Hey guys, new rider here. Just got my first bike. I think I may have fucked up.

I got something with a .25 power-to-weight ratio, I'm kinda scared to get back on it after yesterday. I twisted the throttle for almost no time at all and I was already going over 60mph in a residential. I've had slow shitboxes my whole life too so it doesn't help. I follow ATGATT, am insured and aced my MSF course but it didn't prepare me very well for all this power.

Did I fuck up? Is it possible to learn still? I really want to ride but it feel like a really steep learning curve on a bike like this.

1st time: harley shut Buell down because Keith Wandel is a cockmunch.
2nd time: hero hires (buys controlling shares) of a small American start up to design bikes for them. When the bikes are 85% done, pull out completely with out paying for any of the work because lol fuck you bye Felicia. EBR no longer has the funding to do what they were doing and has to close.

What up, /dbt/

Is there a guide to upshifting somewhere? I somehow nail my downshifts and rev matches perfectly, but I seldom get my upshifts going right.

Either I don't give enough throttle and then the engine revs high as I finally connect the clutch (probably me changing too slowly), or I slip the clutch for slightly too long. I never get the perfect VROOM-vroooOOOM sound of revving then upshifting and revving again, it's always a VROOM-vroom and it takes a second to get back into the power band.

Hope my mildly autistic rambling makes sense. Is this a muscle memory thing or can I actually learn?

I'm not excusing anything. Erik is not a business man, he's an engineer. The bikes are good, they just need decent funding and most importantly, marketing. The marketing for EBR was atrocious this time around. They need a dedicated marketing team, someone who can get dealers, and exposure.

Stop using the clutch.

>Balls out accel
>Preload shifter a little bit (foot in position to upshift putting a little pressure on it)
>Chop throttle ever so slightly
>feel the pause between acceleration and deceleration
>Upshift during that pause
>Hammer on the gas again

Once you get that down add clutch to make it smoother

hey /o/ I got my first bike about a year ago (ninja 250) and have put about 4k miles on it. I'm feeling more comfortable now on the bike and thinking about selling it and getting something a bit bigger. I like the feel of a sport bike, but am not opposed to something else. I've looked around and heard suggestions like a daytona, sv650, ninja 636, but I'd like to hear what you guys think. Price range is preferably no more than $4,000.

Just try any of the 600 class supersports then. CBR600RR, R6, ZX6R/636, or GSX-R600. They're all really comparable. If you find them uncomfortable then you might want to try the sport-touring derivatives like a FZ6.

If you need to pull away real slow, ease out the clutch in idle. It's a V-MAX, it'll quite happily roll along in idle.

If you are in my country, South Africa, it would depend if you were speeding and if the road was more than one lane.

If you were splitting legally he would be at fault for not checking blind spots.
>>
>>16846102
Does the whole thing need to be replaced?
What engine?
If there's no bottom end damage just replace the top unless it's really old / high mileage. And even then it probably doesn't need it.

Noice. But still plenty of torque. As already pointed out fine throttle control ia the only way to manage that beast as it pulls hard in lower rev ranges also.

Be VERY careful when cornering as it's basically designed to run straights fast
>>
>>16846096
If the vehicle violating traffic laws hits you it's their fault.

Will I've been level at 730 for the last 4 months just because I only have one line of credit. The fact that I can pay this loan off in a half a year doesn't hurt me. Plus then I get the bike I've wanted in my name, no lien at all, and I can pay liability only insurance. I think it will help a lot more then the little bit of interest hurts in the long run

Bike in question
>2017 Kawasaki Ninja 300

Haven't been on anything other than a dirt bike before. Have a long work commute that's full of Twisties and stop signs.

Want it as a starter bike while I tear my summer car apart. Originally planned on driving my winter beater until the summer was fixed, but for <6k new it'd be hard to turn down.

What's the insurance rates like? I completed the MSF a few years ago, but I'd probably take it again.

Roads on the new commute are 45-55mph roads with lots of stops.

Aiming for MPG, fun factor, and I've always wanted a street bike.

Is the 2017 Kawasaki 300 a decent bike? Could I put it in the back of the truck and track it?
>>

Don't get a new bike as your first bike. Period. Last year I bought a 2016 Ninja 300. I love the bike, lots of fun but it's small, I've dropped it at least once and felt horrible about dropping my brand new bike. Find a cheap ninja 300 on craigslist, or worst case a dealership might have a used one they're trying to flip quick.
>>
>>16846680
why 2017?
You save money and have a more powerful bike if you buy a mid-2000s one
>>
I was all set to go to SAM last year, then the date was changed to 3 weeks later and I couldn't justify taking the time off that close together. And it sucks because I was in the area 2 weeks before. I also didn't want to do a 700 mile trip twice in that time period.

