>doing oil change on DRZ
>had to move ninja 250 around to have some space
>finish up, everything went well
>moving bikes back to normal parking spots
>not used to handling how low the ninja is and drop it on the floor
>leave it there and laugh for a few minutes, just looking at it
>park the bikes and go upstairs

For some reason I'm just so happy, and this made me laugh a ton. Rode that ninja for a little over a year as first bike, never put it down until now, and I wasn't even riding it, or doing work on it, the bloody key wasn't even in the ignition.

The first time I ever drop a bike and it's in my garage simply moving it, for some reason I'm very happy about this.

How's your day going so far friendos?
>>
>>16661261
>cant see for shit because visor keeps fogging
Wax your visor
>cant be seen for shit because not bright yellow
You don't have lights or high-vis stripes? What are you doing on the road any way?
>cant grip for shit because small contact pavement on wet pavement isn't great
You still have most grip.
>get wet
Get better shit
>even if I have fucktons of rain gear to keep me mostly dry while riding
GET BETTER SHIT
> I have to find somewhere to store a bunch of wet gear without it getting stolen while I'm at work/class
At work just at the coat hanger near a heater at your workplace
In class let your jacket hang over your seat, keep the rest on
>It's just not fun or convenient. Why do you insist everyone should like riding in the rain?
It's more convenient than sitting in traffic.
>>
>>16661307
Can't argue with fairweather fairies, friend
>>
>>16661293
m8, the only times i have ever dropped my ninja 250 was while working on it. that center stand is not stable enough imo for any serious work.
>>
>>16661326
centerstands are pointless. remove it, gain cornering clearance, and buy cheap fork/swingarm stands. costs like $50 for a set
>>
>>16661293
>How's your day going so far friendos?

Worked for 12 hours, drove around the country for 6 hours, and did some troubleshooting, but didn't fix anything.
When I got home my girl texted me not to forget about tomorrow.
So could be a lot better.
>>
>>16661340
>centerstands are pointless
If they're done badly maybe.
>>
>>16661340
Center stands make chainlubing the easiest thing in the world. I wish my VFR had one.
>>
>>16661307
I ride in the rain too but...
>In class let your jacket hang over your seat, keep the rest on
Beeing all day with a dripping wet pants on isnt good, and the jacket is going to make a huge puddle on the classroom floor.
Not a good solution.
>>
>>16661340
I wouldn't go that far. It's a fantastic asset. The reason I use it most often for is actually so I can park it completely upright and not have to lean it one way or the other. Saves space.
>>
>>16661366
>Beeing all day with a dripping wet pants on isnt good
Why not? Have done it so many times.

>and the jacket is going to make a huge puddle on the classroom floor.
Not my problem, not only one that was wet.
>>
anyone here tried out a recent Moto Guzzi V7?
>>
>>16661387
wow that's a pretty bike
>>
>>16661307
>doing all that shit
>when I could simply get in my car instead
I guess the value of a motorcycle as a commuter is higher when there's fucktons of traffic and you can filter through it, but neither of those things apply where I live.
>>
>>16661435
I agree. problem is though, none of the big U.S. outlets have really reviewed it, and the European ones that have have come to the conclusion that if you want a bike that feels really old the Guzzi is the one for you. Which makes me worry that it will shit the bed when compared to the Street Twin or other vintage looking bikes
>>
>>16661445
Motorcycles are cheaper to register and insurance is dirt cheap compared to a car.
Also fuel economy is way better.

If you want to keep a car use it to get to work when it rains or you need to bring stuff in the trunk. Then ride the motorcycle when the weather's good.
>>
>>16661293
I went to my local yamaha dealership to get a price quote on my seat fairing because I fell into a pothole and cracked that shit. Was expecting like $400 quote because jap plastic but the dealer knocked it down to $280. Picking that shit up tomorrow
>>
>>16661387
If you want that retro style but a new bike you're better off with Truimph. Those are slow and hot
>>
>>16661615
Harleys are pretty retro
>>
>>16661387
Incredibly slow, like I can't describe how slow, it makes 36 horsepower to the rear wheel stock. Buy an old 850T, it'll be faster, just as reliable, cheaper, and more interesting.
>>
>>16661576
No. I like my car AND my motorcycles. Why does this trigger you so hard?
>>
>>16661671
Yeah but none of them save that new street twin and the dyna will come close to the cornering ability of any guzzi or triumph
>>
>Tried the 2-layer glove trick
>Hands were still numb after an hour of riding
I really need heated gloves don't I
>>
I can get a 79 goldwing 1000cc in great shape off an old dude who is moving and can't take it with him.

I've never ridden before, would this be a good bike to start with? Is it too heavy or big?
>>
>>16661842
Yes. Both of those.
>>
>>16661842
Yes, but if it's really cheap af (should be less than $1000 for this old of a bike) then it won't be too big of a deal when you drop it.

Guys my 2016 R6 veers to the right when I let go of the handle bars. I bought it brand new and it only has 2k miles on it. When I asked about this at the dealer they told me to not let go of the handlebars.

Is this normal? I thought bikes were supposed to go straight when you let go of the bars.

Also, I tried it on perfectly flat roads. In order to go straight I have to shift my body weight to left.
>>
>>16662072
Take it to get the wheels balanced? I've never experienced/seen/heard of that before.
>>
>>16661692
No dyna is going to hang with any Triumph if the rider knows what he's doing.
>>
>>16662072
This is why you don't buy a wheely king used. The head bearings are probably fucked from all the crash landings.
>>
>>16662072
Road camber may be having some effect, but if you are on genuinely flat roads, then no it's not normal.

Bikes are quite strongly self-correcting and should go dead straight without input.

Got cut off at the gas station and dropped my bike and now shifting up is janky, it shifts down fine but shifting up the thing gets stuck or something, I kick it up 3 times to get 1 gear and when it gets stuck in neutral shit was embarassing riding home.

Anyone know what could be the problem?
>>
>>16662112
Dude, in my second sentence I write that I bought it brand new. I have never wheelied it or anything to that extent.

>>16662135
I had a trusted mechanic test ride it and while he noticed it veering right as well, he could not say that it was an issue. As in the bike is perfect other than the whole veering thing

Any ideas on what to check?
>>
>>16662154
It bent the shift lever/mechanism. Repair or replace.
>>
>>16662163
Dunno how I missed that, but if it's new then I would still suspect the head bearings aren't set up right.
>>
>>16662163
As an owner of an R6, it's probably the wheel alignment/bearings or head bearings.
>>
>>16662166
It doesn't look bent but it does look a little too close towards the engine, not even going to try messing with it I made an appointment for next week senpai thanks
>>
>>16662163
rear wheel out of alignment? or head bearings would be my very uneducated guesses desu
>>
>>16661942
Go for it. Even when you don't like riding it, you'll make more money selling it (when you cleaned and oiled up everything) or chopping it down and selling the parts.
The greatest problem in your case is not the weight or the engine size, it'll be diagnozing, what is wrong with it, that your coworker sells a 70s icon for 400$. Prepare yourself to spend a few hundred bucks to make it road fit. Don't cheap oit on new tires. Maybe a new chain or break pads or even a breaking disk. Does something leak?
Not the hugeness of the bike (compared to nowadays Goldwing the old one is pretty tiny) will darken your first riding experiences, but maybe the work and money you have to put into your bike.
>>
>>16662212
Head bearings checked and are good to go, still veering

Are the bars and clamps actually lined up square to the front wheel? The forks may have twisted in the clamps from a harsh wheelie coming down OR forks may be bent.

Also worth comparing condition of brakes on each side and ensuring the rear wheel is lined up correctly.
>>
>>16662072
Is your front end aligned? As in, does the bike go straight when the bars are straight?
>>
>>16662072
lmao dude ignore what all these other retards said. your bike is completely fine. mine did this too for ages and i could never figure out why. your body positioning is just fucked up and you can't tell because you're involuntarily shifting your weight to maintain balance. it's hard to explain

Nikes naturally slalom on the road, sounds like your bike is set up in a way that is making it slalom more than it should, the forks are either too high or too low in the triple clamps.

i hear most other places segregate into separate communities, sport bikes ride with sport bikes, cruisers with cruisers, harleys with harleys, no mis matching.

Did Kawasaki come out with a stock 'cafe racer' to compete with the CB1100/1300? Because I'm like 80% certain that's what I saw just now on my way home from work.

It looked very likely stock, almost like a W800 but with a huge tank and four cylinders. If it was custom it must have been a seriously worked over Z1000 or something like that, but I didn't notice a big frame on the side.
>>
>>16663086
This is fairly correct unless you use Facebook to coordinate, then within the ride it just splinters by rider speed.

I actually thought about that, but the tank was bigger and rounder, white, no stripes, thing was brand new shiny. If it was custom it was probably based on a ZRX instead of a Z1000.

It looked extremely similar to a CB1100 but very clearly had Kawasaki in silver letters on the side of the white tank.

Pros: Every engineering flaw has mostly been worked out by now. Manageable powerband for city riding. Fast, but not face-meltingly fast. Honda reliability. A billion aftermarket parts/accessories. Very comfortable riding posture compared to Gixxer or R6 (all the riding blogs/magazines seem to agree). Probably sexxiest looking 600 out there now. Can get with ABS. Fun as fuck.

Cons: Everyone whines about no significant updates in 10 years.

I wouldn't buy a 600 if you didn't plan on seriously smashing twisties and hitting up the track, they're at their best with -1/+2 gearing and then they're not so great on the highway or whatever.

You can totally daily sportbikes however, I really like having a narrow bike with clip ons for filtering and your average commute length isn't long enough to be uncomfortable.

>>16663441
It makes a difference, with the mirrors folded in especially you really appreciate the narrow profile. I've filtered on lots of different bikes and I'll take something with clip ons for it every time.

>>16663445
try a 600 with -1/+2 sometime, I used to be in the same camp but you have to remember 600s are geared for like mugello length straights stock, they'll have plenty of midrange get up and go when geared correctly.

I found out that putting another pair of gloves under my gloves it only became colder. Was weird as fuck.

It's getting used to the cold too. Last year (when I worked inside) I rode until it dropped below 1°C and at that point my hands were dying after 5 minutes, this year I've ridden with -3°C but didn't have cold hands at all, but I'm outside all the time. Was walking around without a sweater and jacket zipped op, because I was sweating balls with 5°C and a bit of sun.
>>
>>16663569
the inner pair probably isn't any good at insulating so the heat from your hands is stuck between the gloves or now escaping from the bigger entry from the cuff
warmth from clothes isn't exactly cumulative

No, chances are the gloves were too tight, which constricted your hands and prevented good circulation. When you start layering gloves they have to get progressively bigger. Try gutting brush guards, the plastic guards that attach to the bike in front of the levers. If you can keep the wind from hitting your hands directly, a good pair of winter gauntlets with glove liners should work ok right down to freezing.
>>
>>16663694
I have hand guards and heated grips.

Those gloves I used were the right size, used them before. They were thin cotton gloves.
My real winter gloves went over them snugly. Working gloves are tighter.

It was really humid cold, fucking hate that shit.

>>
>>16663842
why do fucking retards on 4chan keep perpetuating this myth? all you need to check valves is a feeler gauge like you normally use and a dial gauge that you might already have anyway and if you don't, they're cheap. To change them you just need a modified pair of vice grips which is under $100.

MV doesn't have memevalves, it's just a radial valve layout so the cam lobes are ground at an angle.

Servicing them is super easy and not particularly expensive, though parts are a bit pricey. The real issue is availability of parts. It took about 3 months to get my wheels, and MV took about a month to get me a set of wellnuts.
>>
>>16663882
it's not a myth, ass lord. for people who aren't mechanically inclined, they have to pay other people to check their memevalves, which costs more. and yeah, i owned an 848 for about three years.

>duuhurr memevalves

people who aren't mechanically inclined are paying out the ass for valve adjustments anyway

desmo valves are not harder to check than normal valves, and in fact are easier in some ways because you don't have to deal with lining up the timing marks on crank or cams, just slip off the belt

and for some people who aren't poorfags and/or are more proficient with a wrench than a monkey, it's not a big deal

Instead of actually getting a motorcycle license and baiku, this little shit get his parents to buy him a brand new Piaggio MP3. Where I live, anything with more than 2 wheels is a car, so he can drive/ride the thing with his car license. Netherlands if anyone is wondering.

Now obviously he hasn't has any type of training in bikes and "rides" like a cyclist goes about his business in traffic. I don't want to hurt the kids feelings but that thing is a death contraption. Both front wheels need conact with the ground or the rider is ded.

I start his commute back home today. Jesus /dbt/, tapping tons of mirrors while filtering, no sense of adequate distance, no sense of lane presence.

I have thought of either telling him to get his bike license, or teaching him in a parking lot how keep things like lane presence in mind. On the other hand, I don't want to be morally responsible when (not if) he parks the thing into the back of a volvo v70.

Wat do /dbt/? Let him die? Help him?

