Race replicas are one thing. Same though I'm a shoei fit but wish so bad I could rock some of the hayden reps. Running through marquez indy rf1200 now. I actually trailered my bike from ga to indy to go to my one and only moto gp and last atime indy when marquez debuted the design. And i started watching full time Marc's first year so it's kinda sentimental though I ride a Yamaha. I'd my was shit for gp though. Crap town and the infield was obviously a total afterthought at the oval. Crap spectating. Wish they still raced at laguna and I could make the trip though Austin looks like it would be a fun vaca

toni elias is my favourite story of 2016

>had no idea what the fuck he was doing / going absolutely nowhere in europe
>hey why don't you come fill in for an injured guy in motoamerica? (how did this even get arranged)
>sure why not
>won 3 races on the trot on and outdated bike and got a full time ride
>fans love him
>came second in the superprestigio

and he just seems so damn happy because of it.
>>
>>16508824
gsxr is a bit outdated but it has a great engine and handles easily
>>
I think he's done alot for the motoamerica series that it probably really needed. Let the euros know they can be competitive here while giving us manufacturer and international attn. That guy from Aprilia started doing really well and they actually started giving him some factory support.
>>
>>16508832
Not this year. Hope m4 suzuki can bring it to graves Yamaha with the new bikes.
>>
>>16508832
I think they have a good team more than anything else, I was talking to an ex endurance racer at the track who rode for SERT suzuki one of the years they won le mans, I said the bike is a bit outdated now how come they keep winning every time and he said the team principal of SERT suzuki is the most forceful and driven man he's ever seen, he runs it like an ultra organized dictator and because of that, things never go wrong.

The bike and the rider are only part of the equation in racing.
>>
>>16508847
>he runs it like an ultra organized dictator and because of that, things never go wrong.
you think maybe that has something to do with the bike handling well?

I like rooting for the hardens and Tony really made things fun this year. Bought a suzuki shirt at the road atlanta race last year to support the boys. Suzuki was doing demos all weekend to which was nice. Rode a 16 gsxr1000 but didn't get a chance to even go over 7k on the shit ty paced group ride. Could tell that wave of power was building in there still though. It was the suzuki ecstar rep too!

>>
>>16508952
Spain is just the Capitol of racing currently and we are on opposite ends. Makes it very costly and sacrificial for riders. At least you have someone representing you. I can't see an American in gp in the near future. Jack's a fun guy at least and gets on well with the brits.

I certainly like Aprilia but the 2008 t1 for example made prob 50 more hp 10 more tqs and by nature a SS is going to be quicker than a naked. My 03 zed 1000 was more comparable and it wouldn't even hold a candle in speed to even a 600SS.

hurdur

>>
>>16509122
We'll you didn't say aesthetically dick slap still the Aprilia looks old and cobbled as fuck and every bike of 3 I've owned has been a naked.
>>
>>16509130
unless i was buying a track bike, i'd take that aprilia over some meh japanese supersport 10/10 times
>>
>>16509122
Even if we are comparing 2008 naked only bikes the Aprilia still falls behind in most categories I would say. It could be faster around a lap perhaps but that's like having the fastest hybrid around the burger ring. We are talking about nakeds. All I care about is comfy wheelies in that segment.
>>
>>16509113
i also have an 04 z1000 btw, it has a few engine mods, will easily pull on a 600 in the straights but obviously it's pretty heavy and tube frame so in the corners it's not great (even with zx6r suspension)
>>
>>16509135
So in 08 we prob had what..the z1000 the street triple a Buell xb12 or maybe the Rotax one? 1190CR or something? And perhaps a ktm duke of sorts or the fz1.again you are getting with Aprilia the most expensive least comfortable couch. If I wanna go fast around a track I'm not buying comfy I'm buying something for the track. Exactly why no one's riding them. The dealer support just makes the argument worse.

>>16509155
I loved my zed. Have an fz09 now. 0-100 the zed wins on a 600SS but after that it's lights out. We won't even get into theach twisty bits where a SS would disappear.I like to think of the zed as a sort of muscle bike. I think the FZ would similarly own the zed 0-100 but would then dissapear as the fz tops out 130ish but sitting on the zed now feels like a straight SS vs the fz seating position. Really fun contrast forb2 bikes that look like the same category on paper. Also the zedS suspension was considered garbage at the time while now it feels vastly superior to even the FZs 13 fucking year newer susoension. I really miss it at times but that 09 is a fucking powerhouse. Can't beat that motor.

