like 15 kms away from my house, i wanted to blip the throttle before a corner and downshift, but upon twisting the throttle, the bike just made a weird loud clicking sound (only once though), and the engine didn't rev at all. the motor kept running though, and apart from that, everything was normal.

something similar to this happened a month agao as well, after a long ride, but the engine stalled and turned on immediately afterwards again.

Popular bikes will have a deep aftermarket available, whereas some bikes only have one or two pipes available that are worth a shit.

And unless you have EFI with a *wideband* o2 sensor, any pipe that actually has the potential to make power will need jets or a remap or a power commander or somesuch. If all you want is a better tone, a slip-on is best.

Shit, I'm so old the only retro when I began riding was Roman chariots. Retro headgear is garbage. Open face helmets are shit. Half-helmets/novelty helmets are even worse and flip off easily in a crash.

Pay a friend to kick you in the taint until the stupid passes, then get a decent full coverage helmet. My Airmanbro did a faceplant on B-40 while I was stationed in Germany. His helmet saved his face with only minor abrasions to da tip of his nose. A 3/4 wouldn't do that with any shield because no chinbar.

The clicking was probably the transmission shifting. As for the bike not revving when you blipped the throttle, it's probably because singles sometimes hesitate when blipping if your idle fuel mixture isn't perfect.

That's still a ripoff. Harnesses aren't hard to swap out and it's certainly not heavy work. Time and money to repair old fucked up shit is different, but just R&I of a recent clean harness is easy.

Buy a test light, voltmeter, various test clips, wire etc and you are most of the way to troubleshooting most any bike.

For real restos look elsewhere, and that goes for real vintage cafe racers. Restyling old non-performance bikes is fun and the little ones make good pit bikes for shows and rallys. They are also good practice for noobs learning to wrench.

You won't read about anything but stock performance bikes here because this is not a gearhead thread, it's a "motorcycle buyer and operator thread" which is different. Check out Chop Cult etc for a better atmosphere if into fabrication. If into actual performance modifications that's best addressed in brand-specific forums.

Real cafe racers are why modern sportbikes exist and were the modern sportbikes of their time. They were not typically built out of whatever commuterscooter leftovers were behind the barn, but there is some undeniably good workmanship done on the newer UJM-base pseudocafe machines.

Restoration is the hardest to do because it requires precise adherence to originality. See AMCA forums for that stuff if American, and go to one of their meets if you can no matter what you ride.
