Bauhaus basically invented goth and is also the best band

While many of my favorite albums of all time are in the gothic rock territory, the thing about the bands is a lot of them are very average and most of the best don't put out more than one or two great albums (at least gothic rock albums).

I'm just gonna go out on a limb and assume that most goth kids listened to Disintegration before any other 80s goth album and were just fucking blown away by Plainsong (cause it's pretty good) and liked the imagery of Lullaby, and it just stuck.

Speaking of The Cure, I distinctly remember the Top Gear episode about caravan camping having Jeremy Clarkson say
"If I was at home, I could be having a barbecue while blasting The Cure at full volume!"
But when I checked out that episode on youtube he just said "I could be listening to music".

I like Bauhaus Grave Babies, Anasazi, Nosferatu, The Sisters of Mercy, Christian Death, Miranda Sex Garden, and Alien Sex Fiend.

There's a pretty strong goth influence in modern post punk groups like The Prids and White Lies.

Some interesting indie singer songwriters have obvious goth influences, like Zola Jesus and Soap&Skin.

It's also interesting and underrecognized how much it influenced a number of early black metal groups. I know Celtic Frost was really into it, and actually so is Behemoth.

I'm kind of the opposite. I've always wanted to want to fuck goth bitches, since I like the goth aesthetic thanks to literature and campy horror. But most goth girls are so fucking ugly. Hypothetically I love the look - dark hair, tight alluring clothes. But most of the girls who do it are pudgy, or ugly, almost always inactive/sedentary, lazy types, the types who go to anime conventions and don't understand hygiene. It's the exact opposite of punk girls, who should theoretically be disgusting, but every time I go to a punk show I see gorgeous, down to earth, athletic girls with ripped up clothes.

I used to listen to a lot of goth back in the 90/00's, went twice to goth fest and so on but its all in the past now. anyway, what it seems that just the classics survived the test of the time and they are the ones that I still listen to this day:
