I've just come back from watching the 2004 SV650 with 5000 km. A motherfucking 4 hours trip.

The guy said he had a Transalp before but then he married and his wife wanted to start riding as well, he sold the Transalp and got the SV so that even his wife could easily ride it. But then she didn't want to ride anymore because something bad happened to a friend of theirs and didn't want him to ride as well.
This is why it has such a low mileage.

I'm a noob so I didn't have a a very clear idea of what to check and didn't have time to read about it lately.
Anyway, the mileage seems real, we checked the brakes, the tires etc. Then I checked the engine to see if there were oil leaks and it didn't seem like there were any.
The dent on the muffler isn't bad, it's hardly visible by the naked eye.
I also recorded the sound of the engine.
I could have done much better but I was pretty tired.

Do you see anything suspicious?
>>

Should I buy this GSXR for $2k? It has a burnt stator which I can replace, but the front end is also from a later model GSX-R (radially mounted brakes). Does it seem suspicious?

I thought it looked empty as well but maybe it's just the picture. He explicitly said they changed the oil at the inspection.
I'll ask him to take a better picture.

He rode the bike and it seemed to not have any sort of problem, likewise the sound of the engine.

is this guy full of shit? he basically says that the ECU will handle any adjustments in fueling automatically when changing out your exhaust system
>>

I only skimmed it but it doesn't seem hard to believe. Sensors in the exhaust can do a pretty good job of telling how your fuel mixture is so it doesn't surprise me that computers exist to put on your bike which gather their own data and retune for you.

Hello /dbt/ I am stuck with a busted ignition key on my old 1994 Xt 350. I want to fix it as it has been standing for three years. If I jam a flathead, and turn, repeatedly is this likely to work? I understand I can patch a bypass somehow but I don`t know how.

Look up a wiring diagram. Most likely you they just ground out the ignition when you turn the key off so you could cut the wires and put in a new universal key switch

That was what I first wanted to do, but I can`t afford it now. I need to see what it'll take to get her running.

The tank has three year old petrol in it. The tires are fine holding air, they sat flat for a while but it seems no leaks. Battery might be gone already, it had some voltage so I will try to change it up. It can run without it though I think.

You should be able to pop the ignition barrel and turn it manually, look up vids in youtube, and the bike will run without the battery, my uncle has a xt600 and hasn't had a battery in his for 5 years, the lights wont work that well though. You'll probably need a carb rebuild and a few other things cleaned up, but you probably won't be spending much, I'd say ~ $100ish max.

Hi guys, new hire at a cycle gear and I was curious about tire choices you guys make just so I'm not retarded when talking with customers while I'm starting off

Uh?

I get the right size (within 10me width and 10% profile) for what is recommended for my rim size by manufacturer. From there the choice just comes down to expected use, cost, and lifespan of the tire. I wouldn't recommend pilot powers to someone who commutes on a go500 for example .

Dunlop Sportmax Q3s.

They had the least weird feeling profile, can't really feel when you get on the softer rubber, lean gud, and grip gud.

A thin film works for me. I hate pulling rusty spacers. Been doing as you describe since the late1970s with no problems.

Yes, proper assembly IS often a mystery. Sometimes even for the very experienced. You asked. Pat yourself on the head or other body part of preference for being careful.

Crashed doesn't bother me a bit IF I get it at the right price.

Once your wrench-fu is sufficient you won't give a fuck either, and it sounds like you are on the way there. You can always hunt replacement parts at leisure, also at the right price.

You can flog shitbikes with abandon and have large fun. I like fun.

I'm a mechanic. The manuals stay. I cross reference different years which makes them extra useful. I don't expect to get a book when I buy used either. If I have a download I hook others up tho. Many of you will end up wrenching other bikes than your own even if you don't expect it. A lot of bikers get a foot in the shop door at independents, then get very good. Bonus if your preferred specialty complements the owners skills. I suggest making friends with wiring, driveability diagnosis, and enough electrical theory that you can rewire many bikes from scratch with a test light and a multimeter. Bikes are simple compared to cars, and a lot of theory is similar. Working on horrible used machines so old the dealers won't take them is great training, and that's often only ten or fifteen years old. Learn to get yard sitters running. i've been riding a gw250 for about 2 years now and im gonna ned to take the highway test (ontario) to get the full M license. since i have only been using my bike for getting around in the city i havnt been on highways with it so im wondering if it can handle it
>>

if its a dualsport just go fuck around in the snow
>>
>>16018472
I bet it can handle it. Just ride behind a truck in the slow lane with a safe distance between until you feel comfortable. If that's allowed in the test.

Dunno yet--was definitely thinking about learning to hoon in snowy empty parking lots near me, on a dual-sport or even a ninja 250/gs500, but I also don't have a car to trailer it home so homies at MSF better hurry the fuck up.

they're the lightest, easiest to handle and most durable bikes to learn on.

