When I got it, I took it to a shop to have an overlook on it, they changed the fluids, said everything else was good, gave me the good to go

>still sputtering, riding around on freeway and I notice it starts running hot, granted it's warm out but still around 210-220
>pullover to let it cool off, let it drop to 160, hop back on
>about an hour later I hear this God awful knocking sound from the front end of the bike

>makes me cry because I know it's not good
>checked oil, oil level is fine
>get home, drain oil, no metal shavings

The knocking happened as I was pulling up to my friends house luckily, so I immediately shut the bike off, so I dont know if it was speeding up as the motor was. It sat for about 5 hours, when I started it back up it was gone, I rode it back home after that, no issues besides the sputtering, haven't ridden it since

Clutch biting slightly would eat up power at lower rpm you would feel it.

If your Air Cleaner is coated in shit it eats power power.

When my KLRs Air Cleans was dirty it was sluggish and then started losing all power at 5000 rpm for half a second.

What kind of knock was it? A constant one? One only at certain rpms or speed? Did it happen was you were slowing down or speeding up?

Sputtering could be a spark issue (plugs, wires, coils) or a fuel issue (fuel filter, pump, injectors) or even a cam chain tension issue (cam chain tensioner)

As for the knock, you need to locate where it's coming from. Start the bike and listen. Locate if the knock is coming from the valvetrain, the bottom end, or somewhere else. Is it only when the bike is moving or can you recreate it when stationary in neutral?

If that's the case I would definitely order a manual cam chain tensioner. That's the most likely culprit. The automatic oil pressure tensioners are a known failure point on pretty much every modern sport bike as miles increase. Manual tensioners cannot fail.

Inconsistent cam chain tension can result in rough running, knocking sounds (as the chain guide and chain flop around under no tension), and even skipping cam teeth/valve contact due to lack of tension.

When you're at higher rpm there is more oil pressure so that's likely why its happening at low rpm and while idling.

The noise should be coming from the right side of the motor.
