I did it boys. I bought that sketchy Craigslist GSXR. I don't know what the fuck is going on with this bike but I am pretty damn happy with my purchase thus far.

>mfw its a full exhaust and not just a slip-on like I thought

Power commander, aftermarket shock, QUICK SHIFTER.

The only thing that concerns me is the fuel pump makes a weird noise (it sounds a lot different from my 600) when I turn it on. Also the inside of the gas tank looks a bit fucked.

All for $2100

That was part of the reason why I was OK with taking a gamble on it and buying it without seeing it. As long as the bike runs, there isn't much that can be wrong with it.

I will say though. This is my first time on a 1000 and the power honestly isn't as much as I had expected. This is using my 600 as a reference. It feels torquier for sure but when I first rode my 600, I was shitting my pants just feathering the clutch in 1st gear (upgraded from a ninja 250) so the difference felt much more substantial.

Not so much this time

>>
>>16120240
Not really man. If the bike runs and shifts through the gears, there isn't much that isn't fixable for cheap. I know I'll need a valve inspection/adjustment. Tires, chain, sprockets, fluids, etc.... are all replaced anyways when you buy a new bike.

I just noticed something very dangerous about the kickstand of my SV650.

I parked it in a motorcycle spot on the side of the road, it's just a little bit downhill, something like a couple of degrees. Still when I turn the handlebar the kickstand starts, I don't know how to say it better, going back and therefore the bike falls.
What the fuck?
Is that normal? Looks like the kickstand doesn't go much forward and the slightest movement of the handlebar toward the right will make the bike fall.

If this is normal then how the fuck am I supposed to park the bike downhill?
>>
will painting a red racing stripe on my slowbike make it go faster

>>16120364
Yes that is normal. That is literally how I dropped my bike for the first time. It's annoying as shit and you just have to be careful. Park sideways instead

Plenty fast. Handles a lot like a sport bike with very stiff suspension and great brakes. More comfortable for distance and commuting because of the riding position id say.

I think they still do, I'm just a very stressed person and tend to have mental schemes to ease some stress. Always letting vehicles in neutral is one of them, it will be hard to readjust.

I always put the car in neutral at the light too, for example.
>>

>could a friend in canada import it for me, and then I can buy it from him?
no because you still have to register it in the USA

Yes! The clutch is not nearly as forgiving as a cars! Also that a gear shift lever can be repaired with a hammer, anvil and a pipe nipple.

Minor scratching on the left fairing and managed to bend the shift lever on top of the linkage. Luckily it was near the dealership and they were total fucking bros about it, had it fixed in ~20minutes

It's not a torque converter though and you can fry a motorcycle clutch with enough abuse. Slipping in very low speed work for short periods is fine though.

Hey anon sorry, I missed your post.

>What's it like on the island?
Warm and pleasant most of the time. I miss some of the big city stuff once in a while, but it's nice in here.

>How is contact to the mainland? Ferries frequent?
Yeah there's at least 2 ferries a day from different companies. They cost anything from 60€ to 160€, it was a while since I last checked. What sucks is that the ferry takes 8 hours to get to the mainland.

>Canaries

That's a few notches up on the "really fucking far away" scale. The ferry there takes close to 2 full days to the mainland.

Mallorca is doable. Canaries unless you have a fantastic job opportunity (or don't need to worry about money at all) I would pass. Southern Spain (say, Marbella) is also very pleasant and more well connected.

Just got my (Minnesota) motorcycle's permit, so want to get a bike at some point, especially because I'll probably be going to college in Texas.

I only make like $400 a month at my part time job, and have $300 saved for a bike right now.

