the closest you'll ever get to a honda GP bike without blowing $130k on a repli-racer (neutered for amerifats and nips) is one of their V4 sportbikes, just because it's a V4, and then you're actually closer to WSBK homologation specials from the 90s than a GP bike.

That road gets stupid dark at night and it's currently covered in wet leaves so going full hektik isn't a possibilty at night.

i have no idea what i want to buy.
learning on a scooter has made me want something light and nimble like a cbr250rr, but i sometimes wish i could just drive off the road for the fuck of it.
also, 90s styling makes me wet.

is there anything that could potentially do a track day but handle light off-roading and exploring? 90s bikes would be preferable because cheap and im poor, and they look sweet. mechanically simple is also great because reliability.

help the idiot, /dbt/

You can't have everything, make a choice.

Even the fastest enduro bikes are gonna run out of puff down the main straight of most full sized tracks. Can always compromise and go with the dualsport option then ride on motard days, go kart tracks, rider training centers etc.
>>
>>16101654
yeah i think i'm full retard for wanting both. i'm basically just struggling to choose what i think is fun, but i think a bike that can handle 70-80mph sustained and offroad would be awesome. i'm probably not really going to be at the track that often, i just prefer exploring really.

ahahah shit.

It still is but much like you I had things in mind other than passing people on leader bikes who can't into /powerdelivery/ and doing turns at 20km/h because puddles everywhere.

I even scrapped pegs last time while going full lean and was improving my trailbreaking and corner-exit-dorifto shenanigans and was all proud of myself and such.

1. lines + braking markers
2. trailbraking deeper.

These were my same damn goals last trackday but I never managed to get either right as I was still acclimatizing.

I believe that at the apex for my speed group I have zero problems, I'm always catching people/making ground at the mid corner and in general have enough going on there in terms of lean angle and whatnot.

My problems are the lines I'm cutting are generally not efficient due to my corner entry being slow, which I believe is suffering due to bad trail-braking.

So I'm hoping working on the trail-braking will be something of a two birds with one stone type affair and help me to cut some cleaner lines too.

Noice anon. Keep us posted.

On my group which isn't that fast I noticed that I gain on nearly everyone mid corner too, which is why I wanted to work on my corner exit so I could put half a bike in there and just pass the slow guys. It's key since even with 70-90hp if you exit with the proper line you can use everything the bike has to give, which can be the limit of grip for everyone else, no matter how powerful the bike is.
>>
>>16102154
well the other thing is, if you put a ripper exit on the final corner and get up beside another bike, sometimes he'll realize you have a bit less power but will be faster over the lap and he won't zip off into the distance letting you go first into T1.

My tendency is to set up for good exits but I think I've gone too far and my entrances just suck so I'm after a balance now.

Study statistics and see where YOUR personal use case fits. Ignore anyone who is not an experienced motorcyclist because they know nothing.

Are you a drunk? Are you stupid? Are you a dizzy little bitch who resents learning to ride safely/efficiently?

If your mindset is right your odds are good. Take a fucking rider training course even if the money means you wait a bit to buy a machine.
>>
>>16102139
Look into British bike forums as well as Royal Enfield forums, which will take you seconds to find.

/dbt/ is a strange place where people visit via a computer but mysteriously can't find anything on the internet.

If you tell us where you live others may suggest local motorcycle events worth attending. The Britbike community is a good one. Barber Vintage may be the most interesting motorcycle event in the US. AMCA events have lots of British, but don't neglect Triumph, Norton and BSA club meets because most owners own multiple brands including Royal Enfield.

If you don't have the factory SERVICE manual, get one. Parts book too if available. Make that a rule for every bike you keep.

Burgers can buy any level of insurance we want. Your generalization isn't even a good troll. Return when you aren't retarded.

My preferred method is full coverage with a high deductible since I'm a mechanic and will turn a profit on any level of vehicle damage. Less spent on insurance leaves more money for more motorcycles.

So many haters that obviously are motorcycle gods and are the cat's meow when riding. You obviously have never ridden a 200+ hp bike that weighs 400 lbs. I would LOVE to see you take these "electronic nanny" bikes and ride them on a track at race pace with it all turned off. You'd be on your ass so fast you'd go back in time. I ride a 1999 VFR with no traction control, ABS etc, but I have also ridden the new bikes that are running 200+ ponies. There is a reason it's there.

But I guess that I haven't flown down from the crotch of God like you all have. $99 says you have never even ridden the track.

Go back to your Prius and leave the motorcycle racing to the men.

Have your mom click this link and read the history of Panigale to you after she tucks you into bed, little boy.

SVanon here. Been to the mechanic, he said to bring back the bike next week cause he's all alone this one.

He also said he can mount me Michelin Pilot Road 3 for something more than €300.
Should I? I specifically asked and he said the tires won't deform if I don't use the bike for 3 months.

