They're like 9.99 on Amazon. Worth the purchase even if you end up hating them

Hey guys, I'm wanting a dirt bike. Very little experience, also the runt of my family. Brother's have YZ426 and Honda 250 2 stroke and those are too much for me. We would just do basic trails and desert rides. I don't like to go too fast, and I've never even gotten those bikes out of 3rd gear. I was wondering if a 125 or CRF150 would be too small? Leaning towards 230 as well. I want low end power, smooth and stable since I'm only ridden about 12 times in my life time. Just something to putt around the camp site and go a couple miles out. No racing or bashing over whoops nor any jumping at all.
>>
Has anyone ever seen a motorcycle related tattoo that wasn't cringeworthy?

>>16736648
Get a KLX300 or DRZ400E or similar. CRF230L is a fucking dog that should be put down.
Once you get a little more experience you'll be able to handle a bigger bike than you expect, that's just the way it is with dirt bikes.

I own a R3 and the Ninjette is a better beginner bike.

They can have ABS, been around for a couple years longer so there is a bigger used market and they are cheaper because you can find a better range of bikes with good service while having more miles.

I love them, I get angry with honda because they don't update them enough and do silly things, but they have fantastic engineers and the bike is just perfect on road.

The engine has unbelievable booty on it and light reciprocating mass, it's so responsive it's unbelievable (pulls like crazy from 4,000 RPM) and at the same time the thing is comfy, the tank feels great to tuck on/perfect for your legs, it won't crush your hands on full lock etc.

but yeah the first year of these had oil burning issues.

I used to do a thorough clean with a brush and lube every 500 or so miles.

My chain would get pretty dry and dirty in between and I think it wore out my prev chain pretty quick.

So what I do now is inbetween whenever it looks a bit dry or after being in the rain, I grab a rag with some kerosene and just give it a quick wipe down and then wax. Not as thorough but it's seems to be working nicely.

>>16737277
Actually he's someone right, the WD-40 is completely wrong but when you lube o-ring or x-ring chains you are not actually reaching the inner rollers. That's the lube that is sealed in initially and where the actual wear/elongation of the chain exists. All your doing is preventing it from rusting and being dirty basically. This is not the case with older style chains that don't have any o-rings, lubing them is critical.
>>
>>16737269
Yea, I'm asking if you guys think it will be a good bike.
It looks great from the pictures and the "tear" in the seat isn't even noticeable.
Here's the description:
Just in time for spring! It is time for me to let go of my 2008 Triumph Speed Triple. This bike has been in the family since it was purchased new. It has been an excellent bike, and is a blast to ride, but I need to thin the herd a little.

A few things to note:
The bike has been dropped at low speed which resulted in a scrape on the front and rear wheel, and a less than 1" tear in the seat.
Front tire wear is fine. The rear still has life left in it, but will need to be replaced before too long
While you're getting new tires, it would also be a good time to put a new chain and sprocket set on

The fun stuff:
Has an amazing sounding full Arrow exhaust. Nothing beats the sound of a triple
Sweet Triumph LED turn signals
Pro Taper bars with bar end mirrors
CRG levers
BMC air filter
New battery in the last 12 months
Clean title in hand, ready to sign it over to you for the right price.

I am asking $6200 and open to offers. Sorry, no trades at this time. Email me and I will reply ASAP

I ride a lightweight dual sport on high mileage street oriented 90/10 tires. It handles much more like a normal dirt bike than it did with the 17" sportbike tires. Of course they're not as sticky as supersport tires but the same tire on a 17" rim won't be either.

>And also available in normal dirt bike rim sizes.
I don't want them on regular 21/18's. I want them on 17" wheels so I can have a good amount of rubber on the road and better turn in. 17" wheels are more appropriate to street riding, which is the majority of what I do on this bike.

If I want to take it offroad I can, if it's something too hairy for the 17's and street tires it's as easy as a wheel swap.

>How does it feel to get so triggered
Calmly explaining to you how you are wrong isn't being 'triggered'.
I see how you must resort to this piss poor ad hominem because you lack the ability to actually rebuke anything I've said.

>I ride a lightweight dual sport on high mileage street oriented 90/10 tires. It handles much more like a normal dirt bike than it did with the 17" sportbike tires.
No shit, Sherlock.
I don't want my bike to handle like a dirtbike on the road because dirtbikes handle like garbage on the road.

>Of course they're not as sticky as supersport tires but the same tire on a 17" rim won't be either.
A 90/10 adventure tire will be sticker and handle better on a 17" wheel than it will on a set of 21/18's.
Why the fuck would anyone choose to put a set of street oriented tires on a dirt oriented wheel setup when you can put street oriented tires on street oriented wheels and get a better result?

And then you're occupying your dirt wheels with shitty street tires when you could have a set of knobbies on them to swap out when you want o play in the mud.

