I thought we just had 15-20 years of no warming, and then some science nerds said the sun was set to enter a dormant period by 2030 leading to a mini ice age.

Fucking make up your minds.

I honestly think /news/ should be in some kind of mascot or scenery role until we get more people.

I think we are the smallest of all the recent trial boards.

Perhaps we could have a unique special stadium and pitch made for us, or maybe /news/men could be some of the refs or shown on the sideline taking pictures or something.

Just my 2 cents.

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/hillary-clinton-emails-contained-info-above-top-secret-ig-n499886

>Emails from Hillary Clinton's home server contained information classified at levels higher than previously known, including a level meant to protect some of the most sensitive U.S. intelligence, according to a document obtained by NBC News.

>In a letter to lawmakers, the intelligence community's internal watchdog says some of Clinton's emails contained information classified Top Secret/Special Access Program, a secrecy designation that includes some of the most closely held U.S. intelligence matters.

>Two American intelligence officials tell NBC News these are not the same two emails from Clinton's server that have long been reported as containing information deemed Top Secret.

>The letter doesn't make clear whether Clinton sent or received the emails in question, but in the past, emails containing classified information have tended to have been sent to Clinton, not written by her.

>The new revelation underscores the extent to which the email classification issue could continue to dog Clinton, as State Department and intelligence officials review sensitive information within messages that were blacked out before being released to the public.

>Clinton, who tops national primary polling as a Democratic presidential candidate, has repeatedly said that none of the information she sent or received while secretary of state was marked classified, and nothing has emerged to contradict that. But it's become clear that classified information bled into the emails, which were sent over unencrypted channels open to interception by foreign intelligence agencies.

>Charles McCulllough, the intelligence community's inspector general, said in a letter to the chairmen of the Senate intelligence and foreign affairs committees that he has received sworn declarations from an intelligence agency he declined to name.
60 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>18095
>The declarations cover "several dozen emails containing classified information determined by the IC element to be at the CONFIDENTIAL, SECRET and TOP SECRET/SAP information."

>An intelligence official familiar with the matter told NBC News that the special access program in question was so sensitive that McCullough and some of his aides had to receive clearance to be read in on it before viewing the sworn declaration about the Clinton emails.

>Clinton's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

>While she was secretary of state from 2009 to 2013, Clinton conducted government business over private email. The arrangement was particularly unusual because the email system relied not on Yahoo or Google but her own server, which she kept in her home in Westchester County, N.Y.

>The State Department is under court order to release Clinton's government-related emails under the Freedom of Information Act. Clinton has turned over about 55,000 emails, and almost all have been released, though they have been heavily censored. The last batch is due to be made public Jan. 29.

>While Republicans have criticized Clinton over the issue, her defenders have pointed out that the State Department has long faced the problem of how to communicate about sensitive matters. Unlike the CIA, State does most of its business over an unclassified email system, and many officials do not have easy access to a classified messaging system.

>State Department spokesman John Kirby said that the State Department is "focused on and committed to releasing former Secretary Clinton's emails in a manner that protects sensitive information. No one takes this more seriously than we do. We have said repeatedly that we anticipate more upgrades throughout our release process. Our FOIA review process is still ongoing. Once that process is complete, if it is determined that information should be classified as Top Secret we will do so."

tl;dr Hillary is boned.

yawn

much ado about nothing, of course this is the version of the story that Drudge links to that doesn't tell the full story.

But when you look up what really happened, you find out that the emails were not top secret when they were on her server and were only classified after the information left the state department, separately by either the military or by the CIA.

>"This is the same interagency dispute that has been playing out for months, and it does not change the fact that these emails were not classified at the time they were sent or received," he said. "It is alarming that the intelligence community [inspector general], working with Republicans in Congress, continues to selectively leak materials in order to resurface the same allegations and try to hurt Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign. The Justice Department's inquiry should be allowed to proceed without any further interference."

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/hillary-clinton-had-emails-on-server-more-classified-than-top-secret/
>>
>>18108
Classified information doesn't have to be labeled as classified to be classified, it either is or it isn't based on the nature of the intelligence, and only the agency that the information in question can declassify said information. Treating it in any other manner would lead to wide scale leaks that completely annihilate our information network in every way.

