>>
>>74920787
I did it wrong for sure. It's a Washburn J9. I couldn't find pliers to help setup the ends to attach to axles so many of the strings wouldn't go all the way up without bending to the side.
The damage is kind of done and I'll keep playing on them even though it looks bad. My question is what effects will this cause (tuning issues, neck problems, early breakage, etc)

Are you using the tone and volume knobs? I'm always surprised by the amount of people who complain about their guitars sounding too bright/shrill/thin/whatever and being surprised when I tell them they shouldn't leave their controls dimed all the time.

Other than that, mess with your amp settings until you find a sound you like. If you still can't, make you're you're using the right pot/cap values for the guitar/pickup.

No it won't. There's too much broscience in the guitar world. No pickup magnet is strong enough to cause any kind of negative effect on the stings. This guy is a major asshole, but he does a good job demonstrating why:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzal-vP7TfQ

Some issues can happen if you raise/lower your pickup to bad position, but that has to do with the string being in a bad spot in the pickup's magnetic field. The magnet itself isn't doing anything to the strings.

How did he rate as a guitarist? Listening to Soundgarden and then watching videos of them live I was really surprised by which parts were actually his and not Thayil's. What's the best electric guitar you can buy for ~$125
>>
>>74935632

What do you count as barring?

4 or more strings with one finger is what id say is barring and honestly if you're playing with a band barre chords are not really necessary pretty much anywhere in pop/rock/jazz music.

Its more up to choice and the sound you're looking for out of the chords, but regular barre chords sound like shit.

If you play 6 string barre chords and strum all the strings on an electric guitar, i have news for you.

It sounds like shit.

Pick your notes and think about what you're playing.

>>
>>74930568

How and what do you practice? If you find the stuff you're doing starting to bore you, try playing something completely different, Improvising, making riffs or songs or whatever.

Honestly, its supposed to be fun. If it's not, i dont think its worth doing. No one is going to enjoy your playing if you dont enjoy it. Might sound harsh, but if you've been playing an hour a day for 7 months id say you do enjoy it, so you just need to dig deeper.

Also its okay to take a break. Every teacher ever says taking a week off after practicing like hell is nothing but good. Trust me, that week will improve your playing more then anything you could practice.

Also, weed.

What if you're in a guitar duo performing rhythm while someone takes lead. What if bass is extending the chord further with higher ranged notes, what if you want 6 string arpeggio of a triad to make melodies. Your bassist doesn't have to play a root when you play the 6th string. If your bassist is keen on playing in the same range your covering for a brief instant, you can work out waiting till you've ascended a little. Nope, barre chords have no use in a band.
I play acoustic guitar, not electric. I use barre chords. If I'm playing lead I'm not gonna use barre chords. I'm in doing a little chord melody I'm not gonna play barre chords. If I'm perhaps doing rhythm with lots of muted strumming for a percussive effect I might want to play barre chords. You can play plenty of extended chords beyond just maj or min7s with barres, if perhaps I need to slack to leave room for a bass to take the lower range I will. But you're some black and white nigger trying to persuade all these people barre chords are useless, not all music is performed with a fucking band pleb, not all barre chords are triads. Barre chords lend themselves to different things, maybe you're fucking handicapped. Probably only capable of pentatonic scales and top 40 music is what you consider playing in a band to be.
>>
do you guys still ever do cover threads? those were really fun last summer desu
>>
>>74940378
no one in /gg/ play guitar fag
>>
>>74936425
a barre is just when your finger makes a barre over multiple strings even if it's only 2
>>
>>74936425
And barring is using a finger for any more than 1 string on adjacent frets. Plenty of jazz chords utilize this. some even use index to bar two different frets on the top 2 strings, like a major 3 interval but using your index finger angled. Music is limitless. If your covering songs in a band setting looking at chord sheets, play chords in a suitable range. Triads only need three strings, 7th chords only need 4. Obviously. But if you're making music explore and be creative. Don't just make blanket statements about barre chords. Don't just assume people are only playing electric. Music has an infinite amount of possibilities. Fuck, you can make your bassist and you playing a harmony in a low register sound good with a barre chord if you're good at music and creative.

Lots of amps have headphone jacks but if you need something for low volume playing, yamaha makes the "thr" amps that are specifically for that.

The guy a fucking joke, but I appreciate his willingness to approach guitar building/repair issues scientifically instead of relying on the voodoo that most luthiers do. I mean, I would love it if Dan Erlewine started making mythbusting videos like that, but for the moment we're kind of stuck with assholes like him and Scoot Grove, which is sad, but it's not like they're wrong. Are you saying his experiment didn't support his conclusion?

Yeah, Cornell was a surprisingly good guitarist. A lot of their live performances show that he could easily keep up with Kim, and they actually do dual lead a lot, sometimes while Chris is singing. Which is kind of funny, because in interviews, he always said he could barely play. I'd definitely rate him as above average, and probably way better than most singers who take up guitar.

This. Also, what sound do you want?

In general, I recommend the Swollen Pickle; it's a Big Muff copy that has controls to alter basically every aspect of its sound. So, it can do a reasonable approximation of pretty much any fuzz sound you want.
