Trust me, I was looking at the Sixty2 a shit ton. It's a sexy bike, but you will always have the subconscious fear of dropping it that will stop you from learning good habits, not to be scared, and stopping you from pushing and expanding your limits.

Save the Ducati for another day. Buy the Ninja/GPX/ZZR250 or even a 400cc supersport, but buy cheap and used. When you can ace track days (definitely do track days), buy your Superleggera and smoke everyone else with your well-built skill foundations.

Trust me, you honestly do not need anything over 300-400cc to commute (even long distance highway shit).

Be smart about this - tell your parents to give you the sum of money they would be willing to spend on the bike.

Take that money, get a sweet used 400cc sport bike or retro or what have you (hell, buy a nice 80s-90s bike if you like the retro look), and save money for track days, mods, and all kinds of shit to really make your bike yours.

You will love motorcycling so much more when you can really interact with your machine, whether you're working on it in the garage or finding out just how hard you can lean it down before you scrape pegs.
I promise you, you'll be too worried about ruining the plastics and paint on a new bike to enjoy it to the fullest.

You seem really sold on the Sixty2, which is important (buy the bike you want to fuck, not the logical choice). So, the best compromise I can think of is buy the Sixty2, and stick as MANY FRAME SLIDERS AS YOU CAN ON IT. Protect the shit out of that thing so that you aren't afraid to drop it - then, learn how to kick as motorcycle's ass and ride it hard.

halp /dbt/, first season rider here

I will be cleaning my bike for the first time tomorrow. I've worked the chain multiple times this year but never actually worked with water and shampoo. I plan on going to a self-serve car wash with those pressure water hose things, I was already told to put it on lowest setting and generally not aim at electronics, dash, radiator, bowdens etc, and the parts I hit I'll also try to hit as gently as possible.

My question is this: it's going to be 5 degrees out. I'll dry it off with some cloths or paper, clean and lube the chain, should I wait for it to dry completely or should I ride it to dry it? Am I overthinking the whole issue? I just want it to be clean before I put it in the garage for a few months.

They are, i was pretty surprised.
The front end is strangely stable, even when going on a curve, never locks (means i can brake from the front and it won't straighten the bike), it burns every 600-900cc roadster on traffic lights... it's pretty much a tank on two wheels, efficient everywhere, can cary a shitload of stuff but lacks a bit of sensations.
I'm not saying it's dull though, let the throttle rip and past 6500rpm i can feel almost the same fear i had while driving my hornet.

They WERE cool, genuinely awesome, home-built race bikes at some point, but now they're just regular streetbikes with crappy aesthetic mods that call back to those bikes with nary a performance mod except for weight reduction, +/-1 HP from some shitty pod filters and a carb swap because CV carbs hate pods. Some of them actually have upgraded brakes and suspension, but it's rare.

The successor to the true cafe racer is a turbo/supercharged, stripped down mid-range sportbike.