Additionally, SAP information is the kind of thing that gets people real life killed if it leaks, as it's the absolute most sensitive information we have and could pertain to any number of crucial operations, sources, or operatives, who's lives and success are in the balance if anyone should get their hands on the information.

Also, you're quoting Hillary's campaign press secretary, so nice totally biased quote there sport.

Bread Face hasn’t revealed her name, but we do know that she’s 27 years old and works as a copywriter by day. With over 40,000 Instagram followers and thousands of likes on each video, her bizarre bread smashing habit has managed to catch the attention of various magazines like Buzzfeed, Vice’s Munchies, and The New York Times. Obviously, they’ve all had one common question to ask her: Why is she doing this?

Speaking to Munchies, Bread Face said: “It started over the summer. I bought a green tea roll cake from a Korean bakery and I started off gently powdering my face with it. It felt so good.” So she just kept going with other types of bread until it eventually became her thing. “I like the way it feels!” she told Buzzfeed. “And thought maybe it would make someone happy out there.”

Turns out, Bread Face was right – her first video involving a potato roll, posted six months ago, became a big hit. And since then, her string of completely random, utterly pointless bread videos set to carefully curated background scores have caught the attention of thousands. In fact, #breadfacing is a major trend now, one that has inspired several other people to smash their own faces into bread loaves and post the footage online.

Despite her massive following, many of Bread Face’s fans are disappointed when they get to know that she started the practice on a whim, and that it isn’t a performance art or fetish she derives pleasure from. “I think this always disappoints people but there was actually very little thought that went into this,” she told Munchies. “I wanted to put my face in bread, and so I did.”

“Breadfaceblog is what it is,” she added. “If it’s something people laugh at, roll their eyes at, or get turned on by – that’s all great.” So although her videos receive bizarre reactions, it doesn’t really bother her at all.

> A group of Edmond residents filed a lawsuit Monday against a dozen energy companies, claiming their saltwater disposal wells were in part to blame for earthquakes that hit central Oklahoma in recent weeks.

>The lawsuit, filed in Oklahoma County District Court, said the companies acted negligently and their use of disposal wells constituted an "ultrahazardous activity." The nine homeowners said disposal wells operated by the companies "caused or contributed" to earthquakes.

http://thinkprogress.org/climate/2016/01/12/3738417/oklahoma-earthquake-residents-lawsuit/

>In the lawsuit, filed in Oklahoma County court, the residents focus on two earthquakes — of 4.3 and 4.2 magnitude — that struck Edmond on December 29 and January 1. The plaintiffs say they suffered damage from the earthquakes, and that the energy companies were “negligent, careless, and reckless” in their treatment of the earthquake risks surrounding wastewater injection.

>“As a direct and proximate result of defendants’ negligence, plaintiffs have suffered and will continue to suffer severe and permanent damage to their persons and property,” the lawsuit states. This damage includes “cracked and broken interior and exterior walls” and “movement of the foundations beneath their dwellings.” These damages have taken a toll on the residents psyches, too, causing “mental and emotional anguish, fear, and worry.”

>Wastewater injection has been tied to increased earthquake risk before. The U.S. Geological Survey said in a report last year that many of the earthquakes that have peppered the Midwest since 2009 could be linked to oil and gas companies’ practice of injecting their wastewater deep underground. If wastewater is pumped into a fault, scientists think, it could cause the fault to slip, causing an earthquake. Researchers have linked wastewater injection to earthquakes in Texas and Ohio.

>Lisa Griggs says she just moved back into her home after it was gutted because of earthquake damage.

>Now, she's ready to start a fight against the people she says started it all.

>"There used to be when you came in here, all of these walls were cracked, and the floor here, there was this giant valley," Griggs said.

>Now, it seems like only memories for Griggs.

>"Forty percent of this foundation was separated from its mortar and you can see that right here, see these cracks? That's where the separation was," Griggs says.

>Her entire home was gutted and she said she had to move out in July.

>"When the engineer came out, I didn't understand it was this bad. He found over $75,000 worth of damage to the house," Griggs says.

>She was one of the lucky ones to have insurance.

>"I got earthquake insurance early on, a lot of people can't buy it now or can't afford the deductibles," Griggs said.

