fucking it up is part of the learning process.
ask any mechanic how much stuff he fucked up before he figured out how to wrench properly.

Last week I wanted to do an oil change on my gfs car so I drive it around a bit to warm it up then jack it up and find it needs a 12mm hex key socket to drain the oil.

Now I know I have a set of those. Could I find it? I turned the whole fucking shed and house upside down and couldn't find them, so then have to go out and buy some more, so fucking irritating and took all day just for oil and brake pads.
>>
>>14700319
>Expensive shit though.

You can sometimes get away with cheap ebay shit if you need a weird socket just for one job or somethign like that.
>>
>>14700319
be mindful of where you put your money, make sure what you get has a lifetime warranty, its worth the extra couple bucks for your high use tools.
big stuff like large crescent wrenches, channel locks and prybars that dont get much use can be had from harbor freight since its cheap and you likely wont need them enough to wear them out or break them.
>>
>>14700320
Obviously not quick enough on the draw with your tool, m8.

Well so far I've only bought a small socket set and a couple of torque wrenches. Just going with whatever has the best reviews on Amazon for the most part and a reputable name if possible.

the big ones are 1/5th scale and cost about $1600 new before any mods but are only worth about half that in trade or sale.

Possibly hydrolocking, in that case would likely need to replace connecting rod(s), crankshaft bearings, maybe even crankshaft and piston(s). Also possible damage to valvetrain.

Depends on what bike you're on. I pretty much don't notice the wind at all unless there's a huge storm on my main bike. On my work bike light crosswinds on the highway can blow me into another lane.

Consequently weather doesn't really affect my riding now though.

Biking really isn't that dangerous if you aren't an idiot. Have spent the last couple hours on youtube watching gopro bike crashes and probably 75% are caused by stupidly excessive speed and the rest are by the rider being either a noob or just idiotic. Sup /o/
Been a while since ive been on but i need some help. So i have a 1969 cl350finally got i running decent but now after i ride it for about 20 minutes it seems to get kinda hot and doesnt want to idle, or the idle changes drastically. It gets so bad that if i am coming to a stop and engage the clutch it will die if i dont give it any gas, any ideas??
>>
>>14700877
heat sensitive air leak or you dont have your jetting right yet. how does it run when cold, warm and hot?
>>
>>14700881
It runs perfect when cold or warm, just after about 15 mins of riding around town i can hear the idle start to change and then it just gets worse and worse, so if its a heat sensitive air leak would i have to get the bike hot first then spray wd40 or carb cleaner, i tried that but the bike wasnt very hot, so i didnt find much
>>
>>14700901
well you can pull the carb and boot and inspect it for cracks or signs of air sneaking around part of it.
have you set the valves on it yet? if theyre too tight it can make it run like shit and even burn the valves
>>
>>14700877
If those are the original rubber boots holding the carbs on, probably time for replacements. Sounds like a vacuum leak.
>>
>>14700909
I was going to do the valves this weekend, but it runs nice and quite and perfect when i first start it up, thats whats confusing me, the longer i ride it the worse and worse it gets
>>
>>14700926
everythign will change size as the engine warms up, you have multiple parts made of steel carried by aluminum and they expand at different rates.
the carb boot would still be my prime suspect but dont skip a valve check.
>>
>>14700858
>According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2006, 13.10 cars out of 100,000 ended up in fatal crashes. The rate for motorcycles is 72.34 per 100,000 registered motorcycles. Motorcycles also have a higher fatality rate per unit of distance travelled when compared with automobiles. Per vehicle mile traveled, motorcyclists' risk of a fatal crash is 35 times greater than a passenger car. In 2004, figures from the UK Department for Transport indicated that motorcycles have 16 times the rate of serious injuries compared to cars.

>>
>>14700835
wana hear about the time i got brain damage?
>>
>>14700942
Hard to say. If you adjust for things like that you can pretty much guarantee the rate would still be higher than cars. You're invisible to other road users after all.

