lol pussy
how much gear how much of the time?
>>17160074
some of the gear most of the time.
All of the gear occasionally.
None of the gear occasionally.
>bought dr650
>previous bike is R1
>ride R1 for the first time in a month since getting mememachine
>footpegs too cramped
>bike too fast
>bike too heavy
>bike difficult to back up
>bike feels tiny, like a toy
>mirrors too small
>seat too small
>have to set stuff on the ground instead of just setting it on the seat
god damn, I've been pampered by dualsports for so long
>>17160091
also forgot that i cant erotically jump around on the suspension at red lights
>>17160091
I had literally the opposite experience when riding a supermoto
>tfw no more American Standard/Naked Bikes
>tfw no 650cc single thumper
feels sad man
>>17160091
>rode dual sport for years
>bought supersport
>rode supersport for couple months and hardly touched the dual sport during that time
>supersport goes out of commission temporarily
>get back on dual sport
>seat too narrow
>seating position too straight
>bars too wide
>engine too weak and gears too close
>not suitable enough for highway riding and general commuting comfortably
>no wind protection
>riding the bike just feels like sitting on a toy
At least my back and knees don't get as sore on the dual sport. Also i love sitting so high up.
Its still enjoyable. I just really really want more power now.
>>17160103
but what about the 1190SX
>>17160069
If it hasn't been modded a bunch and everything works fine then I don't see any reason why you shouldn't get it.
>>17160127
>If it hasn't been modded a bunch and everything works fine then I don't see any reason why you shouldn't get it.
cool, I'm guessing it was just used for a few weekend track days, probably needed safety wire to pass tech and the tires it's currently rocking have prominent chicken strips
Is it homosexual to wear a manufacturer branded motorcycle jacket?
>>17160212
only if you do it while having sex with other men
so how exactly does a new rider generally get a motorcycle back home from the seller's place if it's an hour+ drive away and he doesn't own a van/pickup/trailer?
>>17160270
get a friend who rides to ride it for you.
is watching supercross gay, anons?
also ryan dungey is kind of a dumbass but he's a good rider desu
>>17160270
Tell the seller to ride it there and you'll drive him home.
>>17160212
It's only gay if it's Italian.
>>17160212
nah
why is harley davidson hated? is it just because they are overpriced, or are the both overpriced and shittier than their competitors?
>>17160307
slow, heavy, ancient technology, sound like shit, look like shit, owned by faggots wearing S&M gear
>>17160307
Expensive, dated technology, not even very reliable, not innovative, and a lot of their fans are usually Wana be motorcycle gang members who act hard all the time around the bike on the weekend, and are total pussies day to day
>>17160307
As with most brands, I think it has more to do with the community around it. There are lots of really great HD folks out there. There are also a lot of rude shitbids who are happy to tell you that they are the only motorcycle that anyone other than a faggot would ride. All while dressed in full black leather in the middle of summer, smelling of sweaty man ass and chewing tobacco.

Fuel pump is getting no voltage.
I don't have the bike back from the shop, sent it there to get the carbs cleaned and some other minor shit and now they say the pump is getting no voltage.
Other than putting 12v to the pump when I get it, what else should I do? chase wiring? check the relay? I don't think I have a kickstand sensor or tip sensor. Give me some guidance here
Also, if somehow my pump is fucked, whats a reputable site to get one?
Been riding this baby ever weekend in the mountains, feels so good
>>17160366
>buy new FZ09
>dad suddenly wants to buy a Bolt
whats with this gay ass father-son shit
hes not gonna butt touch me is he
>>17160357
95% of the time it will be the relay. Start there. Check the switched output from the relay, if there is no voltage make sure that the hot side of the pole is actually hot. If so, make sure the coil side is actually receiving current to energize. If so, replace the relay.
I believe most kickstand and neutral safeties ground the ignition coil trigger. Just shutting off the fuel pump would allow it to continue running for several seconds.
Don't just hot wire the pump, bad mojo if you don't switch it correctly. Most are switched to only run for a short time during starting, and when the engine is turning. Otherwise after a crash you end up with the pump running and dumping fuel all over you and your overturned bike.
>>17160400
My dad lives across the country, I wish he was here to ride with me. Consider yourself lucky. Also Bolt is a great bike, I love mine.
>>17160407
im damn near retarded when it comes to electrical, how do i check the switch output from the relay?
Hopefully I can get my buddy over whose good with electrical and hopefully well get lucky with either a shitty broken wire of dead relay.
and I'm for sure not going to hotwire the pump.
Bike sat at the shop for now 5 weeks, now there's no fuel. Which, in fairness, I have no idea how carb fuel systems even work, but i wanna get this shit fixed and back on the road.
>>17160400
>Dad used to ride
>Sees my new bikes
>"Maybe I should get one too"

