Is there much point in getting a leather jacket? Already have a good textile one.
>>
>>16038337
yeah, textile is just clothing, leather is a second skin
>>
>>16038337

Yea, they're good. Might want to look for one in a sale rack in your local bike shop though. Got my Triumph jacket for £150 down from something daft like £300

You get what you pay for m8. Go and try some on at a bike shop so you can gauge the quality then order online if you can find a like for like
>>
>>16038345
Textile does protect you, but is more aimed at commuter speeds.
There is a very good reason most racetracks will not let you ride unless you are in full leather,

Do yourself a bigger favour and look into laser surgery. Prescription glasses and helmets can be a shitty mix.

Saying that, if the speed limit signs aren't at least a LITTLE BIT blurry when you ride, you are incorrectly motorcycling.

First attempt at webm, sorry for the dead bug. This happened yesterday, I released the front brake before the rear brake, don't know what the heck I was thinking, I usually don't even use the rear brake b4 corners and just trailbrake with front. Yes that was a horrible line to take.
>>
>>16038670
How can I tell? Do you know of any good sources for fairings? I just searched on eBay.
>>
>>16038833
a good source for fairings is your OEM. don't get conned by cheap chinese knockoffs unless you're just buying something to crash your track bike in
>>
>>16038833
You wont know until you get them unfortunately. Unless you know someone that had good experience with a seller.
>>16038788
Have you tried a brand that actually makes acceptable product?
>>
>>16038730
When I first got my drivers license the guy had me read some blurry ass shit in his machine. I can normally see well but but I couldn't see shit in that so I think it was out of focus. I had to go to the optometrist to get glasses or eye verification and she said my eyes were practically perfect .
>>
>>16038845
>>16038842
I just want to make the bike pretty enough to sell it. Does chinkshit stick out enough to turn away buyers?
>>
>>16038856
Do they offer some kind of fitment or color guarantee? It might be good enough for *most* buyers
>>
>>16038856
i can't speak for everyone obviously, but to someone with an experienced eye your knockoff plastics will stick out like a sore thumb. nothing turns me off quicker to a bike than some guy claiming it's clean with obviously aftermarket cosmetics
>>
>>16038872
Why? It's easy to damage the fairings and nothing else. It's not like aftermarket fairings will mean the frame is twisted.
>>
>>16038881
it's a disconnect between presentation and reality. aftermarket fairings mean the bike has been dumped and the seller isn't being forthright about it. preferring to just call it "clean" implies a dishonesty which lends me to distrust anything that seller will say about that bike. crash damage, maintenance intervals, pretty much everything.

it very well could mean the frame is fucked, but it also could mean it isn't. there's no way to know but i'm sure as shit not going to take that kind of person's word on it.
>>
>>16038330
bump start and braap into the sunset.
>>
>>16038903
See I disagree, when I bought my zx6 new I almost immediately bought some aftermarkets chink fairings, wrapped the OEM's and put them in a box.

If I crash, insurance pays no mind and I sell a complete set of OEM fairings, and if I sell, I stick the OEM's back on and sell the aftermarkets. Either way it's security, and possible some extra money.

Do what I did. Go to your nearest used clothing store and look for a heavy leather jacket. May not be the "motorcycle" fit but maybe you can get something a little bigger so you have the flexibility.

I picked up a leather jacket for $50 in good condition. Broken in, zip pockets. Coated it with leather conditioner and was good to go.

Dropped the bike and bounced/skidded down the street and it held up great. Insurance company gave me $265 for it. Still wear it.

