Is /mu/ better or worse now than it was in 2014?
>>
worse obviously
>>
>>73395624
Oh it's worse. At least those old threads were actually music related.
>>
Worse. Knowledgeable tripfags have been driven out by plebs.
>>
it's pretty much exactly the same
obviously people will say it's worse now but nothing's really changed
>>
>>73395702
>knowledgeable tripfags
>>
>>73395624
is this fucking shit real? seriously people prefer taytay to the genius of plant?
>>
>>73395815
And this was before 1989 came out
>>
>>73395815
Plant is a sham and copied all of his good songs from lesser bands
>>
Considerably worse.
The median age of the people who post here gets lower with every day.
You can just see in the sorts of threads that get made here nowadays that the vast majority of the people posting on here are children. I reckon the average /mu/tant at this point is like 15 years old.
>>
>>73395846
See, this >>73395815 is what I'm talking about for example. This guy is underage. You can just tell. It's obvious
>>
Most of the newer people probably don't know who CLT is soooo I guess you could say both.

>>73395702
I haven't been on /mu/ reg since late '14. Are there even any recurring tripfags anymore?

But really, /mu/ had its pretty bad phase in '14 and the bit of '15 I caught. It definitely seems less retarded than back then. But at the same time way less active and diverse. I don't really see as much diff music be talked about.
>>
>>73395846
You seem to know what's up, can you confirm/deny my hunch?
>>73395878
>>
>>73395702
this is the problem. We need more people who call people out in meaningful ways and actually "moderate" the content of the board.
>>73395749
i'm going to assume you weren't around back then but it kept away a lot of the inane bullshit that gets posted here now.
>>
>>73395846
I would agree with this. It fits with the "lol i get to be an asshole and troll for fun" vibe that posters have now. People don't want to discuss music anymore, they just want to rile people up.

mu has always been harsh but now it's just because these kids think its funny to be racist, sexist, whatever on here because it's anonymous.
>>
This is the only board who sucks Kendrick/Kanye dick
>>
>>73396011
Well, it is a music board
>>
>>73395624
/mu/ has been shit ever since I started browsing 4chan back in 2008, thus your question is shit.
>>
>>73395702
>>73395878
>>73395968
>>73395994

all of this.

I would say 2014 is the last time I can remember this place actually being good specifically.

Actual conversations about music were pretty easy to find or get started on here, and I feel like people have started taking the dick measuring contest on musical taste a lot more seriously than they used to. I kind of feel like most of /mu/ unironically thinks they are "patricians" as if that's something that actually exists or matters, whereas people used to be a lot more transparently openly joking when it came to that bullshit.
>>
>>73396218
also /pol/ crossposters have ruined the board by spewing autism all over the place and not being able to actually talk about music ever.
>>
this place hasn't been good since 2009
>>
>>73395815
^^^
nobody tell him
>>
>>73396259
Somebody knows what's up... /mu/ has struggled to be a good board for years and has always failed to attain any level of sophistication or intelligence in discussion about music. I'm not even sure why I'm here today except to see what the plebs had to say about the new Lorde album....
>>
>>73395624
Worse, but to be fair, Zeppelin is pretty awful.
>>73395704
>but nothing's really changed
Board went from ironic to post ironic
>>
>>73396246
Is there any board that has not been ruined by /pol/ crossposters?
>>
>>73396319
There is not, no.
>>
/mu/ is shit ever since I joined this site, I don't even know why I come here - at least on /tv/ there are some funny threads once in a while.
>>
it's just an anonymous r/indieheads, literally. And they just had a poll aboout demographics and it's what you think, 16- 19 year old white kids in school, who don't rrally try listening to new stuff and browse p4k. you can even see this on any music or /mu/ related FB page. All underage kiddies who are obsessed with memes and being shoegaze sad boys. never expanding and never going to stop worshipping radiohead and /mu/core
>>
>>73395624
Now? Wasn't 2014 only like, 3 years ago. Holy fuck.

Anyway, I was there for those threads, fun shit. Also: worse.
>>
>>73396358
sad because this format lends itself to discussion much better than a place like reddit's, but at the same time a voting system would weed out all of the bait.

neither are perfect since there you can't even participate if you aren't one of the first posters in a discussion.
>>
>>73396358
See I actually think this is a stupid post. "/mu/core" isn't a thing, it's basically a dumbshit term used to refer to any popular "indie" artist. There is nothing specific about /mu/ to shit that gets called /mu/core.

That's always been the most discussed music on here. And it is good music, I don't really see the issue.

There's always been good discussions about other music here though, I've found more obscure music I would have never known existed otherwise from here.
>>
>>73395994
>It fits with the "lol i get to be an asshole and troll for fun" vibe that posters have now. People don't want to discuss music anymore, they just want to rile people up.
>>73396186
Case in point. Just look at this mess.
>>
>>73396414
>I don't really see the issue
because new shit comes out EEVERY SINGLE DAY that isn't fucking indie, no one fucking branches out once they hear /mu/core. this is a fucking music board, there should be new discussion of new shit everyday, not seeing the same damn 10 albums every fucking day. This board can be so much fucking more than god awful shit posts and beating a dead horse.
>>
>>73396595
That has literally always happened though. And people do discuss new things that come out every day. It might not be what you want to discuss, but they do. Start a thread if you want to talk about something different.
>>
>>73396720
>And people do discuss new things that come out every day
were? Not here? this doesn't happen unless it's a meme or flavour of the week like the lorde album. MAYBE /bleep/ talks about something new or /daily/ sometimes, but that's it. It's not the whole fucking board. People are better of going to the library, the vinyl community or podcasts than go to any fucking music forum
>>
>>73395624
he's right. Speak now is her only great album.
>>
>>73396720

