Would it be a bad idea to go from a 125 straight to a 1200?

There's a 2nd hand R1200GS near me going for just £3000. Has about 20,000 miles and a few scratches on the tank and boxes at the back.
>>
>>16355387
The 1200 is 1170cc and pretty tame, it would be a big step, mostly because of the massive weight and large amount of torque, but it should be doable.

Just look which year it is and which problems it might have (avoid pre 2008 completely I believe) before buying, as with all BMWs.

I wasn't talking about what PEOPLE were doing, I meant what happened to the production of those 80's kind of bikes and big singles. Yamaha had Tenere's and crazy shit like the 350cc Big Wheel, Suzuki had a DR750 and I think a DR800 Big. Honda doesn't have an XR650R anymore, just a lamer 650L. Suzuki has the DR650, Kawasaki has KLR650 but those aren't really the same as those 80's/early 90's bikes that were racing in Dakar or Baja whatever.

No but neither were the dual sports from the 80s. The dual sports then were cheap and lame just like they are now. The racing bikes back then were comparable to the dual sports we have now. Our modern racing bikes are fucking epic.

Also some manufacturers do offer street legal bikes that are actually race ready.

DR650 and most dual sports can be ridden a couple thousand miles before needing an oil change, and far more than that before needing valves or a new top end. The cost of this is weight and power
2 strokes are far better in the dirt but are useless for long rides.

k? The rider has way more of an affect on speed than the bike itself. I've outridden 450s on the trails and street on my DR-Z400S.

Also outridden supersports on the street on my DR-Z400S.

my 650 is stock, id consider us all to be average skill.
the drz is just a very mediocre bike for everything it does, but it lasts forever and takes a lot of abuse, and doesnt have the stigma of being an airhead so its a popular entry level bike

I ride a 300 and I only got off of a criminal reckless driving charge because the cop thought my bike could out run his cruiser lol

Here cops cut street bike riders a huge break when they stop since the cops know most riders can just disappear into the night.

KTM's simply break the triple clamps due to having such excessively strong frame designs where japanese bikes would have snapped below the fuel tank.

I trying to decide what camera I should get for my bike... It needs to be powered by the bike so I never have to remove it. I might get 2 for front and back. And it must write over oldest data when memory Is full. I've been searching online and there isn't much info on anything out there. Give me All your recommendations.

Post some KTM's breaking triple clamps and prove my point then because that seems to be about 95% of supposed ktm failures.

AIright bros.

I can get a pair of Warp9's (top pic) for ~$875 shipped or I can get a pair of no-name ebay specials (bottom pic) for about $630 shipped.

Warp9's come with a sprocket (already have), SM fender (already have), and brake rotors (already have) but no spacers or bearings.

Ebay wheels come with all spacers and bearings but no fender, rotors, or sprocket.

Ebay wheels are not shipped from china, but from local shop in my area.

What do?

Backstory on this is the retard that did the conversion before me used hubs from who knows what bike and made a "custom" spacer with a piece of aluminum tube and a hacksaw to get it to fit together. One side of the hub has no bearing seal and the other side uses an OEM bearing seal that doesn't even seal to the hub.

The hub is too narrow and with the spacer it offsets the wheel about 1" to the right of where it should be. This causes all sorts of issues with the chain, namely the front and rear sprockets aren't aligned and the guy actually ran the rear wheel alignment with the wheel cocked to the left so the chain would stay on the rear sprocket.

When I bought the bike I just thought the chain was loose. When I went to go loosen the axle nut to tighten it I realized the axle and nut were almost completely stripped, and the nut was put on backwards so it would barely hold with the threads that were left. The chain adjusters were also stripped to hell because he likely couldn't tighten down the axle enough to hold chain tension so he was trying to do it with the chain adjusters.

The rear end of this bike is literally a clusterfuck of jerry rigged parts and fucked up parts. I had no idea until I got it home and took it apart.

The front looks fine but if I'm going to do it I may as well get front and rear with hubs appropriate for my application.

Out there in the world being ridden.

I ride MX with the old man and his mates, which is handy because they're well-seasoned and I'm still trying to tame the 500. That is, I am prone to being dismounted when it's not yet time.

As for the road, I enjoy being alone. No pace to keep, nobody to continually check in mirrors to make sure they made the corners, etc. Always a little worried I'll lay her down and nobody will be across for hours but hey.

Yeah, stay on the 250 meme until you have some core strength. If you're putting weight on your wrists you're not riding a bike properly.

What does /dbt/ think of sport touring bikes?

I want somethign that I can go long distances on but I don't want to go full old-man bike or hurrly rider.

I've been looking at the Concourse 14 or a VFR

They're normally just set up for integration with OEM luggage systems, sprung too soft for hard riding, and layed out for better passenger comfort. They also tend to have more luxury shit piled on as dealer options and beefier fairings for more wind protection.

If you dont give a fuck about passengers, aren't buying new from a dealer, or can't find an optioned out one on the used market, there's no reason not to just get a regular sportbike and slap some comfort-oriented aftermarket and new luggage fittings on it because it'll be the same thing
