Just started riding and I havent dropped my bike yet
Does everyone drops their bike?
I've never even bean close
>>16014158
everyone else always looks so angry, rossi seems to be the only one still having fun.
>>16014180
>>16014178
Sure why not?
>>16014180
>rossi seems to be the only one still having fun.
I'm gonna guess you didn't watch motogp in 2015?
>>16014178
you will be the 9th crasher of this month.
Bumping for more opinions
>Bought a few knockoff Pelican cases
>Really tempted to put one on the back of my XRR
>XRR known for weak subframe when heavily loaded
Do I take the risk, /dbt/?
>>16014178
not everyone drops but everyone wrecks.
>>16014191
>honda
>weak
kek
>>16014190
eighth. i didn't crash :^)
>>16014191
Do man. Why the fuck not
>>16014178
Get an engine guard or a frame sliders and you'll be fine
>>16014203
don't get frame sliders. they're good for two things:
>saving plastics
>wrecking frames
>>16014191
Dont they make rear fender supports for them?
>>16014202
Gun shy I guess
>>16014191
Just weld a few steel bars in there if you are really worried about it
Just bought a used ninja 300
Whenever I brake hard (rear brakes) I hear a scraping/grinding noise toward the bottom of the bike, like something is clipping. What the fuck is it? It only happens when I have to brake pretty hard.
>>16014216
replace brakes. or better yet, just never use your rear brakes in the first place
>>16014216
that is called the ABS.
it is stopping the rear wheel from locking, probably a good thing you bought a bike with ABS, no doubt you probably would have locked up and crashed by now without it.
>>16014221
Why replace brakes? What could be wrong with it? It's a year old bike
>>16014203
I just have this big fancy crash bar on mine. Shit works ok enough I guess
I'm a second-year rider on an R3, started out on a Ninja 250. For any anons unfamiliar with the inside-baseball, the Ninja 250 is ranked somewhere in the 3-5 range of best bike, while the R3 and GS500 duke it out over the 1 and 2 slots.
I was always impressed by the performance of the Ninja 250, but it just isn't in the same league as my R3. The drop-off in engine performance when you leave the 250cc class is pretty steep, and it must be even steeper when you look at sub-250cc bikes. I mean this in the least arrogant way possible.
The consensus on /dbt/ is that most of the value-added comes from the additional low-end torque. I can't speak to the quality of other bikes, but the dominance of the R3 self-perpetuates pretty easily. Knowing that I'm riding the best performing bike for its class is a comforting thought.
>>16014228
>It's a year old bike
>2 year warranty
take it to the dealer, dumbass.
What else do I need to order for a replacement front wheel besides the wheel and what I need to remove the tire?
>>16014236
>Getting this excited over the specs of beginner bikes which are made in 3rd world shit holes
>>16014228
see >>16014227
You accidentally bought a bike with ABS and ABS is a meme for shitcunts with no brake control
>>16014227
Oh, I thought ABS just stopped front wheel locking. I guess that is a sign I need to brake a little lighter, yeah?
>>16014208
I have a fender support, but it's the mount for the subframe to the main frame that is prone to cracking.
>>16014255
don't just take the opinion of a bunch of retards on the internet at face value. do you feel the lever modulating when you step on it?
>>16014236
And yet 30 year old pic related would wreck your little boipussy R3.
So I finally decided to buy a Grom, Got a brand new 2017 yesterday.
I had the biggest smile on my face riding it around town. I love these little fuckers.
>>16014261
Lever modulating? I feel like something is ticking, yes. It's like a pulsing scrape. I was riding in the rain too, i dont know if that affects anything.
>>16014255
yes that is what ABS feels like on those bikes, it chatters the brakes on and off which is what stops the wheel from locking, use less back brake though yes, you will end up boiling them and they simply stop working.
>>16014268
I don't really understand what people see in them myself but good for you.
>>16014273
yeah that's your ABS stepping in to save you from yourself. you need to be using much, much less rear brake. a lot of people choose to ignore it mostly altogether and instead rely on compression braking for the rear to focus on getting maximum efficacy out of the front alone
>>16014268
Pool noodle exhaust when?
>>16014273
You are so fucking lucky your not dead.
>>16014259
aww bummer man they make a sub frame support for xr650s if remember correctly.
>>16014273
and people say ABS isn't making people terrible riders.
>>16014278
in fact i have a homework assignment for you >>16014273
you're going to go out tomorrow and spend an hour practicing your braking in an empty parking lot. if you feel the lever modulating or hear that grind that means you are fucked up and without ABS would be in a world of pain. go practice your shit before you wreck yourself
>>16014279
jeez maybe I am, I've had it only happen to me twice now in maybe 200 miles. I'll definitely tone it down, thanks
>>16014278
shit, alright I'll tone it down. For some reason I'm hesitant to use my front brakes and have probably been doing more 50-50 front/rear braking
>>16014278
>he doesnt nearly lock his rear brake
oh right, ABS, you can't :,)
>>16014292
the vast, vast majority of your stopping power comes from the front. if you have to choose on one thing to focus on right now which will keep you alive, get comfortable with that front brake and learn to apply it to the point just short of where your ABS kicks in. otherwise you will be reliant on it for the rest of your riding career -- however short that may end up being.
>>16014276
>Small naked street bike that can be treated like a dualsport
>$40 tires
come on m8
>Kill me
>>16014292
That's ok
I do
>90% enginebraking
>gently increase the rear
>stop with the front to put right leg down
But keep in mind motors like v-twins have inherently more engine-braking than your p-twin
