To put it in perspective: My supersport has the stock seat. It is pretty hard but at least it is wide enough for a normal butt. At its narrowest point it is as wide as the widest point on the Seat Concepts comfort seat on both of my dual sports. The stocks seats on those, especially the KTM, are literal assrape.

>>16246686
Speaking of the '90's...

Brilliant technology. Shit quality control.

I even bought the fanboi helmet.
> Lightest dot/ece helmet available, 1050 grams
> "StoneFibre" shell
And the vent holes in the liner are drilled off-center and don't connect to the vent holes in the shell.
> Anti-fog shield
which fogs like crazy. And the protective sticker on the shiled left glue behind when I pulled it. And the hot water I used to remove the glue also stripped the anti-fog coating, which didn't matter because it didn't work.

Any wrenchers in here? My first bike (odometer ~53,000km / ~33,000mi) was running lean a month or so ago, she'd drop out at high power; mechanic said the carb slides were worn. Checked the carbs meself and they seemed to run fine (albeit with a hell of a vacuum), then found a frayed throttle cable and a less than perfect air filter (paper) which seemed to have been placed in two years ago. Both of those I replaced.

Got the thing up and running today, and riding it around there were light pops (in the same, repeated rhythm) every now and then, regardless of clutch / accel / decel / idle. Rode it up to about 60kph (~40mph), was a bit fearful to take it any further. It also idled way too high (3k RPM vs. a standard 1.3k) and would die if I gave it choke (although it is summer).

What do?
>>
>>16247128

I've been trying breh, but thanks for putting my mind at ease. Apparently worn slides can create an internal leak of sorts as air goes around the slide instead of under like it's supposed to (CV carb). Expensive to fix and bloody scary. Do you know anything about that, or if there's anything else at all I ought to have in mind while I'm working on this bike?

>>
>>16247233
IDK about that. My bike is tuned right and doesn't like to run with full choke once warmed up.

If possible on your bike try taping over some of the airbox opening (reduces air flow). If it runs better it is too lean. Or remove the airbox cover (more air flow). If it runs better it is too rich.
>>
>>16247029
Not me I'm straight
>>
>>16247251
Anon, I knew what I said and I meant it. It works. Besides why the fuck are you pulling your choke in and out if your bike is tuned right and runs well.

Don't sass me. That is a tried a true method when your bike has a problem and you wanna trouble shoot the fuel mix.

Obviously don't fucking do it if your bike runs fine like yours.
>>
>>16247189
"warn slide" sounds like BS, especially with a CV carb, as the diaphragm seals the slide. Slide wear hasn't been an issue since the old D'ellorto carbs in the sixties.

If you have a puncture in the diaphragm, though, that would be trouble.

If you've been riding regularly, and havn't let the bike sit for a month or two at a time, then the carbs probably are not clogged. That leaves air leaks.

If it DID sit for any length of time with gas in the float bowls, then it's carb cleaning time.
>>
>>16247251
>>16247276
Yeah I removed the air filter for a quick test and there was practically no change (empty airbox). That being said, prior to installing it I tested with no airbox at all (carbs open to the air) and it would stall without choke (I know that would obviously be too lean without the airbox), although it wasn't popping when it ran.

I should mention that the new air filter isn't the same brand as the old one, which seemed to be OEM

I'd say... More than two months? Although I had a bike that I rode only once a month, fairly short trips (I used it for grocery shopping) and after about six months it was starting and running poorly. A few 100 mile trips and it was running fine again.

On the other hand, I let a bike sit six months once, and it wouldn't run past idle thereafter.

Then you have an air leak bruh. Also get on some actual forums and see what jets people are running your bike. Even if you have an aftermarket exhaust somebody somewhere has information on the optimal carb loadout.

But yeah its an airleak is your next troubleshooting step. Its an intake boot or a gasket or something letting air in. Sometimes you can't even see or tell that its there.

Alright cool. Just looked at the break down and you got rubber intake boots and not gaskets yaaaay. Looks like they are easy to replace. These usually shit out faster than the gaskets. Inspect them for tears or whatever and you might as well put a new set on once you have the carbs off.

The slides on those carbs will outlive the cockroaches.