RIP my dad
>>17160400
At least you have something in common with your old man, my dad just spends all his time working. Even on his days off he looks for shit to work on.
>>17160428
I second this.
My dad only drank into a sloppy mess until he got kicked out. I wish he would taken a common interest with me.
>>17160424
Get an automotive test lamp. Ground the clamp side of it to the frame. Find the wire going to the pump, carefully piercing the insulation. If there is current, the light on the tester will turn on. For checking the coil , just pull out the relay and put the tester in the contact slot.
Speaking of motorcycle electrical... Do any current manufacturers do weird shit like 6 volt or positive ground systems?
post offroad based brap machines
pic related is a bike i bought a couple days ago, planning to convert it into an offroad racing bike
>>17160442
Thank you. Hopefully itll get towed back soon and i can get this fucker running properly.
I finally went on a good, long, solo ride in the mountains today. This thing is fun, but I barely get out of second gear. I am also glad I got to dust off my camera today for the first time in half a year or more.

I've been riding out toward the Detroit lake area in Mt. Hood national forest lately, I dunno if you've been out there, but the ride really is breathtaking, Ive never seen anything like it before.

>>17160212
Nope
Evening dbt.
Today was my first time on a motorcycle and it went pretty well. Tomorrow I'd like to start practicing u-turns but I don't really have anywhere to do that. For those who didnt see my post before I am teaching myself to ride on a 1600cc Harley FXDB. This is the closest thing to "asphalt" around and it was a 3KM ride through gravel to get to. This is chipseal so its kind of like a gravel/asphalt hybrid.
The only wide open space is the lawn back at the shop I fuck around in. The town is a 45km ride via more gravel and highway.
Should I head back to this "asphalt" to practice tomorrow or would I be ok on the grass? I kept the bike upright puttering around on the grass this morning and it was kinda slick..
Thoughts on a dualsport/dirt helmet for daily riding?
have a street helmet as well, just want something for when I move to a more rural area

You will rarely have a meaningful discussion here, all trolling aside, a good portion of the people who post here don't actually ride motorcycles. They saw their waifu riding a bike in an anime and thought they were cool, then researched them in their ample free time, but will never actually own one because unemployed/autism/social anxiety disorder etc.

>>17160633
>>17160635
It's not really /dbt/, this is a thing everywhere.
"Cruisers" and "sportbikes" occupy completely different realms and each sees the other as being "gay".

Yeah those are Heritage softails and such. With the tassels, rivets and whatnot. I bought a Street Bob and removed a bunch of chrome from it because I hate trying to keep that shit clean. It had some fancy flame design on a numbered tins set from factory but I removed those and swapped on a denim black front/rear fender and gas tank which is easy enough to just hit with the air gun to keep cleanish.

Being in Alberta and in amongst a bunch of small towns I don't see many sport bikes but the cruiser guys I deal with are all on the level. Most if not all agree that all that matters to them is two wheels, sure theres ball busting but that's all it is. Like asking the small guy who bought a sportster how the wind feels in his vagina, or softail owners telling dyna guys they don't have real Harleys, it's just for kicks.