Hi!

I am a new rider, I tried to practice emergency braking but I am afraid to lock the front wheel and crash my bike...

I wonder how much brake I can apply before locking the front.

Of course I know that I need to apply the brake gently and then go progressively harder on it, and not grabbing it.

For example, if I need to brake very hard from 120kph to 0kph, can the brake lock all of a sudden at 50kph, or once you start your braking the good way you will not lock the wheel?

Or, if I panic brake from 50kph to 0kph, can I lock the wheel at 5kph and fall like a moron?

So basically, I wonder if wheel lock only occur when you grab a handfull of brake at the start, or if it can appear at any moment while a panic brake.

What cause a front wheel to lock?

Thanks
>>
>>16102920
The wheel is locked when it suddenly loses traction, release the lever a bit and it will catch again
You won't fall if you're upright
>>
>>16102920
grab a hand full of retard
>>
>>16102920
well you need to understand that the whole reason a wheel locks up is because of friction. for a quite very extremely simplistically basic explanation, you've got two sources of friction: friction between the brake calipers and the disk, and friction between the tire and the road.

the friction between the tire and the road wants to keep the wheel rolling. the friction between the calipers and the disk(s) wants to stop the wheel from rolling. the wheel will lock when the friction force of the calipers/disks is greater than the force from the tire/road. luckily the tire/road friction source has leverage going for it, since it's out on the very end of the wheel as opposed to closer towards the center of rotation, like the calipers/disks.

so, going in a straight line, it's really difficult to lock the front wheel because of that leverage, but it is still technically possible. if you brake properly you likely won't ever get to that point though.

the reason we say not to 'grab' the brakes is because between the two sources of friction, the tire/road surface one doesn't deal with suddenness very well. so a sudden spike in resistance (from the brakes) may be enough to upset and lock the front wheel, even though the same pressure done more gradually would have been fine. this has something to do with the rubber material of the tire, the way your suspension works, and possibly also the differences between activation energy friction and sliding friction.

but again, if you brake properly and on good road surfaces, you'll rarely hit the point of locking up the front wheel.

The reason you can apply more force without locking if applied gradually is because weight transfers to the front as you ease on the brakes. The front tire is pressed onto the pavement harder and so you have a higher limit of friction.

The wind, the sound of the bike, got my first biker wave, and everything just felt natural. What does /dbt/ think of buying a salvage title motorcycle?

https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/mcy/5858263208.html

Im heading out to check this bike in a couple of hours, and appearance wise it seems to be okay. But I guess I don't really understand what a salvage title means because I'm unsure whether that implies theres something seriously wrong with this bike?

It could have just been lowsided and have had plastics replaced, or it could have serious underlying damage.
It's a risk, but you could get a really good deal
>>
>>16104135
literally yes.
>>
>>16104158
So I guess my question is, in order to get a salvage title for a vehicle it just has to be involved in an accident? Rather than being completely totaled? Cause this dude is saying the salvage is from a few scratches or something, and I always understood salvage as to mean totaled.
>>
>>16104155
Bikes, especially cheap beginner bikes are easy to total in smaller crashes. That said it's best to get everything checked out by a mechanic to make sure everything's straight, and it's going to be more difficult to sell a salvage title bike as well. Not worth it IMO

>>
>>16104155
Salvage means previous wreck. However, insurance companies get really expensive quotes using OEM factory parts, which get more expensive as the vehicle gets older, so it's really easy for the cost of repair to go over the cost of outright buying the bike even if the damage is no more than a busted fairing.
>>
>>16104204

It sounds pretty neat without the db killer but it's so hilariously loud I've suffered some temporary hearing loss and tinnitus for days after riding for a couple of hours with no db killer and earplugs all the time. Definitely something you can enjoy once in a while, but not good for you. I remember when I just bought it without the db killer, the battery was weak and I would start it with some gas so the bike would jump straight into 4k rpm. Would it be dumb if i had no idea how to ride a bike and buy a basic ass bike for 1k?
>>
>>16104404
If you're an autistic kid that likes to rattle rocks in soupcans, sure.
>>
>>16104411
Probably not, as long as nothing is wrong with it. My first bike was about $400
>>
>>16104401
Honestly this doesn't sound like a bad idea. Maybe get a qt nippon penpal
>>
>>16104420
Nah, I'm not looking to get my dick wet.

I just like the idea of writing to somebody trough slow mail.
The lame part is that I'll need to make a profile like on a dating website.

Ay pictures from the last track session surfaced. I think they overdid the watermark thing a bit.

Wew my bp might need some work.

Besides leaking fluids what are some other obvious signs?

Bent forks, dented up tank, juddering engine?

Eh, in retrospect this one looks a bit more normal. Might have something to do with the overtake on those two guys.

Also the old CBR loses on the ergos compared to the newer bikes. Bars too high, among other things.

