Yeah I've been slowly researching it for about 6 months now and working out my route. He has to use the europe tickets in the next 6 months or so before they expire.
>>
>>16291510
Nice saying, but it's not true.

Some bikes can't do much even with a good rider.
Some bikes perform the same as others but get uncomfortable fast, or aren't practical even for beer runs
Some bikes might not even be worth riding outside of a kart track that's 90% turns, or riding outside their "class"

Ever looked at a bike and thought "goddamn, this looks like shit, there's a big crouched-over human shaped void in the contours"?

That's because they're designed to be ridden. If you put a rider on the bike all the ugly melts away and it's just a regular bike, only with a bigger tank and more "cradling" seat than it would have if it were a little more 'aesthetic' and car-like in appearance.

What oil does /dbt/ use and what will be best for my bike?

>>
>>16291694
if you're leaning with the bike, you should have a 1/2 inch on each side that's not used. Tires aren't made to be ridden right on the walls, that gives you less traction.

It's people that are crossed up that have small strips because they need to lean the bike more to make the corner to make up for their shitty positioning.
>>
>>16291677
Any 10w-40. Currently using car oil.
>>
>>16291703
You can't lean properly with shit body position.
>>
>>16291703
You can scrape peg whether you're inline with the bike or leaning off.

The only time leaning wrong will EVER force you to lean the bike more to corner the same as sitting in-line is if you scoot off to the RIGHT side of the bike while turning LEFT. If you're doing that then you probably shouldn't be alive anyway.

look at the riders and then look at the lean angle of the bike. Having a worse body position increases the lean angle.

Comparing chicken strips without looking at riders is really, really dumb.
>>
>>16291722
The fact that they lean "too much" explains jack shit why you have a fat chicken strip. You can lean without the bike, the bike can't lean without you.
>>
>>16291727
They not leaning too much you idiot. You have shitty reading comprehension if that's what you got out of what I said.

The fact this needs to be explained is terrifying. Please do everybody a favour and get back in the car.
>>
>>16291722
That means nothing though? Even though the guy on the right is crossed up the bike is still leaning less than if he were to be riding in-line with the bike.

That said, actually leaning off doesn't decrease your maximum lean angle, so having chicken strips burned off is technically proven to be EASIER in the twisties.

So congratulations, you've made yourself seem like an even shittier rider than I already implied you were.
>>
>>16291734
>Even though the guy on the right is crossed up the bike is still leaning less than if he were to be riding in-line with the bike.
That's not how physics and fulcrums work.

Leaning off of or with the bike lowers your center of gravity so you don't need to lean the bike as much. Being crossed up and just leaning the bike is a good way to lowside when you run out of grip.

And you haven't even seen my 'chicken strips' which you put so much of an emphasis on.
>>
>>16291333
>don't lean

strips can vary from tyre to tyre but my dude, having no strips does not mean it can't lean any further, under high pressure tyres deform and squash. Hell I'm a scrub and I can make them do it, zoom in and check the back wheel.

Tyres tend to bend over at their edge, wider tyres in particular do this a lot more so on 180,190, 200 tyres grinding off the strips really doesn't mean you're at like MAX lean angle, with that being said I still have maybe 5mm or so of strips left on these tyres so once again this is a tyre to tyre thing.

You could probably just swap the actual peg out. Shilling for Sato pegs. Fuckers are absurdly grippy. They make the stock rearsets feel like polished metal covered in oil.

>Shifting feels NICE though
iktfb. My fucking shifter throw was cut down to about 1/4 of what it used to be, and it's so crisp and direct feeling now.

Plus all I have to do is move a linkage and I can un-reverse the shifter.
>>
>>16291826
peg feelers are there so they touch down before something nastier like a pipe or a kickstand touches down. I took my peg feelers off and bang, hit the kickstand down on bump through a big left hander.

>If the bike you're riding doesn't do that then it's a shitbike not made for cornering

I would say the opposite, peg feelers designed to limit lean angle for your tyres (even though they have no idea what tyres you are running) would be a fixture on bikes that are not designed with track work and lean angles in mind rather than the other way around.

The CBR500R for example has truly ridiculous peg feelers that jut in way before any offending hard parts could.

>>16291843
Yeah that's what I'm looking at doing, I want some that kind of bend off but stay knurled around the edge like tom sykes, I have reasonably big feet so it's hard to keep them all internal on the pegs with the smaller racier rearsets.

YEAR, MAKE, MODEL is apparently secret, but if you, holy fuck, used a search engine you could find out what weight the manufacturer (the people who built the fucking thing) recommends and use that. Weight may also be on oil cap etc.

Engines are pretty tolerant so if you are too retarded to locate an owner's manual or a service manual, the mechanic's recommendation is as good as any and ten forty isn't likely to hurt anything.

PSA:
Factory service manual, get one even if you aren't a mechanic. You can often find them for download. Carl Salter site is free and has a variety. Clymer/Chilton/Haynes a second choice.
>>
should my next bike be FI or CARB'd

what are the trade offs among the two?
>>
>>16292252
Carbs are carbs, a bit more finicky than FI. FI gives you that reliability* with more fuel efficiency.

But this is what I've heard from dbt so maybe someone else can do better.
>>
>>16292252
Carb pros:
>adjustable with screwdrivers

Carb cons:
>need regular maintenance
>finicky in less-than-ideal conditions
>less fuel efficient

FI pros:
>can be adjusted with software
>if it works, it just werks in most conditions
>largely maintenance-free

FI cons:
>shit throttle response in stock tune on many bikes
>bitch to fix if broken
>>
>>16291826
Supermoto, shiggy diggy.
>>
>>16292265
If you don't let your ride turn into a yard ornament I call it a wash. Carbs are nearly free to tune, EFI less so but has better low end and idle fuel management. You can stick injectors if you leave a vehicle sitting long enough, but that's dumb for many reasons. Clean carbs are highly reliable but dumbasses let them varnish when storing their bike then sadness ensues. EFI cold start is much less fiddly than carbs.

