I feel like I might have given a bad explanation, but let me clarify.
You can both quickly up and downshift very quickly. Your rpm should ALWAYS be matching the speed during any shift, otherwise your bike will lurch due to the mismatch of rpm (at that gear) for the bike's speed. When upshifting this is a no-brainer. You reach your shift point, and you shift into the next gear.
When downshifting you also need to be at the right rpm. This usually means you're going to pull in the clutch, quickly 'blip' the throttle to gain some rpm, downshift, and let the clutch out. Since you're going to be in a lower gear, you will need the extra rpm to match your speed. Then the engine brake will slow you down. It also can be done very quickly. It becomes muscle memory. You need to know how hard to blip for the speed you're currently going and the gear you're shifting down to.

It's usually wiser to engine brake almost the whole way until you come to a complete stop. It's just better to have the bike in gear should anything happen. When coming to a full stop, I will rev match and use front brake down to 2nd gear, and the last 20 ft or so I will usually just hold the clutch in and brake to a stop.

Simply holding the clutch in, clicking down to first, and only using brake to reach a stop could leave you vulnerable. If for some reason you need to accelerate, you need to do a lot of work to get your bike in the proper gear for your speed and give the right throttle.

Forgot to finish replying.
Do you mean close the throttle? If you preload an upshift and continue to give throttle, you won't shift. If you quickly close throttle, the next gear will be engaged, and you reapply throttle.

Clutchless downshifting can also be done in the exact reverse. Preload a downshift, quickly blip throttle, and continue to give throttle. Haven't tried it myself however.

Who's riding today?

So I still haven't got smooth shifting down on my Yamaha FZ-07. I'm still very new to the bike so I don't expect to be amazing, but I'm fairly lurchy when shifting and I don't like it. I mean shit, I'm even lurch a bit on upshifts which is kind of embarrassing.

Reading the forums, it appears as though the FZ-07 is designed to have excessive engine braking and lots of newer riders are pretty jerky with shifts.

How do I git gud /dbt/?

Yes, when you close throttle a bit, the next gear will get sucked up. I ride an FZ6 and it has a notoriously clunky gearbox, these tips helped me smooth my shifting a lot, but there is no replacement for seat time. Getting to know the behavior of your bike will teach you how to do it. smoothly. Then it's just muscle memory.
What gears were giving you trouble? 1st gear on my bike has got harsh on/off EFI, and can be lurchy just from using throttle. I'm considering getting one of these throttle tamers. The cam has an increasing radius so it is less sensitive at low throttle, reducing harsh EFI. It's pretty much a mechanical solution opposed to flashing the ECU.

I'm 95% sure the lurching is caused by my inexperience and stupidity. Not to try and be a dip stick but i would only recommend clutchless up shifting if you are revving the bike out to its limits, it will just grind gears otherwise and even then if you are even a couple hundred RPM off the rev range you will do a fair bit of damage to which ever gear you just tried to shift into by putting immense amounts of pressure on the gear bearings giving them the possibility of shattering and going through all of the gears turning them into nice smooth discs because dem bearings are high speed steel yo.

While I support going with the cheaper option, there's no way you realistically expect the action cams to compare with the GoPro 4's quality. Their frame rate, resolution, and night time video capture are pretty much unbeatable for the price. While the black edition is way too spendy (I think still $500), the silver edition at $300 is very reasonable for what you get.

Again, nothing wrong with going the cheaper route, but it will not compare.

They did some proper off roading through sand, swamps and roads which could barely be called roads. Not really surprising that they fell often. Also Obi Wan said himself he's not much of an off road rider so there's that too.
