>1-N-2-X
Makes sense for a safety measue. Need to get going quickly? Mash down as fast as you can and you will be in first. If you want to upshift fast with N-1-2-X you may end up staying in N or overshooting to 2nd/3rd and stall, not moving at all.

>not N-1-2-X with a neutral lockout mechanism
You don't need neutral when you're moving. It's purely for standing still. If you need to disengage the power from the rear at any point the key word here is clutch.

>GP shift is almost never a factory option
Makes sense to have a standard in the industry. And for the minority that want the GP-shift pattern there are tons of aftermarket possibilities. A motorcycle with GP-pattern is just likely to sit around because no one buys a GP pattern bike to convert it to standard. Not worth the effort for like 0.01% of target audience.

UJM appreciation post. Shoutout to all the UJM owners ITT, yea u know what's good. The benefit of a UJM is just how subtle it is. You know why? A motorcycle is only good if it gets ridden.
>Casual ride? Take the UJM.
>Exploring new roads? Take the UJM.
>Rainy day? Take the UJM.
>Long trip? Take the UJM.
>Going shopping? Take the UJM.
>Girlfriend wants to pillion? Take the UJM.
>Commuting? You guessed it, Take the UJM.

Six out of seven days of the week, the UJM gets ridden while the power ranger memebike gathers dust. Who honestly goes on every single ride with intent to scrape knee, and hit redline? Maybe someone with <2 years experience, full of high confidence but only shallow skillsets. Realistically these riders do not last long and thus we see the rapid sales turnover of supersports from model year to model year. However, whilst those riders are in ER/buying ebay fairings/motovlogging/learning to wheelie/wrenching, the UJMs are quietly racking up enjoyable, unpretentious miles. UJMs are the most based class of bike. Enjoy setting the desmo valvetrain on your italian shitbike. Enjoy your micropenis harleyfags. Enjoy paul walkering yourself power rangers. UJM is love, UJM is life. I'm out.

Hi there!

You seem to have made a bit of a mistake in your post. Luckily, the users of 4chan are always willing to help you clear this problem right up! You appear to have used a tripcode when posting, but your identity has nothing at all to do with the conversation! Whoops! You should always remember to stop using your tripcode when the thread it was used for is gone, unless another one is started! Posting with a tripcode when it isn't necessary is poor form. You should always try to post anonymously, unless your identity is absolutely vital to the post that you're making!

Now, there's no need to thank me - I'm just doing my bit to help you get used to the anonymous image-board culture!

Haven't seen any new "cool" cars pop up since he wrecked the Cobalt. There's been a white Subaru Outback and a new Camaro zl1but I doubt that's his.

I can't decide whether to get an SV650S or an '05 or '06 zx6r, or maybe whether to look at less sporty bikes. I intend to do a fair amount of track days (Already one booked in March). Maybe a bit of touring too. Opinions? Ideally want to spend around £2000 - £2500.

>Really old
>80's
>fuck you bro, seriously...

1.Everything was standardized well before then so pretty much just like riding a modern bike.

2.If you maintain it properly, no. Some of the very early electronics tend to shit out and you have to get inventive.

3.The frames and brakes are generally not up to par with modern bikes. This one you can feel flex a little bit on bumps in corners.

4.It gets about 45 mpg

5.Plugs and oil every 3K. Valve clearances every 15k. Forks and head about every 10K.
>>
>>16439927
if anything it's way simpler to work on and maintain. serivce intervals are normal.

with 80s bikes you may want to look at an engine overhaul but other than that they're simple and underpowered for their displacement so they're not less reliable than todays bikes.

Keksimus maximus. What's it like? It's awesome. They're somewhat less refined in some aspects, I think I could write a long 2 piece post about it, but it's not like anyone cares. They do the same things as new bikes do, they are only coarser in some regards. They are better in others, too.

Hi, from Bolzano, I used to live in Milan, I've "studied" there for 2 years.

First thing does anyone in your family have a bike or scooter? You can get a pretty big discount on the insurance if you do. I had to pay like €800 for my first bike but since my father has a 150cc scooter I pay €300.

It's loud. Almost obnoxiously so. On the plus side it's very light and visually small.
The build quality is top-notch, it looks great, can't say anything about ease of mounting though as the PO did that.
Overall I'd recommend them if you want something noisy. If on the other hand you just want a decent sounding but more subtle exhaust, go with Akra.

There was no hard standard until US laws forced the layout you see today for no particular reason and it was adopted elsewhere.

Pressing down gives more positive upshifts so it's more logical but not popular because people hate learning. Conversion shift drums are made by Baker for Harleys.

I had no trouble with three different shift patterns/two different lever locations when I daily'ed a Triumph, a Norton and a Suzuki.

Automatically not worth the money unless a Harley (plentiful parts forever) or dirt bike (easy and only one cylinder).