Hey man, great looking bike, been wanting to get a sumo as a step up from my 250, I've been looking at drz 400's, mainly commuting and weekend twisty's, but also would like something alright for short highway trips, a couple hours sitting at about 80-90mph, would a drz 400sm handle that alright? Wouldn't be often at all, probably once every few months.
>>
>>16039542
I very recently got these

I really really like em, very comfortable to walk around in, easily fit under pants, great in heat (they also have non-perf ones). My only complaint for these, is the squeaking, I've broken them in a fair bit but they squeak constantly, I'm told this is a motorcycle boot in general thing from riding buddies, to kinda fix it, I trimmed some card-board and stuffed it behind the ratchet housing, as it rubs against the leather. Pretty much fixed it, gotta sometimes fiddle with it though.
>>
>>16039571
It can do it but it's certainly not going to be comfortable at that speed. 65 is a good cruising speed for them, or about 70 if you gear them taller.
>>
>>16039592
Hmm alrighty, I feel like any sumo won't really be good at that then, eh? I guess my options would be a Hypermotard, Dorsoduro, or the Husqy 701?

Why not get the Ninja 650?

It's basically the same shitty ptwin bike with a small amount of extra power and a broader parts supply/aftermarket/support base because it's still in production, and they're more common by merit of being.... still in production.

The hp/lb difference is absolutely fucking marginal. The "500" in the name doesn't mean it's anything like a GS500 LAMS bike.

Kawasaki canceled them for a reason

I live in Colorado and I'm looking into putting my bike away for the winter. I've read that I should just fill the tank with stabilized gas but also that I should totally drain the tank and run the carbs dry. What's the best way to deal with the fuel system?
>>
>>16040338
Fill the tank with stabilizer, drain the carbs. And take the battery inside on a charger preferably. That's the basics.
You could find a way to lift it up to keep the tires from flat spotting(I have stands for this), and get a decent cover.

Probably just a motard, that's what I see everyone learning to stunt on now. Seems easier than building up a stunting 600 and will hurt less if it falls on you.

WR250Xs are popular because they have a stupidly overbuilt subframe and there's a lot of stunt bits available for them.

Okay then, I need to get a bike cover, stabilizer, tender and stands. I keep it in a shed (No garage sadly) so it'll be out of the weather, but not the cold. Yeah the Keihin and Mikuni are both set up for 2 throttle cables but either will work fine with just one. My KTM has the Keihin FCR and I just run a single cable on it as well. The return cables are just there so you can force the carb shut in case it jams open or one of the cables sticks. Then where does the combustion come from?
>>
>>16040992
From the vroom vroom sound you make with your mouth
>>
>>16040992
Switch it on and a kick is what it uses. Usually an ignition refers to a key one sorry.
>>
>>16040894
All those are easy to change except electric start. I added those to my EXC.

>>16041002
Kicking the bike isn't so bad
>at least when it is in good health and actually starts
>>
>>16041012
Always starts man. Funny story I left bike on side of road today and wind knocked it over while I was at work. About good 4 hours and go lift it. Turn off gas kick out the flooded engine and turn gas back on. Starts perfect and boss tells me to ride up driveway and park in nice area.
>>
>>16041012
also an electric start costs as much as the bike is worth to get.
>>
>raining
>wet roads
>not even 4 months riding
>"hey, what happens if I press the clutch and the rear brake at the same time?"
>slide sideways

That was fun. I'm never doing it again.
>>
Electric start
Coffee in one hand, the starter button in the other. Bliss.

Where do you guys park when going into a store with a large parking lot? Do you park out with all the cars or up by the building or what?
>>
>>16041076
either i park as far into a space as i can, to annoy drivers who think the spot is free, or i park on the sidewalk or something
>>
>>16041081
>as far into a space as I can

Seems like a good way to get your bike hit by some car driver who's not paying close enough attention. That's exactly what I'm trying to avoid.

He probably didn't even realize it was wet.

Only broke one bone in my foot and shrekt the bike, I was lucky as fuck. Learned from that mistake and now know to not ride when tired, and how to handle corners.

Sam lowes has been unhabeebable of late.

>crashing twice in the session out in the middle of nowhere then pulling it together for the front row start

Put him on a big bike already (preferably a honda or ducati for sidewards action)

Yeah, I've only got my riders licence and I did my learners course during one of the worst storms we've had in almost a year so I'm kind of used to shitty weather by now.