Been here on and off since 2012.
It essentially boils down to this >>73395846
Taste becomes so much more homogenized from one year to another, the only explanation I can discern is an upward sloping turnover rate; more people are coming here at 15/16 having stumbled upon the /mu/core chart somewhere and leave 2-3 years later. Mind you, with the canonical essentials under their belt and a clearer idea of the elements they appreciate from each.
The problem is that /mu/ doesn't facilitate anything of value that would make sticking around worthwhile, provided the sensibilities for solo music exploration. There's no discourse, there's no original humor at all, and no board culture. You can attribute the problem in part to negligent moderation, but it has a lot more to do with the accessibility of music as an art form that attracts hobbyists of a more lazy / passive mode of consumption, thus alienating the more intensely devoted niche. Think about it this way; are you more likely to encounter a figure skating pseud or a music 'poser'?
Anyways, /mu/ in 2017 is worse than it was in 2014 and it's only getting worse.
It's ok, though. Probably for the better that it go away at this point.
>>
>>73395624
Well, since Taytay is hated by almost everyone here now, I'd say it's considerably worse.
>>
>>73395845
If you think that then you've listened to nothing of theirs past their first two albums.
>>
>>73395624
Still the same garbage board since 2010. It's slowed down considerably since the peak shitposting years though.
>>
>>73395846
t. underage metalfag that was born in le wrong generation
>>
>>73398702
elaborate on how you came to this conclusion
>>
i miss the taylor swift general bros, even tho i only started posting in 2014
>>
>>73398702
How would you then explain this?
>It fits with the "lol i get to be an asshole and troll for fun" vibe that posters have now. People don't want to discuss music anymore, they just want to rile people up.
>>
>>73398800
there needs to be a pop general.

but then knowing mu every thread about anything people would try to say they need to go to /pop/ bc they just learned that pop can have a broader meaning in their freshman level music appreciation class.

Grimes threads = worse
>>
>>73395624
it gets worse everyday, as >>73395846 said. on every board the average age has gone way down. /pol/ made 4chan too popular and well known with 14-year-old redditors. a good chunk of the people on /fa/ these days are from r/thedonald, i shit you not

every board has been abandoned. all the good anons and trips moved to discord and only lurk 4chan every once in a while to see if it has gotten worse. it's been that way for a good few years now
>>
>>73398812
I used to try and talk about music all the time, and still do time to time..fucking around and memeing is what goes on more recently than anything. Threads get derailed people just constantly whiny, talking shit and not trying to make anything better. This forum has always been detrimental to itself
>>
>>73395624
Worse. /mu/ has gotten progressively worse since it's inception. It's pretty unbelievable that it's even possible.

This is my 2nd day back after a 3 year hiatus from the board. Is the board dead? 90% of the threads have < 10 posts

This

I see the irony. It's usually me fucking around in Lauren/chvrches threads. I don't do it in others.
If people would try to improve things it would get better, but when off topic threads and posts get more attention than threads about music there's a problem here. Yeah people are allowed to meme and screw around but it's so prelevant that little discussion about anything can't be had.

This is true

For example, this thread:
>>73399179

17th post is great and tries to start a good discussion while ALL the previous answers were LE FUNNY MAYMES xDDDD . Why can't all /mu/ users be like that 17th poster?

then you're just blatantly lying. i've personally seen you shit up a million threads that weren't related to churches or lavren. you know that's true

Technically speaking, /pol/

But why on earth would anyone go there?
>>
>>73399990
I went there once out of curiousity, i ve never seen so many people filled with so much anger and hatred towards people like they do.

Slightly more hip hop and waifuspam

>>
I used to hate tripfags, but I see now that they're essential to maintaining the quality of the board. Without people with good taste to bully us, we've let this board turn to complete shit. We need to bring back the old tripfags or get some new ones who actually know what they're talking about. Of course cancerous retards like Montie and Brandon who contribute nothing should still be ridiculed and/or ignored.
>>
>>73400218
Oh boy you need to see /lit/. Half of the posts are along the lines of "recommend some conservative essentials" and "I'm looking for something dealing with traditional values and the nuclear family."
Keep in mind that they never read any of the stuff that gets recommended.
Fuck /pol/.
>>
>>73395624
/mu/ is considerably worse now. Golden age was 2010-2012 which still wasn't that great. At least the 'patricians' tried to walk the walk with that bullshit at the time, it seems a lot clearer now that this place is constantly overrun by underage dolts who waddle around in their own shit. The only difference is now I don't get any music from here, so there's minimal reason to hang around here for non-dank purposes

>>
It also doesn't help that people don't check the catalog before they post, or want to create an entirely new thread for their stupid ass album.

Like this guy, >>73400117, decided the current 2017 thread, >>73397622, wasn't good enough to post his aoty choice in, so he clogs up the fucking board by posting a separate discussion.

LOOK AT THE CATALOG BEFORE YOU POST. IT'S REALLY EASY.

This is how the average /pol/poster behaves. Remember kids, never act like a /pol/ poster. Nobody likes a /pol/ poster. They are the most bitter people in the world.
