So, I passed my MSF course a few weeks ago, got my first bike last weekend. '03 Kawasaki Z1000. Pic related. How do i not die? I was riding today and a bunch of squids linked up with me in traffic and we did squid shit. I had to stop because goddamn, they were FLYING and while my bike can keep up with them, I don't have the riding skill for that shit.

At least you stopped on your own accord.
When I first got my TL1000s, up from a GSF250, all I was doing was baiting smaller bikes to the speed limit and watching them fly past when I got there. Got more than a couple into trouble.

Trust me, I had zero plans of getting something like this as a first bike. But my friend is getting a ZX-10R, has had this bike as long as i've known him, really wants me to ride, and basically gave me an offer I couldn't refuse on it. It is surprisingly easy to ride. Here's a pic i took today, getting lunch before things got stupid

>>
>>16122157
when you say you "drop" a bike, it means you literally just dropped it, generally at walking speed or from a standstill. if you're bleeding it sounds like you "crashed" your bike, rather than "dropped" it. post pictures of bike and consider finding a different mode of transportation. three negligent incidences in one day doesn't bode well for your suitability to ride a motorcycle.

it's not for everyone and there's no shame in it. post bike.

you guys ever get paranoid about bike theft? i was downstairs in my apartment's parking garage having a cigarette next to my bike (like i always do because i'm an autist) and as i was walking off back to the elevator saw a decently dressed man of middle eastern descent casting gazes at my bike and the brand new monster parked next to it. i immediately lit another one and strolled back to my bike and made eye contact with him and he just walked off back to a late-model bimmer and drove away.

all the lazy people park their bikes on the ground floor right next to the gate but i park mine at the absolute bottom. i know that realistically any of those lazy peoples' bikes will be stolen far before mine but i still get worried about it. can anyone relate?

Keeno has more posts on 4chan than miles of road experience. Take from that what you will.

>>16123073
I think learning wheelies is quite beneficial to the mental process of riding, in particular the part where you drop ego and realize you're the problem. Most people who can't wheelie have tried it at one point, can't do it, and have said either "I didn't want to wheelie anyway" or "it's not useful why would you want to wheelie ra ra ra" and have made excuses for their own failings.

Nobody wheelies a bike perfectly the first time, but after hours of practice you can improve and work on it and expand your comfort zone greatly and eventually you can do it. It's a big lesson for motorcycling in general that it's generally always you that's the problem and with a bit of work and constant practice you can overcome your deficiencies, things that seem impossible can be made possible through effort and practice.

Considering how incredibly arrogant you are for how little you know about riding I think this would be a good lesson to learn.

More to the point, the idea that wheelies are in any way a seperate function of riding motorcycles is rather silly, they're a basic physical fact of life while riding a motorcycle, too much power to the rear wheel, the front comes up, too much brake, the back comes up, they're not a "stunt" they're an inbuilt, bred in part of motorcycles and you grow to understand this when you learn to control them.

some people can appreciate riding for its simpler, less autistic qualities.

The one who's wrecked already

The high and mighty one can't and won't ride hard enough to die, ever. High and mighty internet motorcyclists run with ten times the following distance needed, slow down so they never have to lean more than 15 degrees, and filter to the back of traffic.

I see adventure bikes in his future.

i rode my bike to work every day (15mi each way) during the sunny weeks for a total of 150 miles a week. Minimum. And then there were other things.

Now it's more like 30-60 miles a week but still, in one month I racked up over 600 miles with commuting, exploring, and buying beer. How long have you been riding?

I've been at it for a couple of months and I still suck total shit. The furthest I ever leaned was going 50mph around a very gentle corner, and I only leaned over so far because I had shit body position that pushed the bike down. And I crashed twice.

Indian scouts have impressively low center of gravity and weight so I dont know what yore talking about.

Im literally getting it for a main mode of transportation. And with a higher ridden seat it can be a touring :!)

Still about the Poly cotton. Should I shell out for cordura or leather instead

Just wanted to weigh in on all these cunts bagging you, I completely agree with you that you should learn to ride competently at high and low speeds before bothering with wheelies.