Also, did you buy your qt bike something nice for today?
>>
>>16664895
those things are more capable than you'd think.

and you need the front wheel to be in contact with the ground on a bike or you're ded anyway.

I would say leave him be but if he feels any inclination to start riding a real bike help him out
>>
>>16664906
I know they're sturdy and all, but I've seen one going over a slight bump with 1 front wheel during a corner which destabilized the whole thing.

Also, I kind of feel bad for the possibility of him taking a corner way too hot and crashing. Like I said, he has obvious cyclist mentality.

I guess I'll wait and see if he asks for tips.
Also, I need to proofread before I hit post, jesus
>>
>>16664854
is it true you can be cited/fined for foul language in public
>>
>>16664895
if you genuinely care about his safety, make sure he's practiced panic braking at the least
>>
>>16664917
Will do mate. I've been thinking about things like emergency braking in a straight line, actually checking blind spots (he stares straight ahead), and to get him a general idea of where to ride when cruising. He sticks all the way to the right in his lane, he's just inviting a car to get into his lane and push him off the road

Supersports are a terrible choice for commuting anon. Pic related, or just about any other class of bike, would be a far better option.
>>
>>16664915
there's nothing "wrong" per se with stepping in to try to help someone if they don't realize they need help. from what it sounds like, he really needs someone to step in and give him a bit of a reality check. at the end of the day it is his choice whether or not he wants to engage with you so it's not like you're forcing him or anything. making the attempt shows you give a shit, which is a rarer and rarer thing in modern, western societies.

I realise that was an odd string of questioning. If you really want one in Melbourne go for https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/vermont/motorcycles/honda-nsr150-2-stroke-lams-rs125-cbr250-300/1135303497, the one you linked has close to 40,000km which means it's due for both a top and bottom end, and I'd be worried about the nikasil in the barrel being worn out.

They only produce about 29hp without the tyga pipe, with the pipe and an upsized jet you can probably get them up to 35 reliably, anything more than that and you dramatically increase risk of seizing the engine.

If you weigh in at 70 or less they can be zippy, anything much over 80 though and they will feel slow.

Parts are quite cheap
>>
I need to buy a new battery for my motorcycle. Unless I buy online, I'm looking at about $80 for a new one. Is this a fair price? Would I just end up getting shit if I bought a different battery online that costs ~$40?
>>
>>16665139
That is about average for a lead-acid motorcycle battery. Don't buy a shit battery
>>
Are you guys aware of a gentleman by the name of "squidanon"?

He has recently been harassing a board I'm on and I have been told he's one of yours, and that you have pictures of him.

Hi, don't respond to him.

We know a lot about him, including his power word and related police incidents involving him taking somebody hostage but I'm not going to tell you because fuck you are retarded if you think responding to somebody on that level of autism will do anything.

Just ignore, do not respond.
>>

Wait... You're not telling me all the bullshit he's saying is TRUE are you?

How is this man not in prison.

Anyways my apologies for bringing this here, I just wanted confirmation so we could move to ban him.

Thank you for your time.
>>
>>16665215
he got sent to a mental hospital not prison because he was quite young and "emotionally disturbed"

The incident was in 2015.

One of our most hated tripfags actually met him in person believe it or not.

>>16665132
70-75kg I think, don't have scales.

I have around $2500, but I would prefer to only spend about 2 grand on a bike.

The second one in Vermont I saw, but he didn't have a price so I assumed it'd be a fair bit more than the $2000 one.

I'm not too worried about power, just looking for a decent, cheap 150 or 250. As long as it's not going to struggle just riding around or needing to overtake anyone.

Thanks for the info, how hard is it to do that kind of work yourself?

Don't worry if you drop it. You can get a whole set of new fairings for about $300.
make sure you use quality 2 stroke oil, the $30/L castrol 2t racing stuff.
Definitely get the TYGA rearsets if you ever want to take this bike to some hills, stock pegs don't have enough ground clearance

If it's an NSR you're after then yeah that's a good deal. The exhaust itself is generally around $800 to get here and it looks like it has the more expensive Stainless version.

If you need an ID check: the aftermarket parts will not pass
Otherwise it should be fine, they're not much louder than the stock pipes until they hit power
>>
>>16665336
To qualify as a LAMS motorcycle, the vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:

> the motorcycle must be in a standard form as produced by the manufacturer;
> not modified in a way that increases its power mass ratio;
> have a power-to-weight ratio of 150 kilowatts per tonne or less; and
an engine capacity of 660cc or less.