>>16247399
Not really. When you shut the engine down, fuel is left in the carb. The liquid part of the fule evaporates, leaving behind the dissolved solids. If you leave it for months, all the fuel will evaporate leaving the non-liquid parts in a thick layer over everything and clogging the passageways. If you leave it a month at a time, running just a little every month, some will evaporate leaving a little more solid behind every time.

Now, all the stuff left behind is stuff that can dissolve in gas. After all, that's where it came from. So when I took my longer trips, all the fuel running through the carbs slowly dissolved the crap in the carb and the bike ran better.

Asked this in the webm thread, but I'll ask it here since this thread probably gets more views.

How hard is it to pick up a bike that's dropped? I don't ride, so I have no frame of reference for how much they weigh.
Is it a one person lift or do you need another person to help?
>>
>>16247578
Depends a lot on the bike and the person, I'm a manlet (5'5, 125lbs) so the one time I dropped my Ninja 300 (385lbs) I could get it back up but it took some doing.

Depends entirely on 3 things
1. Ground surface
2. Bike weight
3. Whether or not you lift

>>16247566
7/8" is fine for the street I guess
>>
>>16247578
Unless you have some sort of disability or your bike is super fucking heavy you should be able to pick it up alone in normal circumstances. It helps a lot to know the right technique, tho.
Stand with the bike behind you. Grab the handlebar closer to the ground and somewhere on the tail section. The bars will turn toward the direction of the fall. Squat down with your back straight and then lift with your legs.

Because one day, your supersport won't be rideable because you're waiting for a new tire and the old one is a flat

Also offroad = drops. Supersport = heavy and also expensive. Do not drop heavy, expensive motorcycles.

Two bikes = instant choice. One bike = time to replace wheels with the ones with knobs.

On my DR with the 270s, nice pavement, shitty New Mexico/Texas pavement, dry hardpack, gravel, dry riverbed, light to moderate mud (I swear there is no tire in existence good for mud), deep/loose sand, wet-ish dirt (like in your picture), wet pavement. Really, crappie road surfaces are going to feel bad even in a well-modified car with top-end autocross tires.

>How are dualsports treads and compounds better than low profile road only compounds?
Well they hook up about 3 times as well off road. Still not like a knobby but they do fine on road and much better off road than a sport bike tire.

I might have to give them another chance after christmas or something, just that the only problem for me is it's about 100km to any decent offroad area from my house where I wont get shot for trespassing.

That pic was loose sand, some of the rutts and hills are just a good 6-10 inches of soft sand, I run a 150/80R17 meatabortion to get around there, sand is terrible alongside clay. Mud isn't too bad, unless it's solid and shiny.

The key to mud, mostly, is giving the rear wheel arseholes to clear the tread of packed dirt.

Good tires do wonders. Don't bother with Treadwell 800 low-rolling-resistance super economy MPG-plus+ nonsense. Get tires appropriate for the season. And there are good all-seeing tires. See: Continental ExtremeContact DW and DWS. In summer, I run Bridgestone RE-71R (fucking amazing), and SOON (TM) I will put on Altimax Arctics. No fears, no fucks given. No ABS, no traction control.

Standards are budget all-rounders. Not particularly good at leaning over on a track, not particularly good at comfortably touring with fat panniers full of shit, not particularly good at light offroading. They're low-commitment, general purpose bikes for people who don't actually know if they want to ride bikes. That aside, suzuki makes the worst, right next to honda's cucknbikes. Buy a kawasaki faggot.

>>16248067
Long time rider, rarely do I post in these.
The biggest problems with jumping cc is not 'feeling' the shrinking of your braking zone since you're hauling ass in the first place. Tunnel vision is a serious problem to overcome for fresh graduates. I can't find the video, but we had a new YZF600 rider that had done 2 years on a VTR250. He was great on that.
>Entering corner what he felt was normal for a VTR250, but was actually another 40km/h on that gut feeling
>Scrubs speed hard and goes for the apex with throttle control
>broken collarbone
>Rescussed twice in ambo
IMO it's just putting that gut feeling back into check again with something that can go faster in 2nd that the bike prior couldn't do in 6th, plus the fact that it has enough power to slide the rear with a sneeze.
>>
>>16248091
