I had a 90cc Baja dirt runner when I was like 11 years old. It was the biggest turd ever, I remember it literally couldn't get up a steepish rocky hill like 10 metres long. Tried running at it WoT in 3rd gear and shifting down right at the base for torque but there was no chance.

Never had mechanical issues and it was fine for putting around on logging roads though.
>>
>>16289315
>>16289307
Additionally, the single most objectively definable thing about the male body is that women prefer a high shoulder to waist ratio. Wide shoulders + thin waist/hips = attractive V taper. Wide shoulders, wise waist/hips or thin waist and wide hips makes you fridge mode or feminine hourglass which is less desirable.

Is there any reason not to buy a 20-year old bike? I'm not interested in resale value, and I'm aware of the existing possible issues (speedo cable, throttle slide holders) that the bike model is known to have, but it seems perfectly fine.

The frame for the 690 and 701 are more street bike derived than dirt bike. Engine hanging out the bottom, trellis design instead of a twin spar aluminum frame. It's almost like they designed it around the 690SMC which may be the case

I got no idea. It was on the bike when I got it. It has that big bulge in the header so I figured it was the whole powerbomb/poowercore or whatever it's called system. I don't particularly like the way it sounds and it's somewhere between stock and MRD (basically a small perforated, straight-through muffler) noise levels. I've ridden a bike with the MRD pipe and it didn't seem any more powerful than mine. I've also ridden one with the stock pipe that seemed just barely any slower.

If you want to really improve the bike beyond "muh noise" I suggest you spend the money on a Keihin FCR carb instead of exhaust. Freeing up the intake can help power quite a bit and everybody claims the throttle response is 100x better when you get rid of the shitty CV carb.
>>
>>16290657
He's either being sarcastic, or he means that when KTM introduced the frame to like 5 different bikes, they designed it specifically for the SMC, rather than the duke, but prolly the former

doing both of these at the same time. just need the cash for the pipes and misc parts for the carb. i guess i'll just get the pc4 cause it's cheaper.
if you want a bit less throttle twist, check out the zip tie mod. i mentioned it here before. basically just gluing a ziptie to your throttle tube to widen it. i glued 2 and they've been on there and working well for about 3 months.

see I don't know of any twin spar KTM frames either, their dirt bikes are usually what you'd call a double steel cradle.

Twin spar dirt bike frames would be like what all the japanese 450s have now. Still has a cradle under the engine but 2 aluminum frames going around the perimeter of the bike instead of a spine going directly above the engine.

Modern KTMs are somewhere in between a traditional backbone and a twin spar. Its side tubes move up most of the way to the steering head but don't go all the way around the perimeter.

Serious advice here

He's 16.
Do not buy him a street bike unless he has experience in dirt or is more interested in learning to ride well than just riding around. If it's the latter get him a 500 or 650.

If he has experience in dirt and is sort of good at it you can probably get him pretty much anything he can flat foot and blow through a parking lot test on.

So because a study is important, give them everything? I didn't pay my education, my parents did that (€1700/y in college), but anything that wasn't needed I needed to buy myself, with my own money, so I needed to work.
And working for something I wanted landed me a good paying and fun job.
>>
>>16291159
I don't ride motorcycles. My parents always said they weren't safe and I think I'm a little old to learn. He has dyslexia, ADHD but really it just means he doesn't like learning from books and makes him look a little slow to people who don't realise. >>16291193

>>
>>16291156
every motorcycle study that accounted for it has supported the hypothesis that dirt riders crash less

they get more intense practice doing pretty much everything integral to riding but leaning in an environment that tolerates crashes and allows riders to experiment and develop more confidence

dirt is the unofficial track day of all motorcyclists. i'm sure if every street rider started doing track days before commuting, the difference wouldn't exist, but they don't.
>>
>>16291204
I think it's mainly due to the fact that they don't panic when their tires of sliding since it's one of the first things you need to account for when riding a dirtsquirter

i imagine that because dirt riders dont have insurance or report the incident these numbers are not accurate. and you can "crash" your bike a million times in the dirt but one crash on road can total it
>>
>>16291222
if dirt riders had to report their crashes they would crash the most, because dirt, but on the street they either almost never crash or don't need to report it because unbreakable dual-sports

I see you're trying to disprove the fact that dirtbike riders crash less on the streets by saying they crash more on the dirt.
You're ignoring the simple fact that these stats come from Street-only riders vs street with dirt backround on the street.
The case did not take into account offroad incidents because that was not what was being studied. I hope you understand. You're almost trying to say that street-only riders are better rider as a whole, which is exactly what the case disproves.

I have a dullish, reliable motorcycle I like. I've tried a few better, bigger, more energetic ones and I feel the need to dump mine to get one. Something like the Honda X11, or maybe even the Suzuki B-King. They might be too much for everyday, mostly city use. Maybe I could keep my dull one for mostly everyday use and have a fun one for weekend/evening enjoyment.

Anyone had similar experiences? Did you regret getting a bigger bike? Does anyone have more than one, one as a daily and one for fun times? Should I just get something intermediate that I can use both for fun and daily ride, like a z750 or something like that?