Should I wait to buy an older ninja 500 for like $1000 if it's in decent condition, or save up $1800 for something like a honda xlr650 or similar dualsport?
>>
>>16121171

>>
>>16121221

>>
>>16121233
Yeah I understand that slow bikes/cars and riding them quick is safer and more fun generally than fast bikes slow, but for a dual sport 250 there's many that can't even go on the highway so what's the point in owning one when the only way around a river near me is a highway without doing a 25 mile detour.

my cb250's top speed is 70 even though the odo goes to 85
in order to get up to 70 I need to
>put my feet on the passenger pegs
>put my chin to the handlebars
>WOT the throttle
even then it takes a solid 15 seconds to accelerate from 60 to 70
there's no way a 250, save for maybe a ninja, can handle a highway
>>
>>16121270
>can handle a highway

when I get up to 70 the engine's practically redlined and sounds like it's going to explode
>>
>>16121270
Mine gets 75-80mph for real but its probably because altitude, tires or carb tune.
>>
>>16121270
most highways in my area are 55, only a few are 65. there's no law against going under the speed limit. going faster than the flow of traffic is preferred for experienced riders, but for a new rider it's not a good idea.
>>
>>16121291
ours (FL) are 75 and if you're not doing the limit here people are going to try and run you off the road
>>
>>16121304
DRZ400 then. you really want to be going as low power as you possibly can given any constraints. it's really hard to recommend anything other than a 250, but a 500 may be fine in this situation as well. just please be careful, it's really easy to get ahead of yourself once you start getting comfortable. your most dangerous time when learning how to ride a motorcycle is when you just start to actually get your skills down and the dunning-kruger effect kicks in. you see people all the fucking time on internet forums talking about their lean angles, how good they think they're getting, etc. nobody is ever as good as they think they are until you've been riding long enough to get an accurate picture of what skill on a motorcycle actually is.

this takes a lot longer than months. we're talking years before you've actually fully matured into a competent motorcyclist.

it is, compared to a supersport. it's a form of risk mitigation for people who aren't inclined to listen to advice in the first place. if you tell someone who wants to get a 600 supersport as their fist bike to get a 250 they're more likely to ignore you than if you recommend a 650 twin. 650 is after all a bigger number than 600. they still get to feel like a big boy but do so more safely than on an I4 600.

none of this changes the fact that if you can start on a 250 you should

Here's an old 02 gsxr600 with a lot of bolt on stuff and a good amount of tuning.

can anyone explain this sixth sense?

how do you know when you're using it whilst riding?

do you have to keep putting yourself in danger to improve it?

hey, the same bike I have!

What do you have done to it? I have been considering fuxing around with mine. It's bone stock at the moment. I also just bought a GSXR 1000 with the works so I might leave it stock but who knows

it's basically just road sense. ride long enough and your mind starts to subconsciously put together all of the little tells that vehicles give off when they're about to do something dangerous. it's just a form of pattern recognition that allows you to quickly and without involving your conscious mind evaluate risk in a pretty sophisticated series of mental shortcuts.

you know you are using it if you find yourself taking specialized, directed precautions without consciously thinking about it. as far as developing it and "putting yourself in danger," if you don't realize you're putting yourself in potentially mortal danger every time you throw a leg over a bike, you'd better start realizing it.

your risk of dying is 38 times greater on a motorcycle than it is in a car.

Yeah, "smortypi". Apparently there are two accounts under that name, so look for the one with this as the icon. Don't judge the name too hard, I made it when I was 13

The biggest issue I see is that beginners have this concept of "pretend you're invisible" hammered into them. This is correct, you should always pretend you're invisible.

but you arent.

and 99% of the time, people see you and react how they should. you get used to this and eventually let your guard down.

Then that 1% sneaks up on you and takes you for a spin.

Anyways, the 6th sense is more or less an extension of your 6th sense from driving a car. You can just pick up small hints. Like you see a car at the end of a driveway. You automatically slow down because you're anticipating this stupid fucking moron to back out without looking or some shit. Or you steer clear of the dividing lane because you know 90% of people in this world are fucking retards that can't stay in their own lanes without drifting over the lines. You don't pass more than 1 car at a time when traffic is stopped because you know people are stupid shits that change their minds, etc

Here's another.

I sold this bike a few years ago but it had a full micron exhaust, TRE mod,
R1 throttle, short stacks on the intakes, 520 chain with altered gearing (can't remember what size), power commander, stainless lines, dyno tuned by bsbk racing outta farmington hills MI.

Made 112 whp which was pretty good for that gen. I did a few track days with her and also ran the 1/4 mile in 11.02@130mph. Fun bike!