>>

Honestly I'd say get a car first, but where you live plays a big part.
>>
>>16509669
A motorcycle might be easier because you can just push a lightweight shitbike around to places you can legally practice and learn to ride at before you learn the rules of the road

If you start with a car you need someone to teach you, some free land, or the willpower and skill needed to illegally drive yourself around.

However, where you live might not let you get any license unless you can drive a car (lolmerica)

I shift to 6th pretty much as soon as I can. Typically that means holding 1st or 2nd for a second then pounding up to sixth.

Does get annoying having to pound down 5 gears to come to a stop though

Bike is too loud to ride around town in any gear other than sixth for a significant amount of time.

Such is life with a close ratio gearbox and a 16,000rpm redline.

First gear will take me to 85-90mph. But really only need to rev it to 5-6krpm in second then park it in sixth to cruise around. Anything over 8krpm is pretty rediculous on the street sound wise.

On the highway it's sitting at ~8,000rpm at ~75mph in sixth. Makes quite a racket.

If we all wanted something impractical we would be daily chopper threat
>>
>>16509896

>>
>>16510125
Nobody knows what practical means

Practical is a really tricked out R1200GS with as much storage space as a small car, crash-proofed everything, footpegs so grippy you can coat them in butter to preserve the finish, cruise control, heated grips, outlets for heated gear, accessory plugs, a GPS system where rally riders would normally put their roller map, and so on and so forth

"Practical" is a 50cc scooter with as much storage space as a sportbike with a backpack strapped to it, less suspension travel and ground clerance than a harley, less crash resistance than a paper bag, performance that's unusable even on some city roads, and as much instrumentation as a bicycle with a lackluster electrical system that probably couldn't even handle anything fancy in the first place.

The only practical part is that you have to learn one less thing to be able to ride it, and even then, honda is putting DCTs on everything, so scooters are just budget machines designed for 10mph commuting in SEA villages by riders who use coconut halves for helmets.

Nobike here, although I have about 20 hours on rental dirt bikes. Anyway I'm planning on taking an MSF course then buying a DR650 after I move, but I want you guys to be real with me, how dangerous is buying a motorcycle really?
I don't speed recklessly, am very careful, really only plan on doing it in relatively safe areas when on-road (tons of open straight lines where I'm moving), would never ride drunk, wear proper gear etc. Of course it's an inherently dangerous activity but I'd like some empirical and anecdotal evidence as opposed to Googling it which is fear-mongering nonsense abusing statistics vs. manchildren just yelling "pussy" at anybody who's not a squid

tldr: how dangerous is biking -really-
>>
>>16510520
It is as dangerous as you make it.
>>
>>16510520
About as much as you make it
It's full of 60somethings on scooters and adv bikes that have ridden since forever with no problem
A dr is quite tame

Just remember that being on a street is very different than being in the boonies

>>
>>16510531

>>16510520
The thing with biking is that if you're riding safely you have a whole different thought process going on than if you're in a car. During MSF they should teach you about scanning/prediction techniques. In a car you're less likely to notice that one guy entering the freeway who's about to cut across 4 lanes of traffic than you are on a bike because you're going to be paying attention for shit like that, seeing the cars "body" movement and predicting what it's gonna be doing.
>>
>>16510520
At first, it's as dangerous as you make it

then, it's as dangerous as other people make it. at that point, people either get into track days, deserted toegay runs after sighting out and having sentries posted for traffic (basically what happens at some more eleet meets), or plain jane boring and legal sightseeing riding on cruisers and advendurr bikes.

1. Assume you're invisible.
2. Assume everyone is trying to kill you. Especially when they're not.

DEFENSIVE driving skills are a must; you may find situations in which you have right of way but yielding it saves your life.
PAY ATTENTION and plan ahead, both in terms of your actions and those around you.

I've avoided being sideswiped by lanechangers thanks to noticing subtle "body" language. I've avoided becoming a red stain on the side of a boxtruck as it turned in front of me because I'd been watching it over the cars around me. I've fish-tailed to avoid rear-ending someone that pulled out in front of me. I've dodged deer that ran out into the road at the last second despite seeing and hearing me coming well in advance and being completely safe to cross several seconds prior to or after my arrival but nooooo they just had to cross as I got there and FUCK DEER SERIOUSLY THEY'RE SO FUCKING RETARDED.

