Nope, Ausfag. Aldi sells bike gear in August as spring comes in to get the best part of the riding season. My friend swears his life by their textile jackets, heavy but pretty comfy and plenty of protection and ventilation, might upgrade to their leathers next year when I don't have to wait until they discount the leftovers.

Just don't bother with the helmets, they're really cheap. Only helmet I've felt that was worse was Dririder's attempt and making a modular bike helmet. They should stick to jackets.
>>

Emissions
>>
>>16243228
true, drz is fun as fuck and good commuter, but its kinda lacking in terms of storage (obvs aftermarket is plentiful in that regard).

how about a non-sumo option? just for discussion sake
>>
>>16243239
i figured that would be the answer, but if governments truly gave a shit about emissions theyd be stricter about manufacturing industries, especially in china. id hazard motorcycles, even if everyone used one, dont contribute that badly to climate change
>>
>>16243241
commuter with storage capacity, hmm.. the best option is probably an adv bike. upright seat with plenty of room for a top box or strapping stuff to it. but you could add a top box to a naked bike and get similar results.

vstrom, versys, fj09.
>>
>>16243251
NC, obviously
>>
>>16243251
i like the look of the 600 adv's, and the storage doesnt actually make them look too crappy. will probably be the way i end up going to avoid having to struggle to find parts for an old bike.

im curious as to whether any other bike (non-scooter) has been made with built-in storage, though
>>
>>16243259
built in, other than a factory top box or saddlebags will be few and far between. storage in the body, be it a gas tank relocated to fit stuff where a normal tank woujld be, or a large tail box are very hard to find. dont count on built in storage to carry stuff while retaining the looks of your bike. you will almost surely need external storage.

it's a bit on the harder side to understand if you have worked 8 hours before that, but if you have a decent teacher and a vehicle where this teacher can show you what he means, then it's okay.
the thing is, to properly adjust it, you need at least three people (one who know how to adjust, one that weights the same as you (or is you) and one to lift the bike.

Give me a list of dual sport bikes that are
250cc-600cc
I know about the KLR 650, but it's in the next class of cc range, and my insurance company only goes by displacement and value. So there's a hard limit on 600ccs. Since the next class is 601cc-700cc.
>>
>>16244015
Because they didn't work very well when tried the first time with primitive fuel management systems. Piston engines are so refined today there is little point in tooling up for a rotary which would also have to be shoehorned into road race displacement classes.

Hey /dbt/ I'm looking for a dual sport that has to be
>between 397 and 399cc
>single cyl
>be under 330lb

Any suggestions?
>>
>>16244319
The DR-Z400 is objectively the best expert level dual sport bike.
> mileage
It's a mid-sized 4stroke single cylinder bike, so it gets at least 50mpg.
> handling
It handles nothing like a supersport. It it tall and light with a steering geometry set up to be very agile. This combined with the wide handlebars make it very easy to change directions.
> brakes
The brakes are designed for off-road and aren't so twitchy they will lock up easily on slick surfaces. They are completely acceptable but require a firm squeeze, yet with a larger diameter rotor upgrade like on the SM model you will find it taking no effort at all to slow down very quickly.
> power
When you're a good rider you don't need 100+ HP to pass everyone on the touge. Git gud faget.
> carbs
The CV carb found on the DR-Z helps calm down the twitchiness of a lightweight single.
> seating position
The tall seat combined with a completely upright seating position puts you high enough to see over all but the highest brotrucks. It is also a very comfortable position which puts practically no strain on your lower back or wrists.
> price and availability
The bike has gone unchanged for the last 15 years so there's plenty available for very cheap. The popularity and lack of change keeps the resale value high so it's easy to sell. This has the downside of making them expensive to buy in the used market but can be avoided with patience.
> suspension
The Dr-Z400 features a fully adjustable Showa cartridge forks and shock which offer splendid damping characteristics. You can tune it to your riding style with the clickers and preload adjusters, but you will benefit from a respring if you're a fat fuck. Lose some weight.

Thanks guys. I'll definitely look at getting the ones from 400-600. I'm already on a 250 Ninja, so getting a 250 dual sport wouldn't be the best, since the bike will be doing some of my fun on road shenanigans as well as off road. There's an xt600 for sale five hours away from me.
I'll be poking dealers and other riders. See what I can get.

Shit, the average american could just go on a diet to get the effect of buyinbg a 600.