It's a sidecar, not a trike. Right turns can be dangerous if you go too fast or if you don't have some ballast in the tub. You drag to the right when accelerating and drag to the left when decelerating. Left turns can be taken pretty wildly. Your balance in a sidecar rig is shaped like a triangle between all 3 wheels. The easiest way to tip is to right turn too fast, but if you left turn too quickly then you can tip forwards between the front wheel and the sidecar wheel. You lean into the direction you turn, more lean for faster turns. You actually turn the handlebar to turn much like an ATV. They're weird to ride and it's been so long since I've ridden my 2 wheel bike that I've forgotten how. It's a ton of fun and everyone loves a sidecar.

Unless you ride aggressively (ie care about the size of your tendies and wanna lean over more and more without the skills for it) or pay zero attention to whats going on around you, you most likely won't crash. I had depression and going for rides is legit the only real reason I go outside aside from going to work and grocery shopping.

Also going for rides to new destinations leaves you feeling like you accomplished something. I also think that it also stimulates you mentally somewhat. Just sort your shit out and get back on the bike senpai. We're all gonna make it.

How about you read my post again instead, I already said he didn't start it.

Here's a very real chain of events.

1. car overtakes while flipping the bird, this driver is clearly a dickhead and no amount of interaction with this driver would lead to a positive outcome
2. rider speeds up to flip them off back because he can't take having his poor ego insulted like that.
3. car throws the bottle

Do you know why this would never happen to me, and I have no sympathy for the rider?

because I would have never engaged in step 2, you can't ride motorcycles with either an ego or a thin skin and this guy had fucking both in spades, nothing a car driver does can upset me because being upset is for children and it doesn't help me ride better.

>best beginner cruiser bike?
Whatever you can afford. They're all overly heavy but have a low center of mass so they're easy to control. They are stupid stable so very easy to ride.

>also can someone explain countersteering?
You countersteer literally every time you take a turn with your feet up on a motorcycle.

Think of countersteering as:
>steering the bottom of the bike out from under you opposite of the direction you would like to turn.

Looking head on at your bike it is a second order lever with the fulcrum being the bike's center of mass. This is the point it pivots around. When you steer right to go left you are applying a force where the rubber meets the road in order to pivot the bike about its center of mass to initiate and maintain a lean in the direction of travel.

If you were to steer into a turn the bike would pivot opposite the direction you would like to go and you would not be able to make the turn.
>>
>>16737560
It's not just the bad head place that imagining crashes puts me in (and man that's shit but easy enough to get over) but also I feel like looking really close into how safe stuff actually is has left me with a really negative feeling from reading about the particular shortcomings of everything.

When does endangering the life and liberty of over upstanding white citizens because you're too much of a colossal fucking pussy to do a track day or wait till you're on an interstate without anyone else around make you a bad person? Probably immediately.

If you're going 150mph on public roads with pedestrians literally walking around you're an unmitigated asshole who belongs in jail.

>>16737902
Throughout the turn. Initially you apply more pressure to get the lean started, but you maintain pressure to maintain the lean.

Motorcycle steering geometry is such that the bike wants to track straight and upright. You are maintaining bar pressure on the inside grip to the turn to maintain the lean against the bikes natural tendency.

More sport oriented bikes have less inbuilt stability in their geometry so they require less pressure to initiate and maintain a turn. That's why people say they feel like they want to "fall into the turn".
>>

>a striple rx now if being a britcuck makes you feel better.
No.
Triumphs are literally worse than shitzuki's.

You have garbage taste in motorcycles Mr. Goldstein.
>>
>>16737917
But why blue, black should be the easiest colour to match the tape to the body

>>16737902
The bars will naturally turn in to follow the arc of the turn, that's why people think they steer into the turn. Pushing the inside bar will make the bike lean over further and turn tighter.

Human existance is very fragile (I know this sounds lame). Most shit we do is unsafe. Even if you were to stay indoors and never leave you wouldn't be safe. A plane could crash into your house, roof could collapse, armed robber could shoot you etc. Nothing is safe. We just do what we can to mitigate risks and ignore fear. Accepting the fact that we all ultimately die also helps. You don't know whether the universe has decided whether you will die in 30 years or 30 days or 30 minutes. Shit outside of your control will most likely kill you no matter what. So just get over it. Get your gear organised (do what you can to mitigate injury) and get back on your bike.

Just ride.

It's probably just a clogged pilot jet. Take the jet out and spray some carb cleaner directly through it. Also hold it up to a light and you should be able to see the light through the little hole in the middle.
Also try turning up your idle speed some.
Change the fork oil when you get to doing the other fluids too. Refill it with a slightly higher viscosity fluid and set the fluid level higher than you normally would. Doing that made my CRF150F feel 10x better. Unfortunately I only did that when I was preparing to sell it so I didn't get to enjoy it for long.

I'm not sure I'd call Australian Superbike exactly amateur level but then again I don't really know how its current level compares to the early 90s.

I suppose the CBR250RR should be several seconds a lap faster than the current CBR250Rs in the Dream Cup too and even that's kind of hard to imagine just looking at a spec sheet, so it shouldn't be a surprise the performance gaps are huge for small bikes compared to the peters.
