Whenever I brake hard (rear brakes) I hear a scraping/grinding noise toward the bottom of the bike, like something is clipping. What the fuck is it? It only happens when I have to brake pretty hard.

I'm a second-year rider on an R3, started out on a Ninja 250. For any anons unfamiliar with the inside-baseball, the Ninja 250 is ranked somewhere in the 3-5 range of best bike, while the R3 and GS500 duke it out over the 1 and 2 slots.

I was always impressed by the performance of the Ninja 250, but it just isn't in the same league as my R3. The drop-off in engine performance when you leave the 250cc class is pretty steep, and it must be even steeper when you look at sub-250cc bikes. I mean this in the least arrogant way possible.

The consensus on /dbt/ is that most of the value-added comes from the additional low-end torque. I can't speak to the quality of other bikes, but the dominance of the R3 self-perpetuates pretty easily. Knowing that I'm riding the best performing bike for its class is a comforting thought.

the vast, vast majority of your stopping power comes from the front. if you have to choose on one thing to focus on right now which will keep you alive, get comfortable with that front brake and learn to apply it to the point just short of where your ABS kicks in. otherwise you will be reliant on it for the rest of your riding career -- however short that may end up being.

4 season adventure jacket vs a winter jacket and a summer jacket?


I'm currently in a place that has a huge variation in temps, (from holy shit i'm in a sauna summers to snow) i'm thinking of getting some winter riding gear now that it's heading into winter, and then getting some really good full mesh summer riding gear as i plan on moving to a tropical area in a year or two anyway

So, cheap winter gear (full protection just not a lot of vents) and then really good summer gear, or really good 4 season gear? I'm thinking winter gear for now and get summer gear later

where i am winter is cold and dry, summer is like a sauna and heavy rains are common

where i am going it's hot and wet or cool and wet, with one area being really cold in the mountains, but i could just wear a lot of under layers if i go up there in a mesh jacket, hell i could even put a coat over the motorcycle jacket.

it will get below sub zero here, like negative 6 to negative 20 in the dead of winter, might not do much riding then, but the months before and after it'll still be cold and i want to get some riding in in the winter
