Yes I am, but only because I have a fairly decent rig.

60 fps @ 1080p are a dream, the game is optimized like liquid shit, every time I enter an area with buildings I drop at like 50 fps and in a specific area called Surfer's paradise it's 40-45 fps time.

If you don't consider that the game delivers a lot of fun, personally I spend hours in the photo mode because muh aesthetics.

So, for a bit of a serious discussion here, for once, do you prefer AC's or rF2 handling, out of the more modern sims?

I don't quite like the so superior rF2 tyres, i feel like they have a bigger threshold to play with, but they reach it too fast, specially on bigger cars. It feels like, the smaller and stiffer the car, the closer it resembles what i imagine the car would handle like.
I'm talking mostly based on base setups, but i'd really like to hear from some guys here what are their preferences.

To fix this, go to your /rFactor/rFm/ folder and open "Ultimate_GT3.rfm"

4th line from the top, there is a line that says "SafetyCar = something"

Change that to

SafetyCar = 1_Ferrari_360.veh

And that's all. You can resume your preparations for Round 1 of OVGT3 Season 4.

Reasons why OP cars are good for mods:
They encourage diversity in driving style. Some OP carsare skewed towards turning, some towards acceleration, but the better ones are kinda joe average (glares at McLarens). There are many kinds of cars in this mod, fast in a straight line fat cars, cars with F1 grip, ones with good brakes etc. Some cars naturally fill some of these rolls better, although all can be driven as any of those. The more specialized a car is, the harder that driving style is to intuitively do well in, which leads many to believe these cars are underperforming. In reality, it can be argued that a car merely reveals the strengths and weaknesses of the person using it.
They encourage people to get their own of *insert OP car* here. This encourages people to practice, learn the track, and just get better at driving. Many cars I once though were OP, once I drove them I realized there were some drawbacks and I learned to incorporate that into my own counter strategies when I faced them in the future.
Now they're just a foe, to be respected for their capabilities, mind you, but not undefeatable. A lot of those top tens occurred in my head before we even entered the grid...
Everyone running around in the same car, or clones there of is really really boring. If every car is the same and some aren't stronger/weaker, then it's like the server during the Porsche floods. Very Meh gameplay that has no challenge to be overcome. Bad cars are typically a portal to work through to be rewarded with far more fun if you do good. Overcoming that adversity is part of the addictive nature of racing.
They're on open ended "cheat". Anyone can drive an OP car. Some people will continue to drive them very poorly (glares at Porsche and GTR drivers). This means their a low floor/high ceiling vehicle which rewards good driving, but still won't rescue every driver from their own mistakes.

I just bought beamng on this sale and I'm let down.
The modding scene is kinda garbage. Half of the mods I've downloaded don't work for one reason or another. Most mods are like 2 years old. The official mod repository won't allow licensed cars for some reason (hell even Gmod is OK with them). I don't think the devs will ever add multiplayer in. Car physics and collision are neat but the rest of the game feels uninspired, and the 100+ key bindings make it feel like a pain in the ass.

Should I get a refund? And if I do, what should I buy instead?
Or even better, does anyone know where the cool mods are at?

It sounds like you've either installed mods wrong or got them from the wrong places.
Make sure they go in /my documents/beamng/mods and are not unzipped.

Also get them from beamng.com/resources/ or the forums (for some broken wip stuff) but I don't know where you're looking if you can only find mods 2 years old.

it is a game that started life as a tech demo, so some of the fun is getting to fuck around with a video game that isn't completely done and mess with all the minutiae yourself. It's kind of like Linux. but with autistic slow-motion crash analysis instead of autistic network analysis

You will also need an imagination if you want goals. I usually just go for a drive and try to get as far as I can on the nearest road in the map driving as fast as possible. I've had the game since 2013 so it's been really fun to experience the physics improve in this way,

I think some of the templates from the GT3 mod are broken

I have a Fanatec CSR wheel (same as the Porsche wheels on the inside) and it feels weird in rFactor 1. It's set to 900 degrees and it feels like the car doesn't turn much with the first 90 degrees of the wheel. I touched all settings I thought that had to do something with the wheel but cannot figure it out. What settings do you guys run with a Fanatec wheel?

If you weren't here for some earlier mods, we had this issue with the BES mods. They final dimension of a template should be a power of two (2048x2048, 1024x1025, etc) but some of the templates "stretch." For cars like the BES Porsche, you had to paint the car in 3072 for the length and then resize it back to 2048x2048 for the DDS export.

The setup to run is pretty much default, the things I do are;
set rev limit to max, put brake duct and radiator values to lowest, put rear wing to 1 and change the rear anti roll bar if it under steers or oversteers
the setup will make hardly a difference here since it's so simple hence why it's pretty much default

Apologies for the issues you are experiencing. After checking the data, indeed it seems that BMW_M6_CHASSIS_LODC.GMT is missing. Our testing didn't catch that error due to the fact our PCs were built after 1999. We will look further into this, but for now please set the Player and Opponent Detail settings to "High" or "Max".

Regarding spindle errors we still have no idea why that happens as everything is correct in regards to the file itself and its instance. Sounds silly, but we recommend redownloading the mod >>>>from the doc<<<<< and installing it on a brand new fresh rFactor install in your HDDs root folder. Use the ultralite installer, apply the crack, apply the 4GB patch and then apply the nvidia fix.

Actually use them as analogue sticks and not digital inputs by smashing it all the way to either side.

Just be smooth and use small control deflections, dont flop it around like you would in GTA which has basically driving physics set up for easy keyboard control

In GTA you have a filter over your controller input so goint to max input doesnt equal immediately getting max output - with rFactor you get the input=output unless you mess with controller settings

I think aspirations has a decent setup for the controller that makes it a bit easier if you ask him
