Boss fans are the worst but I think it's just that the artist has an interest in keeping to well-known pedals, and metal contrasts with cute girls. I can't really think of another pedal people know associated with metal.

Of course there is. The world is saturated with too much product and not enough demand for quality product. Bands like Animals As Leaders are my caviar while you're sitting there eating cheap sardines from Walmart. They seamlessly weave in and out of complex time-signatures, having mastered their chosen craft over so many years, while you sit there with your standard 4/4 drudgery and pathetic, warbled vocals.

Animals As Leaders are one of an elite-few musical groups where the quality of their sound almost becomes a drug of sorts. A drug that's so very difficult to obtain in this excruciatingly-pathetic new millennium

That kind of music makes me feel as though so many more things can be accomplished than I used to think, and that I too could be somebody, something, if I apply myself for quite a number of hours a day at a hobby or profession I choose.

That kind of music, anon, reaffirms LIFE. And it's fucking GREAT to air-guitar to.
>>
>>72043230
Bass strings are thick already, you dont play with inflections like electric guitar because of that.
What it will change on the playing to have them thicker.
Classical is the same thing. Just press strings on the fretboard. No actual inflections.

Never heard of them before. Reminds me of the Beatles but with a chorus pedal cranked up to where the notes warble and detune. So maybe start with a Beatles Real Book / Fake Book.

That and learn your 7th chords forms: one set with the root note on the low E string, and another set with the root note on the A string.

At the very least, learn the root position forms of the

Major 7th
Minor 7th
Dominant 7
Half-Diminished (Minor 7th Flat 5)

and for a more ear-catching style of Dominant chord (that usually wants to resolve to a minor chord a fifth below the root of the chord or a fourth above the root of the chord),

the Dominant 7 #5

Learning to play the rhythm of some Jazz Standards like "Autumn Leaves," "Blue Bossa," and "All The Things You Are" wouldn't hurt either.

How are you playing C major? If you're playing all fretted notes, all you have to do is move the whole "form" so that all the C root notes you're playing are now over your new key, e.g. go up two frets, play the exact same form, and now you're in the key of D. That's the big advantage of learning forms, they are very easy to transpose.

If you're playing C major down at the nut with open strings, it's a bit trickier (it's still movable, just requires refingering), and it'd probably be easier to learn a form like I mentioned above. Try this one if you don't know it (it's in the key of G, move it up 5 frets to play it in C), it's very commonly used.
>>
>>72045562
yup, guitar works like that. learn a pattern, and you can transpose it anywhere on the fretboard.

Elijah Wald is an interesting folk/blues writer. If you've ever read those Very Short Introduction books that Oxford University publishes, he wrote the blues book they have. He also wrote an interesting book on Robert Johnson called Escaping the Delta, among a lot of other interesting books that aren't strictly blues. He's a bit of a contrarian, but he's also very thorough and does his research.

I do alot of fingerpicking and when I write it's always a maj7 a -9, a major chord, minor chord, a minor7b5. And I can get some nice chord melody down, usually in "jazzy" style and always ends up sounding really contemporary, which I hate.

But when I listen to chopin, he's using voicings and chord's and chord melody I don't even know the name of, let alone could ever think up. What do I need to study to start writing like that? The difference between chopin's stuff and my stuff, is my stuff sounds like some chords and a melody and chopin's stuff is a story/

Ie:
-The intervals that make up chords
-How to name chords based on their intervals
-How to name scales based on their intervals
-The modes of the major scale, and why they are what they are.

where should I go from here?

an add nine is a major or minor chord (depending on the context that adds the 9th interval)

Since there's only 7 notes per scale that would make the 9th interval a II

So I, III, V, II would be a 9th chord

Are those frets actually skewed or is that a camera lens effect?

Then you're set lad

Any tips on how to play bass and sing at the same time? I used to do guitar and sing, but it just feels like bass is a whole new animal.