Point is, motorcycling is more dangerous than driving a car because you're smaller/harder to see, less common and thus harder to see (not as expected/predicted), and don't have thousands of pounds of metal forming a protective bubble around you at all times. That said, it's still not nearly as dangerous as a lot of nobikez make it out to be and a little bit of skill and not riding like a twat will go a looooong way.
>>
>>16510520

>>
>>16510520
Let me red pill you on something. Motorcyclists get into more accidents because virtually ALL OF THEM ride recklessly. This is literally what it boils down to. Virtually ALL OF THEM SPEED OR HOON AROUND. This is why this shit happens. Assuming you aren't a retard, your actual risk of dangerous is quite low if you drive carefully and follow the law. But this is difficult to pull off for many people.

But it can be done.

You look at old Goldwings, old adventure bikes, old sport tourings, etc... and plenty of them have 100,000+ miles because the owners were autists that did everything by the book.

The issue is temptation, not a supposed inherent danger (which does exist but it's mainly limited to freak accidents, and lets be honest, how many of those have you seen IRL?)

M8 why not just get a used notified with more cc. You can get a decent Honda Shadow or ninja 250/500 or other standard for that price and having the added benefit of being able to go on highways and leave cities.
>>
>>16510823
>not a supposed inherent danger
Except for the inherent danger of not being surrounded by a cage, having air bags, seat belts etc. What would be a minor collision for a cager can be extremely serious for a motorcyclist. IIRC for my country motorcycle accidents were 50/50 for motorcycle or other driver at fault, so it's not just a case of if you ride smart you'll be fine.
>>
>>16511061
Yeah, me too m8. I had a 2005 KLR with 70,000 on it when I got wiped by a guy jumping the light.

Bought a another KLR 4 days later.

I have it for long distance commuting, think 45 minutes to an hour plus. Very comfy, good power but not the best. Top end needs work.

15-43 is fine for general purpose but 16-39 is best for cruising on the freeway at 120kms doing only 3850 rpm.

>>16511085

Do you have to be limited to 125? If not, then don't. You're better off buying a bike that still is slow as fuck, but can at least safely go on normal roads at normal speeds.

Don't be intimidated. Once you start riding, it will be effortless. I road a 125 for a month before I realized it pretty much only worked in town because I literally didn't have the power to go on full sized roads and be able to go any distance at a good speed.

FZ-07 is the better bike but the ergos (which are great for a normal-sized person) could be a bit too large for her. The ninja is a bit tighter when it comes to ergos so it could be the better choice.

Sit her tiny ass on a FZ-07, if she can reach the controls comfortably it's good. It's most likely too high, but for someone one and a half meter tall every motorcycle is. They can be lowered.

Let me fill you guys in on something. This happens for car drivers too but they can mitigate the crash because 1.) they aren't speeding and 2.) they can actually brake

It's not that motorcycle crashes occur more often by nature, it's that they are harder to mitigate at the moment it happens because of what I described above.

yes, there is a risk, yes people will turn out in front of you, but you're not going to kill yourself if you practice safe riding and don't ride a 900 lb cruiser that can't brake for shit

get a nice sport tourer or one of those sporty cruisers that have two front rotors
>>
>>16511196
that is retarded logic m8. there are plenty of solid jap 125s and 250s you can buy that will serve as a better segway than some retarded counterfeit chink grom. look at kawasaki eliminators, honda rebels, ninjas, etc
>>
>>16511317
>>16511334

You can easily lower almost any bike. You just have to add a link or two between the rear shock and the dogbone on the frame. It sounds pretty daunting for the not-so-mechanically-inclined but trust me I am a complete fucking retard and I managed to do it. Essentially you're reducing travel from the rear shock which brings the seat lower. There are also modified seats you can get that have a lot of foam/padding removed.

Or you can just look at cruisers which are literally 25 inch seat height
>>
Maybe this is worse in my town than others, but the most common motorcycle crash around here is some harley rider that drank too much and tried to sportbike on the way home
>>
>>16511415
Drinking and motorcycles are a hard combo to do right. Glad I don't do that anymore, and I highly recommend you don't either
>>
>>16511401
>they aren't speeding

Half the time, the speed limit is either set far too high to let anyone effectively mitigate a crash (go below it and be tailgated. inconvenient for the towhook equipped, deadly for motorcycles) or far too low to crash, but also far too low to give anyone a benefit over taking a train. We're pretty much fucked when it comes to speed on the roads.