I'm off to bed now. Good night dbt please behave :3

Eh if I take it slow it's kinda ok looking.

Improving my handwriting is also part of the reason why I want this.
So I need to find a girl, girls can write good.

Those, check the welds on the frame for cracks, or the frame in general. Make sure it rides straight when you let go of the bars. It shouldn't feel "sketchy" at high speeds.and make sure it doesn't have too much trouble starting cold. Other than that it's a cheap bike, it wont be perfect, you just don't want it to kill you.
>>
Started snowing on the ride home, saw 2 scooter fags go down and a cruiser cuck almost lose it.
>>
>>16104292
Just make sure they kept up on maintenence. Like the shaft oil and engine oil etc. For the tailight issue, you might want to make sure it's just the bulb though, wiring on these are a bitch. Price doesn't seem too odd for how old it is.
>>16104321
Hey there.

Thanks. How long will this bike last though? It alread has 29k miles on it. I dont plan on buying a new one for years because im pretty broke as is.
>>
>>16104593
I know a few guys with over 100k miles on their intruders, it will be fine if you take care of it. 29k isn't much for most bikes anyway.
>>
>>16104426
Also, you could try HelloTalk, although that is more for learning/teaching foreign languages.

Fuck I wish I still had the infographic from /r9k/ because they had a Penpal General going for a while and it had a website that let you connect with a penpal.
>>16104577
Hey man, this case you're just projecting. It's not the girl being a slut, it's you.
>>
>>16104250
>Wrong. They deemed it too expensive to repair.

Correct, and they mean repairable to stock condition. You can easily "total" many motorcycles in a parking lot tipover by damaging plastics and minor hardware.

TYPES of salvage title and requirements to register salvage titled bikes for street use vary by State so take nobody's word on the internet for your location. Find out from DMV. You can find some loopholes for specific States in chopper forums where they are a fairly common subject.

A fucking junk battery, which was only about 4 months old. Took the battery to 2 different places, 2 different times to be tested. Both told me everything was perfect with it. Assumed because of that, that the battery was good so there was some electrical issue somewhere. Went through some stuff to try and figure it out, but I couldn't. Got sick of trying, so I didn't touch the thing for a couple months. Finally brought it to a good shop who went through everything like I did, then they ended up taking the battery to the battery shop they deal with where they were told it was a dead battery. The battery was replaced under warranty, and now the bike's fine. Pretty pissed that the idiots at the battery places I went to tested it and told me it was good, but at the same time I'm relieved that it was something easy that was covered under warranty, and I found a good shop run by good dudes to go to next time I have a problem.

Yeah nah.
>>
>>16104270
Fixing a bad bike engine is very rarely worthwhile. If you can spin a wrench you could replace with a known good one but I suggest buying a runner with a good drivetrain for firstbike then working on other shit.

For training get a project bike later on.

Exception would be a yard sitter that needs a carb and fuel system cleaning. Any car mechanic can do that, but if you buy a sitter bring a fucking compression gauge whose spark plug hole adapter fits that machine and a jump pack to spin it over. Starter and solenoid theory is similar to automobiles.

Visit real motorcycle forums and study any bike you consider thoroughly before spending money. As a mechanic you'll have a comfy bike life. Just remember bikes are soft and delicate compared to heavier car hardware.

>>
>>16104619
I suspect the dumbasses did a voltage check instead of a proper load test.

If you don't already have one and expect to keep the bike I suggest getting the factory parts catalog, service manual, and electrical diagnostic manual. HD books are fucking excellent and once you non longer need warranty coverage they are relatively easy for owners to maintain.

Harley Tech Talk, Chop Cult and vtwinforum are informative reading. My nicks are farmall and casement.

You need to take all the dicks in your ass so they won't be available for sloots. /dbt/ will appreciate your anal sacrifice. Post pics of the event for science..

absolutely terrible choice of first bike.

RS250s are weekend bikes that will require some wrenching knowledge to own and you need to be riding every day as a noob.

It's just not an ideal every day bike, tiny, torture rack ergonomics, razor thin powerband and frequent top end rebuilds because

I mean you're free to go with it if you want, mighty bike, but I just think you might get a bit frustrated with it if it's your only bike.

It's a 2-stroke? You don't let them idle until warm like a 4-stroke because that supposedly lets the oil gum up some shit somewhere. As long as he isn't going WOT to redline on a cold engine it shouldn't be an issue.
>>
>>16104729
Ride the motherfucker. Two stroke streetbikes use to be very common and anyone who minds two stroke top end jobs is a flamer.

You can wrench and if you daily it that's the best way to care for a bike. Parking them for prolonged periods is much worse and I've seen the evidence come into the shop every spring.

Modern motorcycle standards are disturbingly pussified. I love two-stroke power bands and wish Yamaha made a modern TZ 750.
