A fully modded skyline GTR stands a good chance, plus modern supercars that have also had a bit of work.

It's better to just consider a skyline GTR and a Supra to be in supercar territory by default when you see one.

They might not be that modified, they might just be still on stock turbos...but chances are they're not and you're in for a hell of an ass whooping if you get cocky.

This. Whenever i see a skyline GTR, a supra or a old m3 i just assume it's not stock.

They easily hit 600 with minimal work and there's a few nightmarish ones running around that are in hypercar (i hate using that word, but think 1:1 p/w ratio and keep accelerating brutally well past 200) territory, so you have to be careful.

Based on my experience you have

>45% lightly modified (around 500hp)
>34% heavily modified (7-900hp)
>1% literally unstoppable unless you're in a 918/la ferrari/p1/koniseggggggg

So keep that in mind if one is trying to get you to go.

They're decently light, put power down well enough, decent amount of power stock (220) and have pretty immediate torque and strong gearing.

Also, if a P plater has like 5 grand they can get an aftermarket ECU and a tune, minor intake and fuel modifications on the sly and pump out well over 300. I personally know 2 p platers who were running 325hp supras that demolished any other P platers and also went toe to toe with a stock turbo supra once (too close to call)

I still consider them slow, but if i was a p plater i would not be snuffing my nose at them either.

The ones on fulls though are the ones you really gotta watch out for, as stated earlier in the thread they're literal nightmare fuel sometimes.

If that's what the 2 p platers claim they're making, they're exagurating. You're not making that sort of power out of a non turbo 3L without camshafts in the vicinity of 290-300 degrees and a red line around 8000rpm.

From experience, me dad had an auto 2002 9-3 turbo
Comfy as fuck, but the issues are expensive to fix, since the parts have to be made from a custom place in fucking sweden or something and shipped here. Finding a place that services saabs properly and knows their issues is also a problem. There was an intermittent check engine light/power failure/transmission failure me dad spent 4k on in 3 different places until I found a place that knows saabs. (Spark plugs kept fucking up, wiring was redone, and more shit than I can remember was done, but the other cunts couldn't figure out what was wrong with it.)
Later the transmission developed a similar but different issue where the car would start in 3rd, eventually that got fixed
Then it fucked up again and the car would violently shudder if you accelerated from a stop

All up you end up spending more money than the car is worth in repairs, but you can't sell it when it fucks up because you'll lose practically all value on it, and you don't end up selling when it runs well because it's so damn comfy and nice to drive, but you know it is only a temporary thing until the next big issue happens, then the one after that.

It's a dilemma car, anon.

I'd say unlikely. However, if you were to cop a defect for some other reason, the pit inspection bay will check for licensed vin and engine numbers, warranting a swap back to original.
Also, I think you're underestimating what's involved in an engine swap in the first place.

If you're looking at atmo engines in an effort to fly under the radar, why would you not simply buy the vehicle that came with the motor outright? As opposed to going through the expense and potential (and likely) ongoing gremlins for the end result being something that's not only illegal, but likely slower than your ute?

Sounds like it depends on the luck of the draw. You could get one that gives you few issues or one you end up paying out the ass to fix.
But I'm still really drawn to them. You're getting a lot of car for the price; super comfy, safe, fast and practical. The fact is I like them, and that almost seems like it's worth the increased cost.