The only hope for the road system is the stringent following of all rules to ensure predictability. If even one of those rules is not followed, the speed limit or proper fast-slow lane use, or indicating too early or too late, or forgetting the right of way, then you get a crash, because nobody was expecting anyone going 60 in the left lane, 70 in the right lane, and 40 on the on-ramp with the intent to then floor it and cut across every lane until they hit the left with their blinker constantly on - getting rear ended in the right and spinning across to the left to hit the dumbass pickup driver on the left who cared more about the speed limit than what people actually expect (with even the police doing 65 - in the middle lane)
>>
>>16511357

Speeding normally isn't a problem.

For cars. Because you can actually judge the speed of a larger object pretty well. Bikes need to do as california and have a dedicated speeding "lane" and little else. If you want to lean just make tighter turns at a regulat speed.

Skirt flapping in the wind is good tho.

They asked to look up my bike with animu. Literally the first results.

Glad I could give you a chuckle.
>>16511295
Nah, m8. But I really hope it doesn't effect my erections because I've booked an escort tonight.
>>
>>16511750
Upskirts are nice, sure, but if that boody ends up off the seat accidentally then I'd rather it slide unmolested to a stop. I also have a thing for women in leather and women in latex, so there's that.
>>
>>16511755
Don't you feel dead inside when you pay to fuck? I prefer to stay virgin.

I never really had a preference for hieght since im 6'2" (i think im just a tad shorter than you) but being able to pick her up easily is the best.
Her riding pillon is like having a large bag on my back.

So 5' and 105lbs
Sounds like a catch, im guessing butterface?

>>
>>16512138
so let's say I want a fuckhueg cruiser for long comfy trips, for cheap

recommendations? I see a lot of pic related on Craigslist for <5k, but not sure if this is a warning sign or an opportunity
>>
>>16512167
Shaft drive is nice.
Michigan winters are not.
>>
>>16512181
Homestly cruisers suck for comfort. Sure the seats are nice and position is ok. But there is no rear travel. Every bump is harsh. Adv bikes and standards are much more comfy with a nice seat.
>>16512189
Funny, im here more often when i cant ride.
>>
>looking at bikes on gumtree
>selling it because I no longer can find the time to ride

what the fuck don't these people commute to work on them or do they literally use these things as expensive toys?
>>
>>16512215
It is just an expensive toy for some. Something they bring out of the garage once a month and scoot around busy areas for attention.
>>
>>16512138

>only riding once a month on a machine that is a lot more difficult to control than a car with a much higher chance of accident

literally retards

>>16512205
I dont usually like reading about / looking at motorcycles when I cant ride. Makes me a bit sad.

>>16512215
Is your horizon so limited you can't fathom people may enjoy bikes differently?
>>
>>16511794
It's more like the opposite.
>>
>>16512285
Not for me.
>>
My chain is making weird whirry clicky noises when I put the bike in neutral and rotate the rear wheel (on centre stand).

I recently cleaned it and put a load of dry wax lube on it.

Did I fuck it up?

GUYS HELP ME DECIDE WHICH BIKE TO GET

Kawasaki Versys 650
Suzuki V Strom 650
Honda NC700X
Yamaha Tracer 700
BMW r800gs
Triumph Tiger 800

>>16512311
I know, I can't stand physical contact when there's no intimacy.
>>
>>16512167
Shaft drive is max comfy. Mine should be pretty maintenance free once I get it going due to the hydraulic valves and a freshly rebuilt set of carbs.
>>
>>16512324
Tigers are awesome. That's my vote.

That's called sex. You can have sex without intimacy.

No need to thank me for clearing that up for you.

Best:
Suzuki V Strom 650

Next:
Kawasaki Versys 650

Ok:
Honda NC700X
Yamaha Tracer 700

Fucking expensive to run:
BMW r800gs
Triumph Tiger 800

It's easily faked. You'll realise that when you grow up and stop being a virgin.

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/57043/i/alpinestars-motegi-two-piece-leather-suit---2014--size-58-only-

Does this seem like a good buy? The only one left is in my size and an A*s suit for $600 seems like a pretty good deal even if it is the 2014 version.
