The coil tapping fade thing is nice, though I still think switches for parallel and a bass contour is a better solution to get that kind of flexibility. Honestly it's one of my favorite fender guitars, but I still wouldn't get it because of the scale length. Also it would be nice to have a roller bridge at that price. Really just adds a tiny bit more consistency to a trem.
>>
>>72222194
>one of my favorite fender guitars, but I still wouldn't get it because of the scale length

No you couldn't. Common mode rejection, both pickups have to make the same noise in antiphase for it to be noise cancelling. If you add a non-RWRP to a noiseless pickup then you just get the noise of the non-RWRP. Like adding a single coil pickup to a humbucker.

D'Addario are good, though. They don't fucking break and they come in every variety you could want. They might cost more than Ernie ball but they last longer. Sure, my ideal string brand would be one that advertised less, cuz then the strings would be way cheaper, but I haven't found a brand that offers as many options and makes them as tough. If I could find one that made something close to pic related that could last as long, I'd switch.
>>
>>72224655
Your phrasing is pretty good. Not groundbreaking but pleasing. Take a step back and understand the notes you're playing in each chord, and implement those into your lead playing. Doesn't need to be completely rigid, but implementing those extra notes will give you a lot more flexibility and tonal interest.
>>
>>72224711
There have been at least 4 anons over the last couple years that couldn't play power chords.

There was one who said every note he played sounded bad. He said at first he thought if he practiced he'd sound better, then like 6 months later he thought it was his guitar, then after he got a new guitar he still sounded bad. It was finally figured out, he was pressing down directly on the frets.

I'd pay 5 grand to see showtime at the Apollo: /gg/ edition

Hi /gg/

I've only ever had combo amps (I have a boss Katana-50 at the moment) and I want to get in to pedals and making great sounds.

I have about $500 to drop on a bunch of pedals but no idea where to start.

Is it worth buying 6 or so mini pedals from a brand like eno or tone city or something so I get some variety?
Is there any reason I should buy $100-$200 pedals for things like distortion and overdrive?

<one minute long 12 bar blues pentatonic rock intro>
What's up everyone it's Rob Chapman. Today we'll be demoing the Line 6 Spider VI™ modeling amplifier. I've got my Chapman Guitars BR00TALDJ3NT here with the optional extra noisy EMGs and double pointy headstock. Let's check out how it sounds on the clean channel.
<pentatonic blooz wankery>
Very good, nice low end. Let's try a bit more gain.
<bad ACDC riffs>
Alright, now let's turn it all the way up.
<fizzy mid-scooped official Dorje™ riffs>
Very nice. Now let's check out the onboard effects, staring with the reverb. This is a copy of the Ibenis SuperVerb which was released in 1969 and which had a limited run of 69.
<barely audible echo applied to generic 4 chord strumming>
They've replicated the sound of the SuperVerb perfectly! Not that you have a way to judge.
And now the phaser. This is a copy of the Boss PH-01, a garbage tier phaser produced in the 80's until it was dropped due to low demand.
<air raid sirens>
Very nice indeed! Let's look at the included distortion and overdrive next. Line 6 created a nearly perfect copy of the Boss Metal Zone on this amp, including the nearly unusable controls and the fizzy, useless sound it creates. The distortion is a copy of the Dumble DS-1, a Boss distortion pedal that was once within a mile of a Dumble knockoff sold on Craigslist by a crackhead. With such a premium sound to live up to, the amp does well beyond my expectations.
<palm-muted power chords>
<distorted palm-muted power chords>
<overdriven palm-muted power chords>
And that's all for the Line 6 Spider VI™! You can get this amp directly from Anderton's for the low price of $299.99. See you next time!

Buy small cheap pedals if it's stuff like modulation just to try out and eventually upgrade. Most of the time you'll only need a little sample of it in your playing like a Chorus or delay pedal. Go big on an OD/Disto/Fuzz and try out if possible, these get used heavily on my rig and I was really picky about my Fuzz and OD. I'd say Spend $300 on two OD/Fuzz/Disto and the rest $200 on modulation, but you can easily get a really good Reverb/Delay for under $200 like a Boss RE-20 or Foxpedal The Wave

Getting coated strings as a beginner is better, since you most likely won't change them as often and with coated strings you really don't have to.

>>72218092
Elixirs used to be good but their quality dropped. They start fraying really fast and they often break from the bridge end of the string.
After 5 years of playing elixir .11's I switched to D'Addario NYXL's. They don't last as long as Elixirs due to not being coated, but they don't break as often, they sound better and stay in tune better.

Ernie Ball quality has gone way down in the last decade or so.

When i first started, i used them because those were just about the only strings that my local music shop had in stock (because they tailored more towards "band" instruments than hobby instruments). I could go months on end of absolute abuse and torture and they would hold up.

these days it's about a week or so before the non-wound strings start to get grimy and gross, and it seems like they last maybe about a month or so before one inevitably breaks while tuning (because they apparently can never stay in tune, even on a guitar with proper setup).

Use them if you want, but i'm just saying i've noticed a huge dip in quality over time which has me looking elsewhere for strings

Need a good reverb pedal, have £150 to spend. Thoughts? Strymon are so fucking expensive here now :(

Yup, same here. I started using EB in the 80's, tried others and always go back.

>I could go months on end
Seriously, change them after about 3 weeks. If you're keeping them on longer your tone suffers horrendously.

I dreamed I was sleeping over at my aunt's and every time my cousin came into my room she would take off her top and demand I play with her big titties. Fuck that was the hottest dream I've had in years.
In another I bought a guitar from Paul Gilbert and jammed with him.

He seems like a fun dude to hang out and jam with, and that's what I did in my dream. The fact that he _plays_ guitars with low action doesn't mean the ones he sells in a fucking dream are set up like that.
What kind of scrub are you that you can't set the action higher on a guitar?

>wants to jam with a guy and listen to his shitty tone of strings snapping to the frets and almost not ringing out

It doesnt get more generic and lifeless than this

I bet you feel like a guitar god when you do your 4>5 bends and manage to stay in time for like 2 whole bars of 8th notes.

>>72239407
cmon everybody knows you play a ibanez rg
>>
>>72223231
Its around 3mm starting from the actual fret
>>
>>72220202
It's much less scary than this. Just dial the volume to ten and strum for awhile. You'll get a little buzzing then sustained tone silence.
