no he was in second in Free practice 1 and got his lap time deleted for running 11 laps on tyres with a 10 lap limit (for safety).

In FP3 he didn't manage a fast enough time to be into Q2 which means he had to finish in the top 2 in Q1 in order to progress to Q2, he got shit on by crutchlow and lorenzo (rossi fans have spent the entire second half of this year bitching about lorenzo's wet pace and he outdoes rossi lmao) and is starting 15th on the grid tomorrow.

he won't stay there very long mind you if it's a properly dry race tomorrow but it's pretty funny.

>Noob? Read this:

That should be removed sometime and replaced with the buying guide only until someone can compile a solid list of beginner bikes along with advice for starting on those particular bikes from verified riders.

It's terribly vague advice that can leave new riders cucked, or as forumites call it, "forced to learn" (spoilers: if you have no initiative, you stay as slow as your bike), and says nothing about which bike could actually be the best for you and why. So we're left with a bunch of newbies posting craigslist links asking "NINJER FIVE HUNNED OR SV650 GUYS?" and getting shitty answers.

Surely, we can do better than various motorcycle forums that just say "ninja 250, lol" and call it a day. Broader selection, more detailed advice, less displacement/power related hysteria.

>>
>>16041686
>ninja 250
>wr125
>ybr125

These are city/canyon bikes. "Where do you live and what do you drive on?" is a pretty fucking big factor. If someone said "i have a 30 minute highway commute to get to any leisure roads and want to DD a bike to work and back" I wouldn't recommend a ninja 250, or a ninja 650. Probably a used versys.
>>
>>16041689
well I mean in the case of the triumph bobber it's a pretty solid point, you could make this point about a lot of bikes but in the case of the bobber it's very literally a case of making the bike deliberately worse to satisfy retro aesthetics.

They had to split the airbox into 2 pieces because they're hiding the shock away under the seat making it smaller and less effective.

The suspension travel will likely be shorter and overall efficacy of the rear suspension will likely be lower than if they'd gone with a non invisible solution.

and it doesn't have a passenger seat now.

Though I suppose the bike it's based off is dual shock with no linkage anyway so it's no great downgrade.

of course they did, that's why I call it genius.

They have successfully built a bike that'll give you all of the look the nu males crave with almost none of the downsides.

As much as I just went on about suspension travel, this will have more suspension travel than a harley sportster does (they have 1.5 inches on the rear)

I can guarantee KKK likes this bike, and there are a lot of KKKs out there.

They don't ride
Look at them, this is clearly a photoshoot
I know 2 women who ride (3 if we count ybr) and none of them are stupid enough to go out with that loose denim jacket, glasses dangling off their shirt's neck...

Plus look at their body language
They're sitting way too close to the tank, 2 have their hands nowhere near the controls, the other is far away from the throttle

They are uncomfortable, a bit scared and out of their element, but are trying their best to seem alright, if not competent

TL;dr don't do psychology

>>16041774
Rational is not covering a bike that will rarely exceed 70mph in aerodynamic plastics that interfere with basic maintenance or investing in complex performance systems that you will never use, especially not on a DD that no sane man would ever thrash on a track

Rational is buying an actual retro bike to commute instead of a new bike that looks retro, as they are fairly convenient to maintain independently and have an ever growing parts base as less cared for machines are parted out, but /dbt/ would shit on that too because image is cherished by you libsoc youth and you should never, ever look like a "numale"

uhhh

http://www.bikeonline.com.au/2016/03/25/mv-agusta-applies-for-bankruptcy/

and i dunno if you know this but the guy who created the F4 (and basically all of MVs modern design DNA in the process) died.

MV need to build better bikes basically.

The F3 675 gets shit on by the Triumph 675

The F3 800 gets shit on by the 959 and gsx-r750

the F4 1000s don't have a fucking chance against bikes like the S1000RR and RSV4 RR.

And yet...they all cost more than the competition.

Don't get me wrong, I really want to ride an F3 800 just to try it out, but MV need to do something about their sportbike lineup if they're gonna continue on selling them, "pretty damn good" doesn't fly in a world of exceptional bikes.

Their naked bikes are their focus right now.
>>
I rode a scooter today...

it was... really nice.

the centre of gravity was so low that at low speeds it was easy as fuck to control, it was so comfortable i didn't feel stiff at all after almost an hour of riding,

I'm not sure it'd be great on the highway, you get a lot of wind on your chest, but for the city where the max speed you can ride is 60kph... is anything bigger than a 125 really needed? I'll keep riding full motorbikes on the highway but scooters are just... fun and comfy.

what scooter should I get? just a 125 for the city is all i need.

dbt is one of the easiest threads to troll if you know what to post.
Generally takes getting in the mind of what people here would consider a retard, so someone who wants to buy a scooter, or maybe something thinking about a bobber.

Sometimes you can ask a stupid mechanical maintenance question to cause the shitstorm.

Does dbt seem less fun now?

Selection kind of sucks for mid-range bikes in the UK (or EU in general) due to the licensing system: Tons of 125s for people on CBTs, a handful of maximum-limit-of-A2 bikes and restricted bikes, and then 650+ and a bunch of litre bikes for those on unrestricted licenses. There's a yawning chasm of fuck-all between 125cc and 500cc.

Triumph are copying classic Triumphs, not custom Triumphs. Vintage Triumph and HDs are what everyone else copies.

Calling it a bobber when the bike isn't bobbed (those are full length fenders, words mean things) IS genius.

Marketing to people who don't know much is an art. Words don't NEED to mean things, just evoke emotions.

James Dean didn't play masculine characters, he played effeminate nu-males. Watch the movies. He played a little bitch. So did Marlon Brando in The Wild Ones. Lee Marvin played something more like a biker but had to lose to nu-Brando.

In the same era, real men were racing "bobbed" motorcycles Bobbing (which preceded and is not "chopping") was highly functional, it reduced weight and made maintenance, which was constant, easier. Riding wasn't easy so fatal crashes were frequent.

>>16041740
Masculinity is what you do, not what you cosplay.

Triumph also sell to people who rode and often still own the originals and want an updated version. Many of them also own modern sportbikes and ADV machines. The common denominator is they don't care for piggy tourers. They have the money so they also buy KTMs. KTM offer test rides at Barber Vintage for good reason. http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/video-ktm-ambassador-chris-fillmore-rips-up-the-barber-vintage-motorcycle-festival-with-three-different-ktms/

There are assholes in the scene, a lot of them if you want. And you can hate it all you want.

I understand that its not the same as in the 60s, there are much cheaper options to go fast. But I like the idea of choosing an old bike, putting in it decent tires and clip ons, make it fun to ride and nice to look at and just enjoy it.

Obviously you are free to dislike it. Ciuldn't care less.

Real vintage British, Italian or a very few custom Jap bikes where the mods were and remain performance upgrades, nothing. They are like classic cars.

Some junk shitbox with clubman bars and no performance (as measured against same era machines) is as laughable as a poorly done chopper.

Cafe racers are why modern sportbikes exist, but like bobbers which were also functional are now just modern folk art. The nicely done CX in the pic is folk art. Fine if you like folk art, but /dbt/ is ONLY about performance and nothing old performs by modern standards. They are docile, reliable and pleasant to commute on and there's not much to break if you drop one.

Restoring old bikes is a wonderful thing, chopping them up and LITERALLY GUTTING THE AIRBOX is not

They are all reliable enough. Reliability is most important quality in the real world. /dbt/ is all about spending other people's money on hardware the anons giving you advice will not have to use or maintain. Suzukis tend to be simple and tough.

Everything a shit. Now get bike and go ride. Get a fucking factory service manual and learn that machine from axle to axle. That makes you harder to take advantage of and saves mad cash which you can squander on meth, whores, meth whores, or Italian motorcycles. I suggest meth whores as less expensive and more reliable.

Broken bike is bad as nobike because you can't ride it.

You aren't really fucking up. The Katana is a perfectly good bike. It's cheap and will give you a good platform to learn maintenance. It's also very reliable. The only reason I would recommend a SV650 over a Katana is you will at least be able to keep the SV650 as a "variety" bike of sorts when you go and get your second bike. I ride a sport bike now and I wish I started on a SV650 so I could have a nice comfy naked bike to ride around too.

Either someone modded the 5th gear on it and made it illegal for learners in UK or it was going down a hill with a tail wind. I am calling bullshit on a 125 going 110mph on flat road.

Choke riches the fuel mixture by allowing extra fuel flow or blocking air flow. Throttle lets more air through.

Why is it that holding the throttle open manually interferes with the choke on a 2001 SV650? I thought a choke's function was exactly that, throttle opening, but as a slider instead of handlebar.

I tried to start the bike this morning and it wouldn't because I did the abovementioned. Then an old guy who's dad lives nearby told me that that's the way it works on old cars with chokes. What gives?

That's sometimes referred to as a choke kickoff.

Choke/enricher (especially enricher which is more reliant on a closed throttle plate to increase vacuum to move fuel through the enricher valve) are partially negated by open throttle.

Opening throttle reduces vacuum which reduces choke/enricher effectiveness BUT you don't want excessive enrichment in normal operation (fouls plugs etc) so the choke kickoff is used.

If you have to run choke or enricher on a motorcycle to get acceptable performance with a WARM engine then suspect clogged low-speed jets or air leak(s) or both if on an ancient yard sitter.

no, sportbike riding position places too much weight on the wrists to make getting ass fucked really comfortable. with the valkyrie, look at the flex of his arms. less weight on those wrists translates into more arm power available to really take control of a dick and start riding it yourself. the honda valkyrie really gives you the positioning and confidence to become a power bottom.

Wow, look at this fucking gumbie. I'd like to see you do a smooth U-turn without waddling. Sportbike riding places STRAIN on the legs and lower back. Those are what you use to support your body. Grip the tank, tighten your core, and let your upper extremities move freely. If you are supporting yourself on the handlebars you are seriously compromising your steering ability and it's doubtful you're great at turning when you don't have gyro action to keep you upright and put a damper on the excessive force you apply to the bars.

If you have sore arms instead of a sore back you're a shit rider.

haven't ridden my bike in about 4 months. Finally got to today and everything seemed normal.

I'm a bit paranoid about the carburetor though...signs I should get it cleaned?