Are any of you actually good?

Okay /gg/ time to help a nigga.

This pickup was originally all black and I sanded the pole pieces because I like them in chrome better but the chrome spray paint didn't look so good and I ended sanding them again.
They actually look shinier in the picture than in real life.

I'm planning to use it in a guitar I'm going to make that's going to look like the one in the picture.
Should I paint the pole pieces black again or should I use white?
>>
>>72055279
I think it'll look fine as is. I sure hope you took the pole pieces out to sand them, metal shavings can fuck up your pickup.
>>
>>72055379
I didn't take them out but I did unscrew them halfway (like that picture) put tape on the whole pickup.

Also
>I think it'll look fine as is
Yeah but now that it's bare metal it'll rust as I live in a humid place. Even if I clear coat them I won't be able to polish them more after I do if I want them shinier. I refuse to sand them again.
>>
>>72055416
Rather than clear coat, you should polish them. Using jewelry polish should protect them mostly from rust. You should be able to repolish them if they get rusty.

An anon is a previous thread recently informed me that my shitty fender mustang amp that's been hiding in my closet for 2 years can record directly into my computer using usb; could anybody help me with this? I've been playing for a couple years and I figured it's time to start recording.
>inb4 google it

Get reaper and audacity. Both can be downloaded free.

Then after setting those up, hook the fender into the pc. You may beed to download the software if it doesnt auto prompt you.

After that, google free vst, or vsti, for synths and drums and whatnot instruments.

Thats the gist.

I need reaper and audacity? sorry I'm really new at this. I'm assuming it records into audacity and you can edit it in reaper? thanks for the help m8

MY POVERTY BASS RIG IS COMPLETE
>Peavey Tour 450 Bass Head $130
>Acoustic 8x10 $250
>Rondo Ursa 4 $115

450 watts through 8x10 with a bass guitar for under 500.

Not too bad.

2. The amp will work like a pod or zoom, or usb interface, probably need headphones to monitor. The fender software should also have a ton of options and amps sims all in all.
>>
>>72055792
Audacity is good for quick solo sessions, recording ideas.

Reaper is better for building back tracks and mixing. Takes a bit more learning but isnt too hard, once you get the hang of it you can spit out 2 or 3 tracks in a day.

You can use cubase or whstever DAW you prefer. Fender may have some amp sim program you can just turn on and jam, record with. I dont have that amp so can only tell you in general what to do.
>>
>>72055885
yea it has fender fuse, which is an amp sim
>>72055835
thanks for all the help guys

Right, fuse, like a pod farm or whatever. Not sure if it has recording software though, but probably has something basic.

You may still want a better DAW to work on your own scratch tracks and all that. One step at a time man.

right now im still trying to get my computer to recognize the amp haha, ill get there eventually

Nice! Pretty good man. Good guitar tone. :)

Pretty cool. I have a similar setup. Peavey KB300, Ursa 2, about $120 in pickups, $150 amp modeler. I like my noiseless pickups but I would have gotten cheaper ones if I could find them. I wasn't crazy about the stock ceramic pups in the SX. I love my tone, but I posted here before about having to repair both pickups. So instead of noiseless hot stacks, you might go with classic stacks. I think the issues with my pickups were thanks to being overwound. Still way overpriced but it's a solid tone. If you don't want noiseless you can just get some $15 or $20 pickups that will sound as good.
>>
>>72056110
Thanks. Youd laugh if I told you my setup.
>>
>>72056165
What's the set up?! I'm interested now
>>
>>72049752
Wilkinson makes replacement roller TOM bridges that improve the design 1000x, but I love the Schaller Hannes I just installed on an old Hamer I have. It's absolutely incredible, but if you don't have a guitar that's on the bright side of sound it will darken it up a bit too much

Agile 7 string tele - peavey classic 30 - sm58 - lexicon alpha

Only thing I ran in reaper was a master limiter.
