Yeah it shouldnt be a yuge deal, but for future reference they're a couple cents online and you can buy them in packs of like 30 so you can always have them on hand from now on.
I wouldnt worry about it this time though, just put it back in.
Also a tip for your oil filter, stab a screwdriver thru it and use it for leverage to get the filter off.
Sometimes they're a pain to get off with channel locks

It depends.

A weekend rider, a road tripper, and a commuter all need different shit. Anyone with basic planning skills should be able to figure it out for themselves. Just get some pelican cases if you need more storage, and make sure you can fit a bungee net on the passenger seat

Also backpack strapped to seat > backpack on back

I always bring water, a disk lock and a bungee net in my top case, which also fits my helmet.

hows this for a first bike? old enough that maintenance should be simple-ish (and this bike will probably need a whole shitload of maintenance) and cheap enough that there's room in the budget for parts for said maintenance.

thoughts? im just looking for something to be sorta sporty, cheap, fun, easy to work on, and above all free to park at school

Some days ago I posted this shot of my exhaust, expressing concern about a probable blown head gasket. When pic related happened, the spark plugs were badly fouled and what you see is the second just after I let go of the gas, so no mixture should be sprayed in the crankcase at that moment (hence hinting coolant leak in the cylinder). The mechanic recarburated the bike and says it runs fine to him. If the smoke is gone with recarburation and new spark plugs, what could the white smoke (coming from only one of the two cylinders) be?

>more power
DR has power in the same neighborhood as the rest of the bikes mentioned. Right around 30whp. Not enough delta to make any difference while dual sport riding.

>seat ergos
subjective and everyone that adventures on a bike tailors a bikes ergos to fit them anyway. Subjective and irrelevant.

>less maintenance
WRR has 3000 mile oil changes and 26,000 mile valve checks.
The DR has 3500 mile oil changes and needs valve checks every 6000 miles.
Even the DRZ has less maintenance with 3500 mile oil changes and 16,000 mile valve checks.
DR a shit.

>lives longer
Bullshit.
WRR and XRL are both proven easily 100,000+ mile bikes
DRZ might make it to 15,000 miles before seizing up but that doesn't have any bearing on the other two bikes.

>much better cooling
XRL doesnt overheat and the other bikes have superior water cooling. This is not a valid point.

>shorter for manlets
No one cares about manlets.
The DR has a low seat because it has shit ground clearance and has garbage suspension and only like 8" of suspension travel. Total shit.
>>
>>16622215
>>much better cooling
>XRL doesnt overheat and the other bikes have superior water cooling. This is not a valid point.
i wasnt talking about the others, the xrl does have heat problems in the bush since honda omitted the oil cooler that the 400 got for some reason.

>horsepower
yes there is a notable difference
the WRR is 26hp, the drz is 32 and the 650 is 36

>horsepower
Considering the weight differences between these bikes the power:weight is effectively the same. Right around 10-11lbs per hp.

A WRR makes ~27whp with a ready to ride weight of under 300lbs.
A DR makes ~36whp with a ready to ride weight of about 370lbs.

And this isn't even mentioning the weight advantage's effect on handling, braking, and offroad ability.

Don't get one of those small bikes (Grom/Z125) as a first/only bike. They are only useful as fuckaround bikes or scooter replacements.

Don't get a garbage 250/300cc """sportbike""". There is no point in buying a fully faired bike just to fuck it up. And there is no point in buying something so underpowered for no reason. You want somethign naked/semi-naked

Get a 650cc naked twin from whatever manufacturer tickles your pickle and invest in some good frame sliders.

Wrong.

There is effectively no practical difference in power to weight between the mentioned bikes. Certainly not enough of a difference to matter on a dual sport bike.

DR650 is shit. Deal with it.

why not a z300 or ninja 300? or their 250cc counterparts. made in japan and enough go to get you out of trouble around town, 125 would be so anaemic.
a 500-650cc twin would be even better as you'll be less likely to want to sell it in 6 months.
just my opinion desu senpai
>>
>>16622392
It's a dual sport, no one cares what the absolute mod potential is. If the bike can power out of anything offroad and cruise reasonable at highway speeds, it has enough power.

You want mod potential and horsepower, buy a literbike.

Fact remains that the WRR is a better dual sport than a DR. End of story.
>>
>>16622392

Pointless, if you want power buy a KTM 5xx EXC or a WR450. Get the power without the shit suspension of landwhale weight of the DR.

If you want a street legal but capable out of the box DS the WR is better than the DR.

A valid way to shift. You're using the rev limiter in the same way a quick shifter would operate.

Still you don't want to be running into overrev in every gear. It's slower and more wear on your motor.

Do the same thing but slightly grab the clutch for a fraction of a second to shift to the next gear at the appropriate shift rpm. Same effect but you're not into the overrev.

you're likely losing acceleration if you're taking any stock tune to redline, not always but most bikes peter out before fuel cut.

just preload, clutchless shift and whip the throttle off and on quick with your hand, practice it.

But smoother, more comfortable, and with about 10 more horsepower.

But much more expensive to drop.
>>
>>16622477
well this either does cut throttle a bit, by bouncing up and down against the rev limiter, or you are hard shifting, like mx riders do, which is even rougher on the transmission. i'd say just use the clutch, that's what it's for, and it doesn't have to slow your shifts if youre good at it.

Very informative thank you.

Whats the hand signal for "I've shit myself please pull over so I can clear the solids from my pants"?
>>
>>16622757
One hand on the grab bar, one hand around rider's waist. Hold onto rider for acceleration, onto bar for braking. If you're braking really hard put your front hand onto the tank and dig your knees into their waist. Do not slide into the rider or you'll push them up the tank, knees into waist keep the rider down in the seat.
>>
>>16622773
Dont project your life onto me. It would be bad if more people crash on bikes liek you m8.

Yes
>>
>>16620669
But thats not really supercharging, it's more like making up for fuel losses. And it's fixed for a certain rpm and then adjusted to other rpm ranges through the power valve.
>>
>>16622752
It really depends on your bike. If you have a low COG sportbike it somehow helps to stand a little and countershift your weight between pegs. I don't know why, but it does.
>>
>>16622808
>take mirrors off
>keep stalk blinkers

Lol wut
>>
>>16622752
>>16622880
to be clear you shift your weight OPPOSITE of the direction of the bike lean.

You don't have to stand up to do this, just whatever way you can more effectively balance the bike at low speeds with yourself upright and the bike leaned over.
