The most obvious benefit of the DRZ is its ability to go from street to dirt effortlessly. Equipped with full-size off-road wheels and a long-travel suspension it's about as close to a legitimate dirt bike as you'll get for a street bike from a dealership. Slightly lighter than a Ninja 250 and with gobs more torque it's an absolute blast to ride around town. Potholes, curbs, gravel alleys... The DRZ confidently eats it all up and asks for seconds. When taken off-road the bike shines in a whole new way. It is fully capable of crossing rocky, two foot deep creeks, popping over large overturned tree trunks, or climbing steep and rutted single track trails in the mountains. Of course, being a dual-sport means that when you're done you can hop right back on the highway and head home.

For the most part the DRZ is very easy to work on. Plastics are sparse and most important components are easily accessible for quick trailside repair. The chain adjustment mechanism is the easiest to use I've seen personally and makes mistakes nearly impossible. Used and new replacement parts for repairs are plentiful and there is a huge amount of after market support for this motorcycle. Upgrades from third parties are available which fix the majority of this bike's few shortcomings. The DRZ has a long track record of reliability and is not known for leaving people stranded despite generally being ridden very hard.

While the DRZ400S configuration leans slightly more towards dirt-riding Suzuki also offers the DRZ400SM which is their supermoto package. This version leans more towards street riding with 17" spoked wheels, less ground clearance, inverted forks and slightly modified bodywork for a more aggressive look. Since both bikes were built upon the same platform bolt-on conversions between the two are easy and very popular

I've read the guide in the sticky and the website, and I do genuinely want to invest and start riding the motorcycle, but according to the guide, most riders ride a bike for the love of motorcycles

I only want to get one for convenience of saving gas and time, I'd only use it going to and from work, and I don't feel like I would be doing it for the right reasons

That being said, I actually enjoy driving and drove my sister's Hornet motorcycle, and loved it which prompted me to want to start learning

Would it be worth investing if I'd only use it casually to/from work, and using my car on weekends?

Got a big raise at work, wanna buy a new bike to replace the old shitbikes I've been tooling around on and turn the FZR600 into a track bike.

I want something up-right or more up-right at least, I know from the shitbikes I own that I at least want a windscreen, a center stand, and a luggage rack for throwing a bag or box on.

I just want a solid middle-lightweight commuter bike.

I've been looking at:

>Triumph Street Twin, 9.2k MSRP with stand, rack and windscreen.

>BMW G650 GS, 9.7k MSRP with stand, rack (built in), windscreen, lower suspension, bark busters.

>Yamaha FZ-07, 8k MSRP with, stand, rack and windscreen.

>Honda CB500X, 7.2k, with stand and rack (windscreen built in).

>Honda NC700X, 8k, with stand and rack (windscreen built in).

The BMW and the Triumph are the leaders so far in my heart, mainly the Triumph for just being a classic standard style bike.

The Yamaha I only included because so far I've only owned bikes that start with a Y so I wanted too look at them also.

The Honda's are the least enticing as I think the 500 is too slow/under powered and the 700 too pig fat.

Am I missing any candidates I could be looking at?

Are any of these grossly or horrendously under powered or terrible?

The longest trek I'd do by bike would be NYC-DC which is 4-5 hours, only on occasion so real touring comfort isn't a big deal.

no these things don't make you a good rider, getting your knee down is easy and there are ways to corner that will maximize your lean angle but will not be that fast.

your standards of "good rider" are far different from any normal person. You're considering nobody to be good unless they're a world class expert. Honestly just being able to drag knee isn't an end all criteria for good rider but it generally means you're past the babby rider mistakes like target fixating and running wide on a corner, or panic braking and locking up your wheels. To me that makes you a good or at least competent rider.

I think of being a good rider as more of a state of mind than anything else, a state of perpetual willingness to improve and practice actuated in order to make that happen. This can apply to any form of motorcycling, trials, motogymkhana, enduro etc.

It's why I think an ego about your riding skills is one of the worst things you can have as a rider (maybe not if you're a racer but that's a different kettle of fish) as you should never be too satisfied with how you ride.

Somebody can be riding 10 years and never get this message, while somebody who has been riding for 6 months can, that's why I don't consider experience all that important because there's good and bad experience.

The used market here sucks dick (Long Island), if I want to get somewhere with a good used market that means crossing two bridges which (I'm a little bitch) I'm not comfortable doing a new to me bike, doubly so on Else's someones used bike.

Breaking down on a narrow falling apart bridge like the Outer Bridge or Goethels Bridge is what nightmares are made of, and going direct through the city on a bike with temp reggo is a sure fire way to spend 3hrs at Precinct with the Orcs on stolen bikes.

The Rally Raid CB500X is cool but it cranks the price up.

The G series might fit me well then I'm about the size of an R series Rider's Wife (5'4", 110lbs).

It's nice but I don't have the money right now and it's outside my license.

It would still be slower than a stock wr450

Planning a trip from BC to Cali down the Pacific highway next year.
Anyone know a good route to take on the way back?
>>
>>16267646
It'd be about even, with way better maint intervals and still cheaper.

Find a flaw with the Aprilia SXV4.5 or 5.5

protip: you can't

>light for a mid-capacity, not too bad by sumo standards
>twin, good enough power for the highway unlike most motards
>torquey
>comes restricted for more controllable power, easy to derestrict for insane race-level power
>not look a shit

Is there anything wrong with this bike, apart from higher maintenance when completely derestricted?