>>16014303
>>16014303
Is it just me or is the muffler the sub frame?
>>16014306
that's okay for general around-town putting but you NEED to be comfortable iwth that front brake. you don't wanna be one of those retards who gently careens into an oncoming hazard at 50% front load because you were too scared to apply it. engine braking and rear brake alone aren't going to save you in an emergency braking situation -- with that alone you have the stopping distance of a bus
>>16014289
yeah i will mate, thanks a lot.
>>16014309
good man
whoever thought a front fairing would make a good gas tank clamp was an evil motherfucker
>>16014300
>Small
>most non-cruisers are already small
>>16014292
>70% of your stopping power comes from your front brake
>I'm hesitant to use my front brakes
Literally what are you doing.
>>16014321
he's learning. we don't spring fully formed from the head of zeus knowing all this shit. somewhere along the line one of the people who was supposed to be teaching this shit failed him
>>16014321
its called bait and you just took it
>>16014308
>_need_
As a beginner he really doesn't
This is the time where he should get comfortable going faster and faster on his bike
Which means carrying momentum
Which means that norlt touching the frame and keeping the engine at the right rippums is invaluable
Plus if he touches the front during a corner he'll crash
>>16014309
You also need to learn to first apply the rear, get straight up and transfer the bulk of your weight on the frontend, then you slowly and carefuly pull the lever, try to use 2 fingers
At this point, especially high speed, it's OK if the rear lifts or skims a bit
>>16014300
I mean that's all I'm saying.
I'd rather than 100kg stretched out a little further up and forward you know.
Like in the shape of a dualsport I guess.
They're not for me is all.
>>16014178
yes
my dad went decades without crashing, and then one day he forgot to put the kickstand down
no bike will ever escape the ownership of man unscathed
>>16014300
The thing i dont understand is they bored out the crf110 engine for the grom instead of just using the crf125 engine?
>>16014307
Has a pretty minimalist subframe running under the seat.
Not ideal, but as long as your taking the brunt of hits through your legs and not a 200 pound ass hanging way over the back....it'd probably be alright.
>>16014331
*not touching the brakes
Thanks auto correct
what's the most efficient way to buff out scratches? and deal with scratches that go through the coat?
>>16014340
Probably by using a buffer
>>16014331
sorry, i think being able to stop comfortably and reliably from any speed you get to is more important than reaching that speed in the first place. good points about not touching the front in a corner though, that slipped my mind.
>>16014340
>scratches that go through the coat?
Sand it back, fill it, sand it, paint it.
Put a sticker over it.
Vinyl wrap it.
Replace it.
>>16014321
Every forum wizard he ever met told him to fear the front brake, for it would knock his bike over and kill him. Now he's afraid of the front brake.
It's the same shit that causes people to start on not 250s, but 125cc bikes because "you need to be forced to learn to corner fast" or some dumb as hell shit.
>>16014331
>going fast and building confidence is separate from and more important than being able to fucking stop
there are no brakes on the retard train
>>16014340
Colorrite my man.
Thank me later
>>16014331
>Plus if he touches the front during a corner he'll crash
do you believe that, or are you just saying HE will if he touches the front at all?
>>16014232
300 bones is a bit much for just a bent steal.
>>16014356
>It's the same shit that causes people to start on not 250s, but 125cc bikes because "you need to be forced to learn to corner fast" or some dumb as hell shit.
>tfw for the first 8 years of so riding including motocross racing I never used the back brake
I was just a kid go easy on me
>>16014346
you learn both major methods for braking in a corner in any worthwhile motorcycle course
it's a very important skill if you want to be able to slow and stop without going off a cliff
>>16014367
Shit, the one I got for my chief was 400
But it's gonna be worth it for the long trips
>>16014356
not everyone knows how to brake hard without locking or what the limit even feels like.
In any case, if he is not needing to use all of his front brakes he obviously is not going fast enough to need all of his front brakes so whats the harm in him learning to use his rear as well?
Most novice riders i come across don't even use their rear brake at all.
>People who don't use their blinkers when changing lanes
I want to smash their fucking mirrors
>>16014414
do it then
>>16014414
Ever since I started riding I am always paranoid of people who are at my 10 and 2 merging into my lane. Even when I am driving my car I still get nervous.
>>16014413
I think you forgot the original issue here, his ABS is stopping his rear brake from locking up all the time because the rear brake provides very little braking compared to the front, and he doesn't like using the front much so he's jamming the rear brake hard to stop in time.
>>16014423
That's normal, that paranoia should never go away for your safety you should always be alert.
>>16014178
this is how I park because they said I will drop it anyway, might as well get over with it
>>16014424
true, he did already say he is going to go and practice his stops in a parking lot tomorrow though too
Please help me.... where the fuck do you all get your Yamahaâ„¢, Ducatiâ„¢ Hondaâ„¢ etc LEATHER SUITS ?
literally only ever available USED on ebay.
>>16014522
search for replica
https://www.londonleathers.co.uk/1-and-2-piece-suits/motogp-wsb-suit-range
>>16014522
ducati and BMW go into joint ventures with leather companies (Dainese and Held) to make branded leather.
If you're seeing second hand yamaha or honda suits they're probably coming from racers who get custom ones.
>>16014533
these look fucking atrociously made.