>SandRidge Energy Inc., the largest oil producer in Kansas and largest disposer of waste water in Oklahoma, is refusing to abide by regulations designed to prevent earthquakes, according to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission.

>SandRidge would be the first of more than 100 fracking companies in Oklahoma to refuse to implement the commission’s recommendations. One other smaller company resisted its recommendations in August but quickly complied after meeting with lawyers, according to commission spokesman Matt Skinner.

>“A lot of the plans that we issue are technically voluntary,” Skinner said. “But it’s always been done with the understanding that if you don’t we’ll go to court.”
>>
The energy companies have successfully spun this into a "liberal vs conservative" issue. Nothing will happen unless a bunch of poor people can prove to a bought and paid for shill court that hydrofracking causes earthquakes. They will be called hippie libtards and sent home. That's why the companies frack in poor red states.

I think it's really telling how this story is all but buried in local media and not picked up on by the AP or another major wire service. Corporate media generally does whatever BigCoalOil&Gas wants as long as nobody dies in a collapsed mine.

Turning 16 is considered a milestone. In many states, it means being able to drive, pay taxes and work like an adult.

>"A lot of young people feel very powerless and they don't feel that their voice matters," Blackwell says, "and that's part of the reason why there might be this absence of young participation as adults."

>In the 2014 elections, voter turnout among people under age 30 hit its lowest level in 40 years, according to the Center for Information and Research on Learning and Engagement.

I think this is a really good idea because we are under-represented until we're in middle age.

Gloucester Police Chief Leonard Campanello said the city of Gloucester reported four overdoses over 24 hours. “The good news is all were brought back to us by the increased availability and proliferation of Narcan,” said Campanello in the statement.”

But Campanello continued, passionately speaking to those suffering from heroin addiction. “You are important and worth it,” he said. “There is no incentive or punishment that this disease responds to… There is recovery and a new life that can and should be yours.”

The chief mentioned how between Wednesday and Friday, the city of Brockton reported 35 overdoses.

Campanello reinforced the fact that his police department is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help the community. In March of 2015, Campanello said Gloucester had seen four deaths related to heroin and dozens of opiate related overdoses. Since then, the department shifted from arresting addicts to helping them.

"My officers think more about that one death than about the 375 people that have been through the doors," said Campanello in an interview.

On May 2, 2015, the department unveiled the ANGEL program. Any addict who walked into the Gloucester Police Department with the remainder of their drug equipment or drugs who asked for help would not be charged. Instead, police would walk them through the system toward detox and recovery and assign them an “angel” who will be their guide.

As a result, the ANGEL program has been adopted by nearly 40 departments in nine states according to Campanello in November 2015.

"We've helped a lot of people yes, but there are still a lot of other people out there suffering and dying," said Campanello.

I disagree with forcing heroin addicts to go threw rehabilitation the rated of recidivism is around 94 percent. It's not fair to the addicts it's like telling a bird to be a dog. The fact is that most heroin treatment revolves around getting them hooked on legal but still damaging methadone.
>>
Id say let them use heroin. And if they od well they found their way out of that hell they have been living in. Until we find a way to cease the neural chemistry that fuels addiction it's pretty much a lost cause

>More people in Europe are dying than are being born, according to a new report co-authored by a Texas A&M University demographer. In contrast, births exceed deaths, by significant margins, in Texas and elsewhere in the U.S., with few exceptions.

Texas A&M Professor of Sociology Dudley Poston, along with Professor Kenneth Johnson, University of New Hampshire, and Professor Layton Field, Mount St. Mary's University, published their findings in Population and Development Review this month.
The researchers find that 17 European nations have more people dying in them than are being born (natural decrease), including three of Europe's more populous nations: Russia, Germany and Italy. In contrast, in the U.S. and in the state of Texas, births exceed deaths by a substantial margin.
"In 2013 in Texas, for example, there were over 387,000 births compared to just over 179,000 deaths," says Poston. "The only two states in the U.S. with more deaths than births are the coal mining state of West Virginia and the forest product state of Maine."
The research focuses on the prevalence and dynamics of natural decrease in the counties and county-equivalents of Europe and the United States in the first decade of the 21st century (2000-2009).
Findings reveal that 58 percent of the 1,391 counties of Europe had more deaths than births compared to just 28 percent of the 3,141 counties of the U.S.