Also it's not the internet, it's reality. 600s are great when you're either in the powerband or out of it all of the time. Their brakes are killer. They almost never have electronics. They're harder to ride well.

Just got my Massachusetts motorcycle permit, signed up for the first state-sponsored riders class in the spring.

Looking into getting a Suzuki TU250 for babby's first bike, as my commute is about 14 miles but all on <40mph roads, and I scared the piss out of myself on my buddy's SV650 on those roads this summer. WAY too much bike. Plus, insurance is way cheaper for <400cc bikes.

I want something light, reliable, and not covered in plastic. Unfortunately, the used market in my area is almost 100% cruisers, stretched GROMs, and nigger-tier crotchrockets, no UJMs or small standards to be found.
Was thinking of getting a street-legal dirtbike, but the noise and tons of maintainance are big turn offs for me. My other option is my dad's old Virago, but it weighs as much as a fucking planet and it feels cramped to me.

My question is basically this: is the TU250 as fun as everyone says? I've sat on one in the showroom, and loved it.
What are similar new options in the $3k-4.5k sub-400cc range?

i'm looking for a waterproof backpack big enough to fit my laptop in. anyone have any recommendations?

also, i got caught in the rain today (not a little drizzle like last week) for real and i have to say -- the literbike is completely fucking fine in it. i used to be one of those big peter naysayers. too much for the street, uncontrollable in the rain, zero margin for error, etc. now that i own one and have lived with it for a while, liters really are as tame as you want them to be. i've noticed pretty close to zero qualitative difference in the rain riding experience across many displacements. the big inline 4 is almost more friendly off the line than a medium-displacement twin is -- and certainly more friendly than a ridiculously grunty 848/panigale.

but yeah, backpacks anyone?

No wonder people think motorcyclists are fucking retards and douchebags and want to run them over
>>
>>16243124
motorcycling as a whole is a dying sport. as riders age and mature they feel more comfortable around a literbike, and really once you get one you'll most likely never go smaller. but really, the culprit for the death of the 600 is the electronics package of the 1000. on all new literbikes (now that honda has finally updated their liter) you can turn its engine into whatever you want with the flick of a switch. want a fire-breathing track machine? you got it. is it rainy or are you a newer rider? you could tame it down to the output of a 250. to top it all off, new literbikes weigh LESS than 600s did a decade ago, and those bikes aren't exactly couch potatoes themselves.

manufacturers make far less on 600's than they do on liters and it's starting to just not make sense to make them.

>>
>>16245950
I very much disagree with your opinions on dual sports, but with your back, look at the standards and cruisers. Folks here generally despise them, but if you want a ride and need the upright to leaned-back ergos, the the Honda Rebel, Suzuki S40/S60, etc. would serve. Heck my neighbor picked up a 2006 or 9 (I can't remember) Rebel 250. He's had great big Harleys before but just wanted a decent, reliable little bike to scoot around town on. He doesn't leave town with it. Heck he would be fine on a Grom, but likes the ergos of the little Rebel. But yeah, it takes a bit to get really going.

Market is booming famalam, you can't deny motovlogging helped making it bigger. Saying this is a dying sport is ridiculous, BMW just topped their 2015 sales in October. already.

Also the S1000RR was the bestseller with 13,3% overall share, don't think old people would get an uncomfy supersport instead of the R or XR.

Im sure its fine.
Hell, i ride an XL185 around town. Pretty sure its faster than a rebel.
Not hating. Just saying

>want to live in california to take advantage of all the motorcycling roads.

Immigration into the US is buttfuck hard, whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?
>>

You dont wanna be here... or even in california. Its the worst state
>>
>>16246061
Trust me man, I do, it gets so bloody boring here.
Each day is rinse and repeat, nowhere new to explore, no new cities, or places to see, no 'new' people to meet, awful culture, not even many SJW's, or rednecks to get annoyed at.

Man, I want to get outta here ;-;

Does anyone have DRZ400 engine diagrams? I'm pretty thermostat is stuck closed, engine gets super hot, the right radiator as well, left radiator stays cool as a fan. I've ordered one off ebay, but I don't know where it's located to replace it.

Afghanistan has some pretty sweet dual sport/adventure roads. I've hear the locals are pretty friendly.

Happened to me before too. It was low on coolant so it wasn't actually flowing out the top of the right radiator. Fill up your radiators.