How's dbt feel about using an armored vest over top of anew armored leather jacket?
Anyone here have the extra protection or think it might help?
>>16014695
this is loriz baz's leathers after his tyre delaminated and the bike crashed going 290 km/hr down the straight.
Don't worry about extra layers of material, worry about back protectors, airbags, d3o armor etc.
>>16014700
That vest has spine protection in it.
>>16014702
If you already have leathers you don't need it then, buy a nice ce 2 certified back protector and wear it under the jacket.
Back protectors go under your leathers not over.

>>16014712

Jesus only protects you in the sense that he doesn't come to Earth with the express purpose of harming you personally. In that regard, I'm more of a savior because I'm already here (closer proximity = less of an obstacle or deterrent) and not actively harming you right this second either.
That's right, I'm shitposting with truth about how I'm objectively better than Jesus; where's my worship?

What's dbt's opinion on IXS gear?
is the Yamaha FZ6 trackable?
>>16014157
Let's talk about gear
4 season adventure jacket vs a winter jacket and a summer jacket?
I'm currently in a place that has a huge variation in temps, (from holy shit i'm in a sauna summers to snow) i'm thinking of getting some winter riding gear now that it's heading into winter, and then getting some really good full mesh summer riding gear as i plan on moving to a tropical area in a year or two anyway
So, cheap winter gear (full protection just not a lot of vents) and then really good summer gear, or really good 4 season gear? I'm thinking winter gear for now and get summer gear later
Looking at tourmaster saber 3 or 4 and get then a back protector for it, and then after winter get some really nice mesh gear
>>16015505
Of course it is senpai.
You can take older sportsbikes to several trackdays and learn a lot.
>>16015505
of course, it's just not ergonomically "ideal"
there are relatively few bikes that aren't track appropriate and they're mostly cruisers and touring bikes.

I know this might be off topic but it's very interesting for every motorsports enthusiast
>>16015515

There should be multiple speed levels at your track day so just go in the slowest group, you won't hold up anyone experienced trust me they'll just blast around your slow arse and there's nothing wrong with not being a speed demon in the slow group.

I did the 4th best time out of 15 the sport group on a 95 CBR600F. One or two trackdays more and I'll probably be invited to the Sport plus alongside with a buddy group as our times naturally start to get lower than everyone elses.
People also track all sorts of shit from R1200GSs to GS500 and so on.
Go and do it.

... what does that have to do with answering my question? I wasn't asking about materials, but if i should get a 4 seasons adventure style jacket or 2 jackets, one each for summer (mesh) and winter (thermal lined jacket)
where i am winter is cold and dry, summer is like a sauna and heavy rains are common
where i am going it's hot and wet or cool and wet, with one area being really cold in the mountains, but i could just wear a lot of under layers if i go up there in a mesh jacket, hell i could even put a coat over the motorcycle jacket.

Becoming a wizard is the best thing that ever happened to me Anon.
Having zero distractions, zero drama, zero bullshit from 15-25 pretty much set me up for life.
I'll be 32 in 5 days, own my home, two rental properties, several cars, way too many bikes, multiple businesses that only eat up around 20 hours of my week, i'll practically be retired by 35 and spend the next 20 years riding/sailing my ass around until the world until the global economy completely tanks and then probably live out my days on a little self sufficient property in Tasmania or New Zealand.

it will get below sub zero here, like negative 6 to negative 20 in the dead of winter, might not do much riding then, but the months before and after it'll still be cold and i want to get some riding in in the winter
should i just get some insulated riding jeans, or regular textile riding pants, and wear thermal underwear under them?
maybe something like this

Some currymuncher I did my licence test with was just going for restricted but the instructor told him he could go straight to unrestricted and he did.
Idea
Buy all summer gear, mesh, breathable, perfect for summer
wear extra layers on top during the winter
or is that a terrible idea?
I think i'll just get some cheap winter gear for now and buy really good summer gear in summer, because let's face it, being cold is easier to fix than being hot, and in a year or so i'll be in the tropics for at least a while