>>17160688
Cruisers are meant for....wait for it pals...cruising, often long distances, in comfort. Sportbikes are meant for being fast. The argument you're making is like saying a cadillac doesn't have a purpose because your turbo honda civic is faster.
Besides, only a legit autist thinks thinks only have a purpose in life if there is some mathematically quantifiable value that makes it better or worse than another object. Some things are just fun. How much of a fucking sperglord are you?

This is it now. I've posted it a couple of times. I removed those silly fold out and fold up floorboards the original owner had on it. They were some sort of nigger-rigged passenger pegs made into reduced reach floorboards. I put a set of real floorboards on it.
The original owner half-assed the forward controls conversion and left the original mid-control shaft in the primary so I had to remove the primary and inner primary to get the shaft out to install the controls the correct way. I replaced the mirrors with sensible ones, the air cleaner is also now.. sensible instead of that Screaming Eagle Heavy Breather that was on before. Swapped the tins off and sold those for a coupla grand since they were a numbered set (This matters to people I guess)
Haven't bothered to mill a new trim piece for the battery cover yet or bothered to install and air cleaner cover. I left the quick detach hardware on it.

No one really despises other motorcyclists outside of select groups on the internets though. I talk to other riders riding all different kinds of bikes all the time when I'm out. 99 percent of people are friendly and just like that you both enjoy motorcycling. If the actual motorcycling community was how it was represented on these threads I wouldn't be a part of it. You know it's not like that either if you actually ride.

>>17160866
I think that's what he doesn't get or that he missed the point that "asphalt" is only about 3KM away, once I get a small brisk ride back to civilization it's just road.
As a first timer I think I did fairly well handling a 650lb bike in the dirt. Lots of people told me that grass, gravel and sand would send me ass over tea kettle but the only time it was an issue was when I tried using the front brake, when I left the front brake alone it seemed fine to me, I was able to get up in and out of tractor ruts in the approach to the shop, taking off from the end of the driveway is chowdered up gravel and washboard mud then straight up a hill and it wasn't so bad. If things got kindy sketchy when I was coming around the side of the shop dodging mud and whatnot I'd just ease off the throttle and idle the bike through slowly, if the bike felt like it was gonna start to go over a little throttle kicked me out of trouble.
Funny enough it was all the Harley guys I know telling me how troubling Harleys are in dirt and such but yesterday dbt was very encouraging and said it wouldn't be fun but I wouldn't die.
Reason I ended up buying a Harley and taking a year off from work was because of this guy here, Eric Lobo. I met him and he was extremely influential in explaining about finding life.. "out there" and that's my goal now. Get decent at riding, and go. Just start heading out and travel. He's riding a dyna by the way.
Like I said, there has got to be more to this life than working and dying and I want to find out what that is.

Don't feel so good about doing 4-5 highway hours between Houston and Dallas with two days of parking lot msf experience.
I understand in that kind of situation, a bike's essentially unreachable for me ofc. Guess I'm leaning towards the "give the seller a ride home" method for the bikes within 45 minutes of me.
Grandfather has a minivan that I've fit a tandem bike (bicycle) + a street bike into, but I'm worried about trying to get a 350/400lb sportbike up/into it (and down/out of it) without a ramp. I weigh like 130 pounds.

A shop welder would make $35-40/hr in the area, a rig welder runs their own welding truck, so the shop comes with me, they're paying for the truck basically but if the jobs 5 hours away and I'm the one they call its 5 hours of pay there for maybe a 3-4 hour job then a 5 hour return, if theres another job in the area they pay mileage from the shop to their site regardless of how far I have to go.
So if a call is up 5 hours away from shop, it's 10 hours travel + job, if the next job is 30 minutes away, they also pay 10 hours travel + job. If theres a third job close by.. you get the idea.
An insane day would be three jobs within an hour of eachother but 5 hours from the shop, that's 30 billable travel hours at $90/hr in one day.