I've been riding dirt bikes for over ten years and road bikes for ~5, commuting daily for the past few. Sure getting the front wheel up has advantages for getting over logs and obstacles off-road, but I have never found a need to wheelie on the road other than for fun when no-ones around (or the obvious advantage of dick sizing with anonymous shitheads on 4chan)

So learn the finer points of throttle control, balance, emergency braking etc.. They're skills that'll help you learn the fancy more dangerous stuff should you so desire while also helping you be a safe rider.

it's entirely possible (even recommended) to never bother with wheelies. i've been riding for a long ass time now and the only wheelies i ever do are a side effect of hard acceleration. i've literally never dropped a clutch to wheelie on purpose.

the downside? i don't get to showboat and make strangers think i'm cool. the upside? i'll never loop a bike showboating to make strangers think i'm cool
>>
>>16123406
Clutch wheelies are stunting

The other, short lived, short in the other way wheelies are an essential skill. Wheelie over speedbumps every day.

no. there are no circumstances in which being able to wheelie will safe your life on the street. if there are, it's not just """""rare""""" but closer to something like "once in a million lifetimes." if anyone has any scenario in which a fucking wheelie trumps application of throttle, brake, countersteering, or any combination thereof, please feel free to illuminate me.

By this logic spoons are fatal because a man once died by spoon.

>>16123493
I just prefer not to. Plain and simple, they aren't on my list of things to learn at the moment. I'd rather play it safe and learn more basics with both wheels on the ground before I get into stunting
>>
>>16123493
>power wheelies
It's not a proper power wheelie either. You just hop the front up real quick to get it over something, and you can only do it properly at lower speeds.

Basic parking lot skills. Some speedbumps are fucking nasty and it's easier to maintain balance and a smooth ride if you can keep a moderate speed and hop the front wheel instead of jumping it. For smaller bumps, just compress the rear with a bit of throttle.
>>
>>16123485
What's your idea of an "experienced rider"?
>>
>>16123497
if someone were killed by a spoon, that incident was a fatal incident. it was not very fatal, sort of fatal, or extremely fatal. it was just fatal. if he hadn't died and instead became seriously injured, that would be a non-fatal injury.

My DRZ will power wheelie up to ~50mph if I bounce on the footpegs. After that I use the clutch. It's handy for train tracks and shit. What do you consider lower speeds?
>>16123497
When you learn wheelies, you also learn other things like steadier rear brake control, how much it takes to make your front go into a speed wobble, and like others have said, how to clear obstacles in the road.

Guys, I need some feedback to make a decision here. I planned this text a few hours ago, so it's a little bit weird now.

There's somethings that I don't get the general consensus on this thread, and I've been lurking for 9 months as a no-bike and 5 months as a hasbike.

I've seen people getting mocked for riding a Ninja 250 for one year and then getting an R3 and calling it a upgrade. I've seen people getting mocked for starting on a 125cc, mocked for starting on a 600. One thing is for sure, most people here recommend, for someone who likes to go fast on corners is starting on a 250~300 (or the all acclaimed GS500/SV650).

I don't live in America, so most options that you guys call cheap are actually pretty fucking expensive, but sometimes manageable. Buying a second bike is quite a fucking investment for me, since I can ride all year long and don't really like cars nowadays. The question is: as I've been riding a 125cc super moto for how long should I ride to be able to go into a 600cc. So I made this image with the best available bikes in my opinion, and am trying to put some pros and cons on them. I'm not having too much fun on my 125cc anymore, at least on the road, because it can't reach 65mph, it gets stuck on 60.

The country in question is Brazil, since all our cars are shitboxes, a 250cc will outspeed most cars on the road, but with a 125cc I risk being run over by a truck.

I'm heaving leaning to the Korean Hyosung because used it's the same price as the 250 brand new, being even cheaper than the Ninja 300, while not being as powerful as the R6.

Give me some feedback on my opinions on my image and what would be the best bike for me. Thanks in advance!

I think you could comfortably upgrade to a non-supersport 600. As tempting as it seems, avoid korean and chinese shit man. Bikes less than a year old come up with all kinds of odd breakages and electrical problems.