Daily reminder that REAL MOTORCYCLING™ is exclusively low speed control.

Anyone that goes faster than 75mph on a motorcycle is not a real motorcyclist and should not own or ride a motorcycle. No one should ride any motorcycles with more than 50hp and everyone should wear a textile oversuit, knee pads, neck condom, leg condoms, elbow pads, elbow condoms, helmet and head condom, full elbow length gloves with integrated glove condom, boots, boot condoms, chest protector, chest condom, etc. or you're not a REAL MOTORCYCLIST™ and in a crash your shitty leather and CE padding will explode compared to my impenetrable textile armor that I wear to political rallies and beat people up in. Anyone who drags knee or leans more than 20 degrees in a turn is just asking for death and will crash and die guaranteed. REAL MOTORCYCLING™ is all about following road rules to a T and flipping out and going into a rage at every single mistake anyone else makes on the road, just so they know how inferior they are to you. To prove you are a REAL MOTORCYCLIST™ you should record these episodes on one of your 7 GoPros mounted all over your motorcycle and body and post them in over-annotated Youtube videos just so everyone can see how good you are at REAL MOTORCYCLING™. Be sure to ride around in densely populated areas with lots of traffic to ensure you are capturing the best footage of people not driving as well as you are riding your motorcycle and the inferior actions they take.

Consider yourselves educated in the proper ways of riding, I hope everyone takes this to heart. Take care and vlog safe.
>>
>>16846769
what are all these condoms of which you speak?
>>
>>16846680
Pick up a used WR250X and hoon the fuck out of it. They are just as fast to reasonable speeds. Get better gas mileage, handle better in tight twisties, and overall are just more fun bikes.

Only thing you're missing out on is faux-sportbike looks and about 20mph of top speed you're probably not going to use anyway.

And as a learning bike you can drop the fuck out of them and not damage anything other than some superficial scratches on pegs/handlebars.

They do 95-100mph? How is this not fast enough for highway speeds?

I ride mine to work every day on the freeway in southern california. Lane splitting and passing people going 70mph+

They are more than fast enough for the highway and will do 75mph all day and night. Try actually riding one before you jump to conclusions.

Hell I cruise around at 75mph+ on the highway and I have mine regeared +4 in the rear.

>hur dur indicated.
No, thats actual speed from GPS on phone. Indicated i'm at like 100-105mph due to stock speedo inaccuracy and regear.

If you're putting them on a second set of wheels for mainly dirt use, why not get dedicated off-road tires like k760s.

sounds like a weird combination anyway. I would at least put the knobbier tire on the front and put the trials tire on the rear.

so i bought a bike 3 weeks ago from craigslist, it came with a title but it's not on the seller's name he said he got it as a payment for some car work he did

now i need the title to my name because the apt complex i live in decided to enforce their towing of non operable vehicle on their lot just recently (had my daily on expired registration for 8 months with no problem from the apt previously)

he's being flakey about helping straighten this title issue out, the plates has got 2011 tags on it. possibly off the dmv records by now? if so how easy would it be to apply for a new title. i dont have a bill of sale for it either but i do know where he lives and his number

should i just take the bike back to him and get my money back?

One little trick you can do with the handle bars is flip them upside down and switch sides. It makes the r6 a bit more upright when I did it. Newer 636s might be a little tricky because of the steering stabilizers, but it's an otherwise simple flip.

Everyone learns at their own pace, but you'll find that 4,000 miles isn't very much. Humans have a natural tendency to overestimate their ability; you and I are no exceptions. If you bought your bike used, I'd say keep it a while longer until you really get a good feel for riding. Of all the bikes you mentioned, the SV would be the most appropriate right now. The fact that you've only put 4,000 miles on in a year shows that you don't ride much, I really think you're overestimating yourself here.

I don't think you'd have any problem going to the 636, but I also agree wtih the other anon that you'd still have heaps to learn on the mount you're on.

SV's are good but you're getting far superior kit on a 600 in terms of suspension, braking, frame, even stuff like the weight of the wheels and what not.

Looks clean af and seems like a good price, but I know nothing about a bike like this. I have always owned italian bikes but something about the 2 stroke is just sexy. I can't find much about it online, what do you think?

The single most american thing you can do is buy a used bike in cash from a fellow american (and put an american flag on the back, as long as it was made in america by american workers from american materials and bought from an american store that only serves american goods and employs americans)

If you buy a new harley a lot of your money is going to the overseas manufacturers that provide their parts