If buying new you may as well get EFI since bike will get sold before wiring and component age becomes an issue. Exceptions would be trail bikes or other very low end rides where simplicity and low cost trumps everything else.

EFI done right compensates for altitude changes automatically. Carbs require manual adjustment.

EFI parts do wear out but most newbike owners will not keep their ride long enough to wear out a fuel pump.

>>

>>
>>16292360
Humidity makes ethanol shit fuel deteriorate no matter what you run, but carb fuel bowls leave fuel a place to stagnate with the jets immersed in the fuel while EFI injectors are pressurized and blown clean by fuel pump pressure.

If storing, drain carbs. If riding, you solve the stagnation problem by not stagnating for long.

The 250/300 is a fucking single. Don't bother.

The 500 is a twin, like the kawasaki ninja 500. It's like a single except the vibrations are of a higher frequency and it has a little more go and a larger rev range.

The 600 will not be your death. It will be your death if you never look at your speedo or try to keep a cap on your speed and never go practice in a parking lot, but if you're not an idiot, you will not only do fine, but learn to git gud. You don't need a 250 to learn to corner if you actually want to learn to corner. The internet is like a lawyer and gives generic advice to an imaginary lowest common denonimator like they're going to be sued when someone kills themselves.

All motorcycles are dangerous. All sportbikes, regardless of displacement, are also dangerous, and the CBR250 can break most city speed limits with a quick twist of the throttle in second gear. Add that kind of speed to a winding road or track day and you might be kept out of trouble, but add it to stop lights, traffic calming corners and tight roundabouts meant to be taken slowly, and unpredictable traffic and you won't. Upgrade to the 600 and you'll just gain the ability to get even a skilled rider in trouble on a track.
>>
>>16293533

but I was told that inexperienced riders will get rekt on the twisties if they are on a 600

Well in NZD seconds hand gsxr750 goes for around 11k with 30,000ks. New ones are usually 18, but was on special for 15k. Mechanical warranty is 2 years plus knowing its never been trashed made it seem worth it. Plus if I brought a second hand one I'd most likely replace tyres, oil, chain, sprockets etc which would be 1000$. Mechanical warranty for 2 years would cost 2k for 2 years. So 2,000 difference made it seem worth it to me.

It's good to have an expert rider watch you and give you tips. I can't see any downsides. I don't think you understand how it works here. Driving schools won't teach you how to drive a car or ride a bike. They just tell you how to pass the exam.
For that you have to take a specialized course. I guess, I don't know.

>My intructor has to follow three people at a time and he will simply make you repeat the shit you have to do during the practical test, like the eight figure.

You're an idiot, the eight figure is not even in the practical exham anymore.
And they actually give you good tips, hot to properly use the brakes, when not to use them, body positioning for low speed manouvers etc etc.

>Total waste of time and money.
Did a total of three hours lessons for 60€, if it took you more you're kind of inept.
>>
Shouldn't threads about bikes belong on /n/ rather than /o/, since this board is about cars?

Forgive my ignorance.

No, because that is transportation. Bikes are not appliances to transport yourself with. Little scooters should go to /n/ though.
>>
>>16293845
Thanks. As I said, I'm pretty ignorant. But why does /n/ seem to have threads about motorbikes then? Seems like a topic that can fit on both boards.

>>16293852
So bikes are for sport?
Why should bikes belong on /o/ and small scooters on /n/?
>>
>>16293839
shouldn't manual-transmission vehicles be on /n/ since this board is called "auto" ?
>>
>>16293732
You're an idiot that has never ridden offroad or had a bike fall on your foot/leg. Good luck with a bike laying on your feet as you slide along the ground in sneakers.

because people buying little shitty scooters are doing it because they're poor and want to save gas. they ride them from A to B for the purpose of transportation only.

Lolno. He never said anything about that stuff. He actually wants me to have a neutral position while doing the eight figure and to keep my knees on the tank.

I learned here how to use the front and rear brake, he never mentioned it.

I'm not trolling. I'm honestly a guy who only took a first look at these two boards this week. I don't even own a bike, scooter or anything.

So is /dbt/ more about sport and show, rather than transportation?

>>16293876
Yes. Obviously we use them as transportation under the literal sense of the word but here we do it for fun and actually have an interest in bikes because we like bikes and not just because its a tool we can use to get around.

Then I'm sorry. In Brazil we also have a official test and you're obliged to go to "school". Results: We have more death in traffic than any other country in the world.

I thought you were talking about specialized school from the start, not obligatory of some sorts schools.
>>
>>16293880
Okay, thanks. In that case I don't assume this board is for me if I ever get a (small) bike.

why would you buy a bike because you "look cool" with it?
are you Elliot Rodger?
nigga bikes are as much of a transportation as cars, or even less, so if anything cars should go to /n/ since bikes don't have that much "practical use" according to normies.

damn I always wonder why americans/australians are allowed in these threads

they literally make it so much worse
>>
>>16293907
No, you misunderstood me. I was asking about the board culture. Read the rest of my post. If I ever get a bike it would only be as a use of transportation. I wouldn't care how it looks.

>scooter

don't do it.

they're actually harder to ride if you already can into manual transmissions. no tank to grip, no pegs to stand on, straight upright seat putting you in wind blast city, shitty boot that's less practical than panniers.

scooters are the budget option. if you can afford to buy and own a touring bike there is no reason to get a scooter.
unless your #1 hobby is fucking around on go-kart tracks (and getting smoked by 125cc shitbikes)