Most people would be better served by investing smartly, getting regular exercise, lowering the amount of food they eat while increasing the percentage of dark leafy greens, drinking more water, reading more books, and having a more active role in their local politics.
Does that mean people do it? No, usually they do something detrimental to themselves.
>if everybody jumped off a bridge, i'd already be at the bottom

Personal vehicles aren't a necessity for anyone.
>>17161170
Actually stemming off of this, I was wondering, do any of you guys name your baiku?
As an analog, I named my laptop, but I never really use the name AS a name like "oh let me run upstairs and grab Stella real quick." I spend enough time cussing out my computer that actually personifying it would make me feel like I was the bad guy in an abusive relationship.
On the other hand, you could really make a case that bikes are a lot like pets. You gotta feed them, register them, get them shots on schedule, wash them, trim their nails, take them out frequently for exercise or they get moody, etc. So it might not be as terrible to personify a bike.
>>17161220
>The easiest, safest or cheapest way to travel is comparable to things that people SHOULD do, not NEED to do
>no really all these people are retards and would be better off on a bike
lol k fag
>>17161225
>implying people wouldnt be better suited riding bikes for their commute
are you so fucking fat that you literally cannot go a single day without purchasing food in bulk? you dont have a girlfriend or family, so extra passenger space is no issue
>>17161221
Unless you completely fuck up your urban planning and no one can get anywhere without a motor vehicle anymore.
>>17161221
>everybody is like me and could take a bus wherever they need to go.
Yes, personal vehicles are a necessity.
How can you be so fuckin stupid, but still breathe and speak like a non- subhuman.
>>17161212
Yeah, that's kind of what I implied when I first agreed with the toy sentiment.
Sure, there are broke assholes who only have a bike in America.
And while I'm at it, let's get back to the bait:
>>17161173
>smell like an exhaust can
>I don't
Yeah, from sitting in traffic, you'll smell.
>get sweaty
>Getting in a car that's been sitting in the sun all day is far worse than anything I deal with on a bike
LOL for two minutes before the AC kicks in. How the fuck is this even remotely comparable? Are you so fat that you get drenched in sweat after two minutes in heat?
>rained on
>I have to walk to the car anyways
Yeah because how wet you get walking to your car is pretty much the same as riding in it, right?
>>Riding on the street is fucking boring
>why didn't you just say this instead of trying to bullshit an argument to make yourself feel mart homo
because it's just more stuff for you to disagree with. More fun for everyone.
>waste of tires
>Did I mention I don't street ride on treaded race tires?
Sport touring tires will burn up in a few thousand miles if you ride hard on them. I guess you're just that slow? That's unfortunate.
>>17161223
Yeah. Sometimes I talk to it when it's being a turd
>>17161227
>ur fat
kek, you lost Lenny
>>17161235
>"i dont get sweaty due to a/c, which sucks up the stinky outside air and blows it into my face"
>bikers are sweaty whilst 60mph air blows past them
what did he mean by this
>>17161232
He's wrong to say the personal vehicles aren't a necessity for anyone.
But you're also wrong to say that personal vehicles are a necessity (for everyone).
The truth is the one that's not an extreme, which is that personal vehicles are a necessity for some and are not for others.
Just like motorcycles are a toy for some and not for others.
Man this thread really comes alive when I show up. It's great. Anyway, y'all stay slow, I'm out.
>>17161241
That makes too much sense, let me sperg about it for another hour.
I need to sleep.
>>17161241
Literally no one is going to die just because they don't have a driver's license.
>>17161249
>show me your driver's license or i will shoot you in the head
you are so fucking retarded its painful, please stop
please
>>17161249
Correct.
But here are some of my current choices:
>45 minute bicycle ride to the train station, 30 minute train ride, 30 minute walk to the office (or do the bike in train headache and have a 10 minute ride to the office)
>find an urban apartment near the office for the next few months before I go back to school and pay higher rent instead of save for tuition
>find a job closer to where I live but unfortunately pays less and isn't as interesting
