute than it is to end up in a crash or with a gun in my face.

I live in California so lanesplitting is legal here.

Even then every once in a blue moon there will be a driver who will give you shit for lanesplitting.

Back in January I had a scary experience lanesplitting to the front of the line during a red light, a douchebag in his sportscar got butthurt I got to go infront of him.
When the light turned green he slammed on the gas, If I was half a foot more to the left he would have hit me.

Old guy with a grey beard acts like a child and as I'm in the ambulance with a torn up leg I wonder what he would be telling the officer.

Cruisers are super easy bikes to ride. Most likely time you'll drop it is at a stop letting it get away from you because they are so heavy. When they're moving they are stable as fuck and the brakes and motor arent powerful enough to really get you into trouble even if you tried.

Just watch where you're going and watch out for other people. Leave yourself plenty of room to brake and use both brakes.

You're better off just scrapping it or selling it to some cafe racer retard and buying a working bike.

By the time you put the time and money into getting that thing running you would have spent enough to get a better bike anyway.

Anyone buying less than an R1 is setting themselves up for failure. Small bikes make you think it's okay to flog it aimlessly so you'll end up going too fast for a corner and lowsiding because you're a shit rider on budget tires.

Get a machine you can respect. The sneeze and you wheelie meme is just that: a meme.

>>
>>17158435
Every rider should start on a literbike. There should be a special insurance bracket for people who own a literbike but have ridden lass than ~2 years that charges rates high enough to cover the cost of damage and injury for this bracket.

This way all the retards kill themselves and all the reasonably skilled riders with self control survive to go on and become better riders. having survive the gauntles of temptation and self restraint that is being a noob with tons of power.

Those who respect it survive, those who dont kill themselves or scare themselves away from motorcycles forever and everyone is better off.
>>
>>17158443
>someone overtaking you on the road makes them a better rider than you.

underage b& plz go.
>>
>>17158435
Wrong. Small bikes allow you to approach your skill boundaries and learn about what you can expect of yourself and a bike without immediately wrapping yourself around a tree. With a large bike you will NEVER know where the limit is and you will either always scaredly ride far below the limit or unintionally exceed it and kill yourself.

Real talk, small "beginner" sportbikes reach 60mph about five seconds.

60mph is already too fast for most corners outside of the highway (where they are gentle for the speed they're meant to be taken out) with a new rider in the seat. MotoGP riders take some corners going slower than that and drag knee all the way around. If you want to make it tough to accidentally go over your personal limits, skip the ninja 250 and get a tiny metric cruiser.
>>

>>
>>17158480

>>
>>17158491
Once you learn how to launch and shift on a stretch of straight amerifat road it's decently fast.
>>
>>17158475
not talking speed limits here.

Smaller bikes are more forgiving getting on and coming off the brakes and getting on and coming off the power, especially in a turn.

A literbike is MUCH less forgiving, you get on the power or get off it at the wrong time due to inexperience you are very easily in a low sid eor a high side.

If you dont have good brake control you can very easily wash out the front end grabbing too much front brake in a turn you came into too hot and panicked on.

New riders generally dont have the experience or skill to make the right on the fly decisions and apply appropriate inputs to an overly powerful bike (engine and brakes) in a given situation.

>>17158499
>it's decently fast.

Before spending ANY money, try the kickstarter to see if the engine will turn over. Do NOT jump start a motorcycle off a running auto!

Find someone local with basic small engine or motorcycle knowledge.

Presume battery is dead and carbs need cleaning.

The first line of your add immediately turns me off.

I know you think being overly honest is a valid sales tactic but that only works after you've established a rapport with someone. Since an ad is a passive sales method there is no way you can build the rapport needed.

What you need to do is to sell the strengths of the vehicle. Think of a job interview... do you sit there and tell people why the other candidate might be a better idea? You sell to the strengths, you omit the negatives.

Well stop it, that's not how life works, life is like riding your motorcycle. Whats behind you only matters when you peek your mirrors, what's infront of you is much more important. If you keep peeking your mirrors and thinking about the shit thats behind you your forward path isn't gonna be worth shit. Keep going, you know what you're doing. What's coming up under your front wheel is far more important than whats gone under your rear already.

Lifes a road. That's why I bought a motorcycle and I'm teaching myself to ride it. Lifes just a fucking road. There's rough patches, there's smooth asphalt, there's assholes on this road, there's great people as well. There's hills, ups and downs, sometimes the road forks, sometimes the weather is shit but it don't matter, what matters is the road infront of you. That's where your focus is, that's whats now, not the gravel you just made it through.

Bad advice.

You need to both in life and the bike, navigate through by balancing five things:

-A brief summary of everything leading up to this point.

-A detailed summary of what JUST happened.

-An understanding of what is going on around you right now.

-An observation of what will be coming up shortly.

-A rough prediction of what will come to pass from here until the end.

Context is the glue the binds your actions together and steers you down the path, without context everything is worthless. Focusing on the moment is just as blind as focusing on the past or worrying about the future. You need to understand where you have been and have an idea of where you will go understand how to best live in the moment and the make the next moments better.

We are here for a good while not a long while.

Cam tensioners in pre 2006 models were ass, later was fixed but that was an issue, same with cam bearings and bolts.

HD went with a chain driven cam to meet noise regulations instead of gear, the original tensioners were pretty garbo and got wiped earlier than expected leading to issues. The updated tensioner is no problems.

Yeah the oiling issues were solved pre-deployment so I never got to deal with that acoustical issue, theres a blurb on wikipedia about it if you wanna read up on it.

Twin cams are just poorly designed, if a belt goes it is a pain in the ass, and the main issue that is present in every single motor is the cam chain tensioner, whether its the original spring tensioner or the improved hydraulic tensioner if its not kept up on it will fuck the engine.