The rates aren't as dramatic but still follow the same trend in Australia which uses LAMS. 4% of the vehicles registered were Motorcycles yet they represented 17% of the road death toll in 2013.

A handful of stuff. Because I wasn't at fault I get everything for free including physio and all that. The big one that helps me think is Modavigil. I have a few different painkillers depending on how bad that is (tore a muscle in my back in half). Panadeine Forte, Tramadol, Targin, and Endone. Also have Valium and Imovane for use as required.

I'm only really taking Panadeine Forte and the Modavigil at the moment. Get too much pain in my back to do much otherwise. Haven't had a Targin or Endone in months now though.

>>14701144
It is for narcolepsy. I can't really explain exactly why it works but it definitely helps me put my thoughts together. I imagine Dexedrine would have a similar effect but I'm hardly going to be given that haha.

In short, just wanted to make sure that my money isn't going down the drain.

Probably gonna buy this btw:

Injuries like that suck period though. Broken bones are a complete pain in the ass.

Yeah I'm off both now for the most part. There's some rule where you can only have three scripts in a row before you have to cease them anyway but I'm exempt from that since I have TN (Tic Douloureux/Suicide Disease). Made it particularly hard to get off them since I know I could've pretty much taken them forever for free.

most likely, the piston caught and pitched in the just, or it dropped a valve.

I'm going to go look at a 2002 Ninja 250 this weekend, but I don't have my motorcycle endorsement, so I'll have to have my dad or someone ride it and let me know if it shifts properly and all that. That's assuming the thing starts. The seller claims it just needs a carb clean and tune up. What else should I look for on the bike?

Alright /dbt/, if there was one piece of advice to give a new rider about riding, mastering your motorcycle, or wrenching on your bike, what would it be?
>When it's below freezing, places where cars idle will slowly develop black ice from the water from the mufflers.
>>
>>14701930
come to utah. come join us in pissing off the Mormons
>>
>>14701937
ofc mastering your motorcycle

if bike gets fucked up, you can get it to someone to fix it, but you cannot get someone to fix your riding but yourself
>>
>>14701944
how much does it cost, say, if i fall and slide on the bike? what usually gets broken? the mirror and handlebar? and side scratched/dented? whats it cost to fix all that?
>>
>>14701952
all depends. some crashes result in next to no damage, some crashes can write off your bike.
thats why you get insurance.

I was actually thinking about trading in my FJ-09 for a brand new DRZ400. The problem is I'm 5'9 king of manlets and the DR650's 34in seat height is perfect for me. The DRZ is a bit bigger and while it's doable, I feel more comfortable on the 650. Plus, I need to do about an hour worth of highway riding in order to reach any dirt and I imagine the 650 is superior in the regard

Noo. LOL. They aren't anymore expensive than any other bike in their class. They're reliable as hell. Aircooled, belt drive, no need for valve adjustments, simple. EFI and ABS are the most sophisticated things on them.
Outdated...sure, like most V-twins I guess. If you really think an engine configuration needs to be new to not be outdated...but that leaves a lot of engines outdated. Like inline 4s, V4's, Inline 6s, and flat twins.

>marginally less throttle and a lot more weight toward the front

I'm no expert but it looked like a lot of those launches were the result of the rider not compensating for the incline shifting their weight toward the back of the bike and getting a free wheelie out of the deal. Rider falls off the back and the bike has enough momentum/grip to keep going without them.

Daily reminder

1. At the rise of the hand by Policeman, stop rapidly.
Do not pass him by or otherwise disrespect him.

2. When a passenger of the foot, hooves in sight, tootel the horn

trumpet melodiously at first. If he still obstacles your passage,

tootel him with vigor and express by word of mouth, warning Hi, Hi.

3. Beware of the wandering horse that he shall not take
fright as you pass him. Do not explode the exhaust box at him.

Go soothingly by.

4. Give big space to the festive dog that makes sport
in roadway. Avoid entanglement of dog with wheel spokes.

5. Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the
skid demon! Press the brake foot as you roll around
the corners, and save the collapse and tie up.