Or just get a drivers licence and do my 30 minutes on the highway twice a day for a while.
>>17161223
I think most people use some nickname derived from the model in question.
Gixxer, Zixxer, Ninja, The 750, The Kawa, muh FZ etc...
>>17161263
Yep, but depends on who I speak with. Red bike, yellow bike, blue bike, the SV, the 750, the 9, the ninja, etc
How dangerous is riding a motorbike?
>>17161275
less dangerous than horse back riding, more dangerous than crossing the road.
WTF do you expect us to say, it can be dangerous and completely out of over control but so is many things.
>>17161275
Wear your helmet, do reasonable speeds, and don't ride drunk and you can cut down 80% of crashes.
Still more unsafe than a car, though.
>>17161275
not too bad if you ride a cruiser since you wont get out of the driveway
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ4828MUVs0
American roads sure seem to be shit.
No wonder you faggots all ride around cities all day.
what is dbt's opinion on bmw r1200rt. craigslist has a lot of used 14-15s in my area
>>17161268
>the 750
it's shivvy, tyvm
>>17161284
??? Didn't even look that leaned over, is that bikes suspension really THAT bad?
>No wonder you faggots all ride around cities all day.
We do? I see more riders on the touge than in the city on an average day.
>>17161284
how did he even crash, looks like he just pushed the bike down on purpose
>>17161285
go for a 1150 unless you're dead set
the 1200 still needs to iron niggles out, mainly day 1 rust and early swingarm cracks
>>17161288
no its not
>>17161275
About as dangerous as, say, Minecraft is fun
That is to say, it mostly depends on you
But, given an average rider in average situations, it's more dangerous than driving a car, and driving a car is one of the most common causes of death in the US. But it's also a lot of fun.
>>17161300
>>17161297
he let go of the throttle for a second. I guess this brought enough weight back to the front for the tire to slip on the shitty tar surface of that road.
I've been riding this piece of shit 125cc scooter for about 2 years now as part of my daily commute with occasional dirtbike time now and then.
Would I be an idiot buy a 600cc instead of, say, a "starter bike"?
I hear a lot of talk about "don't start on a 600".
>>17161313
Yeah you're right, you can hear him chop the throttle.
Probably has some garbage tires on there too.
>>17161308
>About as dangerous as, say, Minecraft is fun
So you'll enjoy motorcycles more if you're autistic?
>Ride behind girl
>Can smell her shampoo through my helmet
>Get hard
I feel so pathetic right now. But man she smelled nice
>>17161083
>high strung V-twins sound absolutely silly, too.
silly good or silly bad?
>>17161300
he cut the throttle mid turn like a fucken pleb, unweighted the rear tire as the weight moved the to front tire so it could swing around and deck him
>>17161300
That patch shit on the road that patches the cracks is like glass when it has the slightest bit of moisture on it. I can't help but wonder if that's when his rear wheel lost traction.
>>17161316
You wouldn't be starting on a 600 though.
>>17161334
It was clearly his front that lost traction but nice try anon
Its come up to winter again and my visor has started fogging up. I cant find my bottle of anti-fog and dont want to waste more on it. Can I make some decent stuff from household items?

precum works well
>>17161345
Scuba divers use toothpaste... that might help.
>>17161336
Fair enough. I guess the extra power will take getting used to.
>>17161323
Seems reasonable enough.
In the 4chan sense of the word.
Is all brake fluid the same or do different brands/more expensive stuff work better? I finally got my braided lines and want to get the most out of them
>>17161415
DOT 4 is standard
DOT 5.1 is premium (supposed to last longer)
DOT 5 is not for you if you dont own a harley
>>17161445
I mean within the grades. Anyway arent you supposed to only use what the bike specifies?
>>17161327
Wait, are you saying you were riding bitch, or that you smelled a girl riding a different bike in front of you?
If #1, she knew you'd get hard, fucking everyone knows this. You never let a guy ride bitch unless you're on a fuckhuge tourer with a literal couch in the back.
If #2, you should join the bomb squad.
>>17161464
#2. Its why I feel so bad about it
Theres a new thread in town
>>17161472
>>17161472
>>17161472
>>17161471
Should have stopped her and asked what shampoo she's using, that's some good shit.
>>17161455
you can use 5.1 even if it specifies 4
i doubt there is a difference between brands. the DOT certification is rather specific.
