how much of a hassle is driving a bike on stop-and-go traffic lads? i've had many hellish days on my standard trans shitbox
>>

I use my power outlet. But you can hook it up to a battery also with the alligator clamps. I think next I will buy one of those lithium powered jump start packs. They are pretty freakin' small now.
>>
>>15234727
depends how stiff your clutch is and how tall and/or heavy your bike is

i have a little 500 which decent in stop and go traffic. it's also water cooled which helps a lot
>>
>>15234727
Not really a hassle unless air cooled on a hot day. What I hate is the drivers who stop 2 car lengths behind the car in front of them at a stop light and then spend the whole wait time for the light to change creeping forward. Shit pisses me off.
>>
>>15234727

>>15234747
Air cooled bikes overheat when they don't have a moving stream of air flowing through them like when you're actively riding.

This may sound like a stupid question but can someone tell me how I am supposed to drive a ninja 250? Specifically I mean in what RPM range to shift gears and such. I shift around 4k-5k, and the bike feels slow as shit.

>ride a slow bike slow
>it's slow
A CBR300 will barely put up with shifting at those revs and it's not half as revvy as a Ninja 250.
>>
>>15234857
you can short shift if you want but usually with all ENGINES, you shift at the end of the gear (near redline). otherwise you're shifting into the next gear at a very low rpm. and yes it was kind of a dumb question.
>>
>>15234867
Not only are you no bike you've apparently never ridden in a car before either.
>>
>>15234857
>shift at redlines?
lol no.

It depends what kind of riding you're doing and how close your gears are spaced. If you're just riding around town, you can just shift when the next gear will still be high enough RPM to prevent the engine from lugging when you try to accelerate which is usually about 1.5k-3k to prevent the lugging.

If you're doing speed runs you obviously want to shift closer to red line, but before the power band drops off and your acceleration feels flat(and before you blow shit up).
>>
>tfw 175cc
>tfw no redline

i can still get around most dozers but if anyone tries to beat me i concede pretty quick
>>
>>15234880
>shifting at idle
>prevent lugging
Wat
>>
>>15234827
Unless you ride a big twin with lots of torque, you need to shift at high rpm, especially with a tiny engine.
>>
>>15234885
If your bike is idling at 3k, you have a problem.

some folks at work have tried to convince me to get a small bike (probably 250cc or so) instead of a moped to commute to work. I live less than 10 min and it's all surface streets

I'm my state, 50cc mopeds don't need special licensing or require a motorcycle endorsement on your driver's license.

I'm not worried about getting the endorsement on my driver's license, but I am worried about insurance. Does the insurance premium change depending on the bike's displacement? Or would I still be paying a decent amount?

It changes based upon displacement and several other factors. A little 250 would be super cheap to insure, if that is what you are worried about.

>>15235151
Stop in the lane, and block the traffic waiting to go the other direction from proceeding? Doesn't seem smart, especially when the sign was only changed to stop so that she could bitch about someone that doesn't hate their life.
>>
>>15234827
It's a ninja 250, it doesn't have tons of power but can still move along if you keep the revs up. If that was your video you posted you are shifting way too early if you want to keep yourself in the power band. Another 2000rpm on what you were puttering along with would feel a lot more responsive and then shift at even higher rpm than that.

Just get the bike in 2nd gear at low rpm and roll on to full throttle right up near the redline you'll feel how the power is distributed.

Unless you're trying to save fuel, don't shift up with neutral acceleration either, bike gearboxes like to shift as you are accelerating-then twitch the throttle to unload the gearbox for a split second /and pull in clutch which looked like it was happening too slow.

Keep riding and don't be afraid to rev the bike up a little, they are built to be revved to the moon just don't be silly sitting at redline in first gear all day .etc.

If top speed doesn't concern you, a different sprocket will make it feel more powerful but if you're on fast roads it'll just use more fuel and wear faster.

>>15235168

As you can see from pic related, the 250's power doesn't really start kicking up to be worth anything until around 7k, and it peaks at around 11,250-11.5k before dropping off again ever so slightly. Basically, if you're shifting around 4-5k, you're not even putting the bike into the powerband. It's a small bike with a small engine, but if you rev and shift right, it can accelerate pretty quickly and get you up to speed, you just need to learn to put it in the powerband and keep it there. I'm not saying you have to memorize that graph or anything, but just remember that you aren't getting any decent power until you're around 7k, and that it peaks at around 11.5k, so there's little to no value in passing 11.5k unless you're in 6th gear.

Really need some help guys.

First off, I'm a certified auto technician so im no fool with a tool, but still pretty green to any "serious" wrenching on motorcycles.

Short and sweet my chain/sprocket is done.
My stock gearing is 16/43, but out of every kit i could possibly find, the only thing close is a 15/43. How will that affect my speedo and mobility? Anyone have a recommendation on a kit? Sprocket material pro's and con's? Anyone have a clue where i can find stock gearing?

Bike in question is an 2002 CBR954RR

I'm in Anchorage.

Riding time is about about 5 solid months. Summer's are short, but they're glorious. 75 degrees all summer, very little rain until September.

Best part is, it doesn't ever get dark in the summer, so you've never doing any night riding.

Pic is about the level of light you have around midnight in July.

look again, not headlight decals.

>>15236320
well they've gotten rid of that on the new one, which I actually think is a bit of a shame because I've always liked the integrated lights but it does mean the tail needs to be a certain width for legal reasons so I can see why they dropped it.

Busa is generally a huge faggot bike. Honda went and set the top speed record with a normally proportioned bike and good design and Suzuki just went fuck it and puked out that fat streamliner sack of shit and got lucky when it appealed to niggers.
