Sup /mu/, Im currently looking for a Les Paul. However, Gibson's cost like $3000 and wondering if getting an high-end Epiphone would be a better option?

>good sustain

Why do people still think muh sustain matters? How long do you really want your guitar to sustain for? Do you write songs that call for a note to be sustained for longer than about a bar?

muh sustain is actually meaningless. It's something that all guitar manufacturers and pickup manufacturers can claim as a feature of their products without having to show any proof. And it's something that all guitar players are told they need. And very few of then question if they actually need it.

tl;dr - muh sustain = yet more marketing speak

I'm looking at getting an attenuator for my 22 watt valve amp. Seems like the Powerstation is the best one but it's pretty expensive. What are some other cheaper alternatives? What's worked out best for you guys live or for practice?

Am I really entering wanker territory just by playing fast, adding more notes or alternating between modes more oftenly? I do make my stops, my bendings, etc, but that doesn't mean I can't shred a bit if it fits the moment, right?

Every day that passes I am more convinced that "playing with feeling" is the meme of the century lazy guitarists use as an excuse for not practicing hard.

I played a bass in a small shop today can anyone get me the info on the model? It was a Squier P-Bass (made in Indonesia) with the classic 50s styling, Sunburst and instead of the single coil in the bridge like pic related it had a "Fender" logo humbucker in the neck. It sounded so nice. The guy said it was $230

Please stop appending "attack" on the end, it sounds kind of autistic. "Argument(um) ad hominem" or just "ad hominem" are the proper ways to say it.

By the way, accusing somebody of committing an ad hominem fallacy when they've provided other points as an attempted rebuttal is retarded. Don't confuse simple insults with argumentum ad hominem; it's an important distinction.

Why does 9/10 people here play shitty small radius fender shit stains? Do you all have twink hands. There is literally no reason not to play a 7 or 8 string nowadays other than having little baby hands. You can have all the standard guitar features and sounds plus one or two more strings for fancy chord voicings and added range. I guess my hands are just bigger than average and most people are too small to handle a nice 7 string neck, I guess that's okay that most of you have to use twinkboy mustang and strat necks, I just wish you guys could play a guitar that doesn't completetly cut off and limit your playing. On the other hand considering you fell for the Fender or Gibson marketing saying that impiies their guitars are anything other than overpriced planks of nostalgia, you're probably all so musically illiterate that you only play hendrix and john mayer covers and couldn't even fathom the extended range. Sad

If only the rest of the thread could reach that level of mental maturity. It's like they took toddlers and gave them a list of buzz words as well as a list of things that they should dislike.

Don't get me wrong, there are many uses for guitar outside of whatever is trendy, but no one in this thread can see beyond popularity(be it right now or 30 years ago).

inb4 owners of pedal boards and mememachines call me a faggot for not using hair gel or wearing girl pants.

What's the secret behind huge sustain and fuzzy tones like Robert Fripp's solos and the solo in American Woman? Shit, they can hardly figure out the notes across the neck on a 4 string bass, add 3+ more and their heads might explode(even though some may just be 2 octaves higher/lower than another string while retaining the same sequence of notes). I bet there's someone in this thread that actually has a cheat sheet taped to his guitar. There's at least a couple here that refer tp the low e as string number 1. Rather than relearning the right way they'll probably just start refering to the low b as "string negative 1."

>>

Exactly, they are retards that learn scales based on shapes they find on the internet and are blown away when they have to add another string to that. Also they probably lack the technical ability to avoid playing the low B when alt picking the low E string for 6 string songs
>>
>>72272311
A 7/8 string is a literally a 6 string with more range and no downsides. Only owning 6 strings a liabilty, only owning 7 strings isn't. You can do anything you can on a 6 string on a 7 string plus more

>>72272367
That's your entire issue. Try taking off the noise gate, or lowering the threshold. The noise gate that comes standard with amp sims is one that simply opebs and closes the output signal altogether, once volume drops it cuts everything out(not just noise). With a fuzz or similar high gain effect your noisefloor should be pretty low when playing, hardly noticeable when actually playing. And pick the closest fuzz to a bmp or similar, fuzz face or similar 2 transistor fuzzes won't be able to give you the necessary gain. Bmp and clones will usually be 3 knobbed, volume/output, tone/voice, sustain/fuzz/gain. Fuzz faces will geberally be 2. If it has an octave function it's probably a tone machine, which can get pretty raunchy like a muff. I don't know what software you're using, some effects will be licensed with the official name and some will just have a name that implies it's based off a certain box. Things like the ampeg scrambler or proco rat might work, but they're not "traditional" fuzz boxes.
>>
>>72272348
Why are you lumping 7 and 8 strings together? By your logic, no one should have a 7 string guitar, because 8 strings are better.

Better yet -- why not get a 9-string guitar?
>>
>>72272603
No massed produced 9 strings with anime girls on them. How new are you?
>>
>>72272603
9 strings = MAN HANDS
7/8 strings = Average hands
6 string = twink hands

It wouldn't be fair to lump in guitars that actually are harder to play and have downsides to the average man. There is a valid excuse for not using a 9 string like not being mass produced and being slightly uncomfortable. 7 and 8 strings however are literally inexcusable not to use
>>
>>72270988
Break the measure up into parts. The classic is two dotted quarter notes and two quarter notes like the Mission Impossible theme. A simple way I like to play in 5/4 is arpeggiating chords thinking in terms of 6 eighth notes followed by 4 eighth notes

Personally I'm more familiar with cheap guitar brands than good ones. Also pretty much every large brand seems to make at least one crappy model to cash in on their brand name. But some brands I would look at are agile and reverend. Reverend have great tone for those who don't want to select their own pickups, and agile has rock solid guitars that play like silk, with cheap placeholder pickups.

Sorry I don't know that many high quality brands. There's a few other really nice brands I do like that just don't have good enough value for me to recommend them.

You would know if you've played a guitar with good sustain before.

I've modded my Les Paul and retrofitted a tremolo bar on it, it was cool, but one of the things it affected was sustain. And once you have bad sustain, you come to understand and appreciate good sustain.

nigga customization is free. Here's a guide on how to get the world's best Les Paul for under $500:
>buy $300-400 neck through rondo agile
>buy $5 adjustable temperature soldering iron(includes solder)
>buy cheap or expensive alnico pickups depending on your level of autism ($60-200)

Or, if you don't trust chinks to level your frets for you:
>buy some POS that doesn't neck whip($150-300)
>buy crowning file, sand paper, Carpenter's level($40)
>do all the pickup stuff($65-205)
>>

Since you're just starting, get a cheap interface and use free amp software, then use the money you saved from not buying an amp for a better guitar.

Thank me later.

What I'd recommend instead of this is to get a 15 or 10 watt marshall combo off Craigslist, then just sell it when you are ready to upgrade. Simpler than using an interface, and costs zero (0) dollars if you sell for what you bought the amp for.

In my honest opinion OP, I'd strongly suggest looking into the Ibanez ARZ. I've been playing their AR and ARZ Guitars on the regular for a solid 5 years and they've yet to let me down.