There are plenty of 1980s bikes with low mileage out there. If you are in the US I wouldn't overhaul most worn out Jap bike engines and I enjoy doing it. It's rarely cost-effective. For similar money, buy later running bike and enjoy.

Bring a compression gauge, check all cylinders cold, eyeball spark plugs to check for oil.

You could write a fucking essay explaining the differences between each and every little engine configuration. In general TORKS while being very narrow, more specifically
-american: 45° boat anchors that misfire more often than not
-jap: low revving, easy power delivery, reliable
-italian: 90 or 65° screaming monsters, finnicky, abrupt power delivery, beautiful torque curve, prone to running hot

Tossing up getting full system or not. I don't want it to be obnoxious. The intake on this is ridiculously loud, but the cat converter is HUGE and I'd love to see it go.

Mainly getting one to slim the looks down, like how I had to remove the awful rear fender. It's a pain that there's so much you have to replace straight away when buying a new bike

>>16442059
visually slimming, reasonable noise and decatting all at once will be tough, the cat sucks out a lot of noise so if you decat (which imo you're not getting your moneys worth out of your purchase if you don't) you'll need a bigger longer muffler to keep it sounding right.

I guess it's just the choice between $500 bucks to get a niceish sound and some visual weight off or $1500-2000 to get the performance the bike is capable of.

Power wise I'm rather happy with it, I don't know know if I'd be happy spending over a thousand for a little bit of gains.

I occasionally commute to work on it, but 90% of the time I ride it for fun. I don't want to piss off all my neighbours at 6am while i let it warm up with a full system.

I like the looks of the small (think it's called shorty?) M4 exhaust. I doubt it will be much louder at all running off the cat. But visually it would be better, but most likely I'll import a knock off from China since they're 1/4 the price and all the parts I've imported so far have been the same quality.

I'm planning on selling it in 2 years when the warranty is up and would most likely bolt all the stock parts back on. I tend to like purchasing stock second hand bikes rather than modded ones, even though I'd be putting all the mods on for whatever reason.
>>
>>16442122
>I tend to like purchasing stock second hand bikes rather than modded ones, even though I'd be putting all the mods on for whatever reason.
I can understand that. You pretty much have to assume the person who attempted to install the mods was a retarded gorilla with nothing but an adjustable wrench and pliers. 90% of the work I've had to do to my used bikes is unfucking the previous owners' retardation.

Exactly that. Some of the things I've found on my old bikes made me really question some people.
>Exposed wires / shitty wiring
>One bike I got literally had 4 different spark plugs, wrong fuel pump (mind you it did to a degree work fine), one of the exhaust mounts that was hidden behind was made out of curtain railing. I didn't realise until a month after I brought it.
>Any advert I see that says "cool exhaust sounds aWEs0me" I instantly exit.

If I revert everything to stock and have the service history + sell off all the mods separately I probably will only lose a few grand after owning it 2 years which I'm fine with.

After I bought my CBR I realized the exhaust hanger was way too big for the muffler I have. I'm guessing someone replaced the big OEM can with the little one and didn't get a mount to go with it so he just king of put the original hanger on there even though it was way too big to be useful.
Desn't really hurt anything tho since it holds on well enough from the springs and clamp so whatever. I'll leave it like that until I get another stock exhaust.

Also my KLX came up with an aftermarket dash that was only halfway wired up and none of the indicators worked right.

Also half the dust seals on linkages and slide pins are damaged or gone.

Funnily enough the EXC is the cleanest bike I have ever bought from a craigslist seller, but it broke a compression ring a thousand miles later. I guess it was way overdue though since it had probably gone 40 times past the factory-specified service limit.

Looks like it has issues with corrosion on the left of the picture and there's likely enough taper wear in the bore that if it were mine I'd take it to a machinist and have him fit an oversize piston.

Best for most people is let the shop that bores your cylinder order the new piston just in case they find an area DURING the bore job that requires going further oversize.
>>
>>16442654
Replace fork oil and check headstock bearings.
>>
>>16442654
>Forks and heads every 10k?
No. Why would they? I've been working on 1980s bikes since they were new and top ends rarely have durability issues. Forks are just forks and don't wear any quicker than later forks.

Most deadbikes die of abandonment and neglect when owner gets married and his life is over. Next most common is wrecks.
>>
>>16444527
Yeah, fork oil should be replaced along with other fluids.

If the fork feels fine with no headstock play I'd not disturb it.
>>
I'm 6'5 or 196cm and was wondering which racing or naked bikes I would be comfortable on. Also it has to be a light bike (max 35kW), not a 1000ccm or something like that becuase of laws here. I have a derbi terra 125ccm, but thats because its the only bike I've ever been comfortable on. Now I obviously want something with a bit more power.