In MA if you have your permit and pre-pay the endorsement fee, they just send you a new license in a week.

I can attest to DR350 on highway, it's bretty gud
It's just not the bike you'd want to do LONG highway travel on but it's capable. People have ridden em across the world and through bumfuck nowhere

XT350's are kickstart only, DR350SE has electric start but there are also kickstart models but can be hard to start. Do yourself a favor and get electric if you're really only riding street.

For fun ask Harley guys if you can have all the Asian and other offshore parts off their bikes so they can be pure. Denso starters are the best HD has ever used and are found on millions of Amurrican vehicles including Dodge trucks. Brembo brakes are the best brakes they've ever had. Showa and Kayaba made HD forks since the 1970s.

I was dissapointed by the nighthawk 250, but the 750 was decent when I rode my buddies. Idk if its cause they are supposed to be beginner bikes so maybe they make them not able to kill you compared to a more race geared 250.
>>
>>16018884
883 exists for insurance reasons and the cylinders are small bore versions of the 1200 with enough metal on the sleeves to install a 1200 kit. Probably the best bet since HD are utterly incompetent to make small learner bikes and their pitiful rebadging of foreign makes failed badly.

>implying any of you faggot haters ever actually talk to a harley guy

I AM a Harley guy, and I'm also a multibrand guy and was riding and wrenching long before yuppies who fap to Sons of Assbanditry bought their toys. I like my HDs but the Motor Company are dicks and for a very long time didn't like the "bikers" they fetishize today. If you rode up to some dealers on a chopper they'd deny you service.
Now their Taj Mahal franchise requirements killed off most traditional HD dealers and their overhead is so insane dealers can't discount new bikes even if the MoCo allowed it.

I have two Shovelhead Low Riders, an Evo FXR and an FXLR (which has FXR suspension because FXLRs are for midgets and I want dual discs). I even have an 883 in pieces I'm putting together for resale though it would make an interesting 1200 Dirtster conversion.

Fuck posers. A "biker" ain't a biker if he refuses to learn to turn a wrench, and a "biker" ain't a biker if he is too fucking lazy to learn the real motorcycling history he supposedly promotes through cosplay. I don't cosplay either. My nick is farmall on Chop Cult and other forums. Wrenching is fun and I like to spread useful knowledge.

I like and own old British and Jap machines too.

Is there a bike that is relatively beginner friendly that has all the creature comforts seen on R1200GS, Multistrada (switchable ABS, heated grips, nice looks, decent instrument cluster, maybe even semi-active suspension) and the like without being lackluster on the highway?

Is the G650GS good enough at >70mph speeds to earn this badge?
>>
>>16018621
You must really hate your kids then
>>
>>16019317
no. there is no company that makes an entry-level displacement and overall weight bike that has top dollar amenities. such a bike would cost the same as a 600 supersport and have half the displacement, a fraction of the power, and nobody would buy it.

buy yourself a shitty beginner bike, throw it down the road once or twice to get it out of your system, then move up to something you give a shit about.

>>16019113

Displacement has little to do with how beginner friendly a bike is unless you're a nobike and think big number = race machine. Whisky throttle will kill you on literally anything that's capable of keeping pace with car traffic.

You want something with a slipper clutch, ABS, maybe tandem braking, a fairly upright position, a low weight, and a linear powerband. You probably can't afford that and will get a used sportbike and pretend the low CC number makes it less dangerous.

come to motor madness on /p/ we'll hook you up with the knowledge and some tips.

Got some basic stuff you need to fix here like horizon lines, colour temps, matching background exposures etc.

>the pride and joy of american motorcycling culture is a slow bike that can't turn

lol

Camera outputs footage sideways because it didn't like exhaust heat from about 30 minutes of cruising at 100+ mph.
>>16019528
It's $20 who gives a fuck lmao
>>
>>16019549

Daily reminder that americans allowed the first good bike they've basically ever made to die at least once already.

I thought you guys on /dbt/ were all about making american great again? where are your EBRs?
>>
>>16019559
american quality can't compete with asian volume

people still buy eurobikes because they have the image factor, same reason they buy HDs, but eurobikes actually perform

EBR isn't associated with an image like BMW or ducati
>>
>>16019559
Chink bikes cost half as much, and let's be real. Nobody here is riding at the level where the difference between an EBR and an R1 even matters.

the ebrs are currently 13 and 14k for the SX and RX.

Cheaper or the same as most chink leets.

Motorcycles will make no country great. Be realistic.

daily reminder that EBR could better fund their operation with mass produced low end motorcycles like the chinks, but refused to and discontinued their shitbikes, dooming the company to low production numbers and low sales

I would happily buy one if insurance on it wouldn't be $700+/mo.

I honestly really fucking want one.

only then is using statistics to make decisions irrational
